Bathtub/Toilet Clog

Hello, My wife and I noticed that our basement bathtub and toilet were backed up from what we thought was a clogged sewer line. We hired a professional plumber to power snake the line behind the basement toilet to the sewer line. Everything was great for about 7 days. This morning I found early signs of the same clog occurring once again. Even though the bathtub still drains, there's a dirty film around it where the water had been displaced. I tried flushing the toilet and sure enough, the water rises before it drains ever so slowly. Is there anything we can do aside from getting a better plumber? Is this a clogged sewer line or something bigger? Thanks for your help, sylee Did the plumber say there was anything wrong with the sewer line, and was there any garantee? No, the plumber didn't mention that there was anything wrong with the sewer line. Would there be a way we could tell if the sewer line was damaged (aside from the clogged bathtub and toilet)? There was no written guarantee, but we know the plumber well enough to bring him in to take another look with hopefully no extra charge. I'd call him back, and then ask what could be causing the problem. Hello again, I just thought I'd provide an update to our ongoing bathtub/toilet clog incident. We called our plumber to see if he'd come out to take a look at the problem we were encountering with our basement bathroom. He said by phone that there was nothing else he could do and that the clog found in both bathtub/toilet fell under the responsibility of the city. I then asked the procedure he'd used to clean out our sewer line. According to the plumber, he'd worked with a power snake of up to 100 feet as well as with cutters to trim any outlaying tree roots. Since my father-in-law was the only home at the time, I had to take his word for it. He finally refused to back up his work, stating that it would cost us another $200 for him to make the trip out to our house. At this point, I noticed that some of the sewage seeping into our bathtub was from the previous clog of 10 days ago. I'm thinking that if the plumber had completely cleared our sewer line, I wouldn't be seeing the same backwash. I could be wrong on this point, but it just seems way too coincidental. We then called the city's sewage disposal unit. They came over with a power snake of up to 120 feet and within 2 hours, cleared the sewer line. The city workers mentioned that it felt as though the snake had kept rubbing up and pushing against a rigid object like a rock. In any event, for the past two days, the line seems cleared of any obstruction. Call me a pessimist, but I'm taking a wait-and-see approach for the next couple of weeks. The only question I have left is if certain plumbers use different sized drill-heads for their power snakes? It's the only reason (aside from ripping us off) that if he'd used a smaller drill-head, he might have passed over the initial obstruction in the sewer line. Thanks for your time, sylee
