Are there any 3/4 solid surface products such as Corian - bathroom vanity top
I'm somewhat concerned about the weight of the vanity top on floating cabinets. Therefore, I'm thinking about a solid surface product such as Corian. However, Corian comes only in 1/2. Is there a comparable product in 3/4? According to Dupont Corian is available in 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 thickness. Corian specs Yes...you need to talk to an independent or someone who specializes in counter tops. They can get things that some places can't. I'm a little bit confused. According to the link below, ~90% comes as 1/2: http://www2.dupont.com/Surfaces_Comm...talog_2010.pdf Ahhh...well..your color choices may be limited..that's true. Might check into Silestone? I should have mentioned in my initial post that I'm trying to avoid Quartz (i.e. Silestone) due to the weight. BTW. Here is the weights that I found so far: Corian: 1/2 sheet weighs about 4.5 lbs per sq ft (a 3/4 would be 6.7lbs) Silestone (Quartz): The weight for Silestone 2cm (3/4) is 10 lbs p/sq ft There are quite a few solid surfaces manufacturers. Do a search. I am sure they all make 3/4. not trying to jack this thread. but what are floating cabinets ? bolted to the wall, not touching the floor ? Originally Posted by condo-owner not trying to jack this thread. but what are floating cabinets ? bolted to the wall, not touching the floor ? Correct. Gives it a contemporary look. thanx why do you think that weight is an issue ? should they not be made strong enough in the first place ? just in case some bone head decides to climb on them, or whatever. I think the construction is OK. But compared to a regular setup, the two side walls and brakcets take the full load. I think that a quartz top + somebody sitting on it is too much... I am still looking for a Corian competitor that offers more slection in 3/4. While I found some companies by google it is somethiems diffuclt to tell waht they offer. As you've discovered, 3/4 Corian is very difficult to find, and is only available in very limited colors in large quantities to fabricators, mainly those who specialize in commercial fabrication. A better approach would be to have a fabricator build the top with one layer of buildup on the exposed edges, so it will appear 1 thick. 1/2 plywood is used for perimeter support behind the thick edge. That layer of buildup could be ripped to 1/4 before glueup to give a 3/4 edge. Standard countertop thickness is 1 1/2, which is 1/2 Corian with two layers of buildup around the edges. This makes the top surface 1 1/2 above cabinet height. Good luck This made me think. I just found that Silestone comes in 7/16 (at 5.6lbs/sqft). If true I could do a similar approach and use 1/2 plywood and build up a 1/2 edge.
