Tropical Christmas Party Decoration Ideas

Tropical Christmas Party Decoration Ideas

Sand and surf aren't the first things that come to mind at the mention of Christmas. Whether you live in a balmy climate near the ocean or a frozen winter wonderland, the tropical theme adds a little fun to a Christmas party. The familiar sights in tropical locations fit the Christmas theme with a few modifications. Consider the party venue when planning the decorations. Size and decoration restrictions can impact your party decor plan.

Palm Trees

The easily identifiable palm trees often come to mind at the mention of the tropics. If you live in a tropical location, add strings of Christmas lights to your palm trees. They might not carry the traditional Christmas feeling of pine trees, but they make use of the natural environment in a festive way. If you live in colder climates, make your own palm tree cutouts from cardboard and hang the Christmas lights on them. You can also purchase a real house plant that resembles a palm tree or another tropical tree. Even a ficus tree with lights works if you have one handy. A coat of spray glitter to coconuts also adds a tropical Christmas theme to the party.

Beach Ball Ornaments

Beach balls are another tropical staple that can fit with Christmas decor. If you set up a traditional pine Christmas tree for the party, hang the beach balls on it as tropical Christmas ornaments. They also work well on outdoor trees as ornaments to greet the party guests as they arrive. A coat of spray paint or glitter spray adds a festive touch to ordinary beach balls. As an added bonus, beach ball ornaments aren't breakable like many traditional ornaments.

Shell Garland

Sea shells work well on a homemade garland for the tree or party area. Hot glue shells to a wide ribbon. You can choose ribbon in the traditional red and green Christmas scheme or choose a more tropical color palette. Use the shell garland to dress up your palm trees or to drape along the tables.

Sea shells also work well for a festive table display. Mix together sea shells and Christmas ball ornaments in a glass bowl or basket.

Santa Hats

Santa hats are a simple way to add Christmas flair to a tropical party, especially if you're actually in the tropics. Your guests will represent the tropical Christmas theme when they dress in tropical clothes and cap it off with the Santa hat. You can also add Santa hats to the palm trees.

Sand Snowman

If the Christmas party is held near a beach in a warm location, sculpt a snowman out of the sand. If the location prevents you from making an actual sand snowman, you can create your own at home. Cut out a snowman shape from cardboard. Cover the snowman with a thin layer of glue and sprinkle it with sand. Allow the glue to dry fully. Add the other snowman's features before hanging the tropical snowman on the wall.

Another option is to let the guests build their own sand snowmen. If a snowstorm is brewing outside, bring the sand indoors. Fill plastic kiddie pools with sand and let the guests start building.
