Vitamins That Help Cellulite

Cellulite creates lumpy appearing skin.

Cellulite is an evident skin dimpling caused by an unevenness of the skin's connective tissues. This irregularity causes fat in the area to appear lumpy. According to Howard Murad, author of The Cellulite Solution, certain vitamins will improve your skin's elasticity and help reduce cellulite. These vitamins are available in supplement form, can be consumed through food or applied to the skin with vitamin-enriched oils and creams. Each method is an effective cellulite treatment, states Murad.

Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 helps your body metabolize nutrients that increase your skin's elasticity. It also helps rid your body of excess liquid that can make the appearance of cellulite more severe. According to Mitchel P. Goldman M.D., author of Cellulite: Pathophysiology and Treatment, increased vitamin B6 intake over time will help fight the appearance of cellulite. Apart from supplements, vitamin B6 sources include meats, whole grains, vegetables, bananas and nuts.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C prevents inflammation and strengthens the collagen in your skin, writes Goldman. Strengthened collagen helps to smooth the appearance of cellulite. Decreasing inflammation will lessen the excess weight around a cellulite prone area, in turn decreasing the severity of cellulite. Aside from supplements, good sources of vitamin C include strawberries, oranges, broccoli, red pepper, lemon and Brussels sprouts.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E improves circulation and increases your skin's elasticity by increasing collagen production. Improved elasticity smoothes the lumps created by cellulite and decreases its appearance. According to Goldman, application of vitamin E enriched oil, when paired with increased intake of vitamin E, will help reduce cellulite. Alongside supplements, ingestible vitamin E sources include sweet potato, pumpkin, nuts, seeds, papaya, broccoli and tomatoes.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is a powerful antioxidant that helps your skin repair collagen and connective tissues. Uneven connective tissues are a cause of the lumpy appearance of cellulite. According to Helen Foster, author of Cellulite Solutions, vitamin A also fights toxins, preventing future cellulite damage. Apart from supplements, sources of vitamin A include potato, mango, spinach, liver and carrots.
