A tutu can be adorned with beads, faux gems and lace to make a fashion statement.
Tutus are part of traditional costumes worn by ballerinas. They heighten a dancer's legs and make the waist appear narrower. Due to their flexibility and flair, tutus have become a staple in the fashion industry. They can be made of any color to suit any length, and adorned with sequins, ribbons, diamante gems and trim. Girls and women typically don fashion tutus as a party dress. Tutus can be made out of dress net or tulle fabric, a piece of elastic and a stapler.
Instructions
1. Use the tape measure to determine the width of your waist. Gather enough dress net material to equal twice that of your waist.
2. Place the dress net material on the floor or a flat spacious surface. Use the scissors to cut 6-inch-wide strips. The strips do not have to be exactly 6 inches or straight. You can use one strip to cut the other strips by placing it on top of remaining material and cutting out the strip beneath it.
3. Wrap the elastic around your waist. Do not tighten. Snip the elastic where the edges come together. Put one end of the elastic over the other end so it overlaps by 1 inch. Staple the inch of overlap on both edges of the two ends. You can also sew the ends together.
4. Take a strip of dress net material and press the center over the back of the elastic. Loop the ends of the tulle up and over the front of the elastic. Then bring them back down and thread them through and under the center of the strip, as if you are making a macram Lark's Head knot. Pull the strip to the front and tighten the knot around the elastic.
5. Repeat with the rest of the strips of dress net material. Arrange the strips evenly after you have finished tying them to the elastic. Because you have twice as much material to surround your waist, the tutu will puff up.
6. Use glue to paste sequins, diamante gems, beads and lace to your tutu.
