Glass Replacement

I need to replace a broken glass pane in a window, i'm not sure where really who cuts the replacement glass to fit the window, does lowes or home depot do that service?
also do I have to use window glaze to reseal the window in place or can i use silicone or another type of caulk ?

If it is a single piece of glass, not an insulated glass unit, most hardware stores can cut the size you need. Lowes might, but HD does not cut class. Thoroughly clean out the old frame of old putty and glass bits, remove the glazing points(they hold the glass in place), install the new glass on a thin bed of glazing putty, reinstall glazing points, and use glazing putty to fill in around the glass. I have not had must success with quicky glazing caulks. They are too messy and don't have the holding power of glazing putty.

Also the last time (emphasis on last) I bought glass from a big box it was about 4 times what a glass shop would have charged me, so watch the pricing.

can't find any good ole hardwhere stores that cut glass anymore but i lowes said they would cut plexi glass for me to fit, would that be ok? never used it before.

plexiglass scratches alot easier and it's usually more money than glass. it might not be a bad idea to pick up a piece of glass at a glass shop in a nearby city if it's not too far away.

thanks i kinda figured it would scratch easier but i didn't think it would be more expensive, I guess i better check around further out for glass cutters.
