Hook Up Water Lines On An Icemaker

Adding an ice maker requires hooking up a water line.

These days, many refrigerators come with an automatic ice maker, an item that was once a luxury. Although the ice maker itself is already installed, water does not just magically appear for freezing. A water line must be connected. Water lines run from the closest plumbing, often the water supply lines under the sink, into the back of the freezer and into the ice maker. Refer to the refrigerator owner's manual for the correct way to hook up the water line to the ice maker.

Instructions

1. Turn off the water supply underneath the sink by turning the compression valve clockwise to the off position. Open the faucet to remove all water from the pipes.

2. Place a saddle valve over the cold water supply line. Tighten the screw of the saddle valve into the brace piece until the saddle valve sits snuggly on the supply line.

3. Turn the handle of the saddle valve clockwise to pierce the supply line.

4. Attach the plastic or metal pipe included with the ice maker to the saddle valve. Run it to the back of the freezer and insert the other end into the supply valve coming out of the back of the refrigerator.

5. Turn on the water supply. Turn the saddle valve handle counterclockwise to start the water flow. Test the ice maker after a few hours to see whether it is working properly.
