Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor medication that is used in the treatment of high blood pressure and heart failure, and to improve survival after a heart attack. This medication works by converting angiotensin in order to reduce blood pressure in users. As with most medications, there are a number of side effects that can come as a result of using Ramipril.

Some of the side effects that can come as a result of using this medication include headache, dizziness, drowsiness, cough, insomnia, impotence, decreased sex drive, nausea, vomiting, difficulty having an orgasm and mild skin itching or rash. While these are considered the most common side effects of using Ramipril, they only affect a small number of users.
Severe Side Effects
Some of the more severe side effects include fainting, lightheadedness, increased urination, chills, fever, body aches, easy bruising or bleeding, pale skin, increased tiredness, uneven heartbeat, muscle weakness, chest pain and rapid weight gain. These side effects, however, are also very rare.

Ramipril can be taken with or without food and is administered in pill form. Please note that your doctor may change your dosage recommendations throughout the course of your treatment at her discretion. To ensure that this medication is working properly, you will be required to have frequent blood pressure tests to monitor your progress.

If you experience any of the above side effects, please contact your local doctor immediately.
If an overdose of Ramipril is suspected, please contact your local poison control center and head directly to the emergency room.
