Ge Monogram Dishwasher Troubleshooting

Once you get used to having a dishwasher, it becomes very inconvenient to have to wash your dishes by hand. If you are having problems with your GE Monogram dishwasher, you may be able to locate the problem and repair the dishwasher on your own. GE Monogram dishwasher troubleshooting tips can help.

Dishwasher Will Not Run

If your GE Monogram dishwasher will not run, check that the door is tightly latched. Make sure the power switch is turned on. Check that the dishwasher is plugged into the electric socket. Check that the child lockout switch is off. If it is a new Monogram dishwasher and is making a humming noise but is not running, add a pint of hot water and let it run for 5 minutes. If an older Monogram dishwasher is making a humming noise but is not running, call for service.

Dishwasher Will Not Wash or Rinse Well

If your GE Monogram dishwasher does not wash or rinse well, make sure you have water pressure. Then check the selection on the wash cycle. A light or short cycle may not work for dishes that are heavily soiled. Check that the water temperature is hot enough to activate and dissolve the detergent. Your water heater should deliver 120 degree F water to clean the dishes well. Avoid running the appliance when hot water is being used in other appliances or for other activities. Check the detergent amount. Do not use liquid detergents in your GE Monogram dishwasher. GE recommends you use Cascade or Electrasol. Use Jet Dry or another rinse agent to prevent water spots.

Dishwasher Door Will Not Latch

If the dishwasher door will not latch on your GE Monogram dishwasher and it is a new appliance, check that the door is not hitting screws or cabinets underneath the counter. For a new dishwasher, you might also need to push in the top of the control panel as you latch the door. The new gaskets might not have had time to seat properly. It may be necessary to run up to 10 dishwasher cycles for the heat from the washer to seat the gasket, which becomes more flexible after it is used a few times. For older Monogram dishwashers, check the loading rack to be sure no dishes are protruding beyond the back or front of the racks and that no dishes have fallen through to the lower rack. If dishes are dangling down into the lower rack, they could stop the lower rack from completely rolling into the dishwasher and could also stop the spray arm from rotating. Check that no silverware is obstructing the door.
