Extension cord for 220v dryer

Extension cord for 220V dryer

Hi, We're installing a 220V dryer. The electrician installed a dedicated electrical outlet for it where we requested but it turns out we have to put the dryer in a location approx 10 feet away from the outlet. Is there a premade 220v extension cord we can use and is it considered safe? We'd really like to avoid the cost of installing another dedicated outlet. Thanks! Sorry but no you cant do this extension cord thing. Codes require the dryer to be 6 feet or less from the outlet/receptacle. You can if all else fails make a splice in the existing receptacle box and continue to the new location with 10/3 g copper cable and install a receptacle at that location. You must leave the splice accessible so you will need to put a blank cover on the box. roger Thanks for your reply. But why would the splice need to be accessible? All splices in electrical wires need to be in junction boxes, and must remain accessable. Splices can have problems in the future. The box will contain sparks if something bad happens. If it is not accessable, the repair man would have to start tearing down all the walls and ceilings till he found the bad splice. have you read a book on residential wiring. If not that is where you need to start. Depending on any obstructions, or openings such as doors you might be able to use surface race if you don't want to fish through walls.
