Winches are essential tools for a variety of heavy-duty outdoor jobs. Whether retrieving stuck vehicles or moving large objects, a winch has many applications. A winch is only useful, however, if it is properly installed. So knowing correctly install a Mile Marker brand winch on your vehicle is a crucial first step in using it.
Instructions
Mount the Winch
1. Verify that your truck can accommodate the amount of amperage required to run the winch. The amperage required is listed on the winch and the produced amperage is listed on the battery.
2. Set the Mile Marker winch mount on the front or rear of your truck's bumper and mark the screw holes with a grease pencil.
3. Drill the holes marked with the grease pencil with a power drill and sheet metal drill bit.
4. Attach the winch mount to your truck by passing the bolts through the drilled holes, slipping nuts onto their opposite sides and screwing them into place with a socket driver.
5. Attach the winch to the winch mount by screwing the supplied bolts into place with a socket driver.
Mount the Solenoid Assembly and Bracket
6. Remove the two screws and two spring washers from the motor bearing assembly.
7. Align the solenoid bracket with the two tie bar mounting holes.
8. Secure the tie bars and attach the solenoid bracket to the motor end bearing assembly using the two screws and two spring washers that were previously removed.
9. Attach the included plastic strap around the solenoid bracket and the motor end bearing assembly. Secure the strap by pulling tightly.
Connect the Electrical Cables
10. Connect the red (positive) battery cable from the solenoid assembly to the closest screw-down positive (+) terminal of a 12-volt battery.
11. Connect the black cable to the closest screw-down battery negative (-) on one end and to the low-terminal of the motor rotator on the other end.
12. Connect the yellow cable from the solenoid assembly to the up-terminal of the motor stator.
13. Connect the green cable from the solenoid assembly to the low-terminal of the motor stator.
14. Connect the short red cable from the solenoid assembly to the up-terminal of the motor rotator.
15. Connect the thin black wire from the solenoid assembly to the thermo-relay.
16. Connect the thin black wire from the thermo-relay to the low-terminal of the motor rotator.
17.Disengage the clutch by turning the clutch handle to the disengaged (up) position.
18. Pull the cable through the fairlead and connect the hook and safety pin.
