YMCA Camp Olson in Longville, Minnesota offers multiple options for overnight camping and outdoor activities for teens. Short week camps for kids up to age 15 include four days filled with sailing, horseback riding, camp games, nature arts and crafts and lots of swimming. Teens from 13 to 15 can also attend one or two week Discovery Camp sessions with structured activities every morning, and your child's choice of activities in the afternoon. Campers are assigned a cabin on the shore of Shurds Lake in addition to one night of camping outside. Camp Olson also offers specialty camps that focus on sailing, equestrian skills, windsurfing and nature studies. Fees range from $292 for the short week camps to $1275 for two week trips to Isle Royale on Lake Superior.

Camp Nissokone


Camp Nissokone outside of Detroit, Michigan on Van Etten Lake offers one and two week long residence summer camps for teens. Themes for Nissokone's traditional one week residence camps include Western, Alice in Wonderland, Spy Kids, and Monsters and Aliens. The camp's two week long session has an X-games theme that culminates in a rodeo and family barbecue. Nissokone also offers ranch, adventure and waterski camps for teens and children entering grades 6-11. Adventure camp includes rock climbing, mountain boarding and paintball as well as a night camping in tents in the nearby state park and cooking over a campfire. Camp fees range from $499 for one week tradition residence camps to $1145 for two weeks of Ranch Camp.

Windward Bound


Appledore Tallships offers teens a rare summer camp experience aboard a tall sailing ship and camping among some of the most remote and beautiful areas on the shores of the great lakes. Teens learn to sail aboard an 85 or 65 foot schooner while engaging in programs about seamanship or freshwater science. Each camper receives her own curtained bunk and a small amount of personal space for belongings. Voyages range from four to nine days on Lakes Michigan, Superior, Huron and Erie. Windward Bound programs are headed by licensed sailors and the organization is a member of the American Sailing Training Association. Voyages cost from $440 to $880 depending on the trip you choose.
