Fort Walton is a beach destination in Florida. It has a wide range of activities for tourists including sight-seeing and spending time on the beach. As with any tourist destination, most sight-seeing options or locations have a cost. However, there are some free and low- cost options available for anyone visiting or living in the area.


Air Force Armament Museum


The Air Force Armament Museum is a free museum for anyone visiting the Fort Walton area. The museum has information about the history of the Air Force and exhibits that show the weapons used by the U.S. Air Force. The museum is on the Eglin Air Force Base, but anyone can get into the base as long as they have an ID available. Admission to the museum is free for all ages.

Okaloosa Island Boardwalk


The Okaloosa Island Boardwalk is right on the beach and has a wide variety of attractions for anyone interested in walking on the boardwalk. There are public restrooms, showers, volleyball nets, restaurants, shopping, picnic areas and parking available. While shopping and restaurants are not free, the use of the beach, picnic areas, showers and restrooms are free and there is no charge for walking along the boardwalk, people watching and soaking up the beach atmosphere. Summertime events and entertainment are available, though the exact entertainment options change from year to year.

Fort Walton Beach


Spending time on the beaches of Fort Walton is always free. Fort Walton beach offers a variety of free beach activities. Beach goers can sunbathe, surf or swim in the ocean. It does not cost money to spend time at the beach and enjoy a nice day. Fort Walton Beach has free parking available, public restrooms, showers and volleyball courts. The boardwalk also is on Fort Walton Beach, but the beach stretches farther than the boardwalk, providing plenty of space for enjoying the white sandy beaches.


Snorkel


While it does require having the appropriate gear to snorkel, the actual act of snorkeling is free and anyone that already has the gear can bring it to the beach and enjoy observing underwater sea life. The best locations for snorkeling are Fort Walton Beach, Miramar Public Beach and James Lee Park Public Beach. These beaches have clear water, showers, public restrooms and free parking available.
