Milltown New Jersey Area Attractions

George Street Playhouse hosts main stage and touring performances.


Milltown, New Jersey is part of Middlesex County and is located approximately 18 miles from Staten Island, New York. It is also a short distance from well-known educational institutions such as Rutgers University and Princeton University. Although it is a small town with only 6,965 residents in 2008, the surrounding cities like New Brunswick and East Brunswick offer activities and attractions to accommodate tourists and locals. George Street Playhouse


Located in New Brunswick, George Street Playhouse is a nationally recognized theater with a history of award-winning productions. Examples of productions include Broadway and non-Broadway performances such as "Proof," which was awarded the Tony Award and the Pulitzer Prize, and "The Toxic Avenger," which earned the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best New Musical. In addition to main stage performances, George Street Playhouse is also a touring theater, visiting more than 250 schools in the tri-state area. The theater maintains an audience of about 60,000 students and 140,000 total every year.

Cheesequake State Park


Cheesequake State Park is located in Matawan, New Jersey, and consists of two ecosystems. Part of the park consists of saltwater and freshwater marshes, a white cedar swamp and open fields. The rest of the park contains a northeastern hardwood forest. Cheesequake State Park includes a variety of things to do, including camping, hiking, picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing and hunting. There are five trails, 52 tent and trailer campsites and the six-acre Hook Creek Lake, which accommodates swimmers, kayaking, fishing and canoeing. Picnicking areas include playground equipment, shelters, play fields and up to 150 people.

J.J Bitting Brewing Company


J.J Bitting Brewing Company was the first brewery in Woodbridge Township to reopen its doors after the repeal of prohibition in 1933. The three-story building has since been renovated and is recognized as the second best brewpub in America, according to BeerAdvocate.com. This local attraction also features special events such as poker tournaments, karaoke and live music performances.
