Keeping a shotgun clean helps maintain the weapon.
The Browning Auto 5, a semi-automatic shotgun with a five-round capacity, was developed by John Browning and first manufactured in the early years of the 20th century. The Auto 5 was continuously produced until 1998, and it was manufactured in 12-, 16- and 20-gauge models. It's known for its squared top at the back of the receiver (it's sometimes referred to as "humpbacked").
Instructions
1. Verify the gun is unloaded. Check the magazine and chamber for ammunition.
2. Remove the barrel from the gun. Open the bolt by pulling it towards the back of the gun and locking it in place. Push the barrel towards the back of the gun and unscrew the cap at the top of the magazine. Remove the gun forearm first and then slide the barrel forward off the gun.
3. Clean the barrel and the receiver with gun oil. Wipe the interior of the barrel using a oil-soaked rag on a small shaft or gun cleaning rod. Wipe all portions of the receiver while keeping the bolt locked open. Releasing the bolt when the barrel is not in place can damage the gun. Clean any accumulated lead with a brass brush on the cleaning rod.
4. Replace the forearm and barrel. Cycle the breech forward and wipe any exposed surfaces in the breech bolt.
