What Is Molle Gear

MOLLE is a type of load bearing equipment used by the United States Army. It stands for Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment. It uses nylon webbing stitched onto backpacks and other equipment which allows accessories to be easily attached.

History

MOLLE was created in 1997 and was derived from the Pouch Attachment Ladder System. It is in widespread use even outside of military applications.

Components

MOLLE consists of a rucksack, pouches and vests. It is easily configured to fit a situation.

Benefits

The MOLLE system allows the weight to be evenly distributed, making it easier to carry, and has better suspension than the previous ALICE system.

Features

MOLLE comes standard with a hydration pouch and padded straps to make it more comfortable.

Comfort

According to Olive Drab, a belt and suspension system allow the weight to be transferred to the hips, so there is less strain on the wearer's back.

Adoption

MOLLE and variations on the system have been adopted by militaries all over the world. It has become a gold standard for load bearing equipment.
