The shipping of airsoft guns is often restricted.
The reception for new airsoft guns, which fire plastic rounds using compressed air or pistons, has varied from country to country. Some countries consider airsoft guns safe toys, while others consider the guns to be dangerous weapons. They may be right. According to a study done by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, in 2005 there were more than 19,000 air-gun-related injuries. But whether or not a location thinks that they are safe, the import of these guns is restricted in many areas of the world.
National Laws
Some countries do not allow for the shipping and importation of airsoft guns. In Canada and Australia, it is legal to ship airsoft guns with a firearms license. In New Zealand and Germany, it is legal to ship in semiautomatic weapons, but not fully automatic weapons, even if they have been modified to be semiautomatic. Airsoft is completely illegal in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
Into America
The United States does allow for the shipping and import of airsoft guns. However, all airsoft guns imported are required to abide by certain regulations. The guns must have a 6mm orange stripe around the barrel in order to show that they are replicas and not real guns. Also, the manufacturer of the airsoft gun is not allowed to place any trademark on the guns that mimics a real gun, except where it is permitted by the maker of the real firearm. Any airsoft gun that does not fulfill these requirements will be seized at customs.
Other Laws
Although it may be legal to own airsoft guns in your country, it may not be legal in your city. If it is illegal to possess an airsoft gun in your local area, then it will not be shipped there. Some U.S. cities where it is illegal to ship an airsoft gun are: New York City and all five burroughs; Chicago; Philadelphia; Johnson City, Tennessee; and Washington, D.C.
The states that restrict the shipping of airsoft guns are: Illionois (air guns that fire over 700 feet per second are not allowed); Michigan (cannot be imported unless they are tested by local ballistics experts); and New Jersey (cannot be imported without an approved firearms permit).
