Summer cadet programs cultivate discipline, responsibility and teamwork.
Summer military programs are offered by both military academies and military bases throughout the state of California. These programs, designed for youths aged 5 to 17, help enhance the lives of children, and polish their abilities and attitudes as they advance toward adulthood. Summer military cadet programs in California target five key values: self-discipline, independent thought, self-confidence, the motivation of self and others, and the honing of essential skills, including time management, planning and goal setting.
California Wing Cadet Programs
The California Wing Cadet Summer program takes place at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California. The application requires several forms of documentation. This program is large, sponsored by three cooperative groups: the California Wing Cadet Programs, Nevada Wing Cadet Programs and the Cadet Training Group (CTG). Transportation to Camp Pendleton is not included in the package and attendees must make their own travel arrangements via commercial airline or Amtrak. Completion of this program qualifies young cadets for more advanced programs like Search & Rescue Operations and Communications Training.

Sea Cadet Corps
Sea Cadets sometimes get to tour Navy ships and shore stations.
The Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) is a nationwide program sponsored by the U.S. Navy. The NSCC is for young Americans, ages 13 to 17, with a desire to learn about Navy life. Sea Cadets are authorized to wear official Navy uniforms marked with the Sea Cadet Corps insignia. The objectives of the program include instilling in cadets a sense of pride, responsibility, patriotism and courage. Cadets are instructed in and out of the classroom in military drills, basic seamanship and leadership. Local Sea Cadet units often take part in community events like fairs and parades, or clothing and food drives.

The Navy League
The Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC) is open to both boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 13. The purpose of the program is to introduce American youth to military and maritime life. The NLCC's main aim is to cultivate camaraderie and promote knowledge of the military command structure. Young Navy League cadets drill in much the same way as their older Sea Cadet counterparts. They also train in nautical skills like signaling, first aid, water safety, knot tying and firefighting.
