Summer camps include many more activities than just camping.
With summers off from school, teenagers can enroll in summer camps to fill their time, learn new skills and make new friends. A variety of residential summer camps exist throughout the United States and Canada. Some are traditional summer camps where guests enjoy hiking and other outdoor activities. There are also many summer camps that focus on specific areas and skills, like academics, art and technology.
Whistler Adventure Camp
Located in Whistler, British Columbia, the Whistler Adventure Camp is geared for 13 to 17 year olds. The program lasts for five weeks, during which participants spend much of their time outside. The goal of the camp is to introduce participants to many different outdoor activities, including mountain biking, kayaking, rock climbing and snowboarding. Through their participation in these activities, teens will develop their leadership abilities, social skills and their independence.
Participants go on three-day camping trips every other week where they learn survival skills, first aid and wilderness safety. On evenings and weekends, participants can choose from activities like white water rafting, paintball, excursions to Vancouver and skiing.
