Video games can be an enjoyable hobby, but the cost of building a collection can be overwhelming for players. However, there are places where used games and equipment can be purchased for reasonable, and often downright cheap, prices.
Instructions
1. Attend garage sales. Video games are often found at these sales as children get bored with their old titles and as they grow up. Prices are generally reasonable, but you can always haggle if the price is a little bit higher than you feel comfortable paying.
2. Go to thrift stores. Stores like Goodwill and The Salvation Army frequently will have used video games on their shelves. Prices tend to be a bit higher than you will find at garage sales, but there are still plenty of bargains. Games tend to sell quickly from thrift stores, but the stores also replenish their inventory on an almost constant basis, so frequently visit your favorite locations.
3. Visit eBay. Just about every game you can imagine is regularly put up for auction on eBay. You won't always be able to get a great deal, but you do get to set your own price limits. Generally, you will be able to get lower prices if the auction is ending at a slow time, such as at 6 a.m.
4. Use Craigslist. If you live anywhere near a major city in the United States, you will find dozens of Craigslist ads every day listing video games for sale. These prices tend to be fair to high, but you can find bargains on a daily basis. The good deals will move very quickly, though, so don't expect to be able to buy anything cheaply if the ad has been up for more than an hour or so.
5. Locate flea markets. Old-fashioned flea markets are still regularly held all over the world. The amount of games and their price ranges can vary widely. Arrive as early as possible, as it's not uncommon for vendors to go around to other sellers and buy the most desirable items right away. Feel free to negotiate prices with sellers here as well.
