Stucco is a hardy building material, but it is prone to staining and getting dingy over time. While you can simply whitewash over the stains, if you do not remove them they will ultimately reappear in time. Fortunately, removing stains of all types from stucco is a relatively simple, although potentially time-consuming process. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Spray down the plants around the house and the walls themselves. Use the garden hose. This will rinse any dirt and hanging debris off the stucco and protect the plants from the cleaning chemicals you are about to use.
2. Cover plants adjacent to the house with tarps. Household bleach can kill plants, so covering them will keep them safe from splatter.
3. Mix the bleach with water in the pump sprayer. Use the concentration recommended by the manufacturer for cleaning. It will be slightly different for each brand depending on how the bleach was made and bottled.
4. Spray down the stucco. Start at the top and work all the way down. Once you have treated the entire area, return to the top and re-spray it. Then you can scrub off stains using the scrub brush or the bristle broom. The bleach will lighten stains, kill mold and mildew and get the stucco ready for a new coat of paint, should you decide to go that route.
5. Rinse down the wall. Use the garden hose and lots of water. Bleach is essentially a "green" cleaner, so as long as you dilute it sufficiently during the rinsing down process you should not incur damage to your vegetation.
