Crafts, sports, hiking and horseback riding are among the activities for ages six through 16 at Rockbrook Camp for Girls in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Located in the western North Carolina town of Brevard, Rockbrook hosts 11-day and 26-day camping sessions for girls, ranging in price from $2,300 to $4,300 in the summer of 2010. The fee includes meals, activities and weekly laundry service. Girls share a cabin with about eight other campers who are in the same grade. Camp Timberlake for Boys


About 15 miles east of Asheville, North Carolina, you'll find Camp Timberlake for Boys. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, this Christian camp offers on-site and off-site activities for boys ages seven to 16. On-site adventures include canoeing, fencing, mountain biking, paintball, soccer and target shooting. Excursions away from camp include trout fishing, river rafting and water skiing. Camp sessions vary in length from six days to five weeks, with prices ranging from $1,150 to $4,950 for the summer of 2010.

Sea Turtle Camp


Youth with an interest in marine biology can have a hands-on summer experience at Sea Turtle Camp in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. The camp is for those ages 13 to 17, and campers spend their overnight hours at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. They spend five or 10 days at Sea Turtle Camp, where activities include volunteering at a sea turtle hospital and evening and early morning walks to find sea turtle nests. Campers also explore coastal reserves and estuaries, hear from guest speakers and plant sea oats to help preserve area dunes. Costs range from $1,295 to $2,495 for the summer of 2010 and include lodging, meals, activities and airport transportation. The fee covers all aspects of camp life, except for horseback riding, paintball, clothing and special requests.

Surf Camp


Young people who love the ocean and adventure may enjoy a visit to Surf Camp in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. A six-day camping experience for kids includes surfing at four different islands and overnight stays at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. The camp boasts a 3-to-1 student/teacher ratio and includes a visit to the state aquarium, a surfboard factory and a sea turtle hospital.
