Create invitations for your birthday party with Open Office.
If you have an upcoming birthday party, you can use Open Office to make your invitation cards. Open Office includes a variety of templates you can download from the Internet. The templates come with an existing layout, making them easier to modify. You can change anything from the text to the picture on the birthday invitation. When you're done, simply save it until you're ready to send the invitations or print them right away.
Instructions
1. Select "File," "New" and "Templates and Documents" from the OpenOffice Writer menu. Click "Get more templates online" at the bottom of the "Templates and Documents - Samples" dialog box. You are directed to the OpenOffice Services page.
2. Type "invitation" into the search field at the top, left of the page and click the "Search" button. A variety of invitation templates appears.
3. Select the invitation template you want to use, such "Kids Party invite." Click the "Use It" button. The "File Download" box opens.
4. Click "Save" to download the template. The "Save As" dialog box opens. Navigate to the folder on your computer where you want the file saved and click "Save."
5. Close the web page and return to OpenOffice Writer.
6. Click "File" and "Open" in the menu and double-click the template you recently saved. It loads in OpenOffice Writer.
7. Place your cursor over the existing text to modify it. Add your birthday party's date, time and place. Include the RSVP and any other details you want to add.
8. Customize the title or leave it as is. To change an existing image on the invitation, click on it and press "Delete." The image is removed. Select "Insert," "Picture" and "From File." The "Insert picture" dialog box displays. Double-click the image you'd like to use.
9. Select "File" and "Save" from the menu to save the invitation card.
