Typing class doesn't have to be just boring drills!
As computers take on a more and more important role in our lives, being able to operate a computer with speed and efficiency has also become an important job and life skill. For this reason, many schools require their students to learn typing. But that doesn't mean it can't be fun.
Type Type Revolution
Type Type Revolution is a variation on the popular arcade dancing game Dance Dance Revolution. However, instead of asking the player to dance to the beats of the music, players must type specific letters at the appropriate time in sync with the beat of the songs. The letters change as the song goes on to ensure that players move their hands around the keyboard. And there's no time for hunting and pecking in the more difficult songs.
Sunrise Typer
In Sunrise Typer, the player must type out a series of passages for each level, rather than isolated words. As the player types, the sun is gradually coerced into rising. Unlike many typing games, this one requires players to type not just the letters themselves, but to use correct punctuation, capitalization and other linguistic features as they type.
Typer Shark
This game from Pop Cap places your player in the role of a deep sea diver who must descend into an ocean full of sharks and piranhas, protected only by his trusty stun gun. Players are scored based on accuracy and speed. This game is playable online in a basic version. A deluxe version can be purchased from Pop Cap.
Typing Terror
In Typing Terror, players must help a plucky little alien defend his ship from an army of invading robots. To do this, he must type the name of each robot into his control panel and disable it. All of the robots have words or common acronyms like FYI for names, however a few will try to throw the player off by reversing the names or writing them upside down. If enough robots get through, then the game is lost and the player must start over. There are a total of five levels, each one with longer and more difficult words. A boss then must be defeated.
Alpha Attack
In Alpha Attack, the player takes control of the anti-aircraft guns of a city under bombardment. As bombs fall from the sky, each will have a letter on them, and players must type the letters on the bombs to shoot them down before they level the city below. Should a bomb get through to the bunkers below the city, then it's game over.
