1. Inspect your rash in a mirror. How does it look? If the red rash is scaly, it could be a certain selection of disorders. However, if it is not scaly, it could be a completely different set of skin problems.
2. Feel the rash. If it is rounded it could be many different afflictions. However, if it is flat, it can be an entirely different set of problems. And yet, if it is dry and flaky it could be totally different. Know that red, non-scaly, raised rashes are most commonly caused by insect bites. These small red bumps will be similar to pimples, except they will be more numerous. Newborns also have similar looking rashes known as Strawberry Nevus.
3. Understand that red, non-scaly, flat rashes can be the sign of more serious disorders. Tops among them is measles. Another common affliction is cellulitis, which results in tender skin and must be cured with antibiotics. A serious rash with these symptoms is Stevens Johnson Syndrome which can be a sign of a reaction to medication.
4. Investigate red, scaly rashes more closely, these can be serious signs of long-term skin disorders. Eczema, ringworm and lupus all share a similar look and all have vary degrees of seriousness and remedies.
