Zoll Aed Plus Vs Powerheart G3

If all that stands between you and death is the shock that can be generated by a defibrillator, you want to purchase one that is going to be dependable. Needing a jolt from this device and not being able to count on it can be the difference between life and death.

Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

An automated external defibrillator, or AED, is a computerized device used for medical purposes. It aids first-responders, emergency personnel, and other people who are attempting to save the life of a person who has just experienced cardiac arrest. AED use is recommended in the Cardiac Arrest Survival Act (H.R. 2498) as a life-saving device needed for all federal buildings.

Types

The American Heart Association does not recommend any particular type of AED, and there are many brands in existence. One of these is the Powerheart AED G3, manufactured by Cardiac Science. Another AED, Zoll AED Plus, is manufactured by Zoll Medical Corp. Not all AED's are equal in dependability or function.

Powerheart G3 Automatic

Cardiac Science's Powerheart G3 AED is available in automatic and semi-automatic forms. The automatic doesn't require the press of a button to initiate the device's shock capability. It analyzes the heart rhythm, determining just when the shock is needed. Then the machine warns the user (via the text display on the machine as well as through a audible command), to step away from the victim while the shock is administered. This machine, as well as its semi-automatic counterpart, has a seven-year warranty and provides consumers with a four-year guarantee that battery will remain operational and will be be replaced as needed.

Powerheart G3 Semi-Automatic

The semi-automatic version of the Powerheart G3 does require the user to press a button to initiate shock treatment. But the semi-automatic model--and the automatic Powerheart G3s--perform daily self-tests on device hardware and its components (software, pads, battery). Self-testing ensures that the device will work in an emergency.

Both versions of the Powerheart also partially charge the electronics in the system every week. They also complete a full charge on their own each month, to ensure that all electronics are operating at full potential all the time.

Zoll AED Plus FDA Recall

Unlike the Powerheart G3 manufacturer, the Zoll AED Plus manufacturer has not been as progressive in taking steps to eliminate the potential for device failure during a crisis. In February 2009, the Food and Drug Administration issued a Class I Recall of the Zoll AED Plus because of device failure.

This recall stemmed from a case in which a semi-automatic Zoll AED Plus defibrillator failed to perform as expected. The energy needed for the charge did not occur, and the shock could not be delivered. The company has been required to inform consumers of the need to replace the battery for this device once every three years, and to download new software for the device.

Plan A Fundraising Event

Fund-raisers are truly a win-win situation. People like to get involved in activities that help others--and worthy individuals or causes benefit from those efforts. There are tons of reasons to raise money, and there are just as many types of fund-raisers. Raising money requires careful organizing. But if you have a clear plan, the money will flow.

Instructions

1. Define the Cause. Clarify your goals and determine who will get the money you raise. If you want to raise funds for breast cancer, for example, narrow your cause to raising money for breast cancer research in a specific region of the country, or for families of terminally ill breast cancer victims.

2. Hook up with a national or local organization. It will help you create more awareness for your cause, and it can also give you established guidelines for time-tested fund-raising ideas.

3. Decide on the type of fund raiser. Letter campaigns are cheap and easy to orchestrate. You can plan a low-key event such as a pancake breakfast, a car wash or a bake sale. Or you can hold a large-scale event such as an auction, a casino night or a run/walk. This last one will demand considerable planning, time and effort -- and sometimes money.

4. Set the date. Choose a date far enough in advance to give you ample time to prepare. Be aware of conflicting local and/or national events, as well as holidays. Or coordinate your event with a significant date or time of year. For example, raise money for melanoma research during Skin Cancer Awareness Month (May).

5. Get help. Put out a call for volunteers and utilize their areas of expertise and/or connections. Delegate carefully, creating committees and subcommittees if the event size calls for it. Hold periodic meetings to monitor the progress of your preparations.

6. Secure a speaker or choose an honoree. Choose someone who has a relationship with your organization or cause, or someone who will add an element of glamor or urgency. Consider a high-profile businessperson or celebrity.

7. Set a budget. Draw up a budget that will keep operating costs at a minimum so you can make a profit. Estimate attendance, cost of decorations, refreshments, printing, mailing expenses and so on. Set the couvert (the cost of expenses per person) and then the ticket prices.

8. Get seed money. Ask businesses, from mom-and-pop's to big corporations, to underwrite certain aspects of the event, such as the venue rental, advertisements, programs, invitations and music. Request in-kind donations of food and drink in exchange for a listing in the ad or program. Provide each donor with a letter expressing the nature of the gift, cash value and tax-deductible information.

9. Choose a suitable venue. Network with the Lions Club, American Legion, town halls, galleries, schools and churches. Check out restaurants and catering halls, too. Book the venue as far in advance as possible, and ask for a non-profit discount. Contact local law enforcement for procedures you may need to follow for public venues. Determine the need for security and liability insurance, as well.

10. Create invitations. On the invitation, the honoree's name should be prominent, and committee members should be listed. Include tax-deduction information, a description of the organization, sponsors and donors. Invite reporters and photographers to your event for publicity.

Indoor Inflatable Games

Church outreach programs, school celebrations, fund-raisers, charity organizations and corporations organizing employee appreciation picnics commonly use inflatable games to attract participants. Even though these games are quite large, they easily adapt to indoor environments. State departments may require inflatable game companies to carry liability insurance for their participants. When hosting an event open to the public, state-certified inspectors -- employed by the company or the state -- review each game for compliance with state regulations.

Games for Kids

Moonbounces or bounce houses are commonly rented for birthday parties and youth events. Each bounce is an open space for jumping with four mesh "walls," measuring approximately 14 feet by 14 feet. Participants are often grouped by size and age to avoid accidental injury from colliding as they bounce. Combination units offer a bouncing area, a few vertical obstacles and a slide exit. Inflatable slides are available for rental as single units and can rise as high as 30 feet. Adventure pieces are larger than standard bounces and include various inflatable playthings. Adventure pieces fit in gymnasiums or community rooms and commonly measure 30 feet by 30 feet.

Competition Games

Volleyball, dodgeball and soccer are available as inflatable games requiring small teams to compete. Participants often have a time limit so others can also play. The inflatable portion of each game modifies the traditional version to challenge players and provide a bouncy element.

Two players can compete by being strapped to bungees cords and attempting to reach a goal while being pulled in the opposite direction. Inflatable jousting and bouncy boxing rings allow players to compete using soft jousting poles or boxing gloves and headgear. Water tag is an inflatable maze outline or enclosed dome maze. Participants use squirt guns that activate vests worn by other players. Not much water is dispensed, so there's no need to worry about damage during indoor use. In human foosball, participants strap themselves into belts attached to the inflatable arena, enabling them to move side-to-side rather than front-to-back. Teams compete to score by hitting a ball into the opposite goal.

Sports Games

Interactive inflatable sports are used at various events, allowing players to show their skills. Mechanical bulls surrounded by inflatable enclosures, versions of Twister, football and basketball, as well as baseball speed pitches are some common inflatable games for indoor events. Participants in human bowling ride inside a large metal ball and roll toward a set of inflatable pins. A surrounding inflatable lane ensures participants do not roll away.

Obstacle Courses

Inflatable obstacle courses allow participants to test their agility and physical fitness in a race-type game. Units often are inflated and assembled in separate parts, since they tend to be too large and heavy to transport in one piece. Obstacle courses can center around a theme or include various challenges such as rope climbs, inflatable rock walls, slides and tunnels. Whether your party or event has a western, sports, medieval or some other theme, you can find an inflatable course that works for you.

Considerations

Wearing shoes in inflatable games is prohibited. When announcing your event, instruct participants to wear socks for their safety. When considering inflatable games for your event, ensure 15-amp power supplies are available. Some games require one to four dedicated circuit breakers. Most only need one standard, grounded outlet. Using the units indoors requires weighted sandbags on each corner to keep the game from moving and causing injury. Measure the ceiling height and open space of the event location prior to contracting services. Ensure all items fit without the possibility of damage to the unit. This also avoids injury in case of accidental deflation due to tearing of the unit.

What Is Ultimate Bet

Ultimate Bet is a virtual poker room.

Although the legality of online poker is in limbo in the United States, millions of people from around the world, many of them U.S. players, play online poker every day and one of the most popular destinations is UltimateBet. UltimateBet offers several variations of poker and limited forms of blackjack. Some criticism from the poker community has been lobbied at UltimateBet's security.

Identification

Formed in 1999, UltimateBet focuses mainly on Texas Hold'em poker. The company is owned by Tokwiro Enterprises, which operates out of the Kahnawake Mohawk Territory located in southern Canada, according to an MSNBC report. The Kahnawake Gaming Commission of the Kahnawake territory also licenses the site.

Significance

In 2008, UltimateBet merged with Absolute Poker to form the Cereus network, according to an article on poker news website PocketFives.com. According to poker traffic reporting service PokerScout, in late October of 2009 the Cereus Network ranked in sixth place for most used poker website based on the number of cash players. Cereus and Ultimate Bet have an average of 4,000 cash players online during peak hours. By comparison, the most used poker site According to PokerScout is PokerStars with an average of 35,000 players at any given time.

Types

According to its website, UltimateBet offers six different types of hold'em variations: Texas Holdem, Omaha Hi/Lo, 7 Card Stud, Half-No Limit and Half-Omaha and HORSE/HOSE, a round-robin mix of poker variants. The only game offered by UltimateBet other than poker is blackjack, in the form of single deck games and shootout tournaments.

Considerations

The legality of online poker remains in a gray area, according to a report by Tamara Audi and Amy Schatz for the Wall Street Journal. The United States Justice Department believes poker and other internet gambling violates interstate wagering law, with the exception for horse betting. No federal law restricted the playing of online poker as of 2009, but 13 states have banned, or partially banned online poker, including New York and Nevada. Outside the U.S., online poker is by and large a legal and popular form of entertainment.

Criticism

Some questions have been raised about the security of UltimateBet's encryption system. MSNBC reported that a 2008 lawsuit filed against UltimateBet claimed cheating on the network gave some players an unfair advantage and led to millions in fraudulent winnings. Further adding to case was that it took a team of UltimateBet poker aficionados to analyze data to find players with highly unusual winning percentages, not the gaming commission regulating the site.

Gunbased Activities In Chicago

Chicago is a city that's very well known for the strict gun control regulations that residents have to follow in order to own firearms. However, there are still activities that have guns as their central theme in the city. Some of them are for gun enthusiasts, but others are of a more political nature.

Gun Shows

While not as common as in other areas of Illinois, Chicago does have gun shows. These events are typically geared toward historical learning rather than the buying and selling of firearms. If you intend to be able to purchase a firearm at one of these shows you will need to have all necessary identification as well as your FOID (firearm owner identification) card to prove that you can place the order. All Chicago laws will apply.

Paintball

While not technically a firearm-central activity, paintball is a sport that's allowed in the city of Chicago as long as you are in an acceptable venue. Similar activities, such as Airsoft and laser tag are also options for those looking for a safe gun-simulation activity.

Gun Turn In

There are programs across the city of Chicago that allow people to turn in guns with no questions asked. As an incentive, pre-paid credit cards are given to people who turn in guns to these programs, with the most money offered for assault weapons. This is one way the city collects unwanted or illegal guns and keeps them off the streets.

Shooting Ranges

There are a variety of gun ranges in the Chicago area. If you legally own a firearm and want to take it to shoot then you can contact any of the local gun ranges. For instance, the Midwest Gun Range in Lyons, Illinois (www.midwestguns.com/chicago-gun-range.htm) or the Illinois Gun Works shop and range in Elmwood Park (www.illinoisgunworks.com) offers a range that you can purchase use-time on. Appointments and payment of fees must be made in advance.

Reprogram An Ion Tboard Paintball

When in a paintball competition, or just playing with your friends, having the right equipment can be the difference between winning or going home covered in paint. The Ion T-Board is a paintball gun control module that you can use to replace the standard board on your gun. This board will allow you to create a custom program to change settings such as the rate of fire of your gun. In order to reprogram the unit, you must enter setup mode.

Start A Powersports Business

This is a typical all terrain vehicle sold by a powersports dealer.

The powersports industry encompasses several types of small recreational motor vehicles used throughout the United States. Some powersports vehicles, such as snowmobiles or personal watercraft, are only ridden in certain areas or at certain times of the year. Other powersports vehicles, such as motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles (ATV's), can be found in many locations.

To appeal to the maximum number of customers, many powersports dealers carry more than one type of vehicle. Along with powersports sales, the dealerships commonly offer financing options and vehicle service. Some dealers also offer men's and women's riding apparel (See References 1).

Instructions

1. Examine your regional market. To define your market, look at two factors: your region's geography; and the types of recreational activities residents enjoy. For example, if you are located near the Atlantic coast, your geography won't include mountains or snow, but will include miles of connected waterways and many acres of privately owned land.

Using this information, you might assume that there's a potentially good market for personal watercraft, and perhaps for all-terrain vehicles as well. To verify your impressions, look at regional sales data supplied by national manufacturers of personal watercraft (or other powersports vehicles). If the vehicles are registered with your state Department of Motor Vehicles (land vehicles), or your state Department of Natural Resources (personal watercraft), these agencies may provide this collective data in summary form.

Finally, obtain information on income demographics for your regional market. Purchases of powersports vehicles (with motorcycles a possible exception), represent purchases made with discretionary dollars. If your regional market includes only a small percentage of higher income residents, selling these motorized "toys" may present an uphill battle. For regional demographic data, contact your local Chamber of Commerce (See Resources).

2. Look at your competition. In analyzing your market, you may find two types of competitors: dealers that specialize in only one powersports vehicle, but carry several brands of that vehicle; or dealers that carry several types of powersports vehicles. Study your competitors' product lines, and identify any possible market niches that have not been addressed (See Resources).

As an example, your competitor carries a good selection of light and fast motorcycles. However, although your area is popular with touring bikers, your competitor does not stock any touring motorcycles.

3. Handle your business logistics. To define your business structure, meet with a certified public accountant experienced in working with powersports, boating, or other businesses that market "toys." Next, consult with a commercial insurance agent well versed in the hazards presented by powersports vehicles. Finally, visit your city or county clerk's office for a business license.

4. Choose your dealership location. Select a location easily accessible from several regions, and readily visible from the main road. Make sure the facility has at least two entry and exit driveways and has a large customer parking lot for busy sales days. If your company shares parking space with another bustling business, arrange for overflow parking when necessary.

Most importantly, ensure that your location has sufficient outdoor space to display your powersports vehicles. Although you may have a few gleaming vehicles in an inside showroom, the vehicles displayed outside will help to attract attention (and customers) to your business. Plan to add a roof or canopy over the vehicles to protect them.

5. Hire experienced professional staff. Keep in mind that part of what you're selling is the powersports experience, and that feeling can be best communicated by an enthusiastic sales staff. As is also the case with boat sales, employees who own, operate, and maintain the product they're selling relate very well to customers.

If your facility will have a service department, hire employees with service certifications for the vehicles you sell. Send your service manager and other key personnel to a manufacturer-sponsored "service school" for proper training.

6. Order your powersports vehicles. Resist the temptation to order every style and color of powersports vehicle, as that represents extra expense and potentially unnecessary inventory. Stock three versions of each vehicle: budget, mid-range, and higher end for buyers with fewer budget concerns.

For example, when ordering personal watercraft, select three models for each manufacturer: standard one-person model; standard two-person model; and deluxe two-person model. For each model, stock a couple of different color choices and trim packages. Offer a "special order" option to cater to varied customer tastes. Obtain product information and graphics for all models.

7. Schedule your grand opening. Time this signature event for the beginning of your powersports season. If you sell several types of vehicles, choose the vehicle and time of year that will offer the "biggest splash." Polish your vehicles until they shine, and arrange them so that buyers can walk around every vehicle on the lot.

Put together grand opening price and product packages that represent terrific values, and offer door prizes and refreshments throughout the day.

Publicize the grand opening with ads in powersports magazines and regional newspapers, and with a radio remote broadcast with a popular personality. Invite powersports personalities for extra appeal.

The Utah Laws On Airsoft Guns

Real gun or Airsoft?

Airsoft guns are not toys and they are controlled by laws in parts of Utah. You must know the law in your location or you risk serious penalties.

Airsoft and the Law

Airsoft guns use compressed gas to fire plastic pellets. Although made of plastic, some Airsoft guns look exactly like real guns. That can be a real problem in a dark alley when a cop is facing a 14-year-old kid who has one in his hands. The purchase of an Airsoft gun is completely unregulated. A felon who cannot buy a real gun can purchase an Airsoft gun to use in a robbery, without any check on his identity or paper trail showing who he is. An Airsoft gun with the plastic tip removed looks exactly like a real gun to a convenience store clerk.

United States Law

Federal law requires that each Airsoft gun be manufactured with an orange tip measuring 6 mm (.24 inches). However, there is no requirement that the owner of the gun keep the orange tip on the gun. In addition, there are no laws governing the sale or use of Airsoft guns. Federal law allows anyone of any age to carry one anywhere and show it in any situation without any proof of identity.

Utah Law

Utah has no state laws governing Airsoft guns other than the federal law requiring the orange tip and the lack of any law requiring the tip to remain on the gun. However, the cities of North Ogden, Ogden, Centerville, South Jordan and South Ogden have laws prohibiting ownership of Airsoft guns. These laws have been uniformly enforced by law enforcement after an incident of mistaken identity by a police officer who faced an Airsoft gun without the orange tip and thought it was a real gun. Other cities throughout the country have laws ranging from New York City’s requirement that the entire gun be made of bright colored plastic, to the perverse law in some Illinois cities that prohibit the sale or transportation of Airsoft guns but allow the removal of the orange tips.

Why Are Scuba Tanks Placed In Water For Refilling

Each scuba tank is rated for a specific pressure (e.g., 3000 psi) and maximum pressure capacity. Air compressors to refill scuba tanks can include a water bath to cool tanks.

Significance

Air tanks are placed in a holding container filled with water (water bath) during the filling process. The water bath provides a cooling environment to stabilize the warmed tank and a medium to detect any minor leaks in the tank walls while cleaning away surface salt and residue.

Concern

Water baths sometimes are used in air refill stations to provide fast, hot fills for customers (divers) who are anxious to get back in the water. A major concern with water baths is the possibility of getting water into the tank, compressor or equipment, which could cause corrosion or contamination.

Good Practice

According to Sandiegodiving.com in the article, "The Art of a Good Air Fill, " tanks should be filled to (or near) maximum working pressure. The maximum recommended fill rate for tanks is 300 psi per minute.

Misconceptions

According to Fred Calboun, PE, in the article, "Scuba Tanks," a water bath during filling provides very little measurable cooling to stabilize the air tank (which is filled with warm air).

Considerations

Allow adequate time to fill the tank in stages to provide optimum air fills. Fast fills can yield short fills; cooled water baths can promote overfilling tanks beyond their capacity.

Make Homemade Blow Guns And Air Guns

One of the most basic weapons is a tube that fires a dart at a target. You can make a homemade blow gun from a few supplies commonly found around the house. The blow gun can just as easily be adapted into an air-powered gun using a common party balloon from a toy store or party shop. You do not need any skill to make the blow gun or adapt it into an air gun, but get adult supervision if you are underage since a cutting edge will be used.

1. Hold the mechanical pencil by the eraser end in one hand. Hold the pliers in the other hand. Pull the metal barrel off the pointed end of the pencil with the pliers.

2. Shake the pointed end of the pencil downward. Grab hold of the lead tube that is now exiting the pointed end with your fingers. Pull the lead tube out of the pointed end of the pencil.

3. Hold the mechanical pencil by the pointed end in one hand. Hold the pliers in the other hand. Pull the eraser cap off the eraser end of the pencil with the pliers.

4. Dispose of the metal barrel, lead tube and eraser cap in the trash.

5. Hold the pencil by the pocket clip on its side. Insert a foam dart, back end first, into the pointed end of the pencil that is now a blow gun.

6. Raise the back end of the blow gun to your lips. Take a deep breath. Wrap your lips around the hole at the back end of the blow gun.

7. Aim the blow gun at a far wall. Exhale quickly through your mouth to fire the foam dart at the far wall.

Making the Air Gun

8. Cut off the skinny neck of a party balloon with the scissors. Discard the skinny neck in the trash.

9. Stretch the open end of the party balloon over the hole at the eraser end of the blow gun. Secure the end of the party balloon to the eraser end of the blow gun with strips of duct tape.

10. Blow into the other end of the blow gun to inflate the party balloon. Place the jaws of the clothespin around the neck of the party balloon to keep the air from escaping.

11. Place a foam dart, back end first, into the hole in the air gun you have now just made. Hold the air gun by the pocket clip on its side.

12. Aim the air gun at a far wall. Release the clamp of the clothespin to fire the foam dart at the far wall.

Winterize A Hot Water Tank In A Travel Trailer

Winter maintenance is important to keep your travel trailer in good shape for spring.

If you do not winterize your travel trailer, your pipes could burst, your water heater could be damaged and your water tank could crack, costing a lot of money to repair or replace. Filling your water lines and drains with an RV antifreeze and draining and flushing your water heater, water storage tank, gray water tank and black water tank will prevent damage over the winter months. Draining your water heater is easy if your water heater has a petcock valve. If it do not have one, you should replace the plastic drain plug with a petcock valve to make it easier to drain the next time.

Instructions

1. Open the vent cover on the driver's side of the travel trailer where the water heater is located. Open the petcock valve on the bottom of the water heater. If your trailer does not have a petcock valve, use a wrench to unscrew the plastic drain plug from the water heater. Open the relief valve on the top of the water heater to allow air to go into the tank as the water drains out. Leave the petcock valve or drain plug off for the winter. Close the vent cover on the outside of the travel trailer.

2. Go inside the travel trailer and close the water heater bypass valve near the back of the water heater. The bypass valves will be open when the handles are parallel with the pipes. Turn the handles on the valves so the handles are perpendicular to the pipes to close the valve to the water heater. Now, you can add the RV antifreeze to the water lines without having to use 6 gallons of antifreeze to fill the water heater.

3. Flush the water lines to remove the RV antifreeze in the spring. Replace the plug, using teflon tape on the threads to seal the plug, or close the petcock valve. Open the bypass lines to fill the water heater with water before turning the power onto the water heater.

Make Wood Grips For A Paintball Gun

Making wooden grips for a paintball gun may require a little bit of effort, but it will set your paintball marker (also known as a paintball gun) apart from the others, making it stand out in a crowd. Moreover, customizing the grip to fit your hand can also help to reduce fatigue.

Instructions

1. Select a hardwood like cherry, which is less likely to splinter. Make sure the wood doesn't have a lot of sap oozing from it. Sap will get onto your tools and it's hard to clean off.

2. Ask the clerk for a "one-board foot" of cherry at a hardwood supply shop. The clerk should know what you mean. If he doesn't, a one-board foot means 144 cubic inches. Think of it as a board that is 12 inches square and 1 inch deep. Because boards are irregularly shaped, this is how hardwood is sold.

3. Unscrew the plastic grips on your paintball marker. Use these as a pattern for your new grips. Place the plastic grips with the flat side down on the cherrywood board. Use the pencil to trace the outline of the grips onto the board. Remember to trace the holes for the screws.

4. Use a coping saw to cut out the shapes you traced. Drill a hole in the cutouts, where the holes from the plastic grips were marked. Use a drill bit that is the same diameter as the screw shaft.

5. As you work, put your new handle grips onto the paintball marker periodically to check the fit. Use a rasp (surform) to roughly shape the grip by grating it down (like a cheese grater). Do the finer details with a file, including the grooves. Use the rough sand paper to smooth the wood and use the fine sand paper to finish it.

6. Stain the handle with wood stain. Hang the handle to stain it, looping string through the holes and around the screws that held the handle onto the marker. After the stain dries, apply the sealant to waterproof the wood. After the sealant dries, screw the handle back onto the marker with the original screws.

Put Goggles On

Put goggles on before taking a dip.

Whether you're about to go swimming, approaching a science project, or preparing to chop onions for dinner, wearing goggles is a great protective measure. Goggles provide a layer between your sensitive eyes and the elements, just as a car's windshield protects passengers from debris. There are many different styles, but putting goggles on generally requires a single set of actions.

Instructions

1. Hold the goggles by the lenses in one hand. Grip the adjustable band with the other hand.

2. Estimate whether or not the adjustable strap will be a good fit for your head by pulling it outward. When in doubt, leave more than enough slack on the adjustable strap. Tighten the strap once the goggles are in place.

3. Hold the lens portion of the goggles up to your face using one hand. Pull the strap around the back of your head using your other hand. The adjustable band should rest comfortably in the space above each ear.

4. Turn your head from side to side and gauge whether or not the goggles are too loose or too tight. They should not flop around, nor should you feel pressure in the eye area because of suction. Make the necessary adjustments to the adjustable band for comfortable wear.

Where To Get A Ps3 Controller Cheap

A PS3 Controller

Gamers know that the cost of their hobby isn't cheap. Whether you are buying systems for upwards of $200 or games that cost $60, cutting corners is essential if you are gaming on a budget. If you find yourself in need of a new PS3 controller, expect to pay $55 for it at a regular retail store. However, if you don't mind shopping around or purchasing something used, then you can purchase a PS3 controller for much less.

Buy Used

Gaming giant GameStop is a very large purveyor of used goods, and while they are most famous for selling used games, they also sell used controllers as well. Purchasing a used controller will generally cost about 20-30% less than new, and if you purchase one from GameStop, the controller is guaranteed to work, so you don't have to worry about purchasing another one if the controller is broken.

Look to the Internet

Many times Internet retailers like Amazon.com can offer substantial discounts on PlayStation 3 controllers, and can offer free shipping in addition to their deep discounts. You can also check sites like eBay and Craigslist, which have individuals selling their own controllers for very low prices. However, beware of sellers who would sell you a broken product, and make sure to research sellers or, if buying locally, ask to try the controller before you purchase it.

Non-Official Controllers

If you don't mind using a non-Sony PlayStation controller, there are plenty of options. Peripheral makers like MadCatz, Logitech, and DreamGear all have their own versions of the PS3 controller. Although the controllers will look a little different, they will interact just fine with your console and generally cost 30-40% less than new Sony-branded PS3 controllers.

Where To Buy Discount Fish Tank Supplies

When owning an aquarium of any size, finding discount tank supplies is essential to keeping costs to a minimum. When saving on needed supplies, the extra funds can go to other things such as more fish or attractive decorations. It can be easy to find discount tank supplies if you know where to get started.

Instructions

1. Check out online stores. Online stores have to charge shipping but the rates can be significantly lower, so much so that even with the shipping added you can still pay just a fraction of the cost of an item. Always try to get everything at one place so you save on the shipping and handling costs. Usually, ordering in bulk is a good idea just for this very reason. Be sure to check out the clearance section at all online stores. Stores such as Pet Solutions and Drs Foster Smith offer discount supplies for fish tanks as well as other pets.

2. Check the classified ads. This may seem like information everyone would know but consider that when people move, they don't always want to take a large aquarium with them. While some will only sell everything as a group, some will be willing to split their items up if it means they can make more money. This will still pass along savings to you by getting equipment and chemicals you might need. Purchasing an entire lot is sometimes less expensive than having to buy one large piece of equipment that you need.

3. Look at garage sales and estate sales. Garage and estate sales are excellent places to find good deals on aquarium equipment and fish tank supplies. You might not always know that they are offering these items unless they have an ad in the newspaper stating so, but if you shop these sales anyway it's a great resource.

4. Look for stores going out of business. Pet stores unfortunately do go out of business from time to time and while this is unfortunate for them, the consumer can receive excellent prices, far below the cost of retail. A store that is closing will offer their stock at a discount price to keep from having to write these items off as a loss. Plan to go there more than once since most stores start at a discount percentage and offer more as the weeks progress.

5. Browse flea markets. Some vendors at flea markets will have nothing but fish tank supplies for you to browse through. While these items may be used or items that are last year's products, you can find stock like fish food and chemicals, decorations, lighting and various other equipment at a very low price.

6. Shop at department stores. Target, Walmart, and Kmart are just a few of the department stores that have fish tank supplies at low prices. While you may not find everything you are looking for or high end stock, you can find the basics such as food and simple lighting. The Christmas season is an excellent opportunity to find deals since some stores offer a full aquarium set up at an affordable price as a seasonal incentive purchase.

Print Basketball Numbers On A Uniform With A Computer

Print basketball players' numbers onto iron-on transfer paper on your computer printer.

It used to be that basketball and other team sports uniforms had to be custom silk-screened or embroidered at great cost, but that isn't the case anymore. Today, you can print basketball players' numbers onto iron-on transfer paper using your computer and printer for a fraction of the cost of custom uniform numbering. Choose your number font and design, print and iron the number to the uniform. The process is simple enough that the whole basketball team can work together to print numbers for application to the uniforms.

Instructions

1. Read the iron-on transfer paper's packaging to verify that the iron-on transfer paper is formulated for the fabric of your uniform. For example, some iron-on transfer papers require the uniform to be at least a 50 percent cotton blend. If your uniform is polyester, purchase iron-on transfer paper formulated for polyester.

2. Wash the basketball uniform according to the fabric requirements using the manufacturer's recommended amount of clothes detergent. Dry the uniform as instructed on the uniform's care label.

3. Select the basketball number font and design from an online image or saved file. You can scan basketball number designs on your computer scanner, save the design, and use those numbers if desired.

4. Make adjustments to the direction of the basketball number. According to Hewlett-Packard, the number needs to be printed in reverse like it would look like in a mirror. This way when the number is ironed onto the basketball uniform, the number will be facing in the proper direction. Reverse the number design with the editing tools on your computer.

5. Save the basketball number design and print a sample on regular computer paper to see how the image, ink colors, and size will look on your uniform. Make any adjustments to the image direction, dimensions or colors to the saved file. Save the amended basketball number design.

6. Print the basketball number onto the iron-on transfer paper. According to Hewlett-Packard, do not use a laser printer.

7. Cut a ¼-inch wide border around the basketball number.

8. Place the basketball uniform on top of an ironing board with the surface you wish to transfer the number onto facing you. According to Hewlett-Packard, set the iron on a cotton setting without steam.

9. Center the number transfer on the uniform with the paper backing facing you. Press an iron firmly onto the paper backing of the transfer, rubbing the iron in a back and forth motion while holding the edges of the paper backing with your fingers. Iron for the required amount of time as specified by the brand of iron-on transfer paper you are using.

10. Remove the paper backing slowly by peeling back one corner a little at a time until you are sure the iron-on transfer is completely applied. Allow the basketball number to cure for about four hours.

Splatter Paint A Bedroom

Splatter Paint a Bedroom

If you want to splatter paint your bedroom walls, prepare to get a little messy. Splatter painting can be a fun activity, but it will require you to get paint just about everywhere in your room -- and on yourself. Wear old clothes and goggles and lay down drop cloths. There is not one right way to splatter paint walls. Every wall can look different; the lack of uniformity attests to the uniqueness and creativity of the technique. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Put on old clothes, goggles and plastic gloves. You are getting ready to get very messy.

2. Cover your bedroom floor with drop cloths and secure with painter's tape. Cover trim with painter's tape if you do not want it to be splattered.

3. Select between three and five colors to splatter on the walls. Pour the paint into separate buckets or trays.

4. Dip paint brushes of varying widths into the paint. The brushes should contain a good amount of paint, but should not be dripping with paint.

5. Flick the paint brush with a quick turn of your wrist so that the paint splatters on the wall. This technique will produce small splatters. Larger splatters require larger brushes or sponges.

6. Soak a large sea sponge into water. Squeeze out all the water. Dip the sponge into a bucket of paint. Cover it completely with paint.

7. Throw the sponge against the wall. The splatter will be much larger than the brush splatters. Repeat with different colors.

Get A Gun License In Australia

Laws for possessing a firearm in Australia were mainly arranged under the 1996 National Agreement of Firearm, which was created due to an event where a man using a semi-automatic rifle killed 35 people and injured 18 at Port Arthur in Tasmania. It's illegal in Australia to possess a firearm of any kind without a license.

2. Advise the customer service operator your "Genuine Reason" for why you want to own a firearm. For example, you can say that it will be for sport or target shooting.

3. Let the operator know what types of guns you'll be using to determine the category of license. Category A licenses include rimfire rifles, shot guns and air rifles. Category B licenses include centrefire rifles, and Category H licenses include pistols or hand guns.

4. Continue giving all information required by the operate. For example, for obtaining a hand gun you must have two references that are older than 18 years old and you must be over the age of 18 as well. Once finished, you will be sent a license application form in the mail, Genuine Reason Form and Firearms Safety Training (Long-arms) Course Form (P580). If you're applying for a Category A or B license you'll also receive a form to be exempt from the training if you have qualified experience.

5. Fill out and submit all of your forms. If approved, you will be admitted into the Target Shooting Club, which is required for the license. Once accepted you'll be contacted by phone or letter. You then must contact the Sydney International Shooting Centre to set up a time to take the Firearms Licence Qualification course. Once complete you will have to have your guns registered and you'll receive your license.

Start An Electronic Contract Manufacturing Business

Electronics manufacturing requires specialized equipment

Electronics manufacturing is a lucrative field that offers a lot of growth potential for the right company. Many original electronics manufacturers are choosing to outsource their manufacturing operations so they can concentrate on their core competency which is research and development. This outsourcing movement opens the market for contract manufacturers to take up the slack. For newcomers to the industry, the challenge will be maintaining equipment and expertise while also showcasing your talents to new customers.

Instructions

1. Register your business with the local county officials and purchase a business license. Due to the significant capital equipment requirements, it is necessary to incorporate your business. Contact U.S. Small Business Administration for assistance in determining where and garner start up financing. Their mandate is to help find you a lender and introduce you to the many loan and grant opportunities for businesses in the United States.

2. Lease a manufacturing space to support your new operation. Due to the noise and size of the required equipment, you should look in an area that already has manufacturing facilities. Residential and retail areas typically have noise restrictions that may prohibit your operation. Choose a building with at least 10,000 square feet of open floor space so your entire operation will fit in one area. Schedule an OSHA visit and get chemical clearance. Many of the materials used in electronics manufacturing, such as lead, are also potential environmental risks so you will need to have your manufacturing facility approved through OSHA. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will visit your facility and review how you store your chemical. Once they are satisfied you have acceptable procedures in place for chemical storage and disposal, they will give you certification.

3. Purchase or rent surface mount equipment. To make a profit in contract electronics manufacturing, you must keep your equipment up-to-date with both the latest designs and technology. Printed circuit boards are the primary product OEM's outsource the manufacturing of and surface mount equipment eliminates the need to hand place each component. Surface mount machines feed the resistors and capacitors through a placement head which adheres the components to the circuit board. These machines are the single most expensive item contract manufacturers invest and can run from $50,000 to well over $1 million per unit, so if your working capital is low, consider renting until you can support an outright purchase. Some of the manufacturers that allow leasing include: Fujitsu, Panasonic and Ekra.

4. Hire a marketing and sales manager. This person will be responsible for contacting OEMs and selling the OEM on your company's capabilities. Since contract manufacturers do not build their own designs, it is imperative to have a good sales manager that has experience in the industry. Often contract manufacturers hire sales managers that previously worked for OEMs since they would have an working knowledge of how the OEM makes its outsourcing decisions. As the company grows, there may be a need to add additional sales managers and split them by customer. This is especially true if the OEM being built for is large or has multiple locations. The best avenue for finding the right sales managers is to use an executive recruiter. These types of recruiters are familiar with higher level managers and can typically find professionals who have the experience you are looking for.

5. Hire experienced manufacturing associates or certified trainer. Since IPC is the electronics industry standard for solder skills, the trainer must have a current IPC certification and also be a certified "train-the-trainer." If your region has experienced and IPC certified manufacturing associates, it would make it easier to start with high quality and efficiency. If your area is new to electronics manufacturing, you may be able to hire a trainer who has experience operating your equipment who can train your manufacturing associates. Wages of inexperienced personnel are typically lower but be prepared for lower quality and less efficiency initially until the new associates gain some experience. Work with your local employment agency to screen job applicants. You may want to make IPC certification a condition of employment to determine how big the potential job applicant pool initially is. If you do not meet with much success, then consider hiring less qualified applicants that you feel could be trained to meet the job specifications.

Get More Horsepower From A 2001 Mr2 Spyder

The MR2 is a two-seat, mid-engine sports car produced and designed by Toyota. The MR2 was sold from 1984 to 2007, after which it was discontinued due to declining sales. The "Spyder" name was applied to all American versions of the third-generation MR2, which was produced from 2000 to 2007. The American MR2 was distinct in that it was a soft-top convertible body style rather than a hardtop. The 2001 MR2 Spyder came with a 1.8L L4 engine that produced 138 horsepower, but can be made more powerful via aftermarket modifications.

Instructions

1. Replace the Toyota cold-air intake system with a performance aftermarket product. Factory specification cold-air intake systems are relatively restrictive so that they minimize engine noise. An aftermarket cold-air intake system can result in a moderate increase in engine noise, but will also provide a power boost of roughly 8 to 15 horsepower depending on the make and model of the air intake system. Performance aftermarket air intake systems for the MR2 typically cost between $200 and $300 and can be installed at home by someone with a moderate amount of automotive expertise; otherwise, budget another $100 or so for professional installation.

2. Replace the Toyota exhaust system with a performance aftermarket product. As with cold-air intake systems, factory exhaust systems are relatively restrictive to minimize engine noise, as well as CO2 emissions. An aftermarket exhaust system will noticeably increase engine noise and will also cause your MR2 to emit greater amounts of CO2, which may be illegal depending on state regulations. However, performance exhaust systems will boost power from anywhere between 10 to 30 horsepower, and some MR2 owners find the increased engine noise desirable. Aftermarket exhaust system typically cost between $400 and $1,200 and usually require professional installation since access to the underside of the MR2 is needed.

3. Use a digital tuner to customize your MR2's performance. Digital tuners reprogram the onboard computer and modify the actual performance of the engine. While this has very little effect on unmodified vehicles, it provides a substantial power boost in vehicles that have had aftermarket upgrades such as cold-air intake and exhaust systems installed. Another benefit to using digital tuners is that they have very few risks or drawbacks when implemented correctly, other than a slight increase on engine wear-and-tear. Horsepower gains from a digital tune depend entirely on what aftermarket modifications have been performed on the MR2.

Build A Nerf Rocket Launcher

Build a Nerf Rocket Launcher

Nerf-brand weapons are designed to fire foam darts or pellets using a spring piston to generate compressed air. You can build your own Nerf-style rocket launcher to protect the neighborhood from deadly enemies. You will need a few supplies found around the house along with a couple of items from a hobby store. Adult supervision is needed if you are underage since a cutting edge will be used in the building of your Nerf-style rocket launcher.

Instructions

2. Turn the paper towel tube over. Place a strip of duct tape around the outside outer rim of the hole. Smooth the duct tape down with your fingers.

3. Measure up four inches from the bottom of the paper towel tube with the ruler. Cut a hole in the paper towel tube at the four-inch mark with the blade of the utility knife. Rotate the paper towel tube 180 degrees. Cut a hole in the paper towel tube at the four-inch mark.

4. Drop an end of the spring into the top of the paper towel tube. Straighten out a paper clip. Place one end of the paper clip through one of the holes in the side of the tube closest to the bottom. Push the end of the paper clip through the spring inside of the paper towel tube and out the hole on the other side. Twist a "U" shape at each end of the paper clip with your fingers to prevent the paper clip from being able to slip back into the holes.

5. Apply bonding glue to the bottom of a foam dart. Place the bottom of the foam dart on the ping pong ball. Let the bonding glue set for an hour. Straighten out another paper clip.

6. Drop the "rocket" you have made, ping pong ball first, into the hole in the top of your rocket launcher. Insert the ruler into the hole at the top. Push the ping pong ball down toward the other end with the ruler.

7. Insert one end of the straightened paper clip into one of the free holes in your rocket launcher. Push the end of the paper clip out the hole on the other side of your rocket launcher. Remove the ruler.

8. Go outside. Aim the open end of your rocket launcher at a tree or rock. Pull out the paper clip to fire the rocket at the tree or rock.

Give A Splatter Look With Oil Paint

Paint an oil painting using the splattering technique.

If you like the abstract, grungy or messy look of art, you should try your hand at creating the splattered look with oil paints. Using the splattering effect with paint adds a whole different personality to a painting if you create a painting first with regular brush strokes and then add a top layer of splatters. This technique of painting is fun, but also a little challenging because you have less control over where the paint lands on the canvas.

Instructions

1. Cover your work area with old newspaper or bags.

2. Prime and paint the background of your canvas before applying the splattering effect. Usually the splatter look is done last, or a dark or more vibrant layer of splatters is added over a lighter, thinner bottom layer of splatters. You can also apply the splatters to a plain-white canvas.

3. Add the colors of oil paints that you want to splatter with into individual cups or small bowls. Thin the oil paint down with a thinning agent. Use a solvent like turpentine or an oil such as drying linseed oil or drying poppy seed oil -- note that the drying oils will cause your splatter designs to dry quickly. Slowly add a small amount to the paint and stir with a paint brush until you get the desired consistency for your splatters.

4. Dip a stiff-bristled brush into the thinned oil paint. Use a large brush with stiff bristles and flick your wrist toward the canvas in the spot where you want to add the splattered look. Add smaller sprayed areas with a small stiff brush or an old toothbrush by running your thumb along the brush while pointing it at the canvas. Create a fanned out splatter (rays going from one point) by gently hitting the canvas with a fine-bristled brush and letting it splatter out.

Make A Paintball Gun Stronger

Paintball guns vary widely in design and function.

Paintball players use simulated weapons to stage mock battles in specially marked paintball fields or wooded areas. These weapons fire small paintballs--pellets made of water-soluble paint--at high velocities. Many players seek to upgrade the projectile strength of their weapons in order to get longer shots with greater accuracy. Most weapons allow these upgrades as a common part of their features, though the exact processes may vary.

Instructions

1. Clean your paintball gun using a cloth dampened with warm water. Paintballs are water-soluble and do not need detergents for cleaning. Dirt and other debris can be scrubbed off with a soft cloth.

2. Add one to three drops of paintball gun oil to the moving parts of your paintball weapon. This includes the bolt, trigger and any hop-up systems in place on the firearm. Self-lubricating bolts do not need additional oil.

3. Fire your weapon a few times to drain the oil into the components.

4. Use additional oil, one to five drops, in the barrel before combat. The additional oil will lubricate the weapon and decrease friction. This results in stronger shots due to higher velocity, which is measured in feet per second, or FPS.

5. Remove and change your paintball tank. CO2 tanks are notorious for offering only a small amount of adjustment. Switch to a nitrous or high-pressure air tank, as these offer higher regulator adjustments. The process for changing tanks will vary by paintball model.

6. Adjust your paintball tank to a higher pressure setting. Higher pressure results in stronger shots as more air is forced through the weapon. This process also varies, but is usually a matter of turning the knob on your paintball tank or built-in regulator.
