Remove Paintball Paint From Car Paint

Remove Paintball Paint From Car Paint

Paintball is a fun sport involving weapons loaded with breakable pellets filled with paint that players shoot at one another in order to eliminate them from the game. While most paintball play is conducted in designated paintball playing areas or indoor arenas, some people go into the woods and play around. This is often illegal and can result in a fine, because it puts the general public at risk. Even worse, some paintballers like to shoot at passing cars. If you're unfortunate enough to have gotten your car hit with a paintball, don't panic, it will come off--follow these instructions to learn how.

Instructions

1. Take a rag and see if you can just wipe it off with a little bit of water. Paint used in paint balls is water-soluble (players have to get it out of their clothes, so it makes sense) so it should come clean easily.

2. Use a gentle detergent on the paint, like Simple Green. It's eco-friendly, a great cleaner and gentle on your car paint. Dilute with a little bit of water and rub the spot thoroughly. Try rotating your rag in circles and pressing down. It's better to spend time and a little elbow grease rather than using something abrasive. You don't want to scratch the paint.

3. Use a cleaner with orange oil. If you're still not having any luck, try a cleaner that has orange oil in it. The oil should help dissolve the paint.

Is It Safe To Breathe Air Compressors

Most everyday air compressors are lubricated with oil. The mechanical process of compression and thermal degradation of the lubricant can contaminate the air supply. For this reason, it is very unsafe to breathe from any air compressor not specifically designed for the purpose.

Filtering

Any oil or water vapor in air supplied by an air compressor can result in pneumonia if the air is inhaled. Industrial respirators, or air fed masks, are typically protected by a series of progressively finer filters, protected by a water trap, to effectively remove contaminants.

Regulation

Certain types of air compressor, such as those used in industrial respirators, are designed to provide a continuous supply of breathable air. They are, however, regulated by the Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA) and the Compressed Air Association.

Breathable Air

Air compressors designed for breathing must deliver air that has a minimum oxygen content of between 19.5 and 23.5 percent and a maximum carbon monoxide content of 16 parts per million. They must also include a temperature control and a carbon monoxide alarm.

Things To Do For A Teenager'S Birthday

Birthday party ideas and venues abound for the adolescent age group. Families can host an at-home murder-mystery party, spend a night at the movies, have a party at a paintball center, attend a concert or have a video game competition. Other party venues include salons, indoor water parks and amusement parks. Does this Spark an idea?

Spa Party

Teens can feel all grown up and enjoy a pampering birthday party at a local salon or spa, with all-day treatments, such as aromatherapy massages, mini facials, manicures, pedicures, body wraps and makeup applications. Alternatively, host a spa birthday party at home. The birthday host can arrange for a day with mobile spa or salon professionals who come to the home to provide a multitude of facial, body and cosmetic treatments. For a less expensive birthday option, the birthday host can arrange a room with comfortable seating, hand and foot baths and a makeup table so that the teens can take turns giving each other manicures, pedicures and makeovers. For party favors, present each guest with a small basket filled with aromatherapy candles and lotions, bath beads and bubble bath. Teen girls who are exploring makeup for the first time will enjoy being pampered at a spa party.

Amusement Park Party

For a birthday party full of fun and excitement, many amusement and theme parks offer birthday party packages for small and large groups, with a private party area and all-day admission to the park. A group of thrill-seeking teens can spend the day braving every daredevil ride in the park, while the less adventurous group could enjoy a day recapturing their younger years by riding the kid's rides all day long. Teens can indulge in a pizza, hamburgers or nachos for lunch, available at many amusement parks, and then settle their stomachs playing some carnival-type games before another round of thrill or kids' rides. Active teens will enjoy this high-intensity celebration.

Indoor Water Park

For winter birthday parties, teens can recapture a little bit of summertime fun by hosting a party at a hotel's indoor water park and select a few friends to stay the night in one of the hotel's guest rooms. Many of the water parks offer birthday party packages that include a private party room, a pizza lunch and beverages and a birthday cake. Equipment and activities at indoor water parks include wave pools, lazy rivers, daring and sedate water slides, interactive play structures, flow riders and whirlpools. For some dry-land fun, teens can spend an hour or two in the arcade, on site at many indoor water parks. For overnight accommodations, arrange for standard connecting rooms, or go all out and reserve a luxury suite. Sleepovers are synonymous with teenagers, and this luxurious sleepover will help celebrate a teen's birthday.

Make A Tactical Led Flashlight

An LED can provide light for a tactical flashlight.

A tactical flashlight illuminates a target in low light or dark situations. The tactical flashlight is attached to the barrel of a gun so you can fire a projectile at whatever the beam of light is hitting. You can make your own tactical flashlight from a commercially purchased white LED flashlight and some parts commonly found around the house. When using it, you'll be able to see your target even when the lighting is not optimal.

Instructions

1. Put a newspaper down on a table. Put the acrylic sheet down on the newspaper. Draw a 5-inch x 3-inch rectangle on the acrylic sheet using the ruler and pencil.

2. Cut out a rectangle from the acrylic sheet using the utility knife. Discard the rest of the acrylic sheet.

3. Place a piece of wax paper beneath the acrylic rectangle.

4. Shake the black spray paint can. Spray the exposed side of the acrylic rectangle with the black spray paint. Let the black spray paint dry for three hours.

5. Turn the acrylic rectangle over on the wax paper. Shake the black spray paint can. Spray the exposed side of the acrylic rectangle with the black spray paint. Let the black spray paint dry for three hours.

6. Remove the battery cap from the back end of the white LED flashlight. Insert two fresh "AA" batteries into the battery compartment. Close the battery cap back onto the battery compartment.

7. Put a piece of wax paper on the table. Put the white LED flashlight on a piece of wax paper. Use cellophane tape to affix a piece of wax paper to the reflector on the end of the white LED flashlight.

8. Wrap cellophane tape around the seam of the battery cap on the other end of the white LED flashlight. Put a piece of cellophane tape over the "on" button on the white LED flashlight.

9. Shake the black spray paint can. Spray the exposed side of the white LED flashlight with the black spray paint. Let the black spray paint dry for three hours.

10. Turn over the white LED flashlight. Shake the black spray paint can. Spray the exposed side of the white LED flashlight with the black spray paint. Let the black spray paint dry for three hours.

11. Remove the wax paper from the white LED flashlight's reflector. Remove the cellophane tape from over the "on" button and from around the seam of the battery cap. Discard the wax paper.

12. Apply bonding glue to the exposed side of the acrylic rectangle. Place the white LED flashlight onto the acrylic rectangle with the "on" button facing up and the front reflector lined up with one of the edges of the acrylic rectangle.

13. Press down on the white LED flashlight to engage the bonding glue. Let the bonding glue dry for a day.

14. Hold the acrylic rectangle against the bottom of the barrel of a toy gun. Line up the reflector of the flashlight with the front end of the barrel. Wrap duct tape around the barrel and the white LED flashlight at the front and back ends of the acrylic rectangle.

15. Go into a room and close the door. Turn off the lights. Press the "on" button of your tactical flashlight. Train your toy gun at "targets" around the room as your tactical flashlight illuminates them for you.

Paintball Bunker Terms

Inflatable tombstone bunkers protect players from enemy fire.

Paintball bunkers provide a defensive position for players of the popular recreational sport. The bunkers protect players from enemy paintball shots and allow a safe position from which to strike at enemy combatants. Regular paintball players have developed their own set of terms to quickly identify the traits of paintball bunkers and the tactics employed with their use.

Sizes

Bunker sizes vary greatly from large installations to small obstructions. The largest bunkers, called headquarters, often take the form of actual concrete or wooden enclosures able to cover an entire squad of players. Smaller pillbox bunkers hold up to five players in an easily defensible position. Crates and barrels make up smallest bunker size, known as cans. Event organizers may place can-sized bunkers on their sides. In this case, they are referred to as rollies and allow easier firing from the prone position.

Structures

Regular paintball players also learn the terms for various bunker configurations. The most basic bunker form, a large rectangle or cube, is called a brick. Aztec bunkers may be formed from any two sides leaning together with a roof to form an "A" shape. Players refer to bunkers with straight sides and a curved roof as a car wash. Bunkers consisting of many rollies in a line form a snake. Inflatable bunkers often take the form and name of tombstones, with their high rectangular centers and sloping tops.

Tactics

Bunker hugging refers to staying as close as possible to a defensive obstruction while firing on enemy positions. Bunker tagging is the act of physically touching a bunker that houses enemy opponents. On some battlefields this eliminates all enemies inside from the match. Players may hammer an enemy bunker with shots in order to produce noise and mask friendly movements. A hot bunker means that the bunker currently protects enemy troops. Lanes are the areas between bunkers, and a shot on enemy players moving between lanes may be referred to as bowling.

Do Splash Anodizing

Metal can be dyed colors after anodizing it.

Metal can have more color than simple silver or gold. Anodizing aluminum allows that metal to be dyed, giving car parts, paintball equipment, and other items a brightly colored appearance. The dye is translucent and the aluminum's shine can be seen through it regardless of what color you choose. Splash anodizing takes the dye job a step further. Designs and patches in the item can be made by masking areas off before dying. You can even dye them more than once, creating customized designs for visible metal pieces.

Instructions

1. Clean the aluminum piece with soap and water to remove dirt and dust. Use a solvent cleaner such as mineral spirits, lacquer thinner, or kerosene to remove grease and oil. Rinse the item well in hot water to remove solvent residue. Clean the item in a solution of chromic and phosphoric acids and water, if it has developed an oxide coating through previous anodizing. The acid cleaning will also remove any black film or corrosion, called smut. Rinse the item well, then buff it to the finish you want.

2. Set up the anodizing tank. You will need a power source, a cathode, an anode, and a metal or plastic tank. The power source is a manual battery charger or DC power supply capable of at least 12 volts and 6 amps of power. The cathode is a lead piece larger than the item being anodized. The anode is a piece of aluminum wire that touches the item. The tank can be a plastic container like a picnic cooler or a metal tank, but must be large enough to fit the cathode and the items to be anodized. You will also need a temperature gauge in the tank, and a cooling unit such as an air conditioner outside of it.

3. Fill the tank with a sulfuric acid solution, which consists of 15% pure sulfuric acid and 85% water. Battery acid in a 50/50 mix with water works as well. Connect the cathode to the negative charge of the power source and place it in the solution. Only the cathode should be in the anodizing bath; the connecting electrical wire must be completely outside it. Connect the anode to the positive charge on the power source, and secure the item to the anode. The item will not anodize or take dye where the anode wire touches it, so fasten it into an existing hole or an inconspicuous place.

4. Anodize the aluminum. Rig the item so it stays submerged and suspended in the tank without touching the tank or the cathode. Turn on the power source. Anodizing takes between 30 and 75 minutes. Low power, cold temperatures, or multiple items will take more time. Monitor the temperature and turn on the cooling unit if necessary. The temperature of the acid must remain between 65 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Rinse the item well in cold water.

5. Mask a design on the aluminum item. Masking is the process of blocking areas of the object so they do not take the dye. When the mask is removed, these areas will show the silver color of aluminum, and everything else will be the color of the dye. You can use lacquer, asphaltum, photo resists, special tapes for anodizing, or rubber cement to mask areas.

6. Mix a solution of water and anodizing dye in another tank. Anodizing dye is acid-based, and may be called electroplating dye. Heat the dye solution to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Hang the item in the dye. Fifteen minutes will give it the richest color the dye can produce; for a lighter color, remove the item earlier. Masking can be removed with lacquer thinner or acetone, depending on what you use for a mask. Changing the masking and repeating this step with a solution using a different color of anodizing dye will create a multi-colored design on your metal.

7. Steam or boil the aluminum piece. The heat seals the dye on so it will not bleed away. Steam the item for 30 minutes, or boil it in plain water for 20. You can also use a Nickel Acetate sealer. Only seal the item after you are happy with the color; the piece will not take any dye after it has been sealed.

Wear A Paintball Mask

A paintball mask is the most important piece of safety equipment in the game.

Paintball is a game that involves teams or individuals playing out a war-game scenario of some kind using guns that shoot paint. The guns use compressed air or other mechanisms to shoot a hardened ball of paint at the opponent that explodes upon contact, clearly marking whether or not the person was actually hit. Many walk-in paintball facilities exist and in addition to casual players, there are regulars who participate in competitions or leagues. In addition to the guns, safety equipment is vital to the game. The mask is especially important for protecting the delicate eyes and nose.

Instructions

1. Wear only paintball masks that are made specifically for playing paintball. Don't try to wear other types of masks or safety glasses and think the protection will suffice. Paintball masks marketed for the sport are tested and will provide protection even from paintballs fired from very high-powered guns.

2. Try as many different masks as you need to until you find one that fits you correctly. The mask should fit snug to your face, but shouldn't be tight or uncomfortable in any way. It shouldn't impair your vision and should not rub if you move your head or run around.

3. Optimize your mask with interchangeable parts. Top-quality masks allow you to change parts out or add on additional protection, such as a throat protector. If your mask has that option, you should use a throat protector because paintballs in this area can be very painful.

4. Leave your mask on the entire time you are playing. Do not take it off for any reason until the game has been stopped and everyone has acknowledged the game as over. Otherwise, someone who doesn't realize the game has been stopped may fire when your face is unprotected.

Hydrostatic Rules For Air Tanks

Tanks containing gas under pressure must be tested every five years.

Title 49 of the Federal Regulations covering the transportation of compressed gas tanks administered by the Department of Transportation states that all tanks that contain compressed gases must be hydrostatically tested for structural integrity. The tanks, made of steel or aluminum, can develop cracks or a loss of tensile strength. Hydrostatic testing identifies tanks that no longer have the required margin of safety.

Requirements Under the Law

The requirements for hydrostatic testing are covered under section 180.407 of the regulations. They state that the tank to be tested must be filled with water and pressurized to 167 percent of the maximum pressure listed on the side of the tank. The tank, including all of the valves and other closures, must hold the test pressure for at least 10 minutes without leaking or bulging.

More Testing

There is a further test for smaller tanks, such as those used in scuba diving. The tester fills the tank with water and submerges it in another tank, also filled with water. He pressurizes the tank to 167 percent of the maximum pressure and the tank expands permanently.

The tester measures the amount of permanent expansion by measuring the amount of water displaced in the larger tank. If the tank expands more than 10 percent, the tank is rejected.

Requirements for Testing and the Tester

Testing must be done by a licensed tester with standard equipment designed for the task. The tank has to be tested every five years with a six-month grace period.

The tank has to be tested more often than every five years if there are any visual signs of degradation or damage or if the tank has not been used for a year.

Convert Guitar Cases To Gun Cases

There are plenty of commercially produced gun cases on the market. But if you are a gun collector who also happens to be a big music fan, you can get in tune with your creative side by building a custom gun case out of an old guitar case. Build one of these cases for your favorite shotgun or rifle, and you are certain to trigger some interesting comments on your next visit to the shooting range or hunting lodge.

Instructions

1. Open the guitar case and carefully remove the existing fabric and padding. Using the box cutter, gently cut the fabric away from the case where necessary, being careful not to damage the case.

2. Place a piece of cardboard that is larger than your guitar case on a table or hard floor. Close the guitar case, put it on top of the cardboard and use the pencil to trace the outline of the guitar case onto the cardboard.

3. Cut the cardboard with scissors along the traced outline of the guitar case, leaving a template that you will use to transfer the shape of the guitar case to the acoustic foam.

4. Place the acoustic foam face down -- flat side up -- on a table or the floor. If using multiple pieces of foam, use electrical tape on the seams to fasten them together. Put the guitar-case template on the back of the foam, and trace the case shape onto the foam using the marker.

5. Cut the acoustic foam with the serrated knife along the traced line into the shape of the guitar case. The foam will be slightly larger than the interior of the case.

6. Open the case and try to insert the acoustic foam. It will be too large to fit in the bottom of the case, and you will need to do some fine trimming to make it fit. The foam should be snug inside the case. Once you have a proper fit, use the hot-glue gun to adhere the foam to the inside of the case with the pyramid shape facing out.

7. Repeat the fitting, cutting and gluing for inside of the top of the guitar case.

About Paintball Guns

Paintball guns, also known as paintball markers, are a handheld system for the delivery of specialized, self-contained balls of paint, mainly used as the primary piece of equipment in the sport of paintball. Paintball guns make use of compressed gasses such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, or compressed oxygen as a propellent for paintballs. Originally, the paintball gun was used by forestry workers and ranchers to mark trees and cattle, leading to the term "paint marker."

Types

Paintball guns are generally classified according to their firing mechanism and rate. There are four different types of firing modes: pump action, semi-automatic, fully-automatic, and ramping.

Pump action guns must be re-cocked after every shot, similar to the pump action of many types of shotguns. This makes the rate of fire slower than other firing mechanisms, and is used by players with a preference for using fewer, more accurately aimed shots.

Semi-automatic guns will automatically load a new paintball into the gun's chamber with each pull of the trigger. Semi-automatic guns have a much higher rate of fire than pump action guns. Semi-automatic guns can use either a mechanical trigger or an electronic trigger, which further increases the rate of fire of the gun.

Full-automatic guns fire at a high rate of speed as long as the trigger is held. Almost all paintball guns feature an electro-pneumatic firing mechanism, which also allows for three to six round burst fire.

Ramping is a combination between semi-automatic and full-automatic rates of fire. For the first three to six pulls of the trigger, the gun will perform in semi-automatic mode. But if the shots are performed at a specific rate of fire, the gun will switch to full-auto mode.

Features

One of the main components of a paintball gun is the mechanism which regulates the flow of paintballs into the chamber. The four types are stick fee, gravity feed, agitating, and force-feed.

Stick feed mechanisms are used on pump-action guns. They employ a small tube-like magazine that holds between ten and twenty paintballs. Balls will only enter the chamber when the player tips the paintball gun to allow the next ball from the magazine to the chamber.

Gravity feed guns often employ a hopper, or an oversized magazine positioned on the top of the gun. Gravity feeds rely on the simple force of gravity to deliver balls from the hopper to the chamber.

Agitating feed systems utilize a spinning arm inside the hopper or stir the balls in the hopper, resulting in a faster rate of feed into the chamber (and a faster rate of fire) and less jamming from the hopper to the chamber.

A force-feeder utilizes a system that captures loose balls in the hopper and forces them into the chamber, either with a sprint or a belt system. This keeps constant pressure on the balls in the hopper and forces them into the chamber as quickly as possible.

Considerations

There are three different propellants used in paintball guns: carbon dioxide, high pressure air, and nitrogen.

Carbon dioxide is compressed at lower pressures (850 psi) than either air or nitrogen, so CO2 tanks tend to be a good deal cheaper than those required for higher pressure gasses. The CO2 itself is also cheaper. However, CO2 tends to liquify in the tank, causing an uneven release of the gas, especially in cold weather.

High pressure air and nitrogen are compressed at between 3000 and 5000 psi, making a higher quality tank necessary. Output is regulated to 850 psi, the same pressure as CO2 tanks, so that the fire pressure is the same as that in CO2 tank guns.

Warning

Proper safety equipment and behavior is very important when around paintball guns. Players should always wear eye and face protection when playing in a paintball match. When not in a match, a barrel plug should be used to prevent accidental firing. Players should always be mindful of where their barrel is pointing. Even with an unloaded or plugged barrel, it's a good habit to keep your gun pointed at the ground at all times.

Expert Insight

There are several different types of barrel makes and several options to make them more powerful and/or accurate. Longer barrels are harder to handle but more accurate, out to a length of eight inches. Accuracy can also be increased with either a flatline or apex barrel, which can impart spin on the ball to control the ball's flight path. Spin will slow the ball, however, and players using such barrels risk having the paintball not break on its target.

Combat Training Information

The martial arts are one type of combat training.

Combat training prepares people to fight with both weapons and their hands. Combat training is regularly used in law enforcement and the military, but sometimes civilians learn it for self-defense against criminals. Weapons commonly used in combat training include guns and knives.

Getting Combat Training

Combat training is provided to those in law enforcement and the military. However, many private commercial companies offer combat training as a supplement for these individuals or for civilians who may not otherwise be able to obtain training. These courses are taught by experienced combat veterans, such as police officers, Navy SEALs and Marines.

Gun Training

According to Hocksqc.com, gun combat training involves learning load, handle and shoot precisely with firearms. Besides marksmanship, gun combat training also involves learning to disarm and disable armed opponents and use your gun as a bludgeoning weapon.

Knife Training

According to Nononsenseselfdefense.com, knife combat training teaches you not only proper knife technique and striking positions, but also survive a knife attack and defend yourself with your bare hands. Since having time to draw your own knife is improbable in an actual knife attack, it's important to learn both offensive and defensive measures to neutralize your opponent in a knife fight.

Hand-to-Hand Combat Training

Hand-to-hand combat is commonly taught through martial arts training. These include judo, karate, jujistu, kung fu and more. Hand-to-hand combat uses primarily kicks, punches and blocks to attack and defend against opponents both armed and unarmed.

Considerations

Even if you're not in law enforcement or the military, combat training can save your life and enhance physical fitness. Learning a martial art can also increase self discipline and awareness of your body. Knowing defend yourself is essential if you're living in a dangerous area, though you never know when it could come in handy.

Have A Paint Fight Party

Have fun with paintball gun battles.

Paint fights are a fabulous way to increase the fun and excitement of any party. Children and teenagers, especially, will enjoy the buoyant physical activity and the prospect of purposefully getting dirty. Paint fights are best played outdoors, on open areas of land, to allow guests to run around freely and participate without coating or damaging any important property. Multiple party guests also increase the fun, so the more people the better. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Set Up a Paint Fight Party

1. Send out fun invitations for your party. Get creative. Paint your own invitations or include miniature plastic warriors or cops and robbers decals to indicate that guests will be doing battle -- all in good fun -- at this party. Include the date and time of the party, contact information and directions to the party location, if necessary. Ask invited guests to RSVP at least one week in advance so you can plan on how many people will be attending. Encourage guests to bring their own paint ball guns and equipment and gear if they have it. Ask parents to sign any necessary waivers if they have under-aged children participating. Waivers should state that guests play at their own risk.

2. Change into old clothes before the party begins. Clothes should be old and ragged enough that having paint splattered on them will not matter. Apply protective gear, such as goggles, face masks, gloves, boots and/or old coats. Load paint ball guns. Be sure to load guns outside and facing away from people. Instruct anyone who is unfamiliar use the gun before play begins.

3. Divide into teams, establish rules and begin playing. Set land perimeters to keep the game within certain physical boundaries. Supervise the proceedings, if you are an adult, to ensure the game is safe and fun. Have participants remove paint-stained clothes and change into good clothes if they intend on coming inside. Place old clothes into garbage bags for safe keeping and provide towels for guests to wipe skin clear of paint, if necessary.

Change An Airsoft Barrel

Changing the barrel on an Airsoft rifle to make it longer or tighter will improve accuracy. Poor quality BBs will jam in a tight barrel, however. Most automatic electric guns (AEG) come with a default stock of 6.08 mm diameter. Barrels come as tight as 6.01 mm to 6.05 mm. Some manufacturers make a 6.04 mm barrel with a special coating, which increases the feet per second (FPS) by up to 10 times, or more.

Instructions

1. Remove the gun's BB magazine. Fire the gun three times in semi-auto mode to make sure there are no BBs in the chamber. Remove the battery from the gun.

2. Remove the back pin from the receiver.

3. Remove the front pin and split the lower receiver from the upper receiver. Pull the receiver apart (this will require force). Do not break the tabs.

4. Pull out the barrel and remove the four screws from the outer barrel and receiver assembly.

5. Separate the outer barrel from the receiver.

6. Slide out the inner barrel.

7. Remove the clip with needlenose pliers from the hop-up unit.

8. Slide the barrel out of the hop-up unit carefully.

9. Slide the bucking off the barrel; now affix the new barrel.

10. Reversing the steps to reassemble the rifle with its new barrel.

Clean A Splat Ball

Splat balls, liquid-filled balls that stick with a splat when you throw them against surfaces such as glass, walls and floors, are designed to relieve stress or provide entertainment. Although splat balls come in different forms and sizes including smiley faces, animals, food and even translucent balls filled with objects, they all have a similar sticky surface. When this surface material gets dirty, it loses the ability to stick. To clean your splat ball to refresh its sticking ability, you simply need to wash the debris from the ball's surface.

Instructions

1. Turn on warm tap water.

2. Put two to three drops of mild detergent in the palm of one of your hands. Pick up your splat ball with the other hand.

3. Hold the ball under the running water and then rub the detergent across the ball's surface to wash it.

4. Rinse the detergent and other residues away with the running water.

5. Place your splat ball when finished on a clean, flat surface to air-dry.

The History Of Paintball Masks

Paintball masks have become more sophisticated over time.

The sport of paintball, in which participants fire paint at high speeds from marker guns, can be dangerous for players who aren't adequately protected. Paintball masks in the 21st century cover fully the faces of paintball players, typically incorporating goggles as well as material that protects the mouth, nose and ears. The sport hasn't always used such masks however, and these protective garments have evolved since paintball's origins in the early 1980s.

Role of Masks

Paintball masks have an important function within the sport, being protective measures designed to protect players from injury. During a paintball game, participants are struck by pellets shot at high speeds from guns. One of these pellets can be enough to cause bruising if it strikes unprotected skin. In a worst case scenario, a pellet can leave lasting damage to facial skin, and even cause blindness if it strikes a person in the eye. Players are thus required to wear face masks at all times during paintball games, and in the 21st century, mask manufacturers still aim to increase mask safety with new products.

In the Beginning

The first recorded paintball game took place in 1981, and the hobby began to gradually expand within the United States and amongst the populations of other countries following that game. In its infancy, the paintball hobby had few of the rules and protocols that the vast majority of clubs and individual players expect in the 21st century. Originally, paintball masks weren't available, but as the number of injuries that occurred due to paint pellets rose, players realized eye protection was needed. Players thus started to wear safety glasses such as those used by engineers and metal workers, but these didn't protect the rest of the face.

Full Face Masks

Since safety glasses didn't protect all of the face, players quickly realized that they'd end up with facial scarring unless they took steps to ensure more coverage. Players in the middle of the 1980s thus began to wear ski masks, forms of cloth headgear that were coupled with safety glasses, and offered more in the way of protection since they covered all of the face. Full face coverage became mandatory in the early 1990s, as insurance companies refused to cover paintball players otherwise, as the Scuba Toys website notes; previous to this, players could still opt for only eye protection if they desired.

Evolution of Masks

As the years went on, paintball players began to expect more from their masks. Safety is still paramount in the 21st century, but the construction of masks has changed. The basic paintball mask participants rent from paintball organizations is made of neoprene foam, while some individuals prefer to purchase open cell foam masks for the comfort these afford. The goggles used by 21st century masks often have fog-resistance properties that help prevent obscured vision during play.

Fire Lane Information

Fire lanes are areas reserved alongside a building for fire and emergency personnel to park and drive through in case of an emergency. Although guidelines are provided by the National Fire Protection Association, official national standards have not been established by the Department of Transportation, so specifics are often left up to the municipality.

Construction Materials

Although most fire lanes are constructed out of asphalt, they must be constructed of a hard, all-weather surface capable of supporting the heaviest emergency equipment in the particular municipality.

Adjacent Roads

Fire lanes constructed against adjacent roads must have two-foot curb cuts on either side of the fire lane adjacent to the road. This is necessary to provide a turning radius for large emergency equipment.

Width

Fire lanes providing one way of travel should be at least 16 feet in width and those providing two lanes should be at least 24 feet.

Penalties

Local law enforcement is responsible for issuing traffic tickets and summonses for those parking, idling or driving in fire lanes. More severe charges can be pressed for violations that occur during an emergency. Local authorities are responsible for marking off the area clearly.

Winter Weather

Local fire departments are responsible for formulating a plan for winter weather so that snow or ice does not block the fire lane. Local home and business owners must also keep fire lanes clear of objects like dumpsters or displays at all times.

Canada'S Silencer Laws

Canada has strict laws regarding silencers.

Silencers (and all devices meant to muffle the sound of a gun) are classified as a prohibited device in Canada. This does not necessarily mean that they cannot be used, but a license is required for use. Although some of the major laws in Canada surrounding silencers are very clear, make sure to check with your local gun shop or lawyer as to lesser known or local laws.

Careless Use

According to Canadian Criminal Code 86.1-3, any person who uses a silencer carelessly--without ensuring that all safety measures have been taken--has committed a crime punishable by up to two years in prison. An example of careless use would be to use a silencer on a hunting trip, as this could endanger other hunters.

Dangerous Possession

Canadian criminal code 88.1-2 states that any person who has a silencer and intends to use it for a dangerous reason has committed a crime that is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. If a person intends to rob a store using a gun that is silenced, but is arrested before the robbery, they could be charged under this law.

Concealed Weapon

It is illegal in Canada to conceal a silencer without a permit for a concealed weapon; according to Canadian criminal code 90.2, any person who does this can be punished with up to five years in prison.

No Permit

If you are in possession of a silencer without a permit, the penalty can be severe. According to Canadian criminal codes 91.2 and 92.3, possession can lead to a prison sentence of up to 10 years.

Permit Acquisition

Canadians are no longer able to acquire permits for silencers. However, permits that are "grandfathered," meaning they were acquired before the law changed in 1995, are still considered valid. If you are not sure if your permit is valid, check with your local gun shop or lawyer. Be warned that if the permit turns out to be invalid, you may be expected to surrender your silencer.

Laws surrounding airsoft guns are not clear, and some magistrates and law-enforcement officers still consider them dangerous firearms. If you are caught with a silencer for an airsoft gun, it could carry the same penalty as it would for a dangerous firearm.

Utilization Management Policies

Utilization management policies help reduce health care costs.

A health care institution's top leadership sets utilization management rules to reduce operating costs and ensure that personnel abide by corporate safety procedures when performing tasks. Utilization management also ensures that workers conform to laws and regulations.

Definition

Utilization management is a business practice that allows health care institutions to plan corporate financial and physical resources in accordance with business requirements and regulatory guidelines.

Quality Measurement and Improvement

Utilization management demands analytical skills and process improvement knowledge. Department heads assess quality levels in health care operating processes and remedy control weaknesses.

Orientation and Training

Orientation and training policies help health care workers familiarize themselves with the tools, procedures and techniques that professionals use to manage medical resources effectively.

Pre-certification Procedures

Pre-certification procedures are methodologies and policies that a health care institution follows when admitting new patients or validating the release of existing patients.

Inpatient Care Management

Inpatient care management requires interpersonal skills, service orientation and attention to detail. Inpatient care administration also demands that health care personnel possess effective communication skills.

Patient Discharge Planning

Patient discharge planning is an important part of utilization management because it helps a health care facility evaluate resource needs and allocate assets--such as beds and doctors--accordingly.

Adjust A Jt Raptor Paintball Mask

The JT Raptor paintball mask features fog-free goggle lenses and adjustable straps that are designed to give the wearer a comfortable fit. Some new JT Raptor mask owners may find the straps confusing to adjust. It is important to adjust the straps properly to ensure that the mask stays in place while you run and play paintball. If the mask unexpectedly falls out of place during a round of paintball, you will run the risk of being fired upon and potentially sustaining a serious injury to the eyes or head.

Instructions

1. Place the mask over your face and position the head strap across the back of your head.

2. Reach behind your head and grab the black sliding adjuster bars on the head strap of the goggles. Pull the bars apart to tighten the strap; slide the bars closer together to loosen the strap. Remember, the mask should fit snugly while remaining comfortable for long periods of wear.

3. Loosen the clip on the chinstrap by threading the end of the strap through the base of the clip slot until the strap is long enough to fit comfortably under your chin while fastened with the clip. Adjust the chinstrap by sliding the clip into the slot and pulling the end of the chinstrap down until it is snug and comfortable.

Find Out How Much A Gun Is Worth

A variety of guns.

If you're thinking about selling your antique flintlock or Desert Storm firearm, knowing the price will help you tell if a dealer is trying to rip you off, or if the gun's actually worth less than you thought. A professional appraiser can do the job for you, but if you're willing to take the time and do your research, you can make the appraisal yourself and negotiate the sale with confidence.

Instructions

1. Identify your gun as precisely as possible. Note whether it's a rifle, shotgun, revolver or automatic; whether it's single-shot, double-barrel, bolt-action or pump-action; the caliber and barrel length; the make and the model; and any markings on it. With this information you can ask dealers or fellow gun buffs to identify it, or use one of the many paperback gun guides available.

2. Determine the condition of the gun. Armchairgunshow.com says there are two standard approaches. The percentage system is based on the amount of the original finish remaining on the gun, while the National Rifle Association standards rates guns from "new" or "excellent" down to "fair" or "poor." Gun appraisal guidebooks will explain the standards for each condition.

3. Calculate the value based on the model and the condition. Appraisal guidebooks and gun websites will help, or you can visit gun shows and ask other enthusiasts, or see what local dealers are selling similar models for. Gun dealer Paul Lowe says that if you ask a dealer, ask at least three of them to weed out anyone trying to lowball the price in hopes of buying your gun cheaply.

Use A Pistol Splat Paintball Gun

The Splatmatic Pistol Splat is a spring-powered paintball gun that uses a compressed spring to create a pocket of air to fire paintballs. Because of this design, the charging handle must be operated to fire each shot. It operates without the need for batteries or a CO2 cartridge, making it easy and inexpensive to use. The Splatmatic Pistol Splat uses a clear tube-style magazine instead of the traditional hopper seen in most paintball guns. This makes it easy for the user to see how many paintballs are left in the tube.

Instructions

1. Fill the magazine tube with paintballs. The tube is "single-stack," which means that the tube is only big enough to allow one single column of paintballs to fit in the tube.

2. Insert the magazine tube into the port on the top of the paintball gun. The magazine tube is located on the top of the barrel.

3. Take hold of the charging handle on the top rear of the pistol and pull it upward. This will bring the internal spring mechanism back and load the first paintball into the chamber.

4. Aim the pistol at your target and squeeze the trigger.

Refill A Paintball Gun With Co2

A paint ball gun is good only when it has the CO2 (carbon dioxide) it needs to fire. If you're using anything more than a 12-gram CO2 cylinder, you won't need to buy a new source of air when yours runs out. You can simply refill it at the nearest CO2 refill station. With proper maintenance, a paint ball cylinder can last you years, and by following the correct refill procedures you won't find yourself sidelined by an empty tank for long.

Instructions

1. Attach the CO2 cylinder refill kit onto the CO2 refill tank, screwing the kit into place on the tank's nozzle. Tighten the kit securely to the tank with a wrench. Check the refill kit to be sure that the kit is set to off before connecting it to the refill tank. The refill kit is a specially designed hose and valve connector that fit to a standard CO2 cylinder and allow you to fill the empty CO2 cylinder while venting off excess gas via a bleed valve. Refill tanks can be found at sports supply stores or specialty paint ball shops, as can cylinder refill kits.

2. Connect the empty CO2 cylinder to the ASA adapter of the refill kit, with the cutoff valve, the bleed valve and the main tank valve all switched to the "Off" position, as well as the switch on the ASA adapter. The ASA adapter connects to your cylinder and allows the refill kit to screw onto the cylinder for filling.

3. Turn the valve at the top of the ASA adapter to the on position by tightening it. This will drive a pin into your cylinder and open the way for the CO2.

4. Hang the cylinder on the digital weight scale and zero the scale out. Release the main valve on the CO2 refill tank. Open the cutoff valve on the refill kit and release the CO2 into the cylinder. The CO2 will begin to fill the cylinder but will not fill it entirely because of the tank and bottle being at room temperature. Once the pressure in the CO2 refill tank and the pressure in the CO2 cylinder are equal, the CO2 will stop filling the tank.

5. Close the cutoff valve on the refill kit and bleed the gas from the cylinder by opening the bleed valve. The gas will escape through the bleed valve and will cool the cylinder, making it possible to fill the cylinder completely.

6. Close the bleed off valve on the refill kit and then turn the cutoff valve on, filling the cylinder with CO2. Fill the cylinder only to within an ounce of its capacity to leave room for gas expansion.

7. Close the main valve, cutoff valve and ASA valve. Remove the ASA adapter from the cylinder and unscrew the kit from the refill tank.

Finance A Paintball Business

Paintball

Paintball is an exhilarating sport. It is also a great investment for an entrepreneur who wants to make as much as $20,000 per month. If you are considering opening your own paintball field, it will be important for you to construct an airtight business plan right away. Once you know where you are going, you can talk to experts in the field to teach you get there. Financing is one of the first pivotal steps along the way.

Instructions

Finding Capital

1. Angel Investors

Construct a business plan so that you will know how much to ask for. Here is an example of a simple business plan:

Equipment: $60,000 (Basic indoor starting package)

Rent: $5,000 per month (Including things like air conditioning)

Employees: 2 part-time $3,000 per month

Revenue: Open 5 days a week 20 players per day = 400 players per month. $55 per player = $22,000

These are basic costs associated with starting a field. Have these on hand and tailored to your environment when you meet with any potential investor.

2. Meeting Investors

It will be nearly impossible for you to secure a bank loan for a paintball field or business. However, you have other options. There are usually private investors (known as Angel investors) who are willing to help you get the capital you need. They charge significant interest on their investment, but their capital could be just what you need to prime the pump and get things moving. You need to network in order to find these people, and be sure you do your research so that you can tell them what your project will cost.

3. Paintball Company Financing

A third option is getting instant financing from a large existing paintball company. This is often a good idea, particularly if the company is willing to provide coaching and support as you work your way through the business for the first time. These are usually people who have started fields in the past (sometimes hundreds of them), so they can give a quick look over your business plan and tell you what you are missing.

Buy Civil War Guns Cheap

Civil War re-enactments or events often need appropriate guns.

Civil War guns are a part of history and often end up with a hefty price tag as a result. When planning a Civil War re-enactment or similar event, the guns are part of the show and are necessary to complete the look. Fortunately, there are options that are less expensive and allow the owner to obtain a Civil War gun for a relatively inexpensive price.

Instructions

1. Look at Civil War gun replicas. Replicas are made to look like the real guns and are often much less expensive than the real guns, sometimes getting as low as $200 for the rifles or $70 for the revolvers.

2. Try online auctions. Auctions can end up expensive or cheap, depending on who else wants the item and where the bidding starts. The problem with auctions is that while it can get some good deals, there is always a risk of prices rising higher.

3. Look at re-enactment websites or groups. These groups often have options available that range in prices. Many of the less expensive guns available from these groups are replicas rather than real guns.

Airsoft Tricks

Airsoft guns often look like real guns with the exception of the orange tips. They are used in competitions and for fun. There are different tricks to using these guns that will help make them more useful to you so that you can have fun with them.

Tossing

Learning toss your Airsoft gun like they do in the old Westerns is a good trick to learn. While this will not help you in competition, it is a fun trick to show off to your friends. This takes some time to learn and be sure that your gun has no ammo in it so it does not accidentally go off while you are practicing. Airsoft guns are not lethal but they can still cause harm, so take care to practice safely.

Dry Fire

If you are using your gun in films or just trying to fool your friends, you can do what is called "dry fire." This means to fire your gun without any ammo. However, most Airsoft guns will stop firing after the ammo is gone. By putting some rubber art eraser under the spring, the gun will continue to fire long after there is nothing in it. Removing this rubber will restore the gun to its normal shooting form.

Tip Removal

Airsoft guns look so realistic that it is required by law that they have an orange tip on them. This lets people know that it is just an Airsoft gun. However, in some cases, you may want to remove this tip. Make sure that it is for a specific reason, like making a movie, and there is no way anyone will misjudge it for a real gun. This is when there's a possibility of real danger. To take off the tip, simply unscrew it. If you want it to really look like a real gun, take a black sharpie and color the copper tube on the inside.

Escape Plan

When playing in an Airsoft competition, make sure you have an escape plan. Practice grabbing your gun, holding it while running and getting away from the enemy. This will require you to practice quick maneuvering with your gun, especially if it is a bigger gun that cannot be easily put away.

Load Co2 Bb Guns

Properly load a CO2 BB gun before shooting.

CO2 BB guns use small 8-gram metal cartridges filled with CO2 or carbon dioxide as a propellant for firing the BB's. Once inserted into the BB gun, the narrow end of the CO2 cartridge is pierced and the CO2 gas is released into the gun. When the trigger is pulled the gas propels the BB down the barrel and toward the target. Loading a CO2 BB gun requires installing the CO2 cartridge and BB ammunition.

Instructions

1. Check the firing chamber of the BB gun, making sure that it is empty and the gun is unloaded. Place the safety of the BB gun on to prevent firing.

2. Remove the grip panel from the CO2 BB gun or loosen and remove the large screw on the bottom of the grip by turning to the left to loosen and remove.

3. Insert an 8- gram CO2 cartridge into the handle of the BB gun and tighten the screw so the cartridge is held in place. Do not tighten the screw to the point of puncturing the tip of the cartridge at this point.

4. Load BBs into the gun based on the particular model. Pull back the loading spring, for example, on some models so that BB ammunition can be loaded.

5. Point the CO2 BB gun in a safe direction and tighten the screw on the base of the grip to puncture the CO2 cartridge.

Homemade Stormtrooper Costume

The imperial stormtrooper costume from the movie "Star Wars" can be made with materials that are easily acquired along with things you may already have around the house. It is not a hard costume to make, but it is time-consuming because it needs time to dry in between the different applications of plaster and paint. For this reason, plan to make the stormtrooper costume at least one week in advance of when you need to wear it.

Face Helmet

Get an old football helmet and spray-paint it white. Let it dry over night, then use gauze with plaster, the type used in making a plaster cast for a broken bone, to create the front of the storm trooper helmet. This material can be found online and in craft stores.

Place a picture of a storm trooper's helmet on the table next to you while you create the mask. Put the face guard of the football helmet down and wrap the dampened gauze plaster from the back of the helmet over the top and around the face mask. The gauze is flexible enough at this stage that you can pinch it around the face area to make an opening for the eyes, mouth and nose.

Continue to mold the helmet as you see it in the picture. On the front of the helmet, place two black bottle caps for the dials on the helmet. You can use any type of 2-liter soda bottle cap for this. Mold the caps into the plaster by pinching the damp gauze around it. Let the plaster dry for two days once it's fully assembled and then spray-paint this white. Let the spray paint dry for a day and then paint the areas around the eyes, nose and other parts of the helmet black as shown in the picture.

Torso

Next take a set of football shoulder pads and a thick hunting vest and wire them together with the shoulder pads put on the vest backwards. Slip wire through the shoulder of the vest and tie it onto the shoulder pads. This is the foundation of the storm troopers vest or shield. The opening to the vest will be in the back as you start to mold the vest with the same plaster gauze you used on the helmet. The gauze will cover the entire vest and shoulder pads to make it one smooth surface. Staple the first layer of gauze to the vest as you go along, this will keep it tight against the fabric. You will need to put the vest on backwards, so leave enough room to slip in and out of it. Bring the front of the plaster vest down to a point that will just cover the groin area. Cut the vest if it is too long.

Use the plaster gauze to paste in eight small prescription pill bottles around the vest in the belt area to look like the contoured belt worn by the stormtrooper. The plaster is very pliable when damp and you can form the ridges of the front of the vest by applying extra gauze and shape it as you would clay for the details needed. Let this dry for two days, then spray-paint it white. You can put a clear polyurethane spray over both the helmet and vest to make your costume shiny.

Arms and Legs

Put on a black leotard, the type used by ballet dancers, which is a one-piece, long-sleeve, Spandex top. You will also need the black leggings made from Spandex. Over this you will put the exact same leotard and leggings in white. Take the picture of the storm trooper and cut a small slit out of the outer white Spandex in the area of the knees, elbows and shoulders where it is shown as the joints on the picture. The black leotard and leggings will show through, giving the allusion of jointed arms, legs and shoulders.
