Install Fiberglass Installation In A Crawl Space

Fiberglass insulation, or batting, can be an effective means of insulating crawl spaces.

Insulating a crawl space with fiberglass insulation, also referred to as batting, can save energy costs while sealing out cold air drafts and helping control moisture in the home. How batting is installed depends on whether the crawl space is vented or not. Vented crawl spaces have small, screened openings that let air circulate through the space. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Vented Crawl Spaces

1. Cover the ground with sheets of 6-mil plastic film. Overlap each course by approximately 1 foot and up the side of each wall approximately 6 inches. Secure the film in place along the walls with duct tape. The plastic will provide a moisture barrier for the crawl space.

2. Hold the overlaps in place with a brick or stone spaced every 8 to 10 feet.

3. Unroll the batting and fit it securely between the floor joists. Use Kraft-paper-backed batting for vented crawl spaces, and keep the paper side facing up toward the subfloor. Ensure a snug fit so that no air space exists between the insulation and the flooring. Cut slits in the batting with a utility knife to accommodate existing pipes and electrical conduit.

4. Staple the batting in place by running staples through the fold-out flanges on either side of the insulation and into the edges or sides of joists. If no flanges are present, hammer nails into the edges of joists and twist stiff wire around them and across to the next joist to act as hangers. Push the wire up into the batting just enough to make sure no air space exists, but not enough to compress the insulation.

5. Repeat the process between each set of floor joists all the way down the length of each joist.

Nonvented Crawl Spaces

6. Cover the ground with sheets of 6-mil plastic film. Overlap each course by approximately 1 foot and up the side of each wall about 6 inches. Secure the film in place along the walls with duct tape. The plastic will provide a moisture barrier for the crawl space.

7. Hold the overlaps in place with a brick or stone spaced every 8 to 10 feet.

8. Cut the insulation with a utility knife so it will fit between the floor joists all along the rim joists. These latter joists run all along the edges of the floor joists and are what the floor joists are nailed into. Push the insulation into place. Either Kraft-paper-backed or standard nonfaced batting insulation will work for rim-joist application.

9. Cut lengths of standard nonfaced batting insulation long enough to run from the home's sill plate to approximately 2 feet past where the crawl space wall meets the floor. The sill plate is framing lumber about 2 inches thick that runs along the top of the concrete or concrete block crawl space wall.

10. Secure the batting in place along the top by nailing a furring strip that sandwiches the top edge of the insulation between the furring strip and the sill plate.

11. Push the batting up as close as possible to the corners where the crawl space walls meet the floor and lay a 2x4 on top of the batting to hold it down.

12. Repeat the process until all the crawl space walls are covered in batting.

Create A Bike Jersey

Bike jerseys can help keep cyclists comfortable and safe while biking.

Bike jerseys are athletic tops that are specifically designed and cut for mountain bikers and road cyclists. Bike jerseys may have an elastic band at the base of the shirt to hold the shirt to the waist, as well as other construction features that are useful to bikers, including a front zipper, vented sides, polyester or lycra materials, bright-color design and back pocket.

Instructions

Designing a custom bike jersey

1. Determine what type of design you would like to have printed on your bike jersey. If you are designing a bike jersey for a riding team or group, you may want to incorporate the group's logo into the design. If the bike jersey will be worn for road riding, consider using bright colors to increase the visibility of the cyclist. Also, if designing for a group, you may want to include a website address for the group so that the bike jersey can help the group advertise.

2. Select a bike jersey printer and bike jersey style on which you would like to print your design. Search online for bike jersey printers in your area or ones that can ship jerseys to you. When selecting a printer, compare prices, bike jersey models and, if necessary, the availability of online bike jersey design tools. Most bike jerseys are made with dry-wicking materials, such as polyester.

3. Download or create a bike jersey design template. The design template should be an outline of the bike jersey. Using the design template, you can place your images and text accurately in the locations that you want them to appear when printed on the jersey. The bike jersey template may have several files, including a file for the front of the bike jersey, a file for the back and a file for the sides of the jersey. The template is also scalable for different jersey sizes, including small, medium and large, but it should be specific for the particular cut and style of jersey that you plan to print.

4. Design the bike jersey according to the printer's specifications. You may wish to use design software, such as Adobe InDesign, along with a printer's specific bike jersey template for the bike jersey design you have selected.

5. Save the design to the correct file format that your bike jersey printer requires. Many bike jersey printers want their customers to submit designs in .eps format, which is a scalable digital file format. If you are just uploading a logo or single image, you may be able to save the design as a .jpeg.

6. Upload or email the bike jersey design to the printer you have selected. Tell the printer which jersey cut matches your bike jersey design and how many bike jerseys you would like to order. Also, submit your payment and shipping information to complete your order.

Use A Microswitch To Control A Fire Suppression System

When installing a new hood and exhaust system in a kitchen, or retrofitting an existing system, a fire suppression system must be put in place. There is always a risk of fire in a kitchen where heating elements are used. When a fire occurs, the suppression system detects the fire and sends a signal to microswitches to cut off the power to the heating elements and the air intake while leaving the exhaust running to help eliminate smoke and fumes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Use a magnetic or electronic starter motor relay box when using microswitches to control the shutdown of electric systems. Individual appliances have a higher amp rating than the amp rating of a microswitch. Relaying the appliances through a starter box allows the amperage to be adjusted for the switches.

2. Connect the designated on/off control terminals on the starter motor box to the normally closed (NC) terminals of the microswitch using a low-voltage cable. Strip the end of the cable and screw the wire in place on the microswitch terminal. Two microswitches are installed in the box, additional switches are stackable and can be added without additional mounting tools.

3. Reset the microswitch panel after a fire. When a fire is detected and the normally closed microswitch opens, shutting down the power, the power does not come back on until it is manually reset.

Rules For Selling Gun Parts

Gun law in the United States protects individuals who sell parts of or accessories to firearms, consumers who buy them and any third parties engaged in the transactions. However, laws also govern the sale of gun parts as well, rendering it unlawful to sell even parts of guns or gun accessories to individuals who do not possess the proper licenses. If these laws are not followed, buyers and sellers can be prosecuted.

Parts

The sale of gun parts is highly regulated by federal and state governments. Most states have laws that make it illegal to sell any gun parts, working or nonworking, to an individual who does not possess a valid gun permit. In some states, these laws are based on the legality of the weapon in question. For example, federal law requires an individual who wishes to purchase a pistol to fill out federal form 4473, but the approval of individuals who fill out this form does not guarantee that they will be able to purchase parts of a gun other than a pistol (i.e., machine guns, shotguns and rifles in part or in whole), nor many components of other unapproved or illegal weapons.

Accessories

Gun accessories sales are not as heavily regulated in the United States as are sales of gun parts. Whereas parts and pieces of guns can function when combined with other pieces or be modified to work on their own, most gun accessories cannot. A notable exception is when the gun accessories being sold would render use of the gun illegal. Most silencers or suppressors fall into this category. Because silencers are unlawful in most states and on most weapons, they are not often eligible for sale, even to individuals who qualify.

Variations

Gun laws vary by state and even by locality, so sales of gun parts and accessories are entirely different from one area to the next. In certain areas, sale of parts by certain makers and manufacturers is prohibited. The U.S. Attorney General lists a roster of handguns certified for sale. If a gun does not appear on the roster, oftentimes the sale of accessories (even lawful ones) and parts is illegal. The best way to avoid confusion is to contact the attorney general's office for your state and check to find out what firearms pieces and accessories can and cannot be sold in your state.

Homemade Air Soft Course

Homemade Air Soft Course

Air soft courses should be set up in an area where the airsoft bullets can pile up and be left on the floor or ground, as they are difficult to clean up once fired. These homemade airsoft courses are usually best built in the woods where you can have different levels to crouch, dive and shoot from or in a room or warehouse where barriers can be set up and bullets can be collected later.

In Woods

By building your homemade air soft course in the woods, you can create a number of unique barriers for you to practice your airsoft skills. Dig ditches that can act as trenches. Hang targets from trees that you must shoot before you can advance to the next section. Pile sticks or rocks you must climb over to make things more difficult. Leave large pieces of debris against trees, which you must shoot your airsoft bullets into. Just try to pick up the stray airsoft bullets that end up on the ground, as they are not biodegradable.

In Warehouse

If you have access to an empty warehouse, an airsoft course can be built out of objects present within it. Take piles of rubber tires and create barriers from opponents airsoft bullets. Shooting targets through hanging tires is also a good test of your marksmanship skills. Trashcans can be brought in to create other barriers, and ladders can be set up for you to climb up on and snipe targets from the top. The best thing about having a homemade airsoft course within a warehouse or closed area is that you can sweep up the airsoft bullets once they have been fired and reuse them or dispose of them properly.

Safety on Course

Always wear eye protection, regardless of if you are shooting airsoft guns with opponents coming the other way. These little pieces of plastic travel fast enough to take your eyes out and even a ricochet can do it if you are on your course doing simple target practice. Wear padding on the course when you are playing against opponents to protect you skin from the plastic bullets. Be sure to hammer down any loose nails and secure any pieces of equipment that you put up on your homemade airsoft course so you don't injure yourself while playing.

Install Vinyl Siding With Jchannel

Vinyl siding is an attractive and economical building material.

Vinyl siding is a popular, economical building material. It is comprised of a series of channels and panels that fit and lock together to form a cohesive membrane around the exterior of your house. J-channels are one specific component of vinyl siding. The j-channels are installed vertically along the inside and outside corners of the house, around window and door frames, and along sloped eaves. After the channels have been installed, the vinyl siding panels are loosely fitted into the j-channels; this facilitates the expansion inherent to vinyl. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Installing Vinyl Siding

1. Use a tape measure and level to determine the low point of the house. From this point, measure up the distance specified by the siding manufacturer and snap a chalk line to indicate your starting point.

2. Install aluminum starter strip all the way around the house along your chalked baseline. Nail the starter strip to the house every 16 inches, using corrosion resistant nails.

3. Fasten your j-channel to the inside and outside corners of the house, around the sides and tops of the windows and doorframes, and along sloped eaves. Nail the j-channel through prefabricated nail slots, leaving 1/32 to 1/16 inch of the nail shafts exposed. This will allow the vinyl to expand in high heat. Leave ¼ inch between vinyl pieces where they meet.

4. Fasten utility trim along the underside of windows and along horizontal eaves.

5. Install your first course of siding panels. Use tin snips to cut the panels to the correct length. Fit the base of the first row into the aluminum starter strip; fit the ends into the affixed j-channels. Where two panels intersect, overlap them by four inches. Leave ¼ inch between the end of a panel and the back of the j-channel. Nail the vinyl siding panels every 16 inches through prefabricated nail slots along the top edge. Use corrosion resistant nails and leave 1/32 to 1/16 inch of the nail shafts exposed.

6. Check your level every 3rd or 4th siding row. If you begin to lose your level, make minor adjustments over several rows, as opposed to one single, major fix.

7. Use tin snips to cut siding panels and pieces to the correct length.

Trim the panel to fit around the windows and doors. Use tin snips to cut the panels vertically and a utility knife to slice them lengthwise.

8. Use a snap lock tool to punch lugs into the top edges of the panels. Punch lugs every 16 inches where the top edge of the panels fit into the utility trim along the underside of the windows. Snap the punched edges into the utility trim.

9. Punch lugs into the top edge of the panels that will fit into utility trim along the horizontal eaves. Use your tin snips to cut a panel to the appropriate length and angle so that it fits into the j-channel along sloped eaves.

Decorate A Room With A Texas Rangers Theme

The Texas Rangers did not enjoy much success in their first 35 seasons of existence. Nevertheless, the Rangers have a strong fan base. If you're a fan, here is how you can decorate a room with a Texas Rangers theme.

Instructions

1. Paint the room in the colors of the Texas Rangers. Red and blue are the primary colors found on the uniforms of the Rangers. In order to get the color exact, look at a cap or team logo.

2. Place a flag or banner with the logo of the Texas Rangers at the entrance of the room. This, along with painting the walls, ensures that everybody who enters the room will immediately know which baseball team your cheer for during the season.

3. Dedicate a portion of the room to Nolan Ryan. Even though Ryan only spent four seasons with the Rangers, he still collected two no-hitters with the team and could very well be the greatest pitcher in the history of the franchise. Search for Nolan Ryan memorabilia in team shops and online and place these objects in the room.

4. Place something in the room to commemorate the beginning of the franchise. Originally, the Texas Rangers were the Washington Senators. Perhaps you could frame a picture of a former Senators player or manager, such as Ted Williams.

5. Find a poster or picture of Rangers Ballpark in Arlington and place it in the room. The Ballpark in Arlington has been the home of the Texas Rangers since 1994 and is truly a beautiful place to watch a baseball game.

6. Put something in the room to remember the 30-run game of 2007. In August of 2007, the Texas Rangers became the first baseball team in over a century to score 30 runs in a game, defeating the Baltimore Orioles 30-3. Find newspaper clippings and pictures from this game and place them in the room.

Replace Paintball Tank Burst Disks

In a liquid CO2 paintball tank, there is a burst disk screwed into the side of the tank's fill valve. It's a safety device for pressure build-up. When liquid CO2 heats up, it builds high pressures. The burst disk pops when too much pressure builds up in the tank. This prevents tank explosion.

Instructions

1. Replace paintball tank burst disks by first making sure the tank is empty. You may have small leakage around the burst disk. If so, you may need to simply tighten the disk. If the disk is compromised or damaged, you must replace the burst disk.

2. Empty the tank by using a CO2 fill station. This puts pressure on the pin of the tank which releases any pressure that may be in the tank. Always do this as a safety precaution before removing the burst disk whenever you replace paintball tank burst disks.

3. Unscrew the burst disk. The burst disk nut is made out of brass with a hole in the center. A copper plate is actually the burst disk. Remove the compromised burst disk from the bottom of the brass nut. Replace the old burst disk with a new one. Screw the new burst disk and nut back into your tank securely.

4. Check for leaks when you replace paintball tank burst disks. If you over-tighten the brass nut which holds the burst disk, you may weaken the burst disk. Fill the tank. Look to see if liquid CO2 is coming out around the new burst disk. Pour oil or soapy water around the threads on the burst disk nut. If you don't see any bubbles, you are good to go.

Restore Playground Equipment

Restore playground equipment and give kids a safe place to play.

Playgrounds should be safe environments where children can enjoy themselves and have a good time. However, if the playground is old and run down it could be a safety hazard to neighborhood children. Playground equipment for the most part is designed for extreme weather conditions, but over time elements like water, the sun and wind take a toll on materials like plastic, metal and wood. Restoring your neighborhood playground might be a difficult task but the result is worth it.

Instructions

Wood Equipment

1. Remove any old rotted wood and replace it with new wood planks or boards of the exact size. Replace rusted nails that are poking out with new nails.

2. Spray down any wood equipment with metal bolts or parts with metal prep and conditioner. Read the instructions for the type of metal prep and conditioner you are using to see how long you should let the equipment sit after being sprayed. Once you start to see brown foam you should start to scrub the rust away with a nylon scrub pad. Rinse the equipment off with a water hose and let it dry.

3. Sand the wood equipment down to remove dense fibers and splinters. Add caulking to cracks, joints and seams to prevent water from damaging the wood and causing rot. Let the caulking dry according to the directions from the manufacturer found on the caulk tube. Wash the wood with a hose to dislodge any wood debris or dirt. Let the equipment dry.

4. Add two coats of primer to the wood equipment. Follow the manufacturer directions for application and drying. Apply two coats of Latex paint to the wood equipment. Follow the directions on the primer can for application and drying. The Latex paint will provide the primed wood with a glossy finish and will dry relatively quickly.

Plastic Equipment

5. Sand down the plastic areas that are not worn and are still glossy. This will help the spray paint adhere to the plastic.

6. Mix a solution of one part bleach for every for every nine parts water in a plastic bucket. Use a scrub brush and scrub down all of the equipment. Rinse off the equipment with a hose and let the plastic equipment dry. This helps remove the plastic debris from sanding and any mildew or mold that has developed over time.

7. Apply a thin coat of plastic primer. The primer will act as a base for the paint and help prevent the paint from cracking. Follow the directions on the side of the primer can for drying.

8. Lay down a drop cloth. Stand 10 to 15 inches away from the plastic equipment and spray paint in an even, sweeping motion until the entire piece is covered. Apply a second coat. Follow the drying and application directions on the side of the paint can.

Change An Oring In A Paintball Gun

An O-ring keeps the air seal between the bolt and chamber of your gun.

Paintball is a popular sport for all ages. It doesn't require expertise or great athleticism. It simply requires timing, a wise mind and conditioned equipment. If you are into paintball, knowing replace the O-ring in your gun saves you a trip to the repairman and keep you playing. An O-ring is often used whenever a tight seal is desired between two parts. In paintball guns, O-rings are used to seal off spaces to avoid air leakage. Thus, the O-ring is a vital part of the paintball gun that needs periodic replacement.

Instructions

1. Take off the gun's cover by removing the few screws that hold it in place. There are usually three or four screws on the gun stock and around the trigger that hold the covering together.

2. Take off the end cap from the back of the gun to remove the linkage arm. This might cause the trigger spring to pop out. Pay attention to the trigger spring. The end cap is located in the gun's rear, near the trigger that keeps the front and rear bolt tight and intact. The linkage arm is a piece of light-gauge metal running from the front to the rear bolt. This will allow you to take the front and rear bolts out.

3. Take out the front bolt by detaching it from the air chamber. Since the in-cap is loose, you also have to unhook the two loaded 1 1/2-inch springs holding the rear bolt. The springs have two complementary receivers, so make sure not to set them apart that much.

4. Remove the rear bolt by taking it out from the air chamber. It should be done right after unhooking the loaded springs on its rear.

5. Replace the O-ring. Take the old O-ring out using your little finger, and put the new O-ring in by pulling the O-ring over the front while the middle finger is pinning it against the back of the bolt.

6. Lubricate the new O-ring by coating it with silicone lubricating grease. You can rub the grease on with your finger. This will ensure that there will be good air seal and will help make the O-ring last.

7. Screw the front bolt back and align it to the linkage arm.

8. Put the rear bolt back by aligning the springs to the gun's sleeves.

9. Put the spring back into the trigger and put on the gun cover.

Make Scratch Repairs On A Gun Stock

Make Scratch Repairs on a Gun Stock

Even if you're careful, your gun stock can become scratched, making the gun look worn and tired. Owning a gun means taking responsibility for its care, so knowing care for the stock is essential.

Always make sure your gun is not loaded before attempting any repairs or maintenance.

Instructions

1. Wipe the stock several times with a paper towel that has been moistened with vinegar. This removes oils from your hands and built-up dirt. Let the stock dry completely.

2. Moisten a cloth with G96 hi-speed linseed oil and gently rub into the stock in a circular motion. The linseed oil will begin to fill in the scratches in the stock.

3. Repeat Step 2 but with more linseed oil on your cloth. Use more in scratched areas of the gun stock to allow the oil to build up. With each application, you will see the scratches disappear.

4. Wipe off excess after allowing the rifle to sit overnight.

Make Your Own Paintball Vest

Paintball Vest

A paintball vest is a garment that serves two functions. The pockets of the vest allow players to carry their equipment, such as extra ammunition and maps. The padding protects a player's upper body from the power of a close range paintball hit. This basic vest is designed with pockets in the front so they are easy to access. Attached with Velcro, the pockets can be arranged to suit each player's individual needs. The vest itself is a simple garment and can be made from a variety of materials, provided the chosen fabric is durable and fairly heavy.

Instructions

Make the Pattern--Back of the Vest

1. Measure the widest part of your chest with the measuring tape. Divide the measurement by 2. Write this number down and add 3 inches to this measurement. This is the width of the vest.

2. Measure the distance from the top of your shoulder to just below the waist. Add 2 inches to this measurement. This is the length of the vest.

3. Spread the paper flat and smooth out the wrinkles. Cut a rectangle from the paper in the width and length you want your vest to be. If your paper isn't big enough, use two pieces taped together.

4. Measure the distance from the top of your shoulder to the middle of your ribcage, or where you would like the armhole to be. Add 1 inch to this measurement.

5. Fold the paper rectangle in half lengthwise. On the nonfolded edge, mark off the distance from the top of the paper to the armhole. Make a curved line from the top of the paper to this mark, drawing what will be the armhole of the vest.

6. Measure the distance from your shoulder to the base of your neck. Mark this distance at the top of the vest pattern, beginning with the nonfolded edge. Two inches from the top of the paper, make a mark. Draw a slightly curved line connecting these two marks, forming the pattern for the neckline of the vest.

7. Cut out the openings for the arm and neck. Carefully unfold the paper. This is the pattern for the back of the vest.

Make the Pattern--Front of the Vest

8. Fold the pattern for the back of the vest in half lengthwise and place it on top of a second piece of paper.

9. Trace the pattern drawing armholes that are slightly further in and creating a deeper neckline. What neckline to create is a matter of personal preference, but V-neck is a popular style for paintball vests.

10. Add 2 inches more material to the front of the vest (the area opposite the armhole) to create an overlap where the vest will close in the front with either buttons, a zipper or Velcro.

11. Ignore Step 3 if you do not want a front-closure vest. You can leave the front as one solid piece that slips on over your head and add closure ties to the sides instead. The time to decide which style you prefer is now, before the material is cut.

12. Cut the pattern for the vest front and unfold the paper. If doing a front closure vest, carefully cut this pattern in half lengthwise to form the two sides of the front.

Make the Vest

13. Pin the pattern to the vest material and cut the pieces. Repeat with quilted fabric.

14. Match the quilted pieces to their outer vest counterparts and sew them to each other, creating individual padded vest pieces.

15. Pin the vest pieces together. Sew the sides together with triple seams.

16. Sew the shoulder seams together with triple seams. Reinforce neckline and armholes with double stitched bias tape.

17.Pin back 1/2 an inch of the raw edges in the front of the vest. Triple stitch from the top to the bottom. Add fasteners--a zipper, buttons or Velcro.

18. Triple-stitch squares of Velcro to the front and back of the vest. Add elastic loops where necessary to keep equipment from being jostled loose.

19. Use extra vest material to create pockets in various and assorted sizes to fit your gear. Attach Velcro to the back of each pocket so it can be added or removed from your vest as needed. Make sure each pocket has a Velcro closure at the top, so gear doesn't fall out when you're moving.

Tune A Paintball Gun

Paintball is an extreme sport that pits teams of players against one another in simulated combat situations. Balls of gelatinous paint are used instead of live ammunition in specially crafted paintball guns, commonly known as "markers", that are used to fire upon opposing combatants. Paintball guns use compressed air to launch the paintballs at high velocities. Properly tuning a paintball gun increases its longevity as well as its accuracy and reliability on the field.

Instructions

1. Disengage and remove your air canister. Safety is paramount and the gun must be unable to fire during the tuning process.

2. Clean the marker using a sponge and warm water. The water dissolves any paintballs lodged in the barrel or paint that has splattered on the outside of the weapon.

3. Dry the gun with a soft cotton towel. All water should be removed in order to properly lubricate the marker.

4. Apply three drops of paintball gun oil to the moving parts of the weapon. Proper lubrication ensures correct timing for your shots and helps prevent jams.

5. Check the O-rings for damage. Damaged seals can cause dangerous situations if the compressed air tank releases its contents toward a user. These should be replaced immediately.

6. Place a paper target at chest level and approximately 20 to 50 yards from your firing location. If you are shooting a sniper rifle, longer ranges should be used. Use shorter distances for assault rifles or other close combat weaponry.

7. Set your chronograph to measure the speed of the paintballs. Safe paintball firing speeds are between 275 and 300 feet per second.

8. Attach your paintball air canister.

9. Adjust the scope on the weapon, or align the sights, to the center of the target.

10. Fire three shots towards your target. Take note of which shots hit the correct area. The spread should completely cover the targeted area.

11. Make any further adjustments to the scope or regulator as necessary to attain a perfect hit and speed. Use the sliding wheels of your scope and the paintball gun or tank's regulator settings as directed by the manufacturer. This process varies by marker.

Build A Custom Rifle

Choose from a wide variety of calibers.

For many rifle enthusiasts there is nothing quite as special as a custom-made rifle that reflects the interests and capabilities of the owner. With the right tools, and some basic knowledge of how guns work, putting together a quality custom gun is surprisingly easy and cost effective.

The biggest challenge comes beforehand, when deciding which piece will work best with another. Having a trusted adviser, who is very knowledgeable about custom rifles, will help get you through the hard questions and into the actual building.

Instructions

1. Choose the caliber that best fits your needs. Hunting big game requires a larger caliber than hunting smaller game. Many custom target rifles, such as those seen in the Olympics, are built around the .22 long rifle cartridge, the most popular in the world.

2. Pick the action from among bolt, lever, semi-automatic or single.

3. Select a barrel with the desired characteristics, including material, length, twist rate, bull or fluted, match qualities and weight. Screw the barrel into the action and bolt down following the manufacturer’s instructions. Use headspace gauges to ensure a proper fit.

4. Match the action and barrel against a close-fitting wood or synthetic stock. File away the unnecessary material from the stock and modify any openings to ensure a close fitting.

5. Attach the action and barrel to the modified and fitted stock. Check the feel and fit of the rifle to your shoulder and cheek. Modify the stock as necessary by using a wood rasp and sanding to obtain the best fit.

Make Stencils To Paint Camo

Stencils to paint a camouflage effect can be easily made at home with some cardboard, a pencil and a craft knife. To create a camouflage effect you will need two or three separate stencils of the same size with different patterns. Each will be used for a different paint color. By layering the colors of paint and using a series of different stencils, you will make the camouflage pattern appear gradually.

Instructions

1. Using the pencil, lightly draw a line down the middle of each sheet of cardboard horizontally and vertically to outline four quadrants. This will act as a guide for positioning the camouflage shapes so that each color layer will overlap but not entirely cover each other.

2. Sketch one or two blob shapes in the middle of each quadrant for the first stencil. You can look at a picture or item of camouflage clothing as a guide. You should draw simple rounded blobs with lots of arms and legs, a similar shape to coral or spilled oil (see Figure 1).

3. For the second stencil, sketch one or two blob shapes of different sizes over the pencil lines. This ensures that the shapes painted in one color do not completely cover the shapes on the previous layer, although some overlapping is fine (see Figure 2).

4. For the third stencil, draw a blob shape in the center of the square and one close to each corner (see Figure 3).

5. On a level surface, use the craft knife to cut out the blob shapes for each stencil. If the card is thin enough, you may be able to use scissors.

Using the Stencils

6. To paint a camouflage pattern using the stencils, first paint the surface entirely with the lightest of your four camouflage colors.

7. When the paint is dry, position any one of the stencils over the background, secure it in place with painters' tape and paint in the blob shapes with the second palest color. Leave the stencil in position until the paint dries.

8. Position a second stencil over the background and paint in the blob shapes with the next darkest color. Leave it to dry and then remove the stencil.

9. Position the third stencil over the background, and paint with the darkest color.

How Does An Ear Piercing Gun Work

How Does an Ear Piercing Gun Work?

How It Works

An ear piercing gun is a tool used to pierce earlobes. Shaped like a handgun, it uses a spring action to push a sharp-pointed earring through the earlobe when the piercer pulls a trigger. Ear piercing guns are typically loaded with starter earrings (also called piercing studs) made of surgical steel or some other hypoallergenic metal, such as gold or titanium. Starter earrings have posts which are thicker than the posts on normal earrings, and the backings of starter earrings (called friction backs) are snapped onto the posts as the earlobe is pierced.

Older Models

Older models of ear piercing guns have tubes to load the pre-sterilized earring, and a holder for the backing. In these models, the earring and backing are loaded manually. The piercer pulls backward on the tube containing the earring, then puts the earlobe between the earring and the backing. She pulls the trigger and the spring snaps the earring into the backing with a force that is strong enough to push the earring through the lobe at the same time.

In these older models, the cartridge that holds the earring comes into contact with the earlobe, but its parts are not removable or are made of plastic and therefore cannot be properly sterilized in an autoclave, increasing the risk of passing infections through blood-borne pathogens.

Newer Models

Newer models of piercing guns come with a disposable plastic cartridge that can be changed after each use. These disposable cartridges are sold with the earring and the backing already inside, making it unnecessary for the piercer to touch the jewelry when she loads it into the gun. In Europe and Australia, these newer models are required in mall piercing shops, although in the United States, piercing guns are not regulated by the U.S. Health Department.

Hand Clasp Models

Another type of piercing gun, called a hand clasp model, is more of a clasp than a gun. Instead of using a spring action to snap the earring into the lobe, the user squeezes the clasp to push the earring through the lobe into the backing. This third type of piercing tool is usually sold in packets with the starter earrings, and is to be used at home rather than in a mall or piercing studio.

Warnings

Although piercing guns were used to pierce places other than earlobes (such as an ear cartilage or nostrils), some European countries and U.S. states have limited its use to earlobes. Critics of piercing guns claim the gun causes more trauma to the area being pierced than professional piercing needles, and that a piercing gun can, in fact, crack the cartilage in the ear. Professional piercers also warn that using guns even for simple earlobe pierces increases the risk of infection, since workers in malls have little training in avoiding cross-contamination, rarely wear gloves, and the shops lack the appropriate sterilization equipment. Piercing guns with disposable cartridges, however, reduce the risk of passing infections.

Capture The Flag In Team Fortress 2

Capture the Flag in Team Fortress 2

There are a variety of different ways to capture the flag and score victory for your team in Team Fortress 2. No one way is the best, but some ways work better than others. If you're looking to take your game to the offensive level, give one of these strategies a try and see how they work for you.

Instructions

1. Study the layout of your base. The layout of the enemy base is going to be very similar, if not identical. Find the quickest way down to the enemy flag (Intelligence) and the quickest way you can escape.

2. Become a Scout. If you're already in-game, the default key to chance your class is the "," key. The Scout has a higher running speed than any other class and has a nasty shotgun to boot. The Scout is the golden standard in flag capturing.

3. Become a Spy. While the Spy lacks the Scout's speed capability, the Spy has the ability to enter the enemy base incognito. Do so carefully, and you can have a straight, unopposed walk down to the enemy Intel. Be forewarned that once you get down there and grab it, your disguise drops and you'll need to shoot your way back out!

4. Become a Soldier. Next to the Heavy, the Soldier is the toughest hombre in the bunch. He has high health and packs a mean punch. The Soldier and his rocket launcher are also one of the best-equipped to deal with static defenses (sentry guns) sitting on or near the Intel. If at all possible, bring a Medic with you; this will make your job a lot easier.

5. Choose the Heavy. The Heavy, while slow, has the highest health in the game and a massive minigun in his hands. You can wade through scores of lesser troops with a good Medic at your side, and walking away with the Intel will be easier with the Heavy than with nearly anyone else. Beware the ammo counter! You've only got 200 shells for the minigun, so make them count and be sure to grab the weapons off fallen enemies for a quick reload.

6. Ask for a Medic if you don't already have one. With the exception of the Spy and the Scout, any class can potentially make off with the Intel with the help of a good Medic. While you may be able to pull it off otherwise, having a Medic with you greatly increases your chances of success.

7. Ask for an escort. One of the easiest ways to break an enemy blockade is to charge it with everything you've got. If your entire team (minus defense of course) charges the enemy defense at once instead of one at a time, your chances of breaking through and grabbing the Intel increase dramatically. This might seem obvious, but not many teams do it.

Kinpira

Kinpira is a 3D platform game similar to Sonic Adventure for the Sega Dreamcast. Unlike Sonic, however, Kinpira is focused more on strength than speed. As you guide Kinpira on his quest to save his mother, you pick up rice cakes in order to up the little guy's might. While at first you can only lift smaller items (like jars and torches), you'll find it easier to lift heavier objects as you eat more and more, eventually being able to toss full-sized pirate ships. An incredibly adorable and family-friendly samurai game, Kinpira's three levels can be enjoyed by just about anyone, though the play control does take a little getting used to.

Star Beacons

Oh, no! A race of adorable, unnamed water creatures is in trouble. The Armada has scattered the pieces of their sun about the galaxy, and it's your job as the hero to recover them.

Playing much like the popular pachinko game Peggle, you control one of the water creatures on his quest to save his people. Piloting a golden space ship that fires orbs at aliens, the objective is to clear as many aliens and asteroids as possible while racking up the most points. A strangely addicting game, Star Beacons is simple and fun to play. You'll be surprised how quickly you find yourself absorbed in its quirky cuteness (and jaunty soundtrack). Eventually you'll find yourself plotting the best way to clear a stage, making you use your mind a lot more than you'd expect in this sort of game.

Use Boxmen

Greg Sergeant's Use Boxmen is a puzzle platformer brimming with charm. You play as Boxman, a blocky individual with the ability to duplicate himself. To the sound of a relaxing, jazzy soundtrack, your objective is to guide Boxman through a series of puzzles using your wits and Boxman's unique ability. Of course, you're likely to make loads of mistakes, but no worries. Just hit the "R" key and the puzzle is reset, ready for you to give it another go. The puzzles get trickier as you go, so be prepared for a bit of a challenge. Easily one of the best and most relaxing games on Shockwave.com, Use Boxmen should not be missed.

Shipping Regulations For Nitrogen Cylinders

Shipping Regulations for Nitrogen Cylinders

Nitrogen cylinders are highly compressed containers of nitrogen gas. The shipment of nitrogen cylinders requires strict adherence to federal shipping regulations. It must follow the regulations or the Department of Transport (DOT). The labeling and identification required on the shipping containers is also stipulated by the title 49 of the DOT regulations. Before stating the shipping regulations of nitrogen, it is important to understand the physical properties of nitrogen, as they determine the shipping stipulations on nitrogen.

Physical Properties of Nitrogen

Nitrogen is an inert, colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that does not support combustion. Nitrogen also does not support respiration, hence an exposure to a pure nitrogen atmosphere can cause death without any warning. Nitrogen is slightly lighter than air and is only slightly soluble in water. It is for this reason that strict safety measures are followed for the shipping of nitrogen. Nitrogen is naturally present in the atmosphere at a concentration of 78.1 percent.

Adverse Health Effects of Nitrogen

A direct contact with directly expanding nitrogen can cause frostbite, redness of skin, blistering, and a change of skin color to gray or white. Gaseous nitrogen causes asphyxiation by oxygen deficiency. Nitrogen should be shipped very carefully, and care should be taken to look for symptoms of asphyxiation. Symptoms of nitrogen asphyxiation include rapid breathing, muscular coordination problems, emotional instability, and fatigue. Proper care should be taken during shipment as nitrogen asphyxiation can cause death within seconds.

Nitrogen Cylinders

Nitrogen transportation cylinders are manufactured according to DOT regulations that stipulate every shipping detail, including the material of the cylinder, the method of cylinder manufacture, testing, etc. Gaseous nitrogen is shipped in high-pressure cylinders rated at 2,200 psig. The weight of the cylinder is an important consideration; if a leakage occurs, the weight of the cylinder will prevent the cylinder from turning into a rocket. The weight of the cylinder depends on the grade of steel used in the manufacture of the cylinder; the common weight of a 2,200 psig cylinder is 150 lbs.

Safety of Cylinders during Shipping

Cylinders are provided with safety valves and a steel cap to protect them from any damage. Nitrogen cylinders are also equipped with pressure relief devices to protect over-pressurization. The pressure-release devices must be used cautiously since contact with nitrogen can be fatal. For a shipment of nitrogen, the stampings on a cylinder are equally important. Cylinder stampings must have the symbol of DOT. The stamping should also consist of other cylinder details like date of manufacture and cylinder serial number.

Shipping Regulations

Nitrogen is a DOT hazard class 2.2 material. The shipments must comply with DOT regulations. Air shipments should comply with IATA (International Air Transport Association) and ICAO (International Civil Air Organization) dangerous goods regulations. The marine shipment of nitrogen should comply with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations. The packages of nitrogen transport should have either "UN/DOT specification" or "UN/DOT authorized" stamps on them.

What Is An Egrip On A Paintball Gun

The purpose of an e-grip is to shoot more paintballs

E-grips are a popular new feature on many paintball guns. These special grips are available on both very low priced paintball guns as well as high priced paintball guns. As with all types of paintball equipment, the quality of e-grips can vary greatly depending on the cost. While these grips may not be necessary in a paintball match, they provide the user with a competitive advantage.

An Electronic Grip

An E-grip, or electronic grip, is a popular feature on many new paintball guns. Paintball players can choose to purchase guns that come equipped with e-grips or can upgrade regular paintball guns. Electronic grips consist of the entire trigger frame assembly and bolt to the body of paintball guns.

Increased Rate of Fire

One of the main reasons to have an e-grip on a paintball gun is increased rate of fire. Electronic grips tend to have very short trigger pulls, resulting in a high rate of fire. They may also feature adjustable triggers which can help a player customize his trigger to his liking.

Different Firing Modes

A feature that is unique to e-grips are different firing modes. Most e-grips have semi-automatic modes, three-ball burst modes and fully automatic modes. Semi-automatic is a mode that allows the paintball gun to shoot one ball with one trigger pull. The three ball burst mode allows the user to fire three balls with one trigger pull and the fully automatic mode allows the user to shoot a constant stream of paintballs with one trigger pull.

Batteries and Technology

Perhaps one of the biggest downfalls of e-grips is that they require the use of batteries and are susceptible to water and other forms of damage. When the battery on an e-grip runs out, the paintball guns will cease to fire. Also, if an e-grip equipped paintball gun is dropped in water or is thrown around hard, the electronics may break.

Restrictions

While fields may allow the use of e-grip equipped paintball guns, there are restrictions placed on the modes that may be used. Generally speaking, three ball burst and fully automatic modes are restricted at all paintball fields. Paintball players are required to use the semi-automatic mode so that the competition will be fair.

Use A Bolt On An Odessy Paintball Gun

Maintaining a clean paintball marker is essential to enjoy the sport.

The bolt on an Odyssey paintball gun is an integral part of the gun's operation. The bolt oscillates during the firing cycle. It travels forward to initiate the paintball's travel down the barrel and focuses the burst of air that propels the paintball toward its target. Since the bolt is an automatic part of the firing process, a person cannot use it in the manner he would use a magazine or paintball gun cleaner. Using the bolt could be more accurately described as keeping the bolt clean and lubricated.

Instructions

1. Pull the T-shaped pin located at the back end of the marker upward, and slide the bolt out the rear of the paintball marker.

2. Inspect the bolt. Odyssey paintball markers have been built with two types of bolts. One bolt type is constructed of Delrin, a lightweight composite. Clean the bolt with a light spray of general purpose cleaning spray and a paper towel or cloth. The bolt will be lightly scratched as a result of normal use. If the bolt surface shows significant, deep scratches or gouges, the bolt should be replaced.

3. Press the aluminum pin at the rear of the Odyssey O3 Signature series paintball marker. This marker features a newly designed 'quick link' bolt. This aluminum bolt is removed by pressing a small pin, which allows the bolt to slide out the rear of the marker. This bolt should be similarly examined for excessive use and cleaned periodically.

4. Clear the bowl firing chamber of any paintball debris. This debris should be removed with a general purpose spray cleaner. Dispose of any paintballs that have debris or wet paint on their outer shell. Such paintballs will jam the marker during the firing cycle.

5. Reinsert the Odyssey paintball marker bolt into the rear of the marker. Ensure the bolt pin locks in place, connecting with the marker hammer, which activates the firing cycle. The quick lock bolt will snap loudly when the connection has been made with the hammer.

Make Colorful Smoke Bombs

Make Colorful Smoke Bombs

Did you ever wonder about making your own homemade smoke bomb? Perhaps you want to use it for paint-balling, airsoft games, or even for tactical training purposes. Whatever the case might be, learn how you can safely and effectively create your own smoke bomb!

Instructions

1. The first step in making your smoke bomb is to gather up all of your supplies. Pour a ratio of about 5:3 of potassium nitrate and sugar into your pan. You don't have to be exact with the measurements, but make sure that you have more potassium nitrate. This is help make your smoke bomb burn quickly when the final product is done.

2. Next, apply some low temperature heat to the pan and stir the mixtures with a spatula. Keep on stirring your potassium nitrate and sugar mixture until you obtain a chocolate or caramel texture. Continue to stir until the mixtures become liquefied.

3. Once you obtain the brown liquid for your smoke bomb, pour the contents onto a piece of aluminium foil. It doesn't matter how big it is, but 6" by 6" should suffice. Let your mixture cool off for a couple minutes and wrap it into a ball.

4. Now, you have created your own homemade smoke bomb! Before lighting it, make sure to go outside to a ventilated location. The smoke bomb will burn vigorously, depending on your potassium nitrate to sugar ratio. The color of your smoke bomb should be a taint purple.

5. Perhaps you want to make colored smoke bombs. In order to achieve a black powder smoke bomb, try adding in a mixture of sugar and sulfur. Adding a bit of sawdust will make your smoke bombs black in color.

6. Achieving a white smoke bomb involves adding 4 parts potassium nitrate, 10 parts sulfur, 5 parts charcoal, and 3 parts sawdust.

7. A red smoke bomb could also be obtained by having about 65% para-nitroaniline red, 15% potassium chlorate, and 20% lactose.

8. Lastly, you can get a green smoke bomb by adding 15% auramine, 35% potassium chlorate, about 25% lactose, and 25% synthetic indigo.

Homemade Tippmann A5 Mods

Standard paintball ammunition ready to be loaded, aimed and fired.

The Tippman A5 is an aluminum, die-cast, semi-automatic paintball gun with a baseline wide mouth hopper and fully enclosed receiver. It is an easily customizable marker; several homemade internal and external modifications can be made to enhance its overall performance.

Background

The 0.68 caliber A5 features a cyclone feed system, shock-absorbing end caps, and can be field-stripped and reassembled in less than a minute. The marker can be modified with flat-line and sniper barrel additions, advanced trigger systems, and pressure and expansion chamber kits.

Internal Modifications

The A5 can be easily modified by using paint remover and steel wool to remove the factory over-spray in the receiver halves to rid of excess drag. Sliding a cotton swap stick inside the trigger spring or placing a trimmed piece of plastic straw on the trigger stop pin helps counter over-stroke. Polishing the barrel with a cloth, cleaning rod and metal polishing solution increases range and improves accuracy.

External Modifications

For camouflaging, apply a base-coat to the A5 and use an airbrush to paint your marker with scenario-specific camouflage. By trimming polyvinyl chloride (PVC) tubing to encase the barrel, you can add modifiable rails and grip tape without damaging the barrel or internal functioning of the marker. Harnesses can also be made out of belting, roping or nylon material. Filling a ported, plastic cylinder with stainless steel wool or insulation padding and fitting it over the end of a non-ported barrel creates a silencer effect.

Install An Expansion Chamber On A Spyder Sonix

An Expansion Chamber on a Paintball Gun

Installing an expansion chamber on your Spyder Sonix is a quick and easy upgrade. Every time a paintball marker fires, a small amount of liquid CO2 is drawn into the marker. An expansion chamber eliminates this problem by allowing the liquid CO2 to turn into a gas. The result is a smoother shooting and more accurate paintball gun.

Instructions

Installing the Expansion Chamber

1. Remove the stock foregrip from the Spyder Sonix. This can be accomplished by simply unscrewing both the foregrip from the body of the gun and the air source adapter from the trigger frame.

2. Screw the expansion chamber into the location where the foregrip was. Tighten the expansion chamber gently; forcing it will cause air leaks.

3. Screw the air source adapter connected to the expansion chamber to the bottom of the trigger frame. Make sure the air input is facing the back of the gun.

Put A Shorty Exhaust On A 05 R6

As delivered from Yamaha, your 2005 YZF-R6 is fitted with a large muffler that excels at reducing both gaseous and noise emissions. It's also fairly heavy and not very attractive, especially when compared to the low-slung short mufflers used on the 2006 and newer R6 models. However, a quick look through your local Yamaha dealer's parts catalogs will uncover a selection of shorty-style slip-on mufflers that will enhance the look of your R6, while reducing its overall weight. Installation should take less than an hour, thanks to the readily accessible design of the R6's exhaust system.

Instructions

1. Select a level work area and mount your R6 on a swingarm stand to support it in a vertical position. Let the motorcycle's exhaust cool for at least one hour.

2. Unscrew the mounting bolts on both sides of the lower fairing with a 4-mm Allen wrench. Lower the fairing away from the motorcycle until you can remove it completely.

3. Loosen the clamp securing the muffler to the exhaust's header pipes, positioned directly below the rider's right foot peg, with a 10-mm socket and a socket wrench.

4. Unscrew the muffler's hanger bolt from the passenger's right foot peg bracket with a 12-mm socket and a socket wrench. Grasp the muffler with both hands and pull it to the rear of the motorcycle until it is free of the header pipe's flange.

5. Clean the header pipe's flange with an automotive parts cleaning spray to remove any carbon build-up that will affect the seal between the header pipe and the new muffler. Use a plastic-bristled brush to remove large carbon deposits.

6. Spread a thin layer of high-temperature silicone sealant around the new muffler's mating surface, then push the muffler into the header pipe's flange. Align the muffler's hanger bracket, if equipped, with the mounting bracket on the bottom of the passenger's right foot peg. Loosely bolt the muffler's hanger bracket to the foot peg, using a 12-mm socket and a socket wrench.

7. Reposition the muffler until it is fully-seated within the header pipe's flange, then tighten the exhaust clamp to 15 foot-pounds, using a 10-mm socket and a torque wrench. Tighten the muffler's hanger bolt, if used, to 17 foot-pounds, using a 10-mm socket and a torque wrench.

8. Lift the lower fairing into place under your R6, then screw the fairing's mounting bolts into place with a 4-mm Allen wrench.

Grow A Youth Group

Anyone who has ever led a youth group knows how hard it is to not only to keep attendance up of current members but also to add new members to the group. Outreach can be a challenge as many schools will not allow religiously affiliated flyers or speakers. In addition, youth group members can be reluctant to invite friends and acquaintances for fear they will be rejected.

There are a few things you can try that will likely help your youth group grow. One of the most important things you can do is to keep trying new and different approaches until you find one or several things that work. Also, be patient. It can take time for word to get out and your group to grow.

Instructions

1. Ground your current youth members in God's word. Until your youth group is solid and growing at a steady spiritual pace, you probably shouldn't attempt to grow the group. Get a handle on serving your current members. As they grow closer to God, they will want to reach out to others and help you grow the group.

2. Plan a pizza blast night. Offer pizza, movies and games such as Sardines for the kids. Allow youth group members to invite at least one friend. Giving tickets out can make the event seem special and by invitation only. While the main focus of this night should be on having fun and enjoying one another's company, there should be at least a short period of time devoted to sharing the gospel. You may have teens at this event who will never have another opportunity to hear God's word.

3. Offer a lock-in. This is exhausting for the youth leaders, but great fun for the teens. Allow them to invite friends and you'll have an opportunity to reach out to other area youth.

4. Ask your kids to tell others about their experiences in youth group. For example, one youth told his friends he wouldn't be at the next exciting high school party because he was going on a youth retreat. This made the other teens curious, and they wanted to know what was so exciting about that youth group, so they visited.

5. Ask schools if you can come talk to the kids about a topic, such as safe driving. While speaking invite them to come hear more on the topic Sunday morning in your youth group. Be up front with the school about what you'll speak about, though. Some schools do not allow this. It's better to be honest and gain a good reputation than to be sneaky and anger the school.

6. Make up glossy brochures featuring pictures of your youth group doing fun activities and an outline of how you worship together and learn more about God. Be sure to put the address, dates and times the group meets and your contact information. Leave the brochures in laundry mats, the library, local doctor and dentist offices and ask your youth group members to hand them out.
