Fire A Shot Gun

You're going to need shotgun shells to fire a shotgun.

In theory, firing a shotgun is as easy as pulling the trigger. However, there are a few steps that need to be observed for proper technique, and there are also variances between shooting a single-barreled and a double-barreled shotgun. As with any gun, it is always important to treat the firearm as if it is loaded all the time. Also remember to open the breech when the gun is not in use.

Instructions

Single-barreled

1. Push the lever to break open the shotgun`s breach. Load your shotgun by placing a shell directly into the barrel.

2. Shut the breech by pushing the front of the gun up until it snaps into place, creating a straight line with your handle and the barrel. Ensure that the safety is on until you are ready to shoot.

3. Aim the gun, following your target if it is moving. Breathe deeply to steady your hands. With one hand on the barrel and one hand pulling the trigger, fire your gun.

4. Open the beech and grab the empty shell from the barrel. Put it in your pocket or in a sack.

Double-Barreled

5. Push the lever to break open the shotgun`s breach. Load your shotgun with two shells, one in each barrel.

6. Shut the breech by pushing up the front of the gun, creating a straight line between your handle and the barrels. Ensure the safety is on until you are ready to shoot.

7. Aim the gun, following your target if it is moving. Breathe deeply to steady your hands. With one hand on the barrel grip and one hand pulling the trigger, fire your first trigger, the one closest to your hand. Fire the second shell by pulling the other trigger.

8. Open the breech and grab the shells from the barrels. Put them into your pocket or in a sack.

Customize A Tippmann A5

Paintball is enjoyed by many weekend warriors.

Paintball is both a sport and hobby which involves using specially designed air guns, called markers, to propel paintballs at opponents. It can be played in a variety of ways, both by teams or as individuals, but paintball markers are always a necessary component. The Tippmann A5 is used by many as their primary marker. The Tippmann A5 is especially popular due to the wide variety of upgrades available, which allow you to fully customize it.

Instructions

Customizing the Tippmann A5

1. Place the Tacamo K416 Front Sight at the end of the A5's rail. This is the plastic top of the marker. The sight should be placed at the very end of the rail, right above where the barrel protrudes out from the plastic in order to achieve better accuracy. Ensure the sight is level, then bolt in place using the Allen wrench to tighten with the single Allen head screw on the sight. Test the accuracy of the sight, making adjustments as needed.

2. Remove the stock A5 barrel from the marker. Rotate the barrel counterclockwise until it becomes unattached to the marker. Once the stock barrel is unattached, begin securing the Tippmann A-5 Sniper 16-inch Barrel to marker. Rotate the new barrel clockwise into the marker until it is securely attached.

3. Remove the end cap at the end of Tippman A5 marker. Unscrew the two Allen screws which are at the end of the marker in order to remove the end cap. Attach the Tippmann Collapsible Stock to the end of marker. Carefully attach using the Allen wrench and the two screws which held original end piece to the marker.

Have A Nerf War

Nerf wars are a popular activity for children and adults. Nerf guns are plastic, spring-loaded weapons which fire foam darts at either a target or an opposing team. The premise is similar to paintball wars. A flag is placed in each camp and the team which captures the flag of the opposing side wins the "war." Other types of Nerf wars are based on one-on-one combat.

Instructions

1. Find a suitable space to conduct your Nerf war. Forests are often chosen because of the amount of natural "cover" that the trees provide for hiding. Fields are also good, but any other open space will suffice if Nerf wars are not prohibited there.

2. Gather your team. You may already have enough people for two teams. If not, you can advertise for other teams to participate on Nerf forums or in the local papers.

3. Decide on a start time and end time for the war. End times are optional but some wars can be decided by the team which captures or "kills" the most opponents in a certain time. If you decide to compete until one team completely "kills" the other team, it can take a while.

4. Choose two players as "Captains" or "Generals" of each team. The Captains can then either choose members to have on their team, or pick names at random. Each team should wear different-colored vests or jackets so that opponents do not capture their own members by mistake.

5. Set up camp. Each team should have a base camp from which to direct operations and keep their flag. The camps should, if possible, be hidden from the opposing team and placed at a "secret" location.

6. Begin the Nerf war at the designated time by using a klaxon or whistle to alert all members that the war has begun. If you have radios or cell phones, they can also be used.

7. Plan your strategy for how you will "kill" or capture opposing team members and obtain their flag. If you do not use flags you can always capture their base camp instead.

Airsoft Games & Rules

Airsoft games can find players creeping about in the undergrowth or engaging in a prison break.

Airsoft is a combat sport played using special guns that shoot plastic pellets designed not to injure other players. Since the impact of an airsoft pellet is hard to detect on a person, airsoft games generally rely on players being honest and owning up when hit. Airsoft players typically play in teams of two or more people, with games ranging from free-for-all skirmishes to military re-enactment scenarios. Each type of game has its own rules systems.

Terminate

Perhaps the most basic of airsoft games, ‘Terminate’ features only two players, with each stalking each other across a designated play area. The game is timed, and in that allotted time players keep score of how many times each of them has shot the other. The player with the most hits is declared the winner. This game makes for much tension as the players creep about, especially if weapons are limited to pistols.

Prison Break

These games assume an opening scenario in which one team has been captured by the other and is being held in a detention facility of some kind, usually represented by a warded off area or building on-site. The prisoner team finds a chance to escape and must battle past the other team, representing the guards, in a bid for freedom. The prisoners win if they make it out of a specified area, while the guards have the victory if they can successfully re-capture the prisoners. According to the BP Airsoft website, there should be a designated zone in which the prisoners’ weapons are held at the start of the game. This area shouldn’t be too far from where the prisoners begin, since the prisoners will want to start by heading to this area and recovering their guns. Players who are hit must wait out the duration of the game.

Police Shoot-Out

In this scenario, one team will take on the role of law enforcement officers while the other side will act out the part of a criminal gang, such as a bunch of bank robbers. The game is set up to re-create a real-life scenario, for example, the investigation of a pulled-over vehicle, as described by the Krunzy gaming website. Scenarios of this type tend to be over quickly, and, in order to maximize realism, players are often asked to use only airsoft pistols as opposed to airsoft rifles and other weapons.

Infected Horde

This game looks to replicate the feeling of spreading infection seen in horror films featuring monsters such as vampires and zombies. One player, chosen at random, begins the game as such a creature, utilizing a head start on the others to hide somewhere in the designated play area. That player then has the mission of turning all other players into the infected. As noted on the Krunzy website, if a non-infected player is hit by one of an infected player's shots, then the non-infected player swaps sides and becomes one of the infected. If one of the infected players is hit, he is removed from the game. Should either team be entirely wiped out, the other team wins the scenario.

Identify Paintball Guns By Serial Number

A paintball gun in action.

Today, the majority of paintball guns produced are stamped or engraved with a unique serial number. This number is helpful for two important reasons. First, it can be used by manufacturers to help identify guns that are part of a recall. Second, serial numbers on paintball guns can help recover guns that have been lost or stolen.

Instructions

1. Remove the air tank and paintball hopper from the gun.

2. Clean the entire body of the gun, removing any debris or old paint that may be residing on the surface of the gun.

3. Examine the back of the gun's body. The majority of gun models have the serial number stamped or engraved on the upper or lower portion of the body toward the bolt.

4. Search the serial number on a search engine such as Yahoo! or Google. This will allow you to see if anyone online is claiming the marker is stolen.

5. Visit your marker's official company site if you think your marker is part of a recall. Typically, they will release the range of serial numbers of affected guns, and you can compare your number to those posted.

Let Your Kids Play Airsoft Guns

Desert Eagle .44 Magnum Spring Airsoft Gun

Your child goes from playing with Transformers and Legos to suddenly wanting a gun akin to a bb gun. These airsoft guns have the potential to make a quarter-sized mark on your child's skin and could potentially do worse to the eyes. So, how do you learn to trust your child with an airsoft gun? Read the following steps.

Instructions

1. Set the rules. Your child sees the airsoft gun as a toy, but you know that it is potentially a weapon. You must get across to your son or daughter that if they do not follow your rules explicitly regarding the airsoft gun, then they will lose all privileges with it. The following steps will outline rules that you should set.

2. Turn on the safety switch. The safety should be on at all times when the airsoft gun is not being actively used. Let your child know what the consequences will be if you find the gun without the safety set, whether it's taking the gun away for a day or longer.

3. Keep the airsoft gun and airsoft bb's out of reach of smaller children at all times. A toddler or young child could easily hurt themselves with the airsoft gun, or think that the bb's are candy.

*It helps to have a specific location that the airsoft gun will be kept when not being used.

4. Make your child wear goggles or sunglasses with good eye coverage. If you see your child playing airsoft guns without eye coverage, then you should take the gun away. Also, if you see that they are fighting against a child who isn't wearing eye coverage, you should seriously consider not allowing your child to play with them until the other child is properly protected as well.

5. Consider having your child wear clothes that covers the skin well - like jeans or camo. Again, airsoft gun shots can cause welts, so you'll want your child to be well covered.

6. Establish rules about where the airsoft gun can be fired. Your child must be careful not to shoot their gun toward houses, neighbors, animals or cars. There should be serious consequences established if this rule is broken.

*Also, never let your child point the gun at their own face or anyone else's - even if the safety is on and they're wearing eye protection.

7. Establish boundaries of how far out they can play with their airsoft guns. Indicate that they must be within earshot or eyeshot of the house, or take them out for a walk that shows them exactly how far they can go out with their gun.

8. Don't let them remove the orange marker at the tip of the airsoft gun. This identifies the gun as a toy rather than the real counterpart that airsofts are designed to look like.

9. Take a deep breath. It is quite unnerving to let your child play outside without your constant supervision, let alone to let them run around with a toy gun designed to look exactly like an assault rifle, sniper rifle or other serious weapon. Even with rules in place, you will probably never feel completely comfortable with the idea of them with an airsoft gun, so you'll have to decide for yourself if their desire to play with them will outweigh your concerns about it.

Fix The Trigger Of An Airsoft Gun

Fix the Trigger of an Airsoft Gun

Airsoft is a team-based action sport that is similar to paintball and other military style games. It involves the use of replica firearms that shoot 6 mm plastic BBs. However, just like their real-world counterparts, these weapons have a number of problems that will crop up from time to time. One of the most common but most important issues is a non-functioning trigger. This is a relatively easy fix, but an important one to address, as there is nothing worse than a jammed weapon in the middle of a firefight.

Instructions

1. Use a hex wrench to undo the the bolts and locking pins on the body of the gun.

2. Carefully slide the top half of the body off, exposing the innards of the weapon. Be careful not to disturb the gearbox or the seal around the barrel. Knocking these parts out of alignment is a huge headache, and the gun won't function properly if they are disturbed.

3. Locate the trigger unit, above the handle and just below the gearbox. The trigger unit is usually silver.

4. Unscrew the top half of the trigger unit. Again, be careful not to disturb the innards, as it is very easy to do a lot of damage to your weapon due to carelessness when making repairs.

5. Reset the trigger on its pegs, and make sure that the spring is properly connected to the top half of the trigger unit. The proper function of the spring is really important, as the tension against the gearbox is what sends the signal to free the BB.

6. Replace the top plate, and then replace the top half of the gun body. Make sure that all screws are tight and that everything fits back together properly. If it doesn't, something is wrong. Don't force it back into place or you will break the gun.

Install A Pm6 Lucky Top Hat

The Proto Matrix M6 paintball marker, also known as the PM6, has a removable bolt that you can modify with different parts. The top hat has an o-ring on both ends of the piece. You can replace the o-rings with a different pair, such as o-rings made by Lucky, to change how the PM6 operates. The Lucky o-rings increase the efficiency of the PM6 marker.

Instructions

1. Remove the hopper, the air supply and discharge any built-up gas.

2. Unscrew the bolt on the back of the PM6 using a 1/4 inch Allen wrench and pull the bolt out of the marker.

3. Twist the rear cap, which is the longest piece on the outside of the bolt, to unscrew it from the top hat.

4. Unscrew the top hat from the cylinder to remove it from the bolt.

5. Remove the black o-rings from both ends of the top hat using the o-ring remover. You'll remove a total of two o-rings.

6. Slide the Lucky top hat o-rings onto both ends of the top hat.

7. Screw the top hat onto the cylinder, and then screw the rear cap onto the back of the top hat.

8. Rub a small amount of lubricating grease on the Lucky o-ring between the top hat and cylinder, and on the Lucky o-ring between the top hat and rear cap.

9. Slide the bolt back into the PM6 and tighten the bolt with the 1/4 inch Allen wrench.

Douglas Butterfly Restrictor Installation

Full protective gear is necessary to play tackle football.

Coaches and equipment manufacturers have been working together to make football as safe a game as possible for players without taking away the thrill of the rough-and-tumble contact that defines the game. Douglas, a major manufacturer of protective sports equipment, developed a neck collar called a butterfly restrictor, which adds protection against neck injuries to its standard and custom line of shoulder and chest protectors. It is recommended for linemen, linebackers and running backs. You can install a Douglas butterfly restrictor on any shoulder and chest protector, although you may need to drill mounting holes in pads from other manufacturers.

Instructions

1. Slide the restrictor between the plastic arch and cushion of your shoulder and chest protector.

2. Put the protector on, and position the restrictor so that it fits you properly and is comfortable for you.

3. Mark your chosen position for the restrictor before you take off your protector.

4. Remove your protector, and position the butterfly restrictor according to your markings. Skip to Step 6 if your protector is not made by Douglas or does not have mounting holes

5. Line up the mounting holes on the front of your Douglas protector with the holes of the rear mounting flange of your butterfly restrictor mounting strap. Skip to Step 7

Laws For Air Guns

Air guns such as BB guns and pellet guns are unregulated on the federal level.

Air guns, guns that fire BBs or pellets using the force of compressed gas aren't regulated by federal agencies like traditional firearms are. Because of this, the laws in regard to air guns vary widely from state to state, although the overwhelming majority of states only loosely regulate air gun use and possession.

Federal Legislation

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms regulates the sale and trade of firearms, though it defines a firearm as a weapon that uses the explosive force from the detonation of gunpowder as the means to propel a projectile. Air guns don't use gunpowder to fire pellets and BBs, so they're outside the scope of federal regulation. Because of this definition, most states are left to enforce air gun laws as they see fit.

Air Travel and Air Guns

The Transportation Security Administration bans the carry-on possession of air guns on all flights. This ban applies not only to BB and pellet guns, but also to paintball and AirSoft weapons. Travelers are permitted to travel with air guns, as long as they're in checked luggage and inaccessible during flight.

Postage and Air Guns

The United States Postal Service bans mailing compressed gas canisters unless they are empty, so air guns that use cartridges as propulsion may not be mailed. BB and pellet guns that fire with a pump action and do not contain compressed gas may be mailed.

State Laws

Many states regulate the possession and use of air guns. While regulations vary from state to state, common restrictions include age restrictions that bar anyone under the age of 16 to 21 from purchasing air guns. Other restrictions may prohibit the use of guns on public property, the possession of guns on public property and the transport of guns that aren't inside a case or an otherwise inaccessible location.

Municipal Laws

In states where air guns are largely unregulated, many large cities restrict the use of air guns within the city. Cities such as New York, Chicago and Philadelphia all restrict the unregulated possession and use of air guns anywhere inside city limits other than at an approved firing range or other facility. In these municipalities, air guns may need to be transported in a locked case.

Fix An Airsoft Gearbox

An airsoft gun can mimic a real weapon.

Airsoft guns are popular because they mimic real weapons in the way they load and fire. A semi-automatic airsoft gun uses a gearbox to enable rapid fire capabilities. Repeated firing over time can cause the gearbox to weaken and work erratically. You can fix the gearbox by reinforcing its construction, although the gearbox plate must first be removed from the gun. You will also need a high-intensity welding alloy from a welding shop supply store and experience in using a Butane torch.

Instructions

1. Place newspaper down on a work surface. Place the gearbox plate down on the newspaper with the protruding arm at the lower bottom facing left.

2. Sandpaper the gearbox in the protruding arm with the rough grit sandpaper. Blow off the gearbox with compressed air and wipe the exposed side with the rough clean cloth.

3. Place the top jaw of the C-clamp against a back corner edge on the gearbox. Twist the bottom of the C-clamp to close the top and bottom jaws.

4. Apply flux liberally to the gearbox with the flux rod.

5. Ignite the Butane torch using the attached self-start button. Aim the torch at the gearbox and move it back and forth and up and down around the gearbox. Continue until the flux begins to change color and turn brown.

6. Remove the high intensity welding alloy rod from its container.

7. Hold the tip of the alloy rod against the gearbox. Continue moving the Butane torch around the gearbox so that it melts the alloy and deposits it onto the gearbox. Follow the contours of the gearbox with the tip of the alloy rod as it continues to melt.

8. Remove the rod from the gearbox when the gearbox has been completely covered with alloy.

9. Extinguish the flame of the Butane torch by pressing the "off" button.

10. Insert the portable drill into the holes on the gearbox. Move the drill around to smooth down the sides inside of the holes.

11. Blow off the gearbox plate with the compressed air. The plate can now be reassembled into the gun.

Compare Paintball Guns

A paintball gun can come in any of three basic types: pump action, mechanical semi-automatic and electric semi-automatic. While all three use similar CO2 firing mechanisms, there are distinct advantages and disadvantages to each.

Mechanical Semi-Automatic

Most entry level paintball guns use mechanical semi-automatic action, which fires one round each time the trigger is pulled. These guns are durable, reliable and inexpensive in comparison to their electric counterparts. If you've rented a paintball gun at a court or field of play, it was probably a mechanical semi-automatic.

Pump Action and Electric Semi-Automatic

Pump action paintballs must be pumped by hand to put a round into the firing position. They are slower than automatics and hold only 10 rounds but have the advantage of quiet firing and greater gas efficiency. In electric semi-automatics, the trigger is just an electrical switch as opposed to a mechanical release valve. The trigger pulls much more easily, making for faster shooting and a three-round burst option. On the downside, however, the switch relies on battery power, which could run out mid-game if the operator isn't cautious.

Attatchments

When shopping for a paintball gun it may be wise to consider purchasing some attachments. A hopper, used by many serious players, attaches to the top of the gun and can increase ammunition capacity to 140 rounds. A squeegee, too, is considered a must-have by many players. If a round breaks in the chamber, the squeegee is by far the fastest way to clean your marker and prevent further jams. Finally, a butt plate may be the best way to make carrying and firing your paintball gun a more comfortable and sustainable experience. The butt plate attaches to the CO2 cartridge and simulates the stock of a rifle.

What Is A Casino Marker

Casino markers provide patrons with lines of credit that allow easy access to large sums of cash.

Casino markers are lines of credit that allow high-level gambling patrons easy access to large sums of cash. Candidates for a marker must apply to the casino credit department where the patron's financial worthiness is examined and final line of credit determined. Casino markers are short-term, interest-free loans. However, repayment must be prompt or the patron faces high interest fees and possible criminal charges.

Function

Casino markers allow patrons the ability to access a line of interest-free credit for quick and easy access to large sums of cash. Many gamblers prefer taking cash from a marker as a convenient and attractive alternative to carrying large sums of money in and out of a casino.

Benefits

Casino patrons use markers to avoid paying fees for automatic teller machine and credit card cash advances. The borrowed money is interest free and payment isn't due for 15 days to 30 days, depending on the amount and the casino's credit policy. Markers generally start at $500 and rise at the casino's discretion.

Time Frame

Patrons seeking a credit line must fill out an application requiring financial and banking information that is provided to credit card companies. Patrons have the ability to submit the information online or via mail and should do so approximately two weeks before their visit to the casino. Casino staff determines the patron's credit risk, examines the patron's ability to pay and approves the credit line amount. The decision takes about one week.

Features

Once approved for casino markers, patrons inform staff of their intention to use the credit line when they are seated at a table game. The table games supervisor accesses the patron's information via computer and fills out the proper paperwork. The patron signs the paperwork and is given the appropriate amount of credit in chips. A receipt is given to the patron to use when paying off the marker. It is customary for patrons to pay back the marker before leaving the casino if they have enjoyed a winning session.

Misconceptions

Many patrons believe obtaining casino credit is easy, particularly in Las Vegas. However, according to gaming expert Frank Scoblete, casinos in Atlantic City require in-depth financial information including a patron's net worth. Many people also believe a marker is totally interest-free. But, interest charges of 18 percent and higher are charged if full payment is not received within the agreed time frame.

Warning

Failure to pay a casino marker is a serious offense. In major gambling cities, such as Las Vegas and Atlantic City, failure to pay markers is considered a felony. Patrons who cannot pay markers within the specified time frame should contact the casino credit department. The casino will work with the patron to fashion a payment plan, with interest charges, rather than file criminal charges.

Dangers Of The Power Fusion Hybrid Paintball Gun

There are some dangerous points about the Dangerous Power Fusion.

The hybrid Dangerous Power Fusion paintball gun is advertised as a high-quality paintball gun. However, there are some dangers of this particular model, as well as some weaknesses that potential users should be be aware of if they're going to be using the hybrid model.

Over-Size Trigger Guard

One of the potential hazards of this paintball gun is the over-size trigger guard. While many models have these overly large trigger guards, they can create an awkward grip on the gun if you're not careful. When you're running, rolling and dodging paintballs from the other team, this too-big trigger guard can lead to a slipped grip at best, or if you land incorrectly, then several strained or even broken fingers if the frame doesn't give out first.

Electric Power

The Power Fusion gun runs off of a 9-volt battery and powers a variety of devices on the gun such as a laser targeting system. While the dangers of the gun causing the user physical harm is very low with a 9-volt battery, there is a danger that the elements can cause damage to a paintball gun that works off of electricity. If the case is cracked, or if all seals aren't tight and it begins to rain, you could short out connections in your gun, rendering an expensive piece of equipment useless until repaired.

Power Rating

Despite the name, the Dangerous Power Fusion paintball gun is rated as a relatively low-powered gun that runs off of nitrogen and compressed air. If you attempt to ramp up the compression power in the gun to get more meters per second out of the barrel, then you may have some problems. Lightweight and compact, the fusion hybrid paintball gun isn't meant to be overclocked that way. This is a potential problem for those who like to customize their guns.

Remove Spray Paint From Wood Fence

Whether you have inherited a fence that has been covered with spray paint, or you accidentally sprayed your wood fence while involved in another project, there are a number of ways to remove it. Untreated wood will weather, so you'll want to decide first if you need to bring the wood to its natural surface. Think about the end result you want before tackling the job. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Sand the wood to bring it down to its natural state. If the spray paint is spotty, you will probably have to sand the entire fence so that it will be even. Wood left untreated will weather and you'll see there you sanded if you don't do the whole thing.

2. Use a palm sander or orbital sander if you have a large area to sand. The fence should be stable enough for you to apply pressure and thick enough to withstand the loss of a layer of the wood to the sanding. You also may have to change the paper on the sander more often as the spray paint will clog the rough paper. Use sheets of sandpaper to get paint off inside of posts.

3. Paint over the entire wood fence if it is older and you don't require a natural wood look. This method is the easiest and most efficient way to remove the awkward spray paint. Use an outdoor weather primer before you apply the final coat of wood house paint to the fence.

4. Rub spray painted pictures, graffiti or over spray with denatured alcohol or lacquer thinner. Apply the chemical to a rag and rub the area that has been painted. This method is best for spot removal and for paint that has not become too embedded in the wood grain.

5. Purchase a special eco-friendly paint remover that is applied and washed off after sitting for a while. Graffitisolutions.com carries a variety of solutions for paint removal from all kinds of surfaces, including wood fences.

Install A Qev For A Smart Parts Ion

A quick-exhaust valve improves the rate of fire for electro-pneumatic paintball markers.

A quick-exhaust valve (QEV) is an aftermarket upgrade for the Smart Parts Ion paintball marker. In electro-pneumatic markers, compressed air propels the paintballs and also drives the bolt back to the rear position and holds it there as the next paintball is fed to the chamber. To release the bolt to move forward, chamber and fire the next paintball, the propellant gas must be exhausted through a pneumatic hose and electronic solenoid. Installation of a QEV provides a faster, more direct exhaust path for the gas. This speeds up bolt-cycling time, resulting in a higher rate of fire.

Instructions

1. Unload the paintball marker and remove the compressed-air tank.

2. Point the marker in a safe direction and pull the trigger several times to release any residual pressure.

3. Remove the two screws in the pistol-grip frame and the flatcap screw above them in the body of the marker. Separate the pistol-grip halves.

4. Locate the banjo bolt fitting on the shorter of the two hoses that are attached to the solenoid valve. Remove the hose. Trim 1/4-inch off the end of the hose with the pocketknife. Unscrew and remove the banjo bolt fitting from the body.

5. Screw the QEV into the body in place of the removed banjo bolt fitting. Attach the hose to the barbed intake of the QEV.

6. Reassemble the marker.

Create Your Own Automotive Uniform Patches

Automotive repair shops often require technicians and mechanics to wear customized uniforms. This gives customers a sense of professionalism and makes a statement that each employee has been properly trained. Patches are useful in this manner, as certifications can be displayed on a technician or mechanic's uniform. Patches also display the company's name and logo, and sometimes denote an employee's title or position.

Instructions

1. Find a custom embroidery. There are many choices online that allow you to choose from pre-designed templates while giving you the flexibility to customize the design and color scheme. Among them are Embroidery Patches, Patches 4 Less, Patch Superstore, and Patches Pro. You also may look in a local phone book for custom embroideries near you.

2. Choose a color scheme. The color scheme appears on both the uniform itself and the patches. It is best to stay away from light colors such as white to avoid unsightly smudging and smearing. Green, red, gray and blue often are used for this reason.

3. Create a logo or use a template for the patch.

4. Upload a rendering of your custom logo or send a picture of your company logo to the embroidery. In most instances, businesses without logos may choose one from a template provided by the embroidery.

Splatter Abstract Artwork

Sometimes there seems to be no rhyme or reason to abstract art, at least to the casual observer. Jackson Pollock, one of the originators of this type of liquid paint art, said it made him feel "in the painting" when he added splatters from all four sides of his canvas. This technique is fun for adults as well as children and sometimes produces surprisingly interesting results.

Instructions

Splatter Abstract Artwork

1. Change into old clothes that you don't mind ruining with paint. Choose a clear place outdoors away from houses, cars, cement walk and driveways.

2. Tack a large piece of heavy paper or canvas to a tree, or if you prefer, to the ground.

3. Thin the paint with water if it is too thick. Dip a paint brush into the liquid paint and sling it back and forth in front of the paper. Use up-and-down and side-to-side motions with arm extended. You may also use a spoon to dip into the paint and drip or splatter the paint onto the canvas.

4. Use a stiff brush, such as a vegetable brush, to make tiny splatters. Dip the ends of the bristles into the paint. Extend your hand toward the paper, and with your thumb, rub over the ends of the bristles from the front of the brush back toward you, letting them go rapidly as they splatter tiny droplets of paint onto the paper.

5. Dip a 10-inch piece of cotton string in the paint and sling it onto the paper. It will leave interesting lines with tiny splatters on either side.

Making a potato gun is practically a right of passage for some kids. It can however be very dangerous and caution must be taken during construction to build a relatively safe potato gun.

Instructions

1. Purchase thick-walled plastic pipe and fittings from your local hardware store in the following dimensions: 2 feet of 3 inch pipe, 4 feet of 1 1/2 inch pipe, a 3 inch to 1 1/2 inch reducer fitting and a 3 inch plastic pipe end cap that unscrews.

2. Remove a grill igniter from an old grill.

3. Use pipe glue and assemble the end cap onto one end of the 3 inch pipe, and the reducer on the other end. Let dry.

4. Connect and glue the 1 1/2 inch pipe to the reducer.

5. Drill two screws into the back of the 3 inch pipe about 3 inches from the end cap. Position the screws so that they come from both sides of the potato gun chamber and are about 1/2 inch apart inside the chamber.

6. Attach the 16 gauge wires to the grill igniter wires on one end and one to each screw on the other end. Now try looking inside the gun and making sure when you click the igniter you get a big spark between the screws. If not, reposition them.

7. Cut a potato to fit tightly into the barrel and insert it all the way down the barrel. Spray hairspray into the larger chamber, screw the lid tightly shut and click the igniter and watch the potato fly!

The Advantages Of Firearms Training

Learning to use a gun safely is important for everyone who owns one.

People use firearms for various reasons, including self-defense, in combat situations and for recreational target shooting. For any type of firearm use, it's important to have the proper training. Firearms training, which can include both classroom instruction and hands-on guidance has many important advantages, not the least of which is being able to use a gun safely.

Safety

Safety is the biggest advantage of firearms training. Everyone who learns use a gun becomes less likely to mishandle it or fire it accidentally. Instruction reduces the likelihood of a tragic accident. Most firearms training courses include safety as a top priority, teaching students handle, clean, load and discharge a firearm in the proper fashion. Al types of gun owners can benefit from basic safety training, even if they never plan to use their gun except for self-defense.

Accuracy

Another significant advantage of firearm training is improved accuracy. By learning stand while shooting, and aim a pistol or rifle, students give themselves the best chance to hit their intended targets.

This plays into safety by reducing the chance of errant shots. But accuracy is also important for recreational shooters, who must continually refine their accuracy for better performance. In a military context, accurate shooting can mean the difference between life and death.

Career Opportunities

For certain careers, including military positions, law enforcement and private security jobs, having a certain level of firearms training may be essential for employment. Police officers and military personnel may be required to complete firearms training on a regular basis to keep their skills sharp. For private security personnel, having firearms training and the proper local permits may open the door to career advancement or additional employment opportunities at a higher wage.

Clean A Spring Airsoft Gun

Cleaning a gun doesn't have to be hard.

The spring-powered Airsoft recreational gun uses the elastic potential energy of a spring to launch pellets. The Airsoft gun is safe because it cannot fire a shot, like electric or gas-powered Airsoft guns. Keeping spring Airsoft guns clean ensure they perform with greater accuracy and last longer.

Instructions

1. Clean the exterior of the spring gun. Use a soft non-abrasive cloth dipped in silicone-based cleaner to wipe the exterior clean. You can also use cotton swabs to remove stubborn grit that clings to the exterior of the gun.

2. Take the magazine out of the gun and clean with a cloth dipped in silicone-based cleaner. Put a few drops of oil on the moving bits of the magazine that you can reach. Replace the clean magazine.

3. Clean the barrel of the gun. Spray a cleaning pad or cotton wool with silicone spray and attach it to the cleaning rod. Gently push the rod into the barrel to clean the barrel. Pushing too hard may damage some of the springs that make up the mechanism. Repeat the process two or three times using a new cleaning patch or fresh cotton wool each time. When the patch or cotton wool comes out clean, the barrel is clean.

4. Tighten any loose screws with the screwdriver.

What Is The Advantage Of Nitrogen For Car Tires

The dry rot on the surface of this tire is indicative of what is happening inside.

Before paying $40 a piece to fill your car's tires with nitrogen, it might be best to understand what's really happening. The air around you is already 79 percent nitrogen, according to TireFactory.net, but squeezing that last bit of oxygen and water vapor out can have some surprising advantages.

Principle

Nitrogen atoms are physically larger than oxygen atoms. Small oxygen atoms have an easier time of squeezing between the tire's molecular matrix, causing the tire to lose air pressure over time.

Pressure Variation

The moisture content of normal air can cause it to expand under high temperatures and contract when cold. This can cause poor traction during winter and excess tire wear during summer.

Fuel Economy

One proposed benefit for nitrogen filling that having the proper air pressure at all times can net gains in fuel economy by reduced rolling resistance.

Tire Longevity

Pressurized oxygen has a way of eating (oxidizing, dry-rotting) rubber. Eliminating oxygen from the air is said to reduce this internal dry-rotting.

Applications

Vehicles that spend a lot of time sitting in storage can probably stand to benefit from the inertness of nitrogen gas, which helps to maintain the tire (especially in humid conditions).

Make Seminole Blowguns

Bamboo makes the best blowgun barrel.

The Native American Seminole tribe, originally from Florida, is believed to have traditionally used blowguns to hunt birds. Not much is known about their blowguns, beyond the fact that they were made out of what is commonly known as switch cane or giant cane (Arundinaria gigantea), a species of bamboo-like grass native to the area. Blowguns are easy to make--you can construct your own out of bamboo and have a lethal weapon similar to what the Seminoles used many years ago.

Instructions

1. Cut a length of bamboo between 7 and 9 feet in length. The stalk should be about 0.60 caliber (19/32 inch) in diameter--you get historical-accuracy bonus points if it's genuine switch cane. One end will be slightly wider than the other--this will be the end you blow into.

2. Look along the length of the bamboo to make sure it's perfectly straight. If not, note where the bent places are and hold one of them over an open heat source (traditionally a bed of coals). Bend the crooked part straight and hold it in place until it cools. Repeat until the entire length of the pipe is straight.

3. Heat one end of a metal rod and use it to burn out the septums, or node-ends. Bamboo septums are very thin, so this should not be difficult, but you need to be careful to remove each segmental divider entirely.

4. Make darts out of bamboo skewers or hardwood dowels, sharpened at one end. These darts can traditionally be anywhere from 10 to 22 inches in length. Tie fluffy rabbit fur or layers of dried thistledown along the rearmost 4 inches of the shaft, for the fletching. This should fit snugly into the barrel of the blowgun.

5. Insert a dart into the larger end of the blowgun to fire it. Push it in until the fletching is just flush with the blown end of the pipe. Hold the blowgun with both hands, resting your elbows against your chest. Aim carefully and blow a short, sharp blast to launch the dart.
