Make A Pistol Case

With prices for firearm accessories getting higher as the demand rises for guns, an economical alternative to paying top dollar for a gun case is making your own. A basic knowledge of sewing is needed to make a pistol case. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Buy the heavy duty canvas fabric in a size that is large enough to fold over your pistol by 2 inches all the way around. A good way to measure this is to place your pistol on a piece of paper, outline it and mark 2 inches farther all the way around so that you have a larger image of your pistol. Go to a marine or heavy duty fabric supply store with the outline and purchase fabric large enough to be able to fold over the outline once. Also purchase a length of heavy duty zipper that will extend along the longest part of your outline, usually the straight line from the tip of the muzzle to the bottom of the grips. You should be able to purchase the faux shearling here as well.

2. Using a piece of chalk, make the outline of your gun plus the 2-inch extended line on the canvas. Using your fabric cutters, cut the new outline. Cut two pieces of the shearling as well. It will need to be the same size as your pistol cut out.

3. Sew the faux shearling to what will become the inside of the pistol case with the canvas thread. On the longest side, attach one side of the zipper. Now, sew the second outline to the zipper. Place the two outline halves together and sew them, going over the edges twice. Trim away any excess.

4. Place your pistol inside and zipper it up. Make sure it is fairly snug.

Michigan Pellet Gun Laws

The state of Michigan regards pellet guns as firearms.

Although pellet (also called airsoft) guns are typically used for sport target shooting rather than hunting, the state of Michigan regards all pellet guns and pistols as firearms. As such, pellet gun owners are subject to the same laws and regulations that apply to shotguns, rifles, automatic weapons and handguns. This includes laws regulating anyone who wishes to be licensed to carry a concealed firearm.

Pellet Guns in Schools

A student bringing a pellet gun onto school grounds must be expelled under Michigan law. The American Academy of Pediatrics stresses that "nonpowder" guns, which include BB guns, paintball guns and pellet guns, can cause serious injury and even death.

Concealed Carry Weapons Law

Michigan's Concealed Carry Weapons law (CCW) mandates that the holder must have a state-issued permit to carry any firearm, including a pellet gun or pistol, under 30 inches in length. To get this permit you must be over 21 years old and with no felonies on your record. Other requirements include a sound mental state, U.S. citizenship and Michigan residency.

Using and Transporting a Pellet Gun

Michigan law prohibits "discharging a firearm within a public right-of-way, in cemeteries, or on farm property without the consent of the farm's owner," according to Michigan in Brief, a Michigan Public Policy Initiative website. You may transport an unloaded pellet gun in your vehicle as long as it's for a lawful purpose and not accessible to vehicle occupants, and use it on your own property or business. While firearms are illegal on school property, a parent or guardian picking up or dropping off a child at school may have a pellet gun in the vehicle.

Where Pellet Guns Are Prohibited

Michigan law states that firearms are prohibited from schools or day care centers, sports arenas, casinos, any entertainment facility with a capacity over 2,500 people, establishments serving alcohol, airports, hospitals and courtrooms. They are prohibited in places of worship unless the presiding authorities have given permission.

Use Night Vision To Find A Night Vision User

Night vision googles allow you to see in a dark forest at night.

Night vision goggles and other devices are commonly used in military, hunting and other overnight pastimes, allowing the user of the device to see as though the lighting conditions in the area were almost as favorable as that of day. Locating another night vision user is a useful skill in competitive endeavors such as paintball or warfare, giving you the leg up on your competition.

Instructions

1. Turn on the night vision goggles, binoculars or other devices.

2. Position yourself in an area where you think the other night vision user might pass by, such as at the edge of a clearing along a forest trail.

3. Position yourself in such a way that you will be mostly camouflaged, such as by lying in or under bushes, behind trees or near any other form of natural concealment.

4. Survey your surroundings with the night vision device, looking for the telltale signs of another night vision user, someone with a mask over his eyes or someone constantly holding a telescope or binoculars to his face at night.

Paintball Gun Silencer Instructions

A paintball gun is not very effective if the "enemy" can hear the paintball being shot and duck out of the way. You can make a paintball silencer, or "suppressor" as it is more correctly called, that will muffle the sound of the paintball being fired. You will need a few supplies from a hardware store as well as items commonly found in most households. Get adult supervision in making your paintball silencer if you are underage, since a power tool must be used.

Instructions

1. Place a sheet of newspaper on a work surface to protect the surface. Place the PVC pipe horizontally on the newspaper. Drill a hole a half-inch from one end into the side of the PVC pipe with the portable drill. Drill another hole a quarter inch-from the first with the portable drill. Continue drilling holes until you reach the other side.

2. Rotate the PVC pipe a quarter-turn from you. Drill holes in the PVC pipe in the same manner as before. Rotate the PVC pipe two more times and drill holes.

3. Push the shotgun brush back and forth through the PVC pipe to even out the inside. Spend 10 minutes pushing the shotgun brush back and forth through the PVC pipe.

4. Place the PVC pipe into the sediment filter.

5. Screw the PVC pipe couplers onto each end of the PVC pipe to secure the pipe inside the sediment filter.

6. Place the tip of the barrel into one of the PVC pipe couplers. Wrap duct tape three or four times around the tip of the barrel and the PVC pipe coupler.

Cool Places For 10yearolds' Birthday Parties

Ten-year-olds can celebrate their birthdays challenging friends to a go-kart race.

According to the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, it is normal for children between the ages of 9 and 10 to engage in active play and have interest in team games and in developing strength, skill and speed. Parents can find hundreds of places, most of which offer birthday party packages, where 10-year-olds can celebrate their birthday and do all these things with their friends. Does this Spark an idea?

Family Fun Center

Probably one of the coolest places for 10-year-olds to have a birthday party is in a family fun center. A family fun center is a cool place to celebrate your child's birthday because the center offers a wide range of activities for kids. Ten-year-olds won't be bored because of the wide variety of activities available. Depending on the center, activities usually include playing arcade games, bowling and miniature golf; riding go-karts and bumper cars; and going in the batting cages or climbing a rock-climbing wall.

Skating Rink

Whether your 10-year-old wants to have an ice-skating or roller skating party, a skating rink is a cool place for a birthday. You can throw your child a birthday party in an indoor or outdoor ice-skating rink or in an indoor roller skating rink. A skating rink is an especially cool place to celebrate birthdays when it's in a rink where the kids can skate during special 1980s music, disco music or electro music themed days or nights. Additionally, ice skating is a low-impact aerobic exercise so kids not only have a good time, but get some exercise as well.

Laser Tag Center

Laser tag is a game that's similar to paintball in the sense that you have to seek out your "enemies." However, instead of using a paintball gun, kids wear a vest that's targeted with an infrared-emitting gun. Having a birthday party in a laser tag center is cool because laser tag is a fast-paced, action-packed game that's played in a dark, usually futuristic-themed environment. Additionally, kids get to see statistics of how well they did after the game, such as the number of hits they made and high scores.

Paintball Arena

Celebrate your child's 10th birthday in an indoor or outdoor paintball arena. A paintball arena is a cool place for a 10-year-old to celebrate his or her birthday because usually, they can choose to play different kinds of action-packed and exciting paintball games. Some of these games are total elimination, speedball, defend the fort and capture the flag. Additionally, kids don't need to have their own equipment such as safety gear and guns since these are provided for use during game play.

Use Hybrid Power

Hypermiling has more in common with race driving than you might think.

Hybrid power has been a polarizing point in the automotive community for more than a decade. Hybrid technology theoretically should offer levels of efficiency unmatched by any gasoline engine on its own, but it often doesn't. When the BBC's "Top Gear" program tested hybrid tech, they found that a Toyota Prius driven around a racetrack at race speeds got 2 mpg worse economy than a 400-horsepower BMW M3 driven at the same speeds. The lesson: Hybrid technology can offer returns in efficiency only if the driver knows exploit the powertrain's inherent strength while avoiding its weaknesses.

Instructions

1. Accelerate gently to your cruising speed, never using more of the throttle than you would need to maintain about 60 mph under cruise. This comes to about 50 percent throttle (half of the throttle pedal's travel) on most hybrids, but the idea is to keep the car running on pure electric power as much of the time as possible. The electric motor converts stored energy to movement with about 80 percent efficiency; the gas motor will do so at less than 35 percent efficiency.

2. Maintain momentum at all costs. Momentum equals energy expended to create movement, which translates to fuel burned and dollars spent. Brake as little as possible. Hybrids use regenerative braking to recharge their batteries, but regenerative braking will not recapture more than 50 percent of the energy expended to accelerate, resulting in a net energy loss of at least 50 percent under even the best conditions.

3. Increase your following distance (distance to the car ahead of you) to reduce the number of times you must respond to their movements by braking. Coasting in response to changes in speed requirements is far more efficient that hitting the brakes. Set your cruise control no higher than 55 mph; you'll lose about one mpg for every mile per hour over that, due to aerodynamic drag.

4. Use a racing style out-in-out technique to corner. When approaching a corner, swing as far away from the corner as possible while staying in your lane. Identify the apex of the corner, which is just past the center-point of its inside arc. Brake only as much as you need to in order to turn in and clip that apex point. Once you pass the apex, coast back to the outer part of that lane in a mirror image of your entry arc. Do not get back on the accelerator until you're almost completely straightened out, or you'll lose efficiency through excess lateral tire friction. This "fast-in-slow-out" technique is a bit backward from typical racing methodology (which is slow-in-fast-out), but will benefit you more where fuel economy is concerned since the lateral forces are absorbed during braking and coasting rather than during acceleration.

5. Brake while driving down steep hills, but coast down gentle slopes; try to keep your downhill braking speed just below the gas engine's engagement speed. This will put the regenerative braking motor at its maximum rpm for the greatest amount of battery recharge without wasting the braking friction with the gas engine. Allow the regenerative braking motor to absorb as much of the braking force as possible to get the highest recharge.

Paint An Hk91

Old guns can have their stocks refinished by utilizing a few materials.

Gun manufacturer Heckler and Koch introduced a civilian semi -automatic version of its popular G3 assault rifle in the 1970's. It comes in both .308 Winchester and 7.62 millimeter caliber versions, but they basically look the same. Its synthetic stock can be refinished to match just about any need or style preference, with a little hard work and a few different painting materials.

Instructions

1. Disassemble the gun barrel and the trigger mechanism from the HK 91's stock, according to manufacturer's instructions. Remove the synthetic hand grip from the bottom the handle. Clean and oil the metal parts, and set them in a safe place.

2. Sand the synthetic stock parts and the hand grip, lightly, removing any surface scratches and ridges where the synthetic stock was fused together. Fill in any deep scratches or gouges using the filler, and allow this material to set completely before sanding these areas smooth.

3. Clean the synthetic stock parts with a clean cloth and rubbing alcohol. Remove all dust or any other debris. Mask off the barrel bedding area and the butt plate to keep paint from getting on these areas.

4. Mix, thoroughly, the two-part epoxy primer, according to directions. Apply a thin coat to the gun's stocks and hand grip, taking care not to allow runs or drips. Let this dry, and lightly sand it smooth. Apply a second and/or third coat as necessary, lightly sanding if needed, to give the stock a good base for the paint. Allow these coats to dry before proceeding.

5. Apply a thin coat of the synthetic stock paint, allow it to dry and lightly sand it smooth. Apply a second and/or third coat if necessary, lightly sanding if needed, to give the stock a good coat of paint. Allow these coats to dry before proceeding.

6. Apply a light coat of automotive clear coat to the synthetic pieces, allow it to dry and lightly sand it smooth. Apply more coats of the clear coat, lightly sanding, as necessary, to give the stock a good clear coat to protect the finish. Allow these coats to dry before reassembling the gun.

The Best Allaround Lens Type For Goggles

Orange goggles are quite popular.

Red, blue, pink, orange...ski goggles come in pretty much every color of the rainbow. Not every color is ideal for every rider, so you'll want to spend time considering which color is right--and not just which color you think looks best on your face. Getting the optimal lens tint will give you the best visibility. Better visibility is better skiing.

Identify Conditions

The most important factor in determining lens color is the weather and light conditions that you'll be experiencing. That's really why there are so many lens colors on the market today. Conditions vary greatly by geographic area and resort as well as by day; some resorts naturally experience more sunshine during the winter.

Think about the last season that you spent skiing or snowboarding and consider whether days were typically bright and sunny or dark and snowy. If you've never skied, ask some of your friends or locals at the areas where you'll be skiing. Also, think about your preferences. Do you only go skiing when it's dumping snow or do you prefer the day after, when the storm clouds have given way to sunny skies?

Choose a Lens Color

With a better grasp of typical light conditions, you can choose the optimal lens color. If conditions are particularly bright, get darker lenses that offer a low-visibility light transmission (VLT). Black and brown lenses are good. For overcast conditions, you'll want a lighter lens that increases visual contrast in the snow. Yellow, rose and amber lenses are good at maximizing visibility in low-light conditions. If you'll be doing a lot of night skiing or boarding, consider purchasing goggles with a clear lens, which will deliver the best visibility in dark, artificially lit conditions.

Go Orange

Take a look around a ski resort on any busy weekend, and you'll probably see many people with orange goggles. These have long been a standard in the industry, as they're a versatile lens that delivers good visibility in a range of conditions. They're best in low to medium conditions, providing good protection for variable days or trips. If you can only afford a single lens, consider getting orange lenses, which could be considered the best all-around lens.

Carry Multiple Tints

The truth is there is no magic bullet when it comes to the "best" goggle lens. It really depends upon the conditions of the day, and even if you get the best lens for the majority of the season, there will be days when it will be less than optimal. The best way to prepare is to have multiple tints.

Photochromic lenses are an intuitive option that change colors automatically based on light conditions. In brighter conditions, they darken to let less light, in and in darker conditions, they lighten to let more light in.

The more traditional option is buying multiple goggles or multiple lenses. The latter option is particularly good because you can carry the extra lenses in your jacket to prepare for fast-moving mountain weather. Frameless goggles allow for quick, easy lens swapping.

Slide Headfirst In Baseball

Sliding headfirst is the quickest way for a base runner to get to a base, particularly when trying to steal second base. The headfirst slide can also be dangerous, if done incorrectly. It's worth taking the time to teach and practice this baseball fundamental.

Instructions

1. Run as fast as you can toward the base. When you are about 7 or 8 feet from the base, lower your body and spring off your back legs.

2. Extend your arms toward the base. Make sure that your chest, forearms and thighs hit the ground at the same time. Spread the force of the slide over a large area of your body to reduce the shock when you hit the ground.

3. Keep your head up as you reach for the base.

4. Slide away from the tag. At second base, slide to the inside of the base and tag with your left hand if the shortstop takes the throw. If the second baseman takes the throw, slide to the outside, tagging the base with your right hand.

5. Aim for the far corner of the outfield side of the base when returning to first base on a pick-off attempt. Touch the base with the right hand.

6. Move toward the far corner of the base on the foul side when returning to third base on a pick-off attempt. Tag with the right hand.

Get Military Training Playing Laser Tag

Laser tag was invented by the U.S. military in the 1980s as a simulated training program that increased personal safety and conserved ammunition. While the sport has been popularized for the mainstream public, it still reflects its combat origins. It is important to note that the original purpose was to teach spontaneous problem solving, which many players value today. Find out why so many people are playing combat-style laser tag.

Instructions

Organize a Do-It-Yourself Laser Tag Boot Camp

1. Recruit a facilitator who will control the game software, provide game starts and stops, and perform other field-marshal tasks. Reloading weapons with ammunition or health points is one additional function.

2. Select a game format among the software offerings, such as Capture the Flag or VIP Escort.

3. Set up obstacles and create rules for overcoming them, such as, "Cross all standing water" or "Crawl under any wire barricades."

4. Pay special attention to marksmanship. Game software will give precise read-outs on statistics, such as ratio of hits to trigger pulls, or the ID and number of tags on each of your victims.

Join a Professional Military Laser Tag Program

5. Purchase a group package from an outdoor laser tag park that offers combat simulation. These may be hosted or not, and usually involve at least eight participants to form two evenly numbered teams.

6. Enjoy graduated training that builds on the skill sets of each game. Progressive levels of difficulty and restrictions help to hone critical thinking and problem solving.

7. Train in a specialized uniform or protective clothing to get experience in moving or in waiting for long periods of time in uncomfortable or unfamiliar gear.

Use Co2 With An Air Paintball Gun

Paintball guns fire paint balls by means of a bolt that pushes the round, or paint ball, forward from the firing chamber. This firing bolt can be powered by either compressed air, nitrogen gas or carbon dioxide (CO2), which is stored in tanks that usually attach to the rear of the gun above the pistol grip and below the hopper. Smaller carbon dioxide cartridges are available that make the gun lighter and more maneuverable, but these cartridges provide power for only about 10 shots. To gain the advantage of being able to fire hundreds of shots per cartridge, you can use a compressed air tank filled with carbon dioxide.

Instructions

1. Wait until the tank on the gun is completely empty. Removing a tank with carbon dioxide still in it is wasteful and can be a tricky procedure.

2. Remove the hopper or drain it of paint balls. Do not recharge the paint ball gun while it is still loaded.

3. Discharge any remaining paint balls by pulling the trigger while the old tank is still attached. Any balls that slipped into the firing chamber will be fired, emptying the gun completely.

4. Detach the empty tank by screwing counterclockwise, and replace it with a full carbon dioxide tank, screwing it clockwise into place. Tighten until it is snug and secure, but do not overtighten, which can strip the threading and ruin your seal.

5. Use the paint ball gun for several hundred shots, powering the bolt with the compressed carbon dioxide gas. When it has emptied, simply replace it again.

Make Paintball Armor

The objective of a paintball game is to fire successfully at the enemy while protecting your body from being splattered by paint. You can make paintball body armor to protect yourself from being hurt when hit by the paintballs. You will need a few supplies from a hobby store and some items that are commonly found around the house.

Instructions

1. Cut a piece of burlap that is as wide as your chest and reaches from your neck to your waist.

2. Place the piece of burlap on a table. Apply hot glue from a glue gun across the top third length of the piece of burlap. Sprinkle the foam beads onto the burlap where the hot glue has been applied. Let the hot glue set for five minutes.

3. Repeat this procedure with the center third and the bottom third of the piece of burlap.

4. Cut another piece of burlap that is the same dimensions as the one that is on the table.

5. Place the just cut piece of burlap on top of the one that is on the table. Tape the top, bottom and sides of the two pieces of burlap together with strips of duct tape.

6. Tape one end of the bungee cord to the upper left corner of the burlap. Tape the other end of the bungee cord to the upper right corner of the burlap .

7. Tape one end of the other bungee cord to the lower left corner of the burlap. Tape the other end of the bungee cords to the lower right end of the burlap.

8. Pull the two bungee cords over your head. Pull the burlap that is now body armor down over the front of your body. Arrange the sides of the bungee cords so that they are holding your paintball body armor securely to the front of your body.

Use A Speed Gun

A Speed Gun

Measuring the speed of an object isn't easy. Accurate determination of the motion of an object requires instruments that can instantly perform the calculation of SPEED = DISTANCE X TIME and display it in a recognizable format. The most common instrument for speed measurement world wide is the Falcon Kustom speed gun which employs the Doppler principle. Most law enforcement agencies and baseball clubs use this device, or a variant, for speed detection. This article is designed specifically at coaches measuring the speed of a baseball pitch.

Instructions

1. Plug the instrument into the power source and turn on.

2. Point the gun in the general area from where the baseball will be thrown and depress the trigger. In a sweeping motion determine that there are no objects capable of returning a signal other than the baseball.

3. Have a friend stand approximately twenty feet away with a baseball.

4. Point the speed gun towards the friend and press the trigger.

5. Have the friend throw the baseball to a position beside you.

6. The baseball if detected by the speed gun, will emit a tone and numerals will be shown on the rear of the speed gun. Release the trigger to lock in the speed of the baseball.

Care For My Paintball Gun

Caring for your paintball gun is an integral part of getting the most out of the life of your gun. Whether you have a cheap or expensive gun, these steps will ensure both have a long shelf life, and will make this expensive sport a lot cheaper and easier to enjoy. You can use different brands of paintball gun oils and cleaners. Remember to remove the air source to your gun before beginning any of these steps.

Instructions

Cleaning and Caring

1. Take your gun after you've used it and remove the barrel. Take your squeegee or barrel snake and run it through the barrel to clean out excess paint and dirt.

2. Use the squeegee to clean the vertical feeder of the paintball gun. The vertical feeder is the part of the gun that connects to the hopper.

3. Grab the gun oil and put a few drops in a few places. The first place is the trigger mount. Turn the gun upside down and drop a few drops in the spot where the trigger meets the body of the gun. Then put a few drops into the firing bolt. This allows the chamber bolt to move the paintball through the gun smoothly.

4. Wipe off the excess gun oil and paint off of the gun and barrel with the towel.

About Antifog Spray

Anti-fog spray is the ideal way to keep safety goggles, sunglasses, auto glass, car windscreens, visors and bathroom mirrors clear and fog-free. It can be used for any mirror or glass surface, and its effects last for a long time. It works by covering surfaces with a temporary, fog-resistant layer. There are many different anti-fog sprays available on the market.

Function

Anti-fog spray is a waxy coating that is translucent but keeps water molecules from clinging onto surfaces (thus preventing fog from building up) such as mirrors and glass. It rejects the water molecules by beading them and therefore enabling you to see better through the surface.

Warning

Sometimes conditions can be so extreme that no type of anti-fog spray will really work. Such examples include being in freezing temperatures and then suddenly entering warmer environments (the water absorbed by the anti-fog spray can ice up and block vision), hydrophobic lenses (dirt- and fingerprint-resistant lenses that usually reject anti-fog spray, too) and severely wet conditions such as rain (could potentially wash off the coating). In conditions like these, your anti-fog spray will most likely stop working properly.

Types

There are many different brands of anti-fog sprays on the market now. Some of the most popular brands include Aqua Sphere, Fogtech, Kleer Vu, Stupiddogg and Speedo. Fogtech is often thought of as the best anti-fog spray because it tends to have the longest lasting results for keeping fog away from surfaces. It is also very quick to apply, usually taking less than 20 seconds to protect lenses.

Considerations

Anti-fog spray varies in price, but it generally goes for between $5 and $15. For $5 (and sometimes, on rare occasions, you can find small bottles for under $3), you can generally purchase a 2 oz. bottle of anti-fog spray. $15 should get you 8 oz. or more.

Expert Insight

Another common but interesting use for anti-fog spray is for cleaning camera lenses. Before using a camera, it's a good idea to get a soft cloth, apply some anti-fog spray to it and clean the camera lens. Gently wipe the spray off the lens, and you are ready to start taking pictures. This process is very quick, extremely easy and long lasting.

Fill Paintball Tanks

Paintball tanks power paintball "markers," the guns and pistols used in the extreme sport. These tanks contain compressed air, carbon dioxide, or a nitrous mixture which is used to propel the gelatinous projectiles at high speeds towards the target. Most tanks are refillable and refills are available at commercial paintball centers or local scuba or hobby shops. Filling a paintball tank is not a difficult task, but proper procedures must be followed to minimize the risk of damage to the tank or surrounding property.

Instructions

1. Check the label or user's manual for the correct pressure and contents prior to filling. Not all tanks can use all three of the common paintball tank gasses.

2. Remove the tank from your weapon. Point the barrel of your marker upwards and away from people.

3. Screw the tank to one end of the pressure gauge. Correct pressure ensures safe operation of the tank.

4. Connect the other end of the gauge to the refill source. Scuba tanks, carbon dioxide and nitrous tanks can all be used as the source subject on your tank's specifications.

5. Open the tank's safety valve. This allows the gas to flow into the container.

6. Fill the tank with the desired gas. Watch the pressure gauge to ensure that overfilling does not take place.

7. Close the safety valve and turn off the refill source. Never try to remove the tank until the connection is closed.

8. Disconnect the pressure gauge from the source.

9. Unscrew the gauge from the tank.

10. Cap your tank or attach it to your marker. It should now be filled to the correct pounds per square inch, or PSI, of gas.

Assemble An Icon Paintball Gun

Assemble your own Icon paintball gun.

The Icon paintball gun, sometimes called a paintball marker, was manufactured by the company 32 Degrees and had been discontinued as of 2010. The Icon paintball gun was known as a good, inexpensive alternative to markers that cost much more. The Icon is constructed of aircraft-grade aluminum and has such features as a dual finger trigger, cocking capability from either the right or left side and a durable gas line made of stainless steel. Assembling your Icon paintball gun should take no more than a few minutes.

Instructions

1. Thread the barrel onto the gun's main body, and tighten it in a clockwise direction until it is hand-tight.

2. Thread the small velocity adjuster into the hammer plug at the rear of the barrel two full turns in a clockwise direction.

3. Screw the barrel lock onto the front end of the barrel in a clockwise direction in case the gun is accidentally discharged.

4. Put the gun into safe mode by sliding the safety button to the right.

5. Cock the gun by sliding the bolt back until it locks into position. Point the gun toward the ground and thread a propellant cylinder into the fitting near the bottom of the hand grip in a clockwise direction until it seats on the fitting.

6. Attach the paintball hopper to the feed tube at the top of the main body of the gun by loosening the two thumbscrews on the hopper and placing the small hole in the hopper over the feed tube. Tighten the lower thumbscrew on the hopper in a clockwise direction. Move the hopper so the lid is facing the rear of the gun, and tighten the upper thumbscrew in a clockwise direction.

Gun Transport Laws

Unless you are a convicted felon, under indictment for felonies, are mentally deficient, an illegal user of drugs, an illegal alien or are military veteran who was dishonorably discharged, there is no federal restriction on transporting a gun or firearm across state lines. Also, if you have been convicted of a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence or are subject to restraining orders pertaining to domestic violence, federal law states that you cannot transport any firearms. However, many states have laws that regulate gun transportation. Also, many cities have ordinances that restrict transportation. If you travel, you must be conscious of the law and comply with each jurisdiction's requirements.

Carrying a Gun

Whenever you are carrying a firearm (handgun, shotgun or rifle) on your person or easily accessible in your vehicle, state and local laws become applicable. It is important that you find out what the law is in each state. You can do this by calling the attorney general's office in a particular state or by calling the NRA/IRA at 800-392-8683. This will help determine whether a permit is necessary and how you can obtain it. Many states require a permit but will not issue them to nonresidents.

Transportation by Vehicle

Most states allow gun transportation in a vehicle as long as it is unloaded, cased and locked in the vehicle's trunk. However, exceptions to this rule are applicable to interstate transportation of firearms. For example, if you have a trailer or a camper that is towed by your automobile, you should transport the gun in the trunk, making sure that it is unloaded and cased. But if your vehicle is of the type where living and driving spaces are not separate, then place the firearm in a locked, rear compartment where it cannot easily be accessed by the driver or passengers.

Firearms Aboard Commercial Airplane

The carrying of any concealed or unconcealed firearm, on or about a person on a commercial aircraft is prohibited by federal law. They are permitted as baggage but the Transportation Security Administration has specific requirements for transporting the firearm and ammunition. These requirements include: the firearm being checked in with the carrier as luggage, the firearm being declared orally or in writing, the firearm must be unloaded, and it must be carried in a hard sided container. Firearms and ammunition are prohibited as carry on luggage.

Firearms Aboard Other Carriers

If traveling by boat, train or non-commercial plane through interstate or foreign commerce and are legally in possession of a firearm, you must deliver the unloaded gun into the custody of the captain, pilot, conductor or operator until the destination is reached. Most bus companies such as Greyhound typically refuse to transport firearms.

Canada and Mexico

Canadian gun-transport laws are very strict. If you take a trip to Canada and plan to bring a firearm, you must declare the possession to a customs officer. The gun must also be registered at a cost of 18 Canadian dollars. After registration, you must obtain a Non Resident Firearms Declaration Form and be approved at the border, which costs $50 Canadian. Semi-automatic shotguns and rifles that are less than 660 mm or have a barrel length less than 457 mm are prohibited in Canada.

Gun transport to Mexico also is very restricted. However, an may bring two sporting shotguns or rifles for hunting and 50 rounds of ammunition per gun. A tourist permit must be obtained from the Mexican Consulate that has jurisdiction over the area where the tourist is living. You must also obtain a military permit and a hunting services agreement from the Mexican Secretary of Urban Development and Ecology. This must be in the possession of the hunter at all times along with his passport, five picture IDs and proof of citizenship.

About Mini Paintball Guns

About Mini Paintball Guns

Paintball, a paramilitary game of strategy and athleticism, is far from a static sport. As technology develops, so does the sport. While each advance takes the game in a new direction, some breakthroughs revolutionize the sport. Mini paintball guns, or markers, offer some of the newest technology to grace the industry in years, and most players are excited to reap the benefits.

Size

Mini paintball guns are truly that---miniature. Weighing just under 2 lb. before the air tank and hopper, these markers are great for speedball players, or small hands. Mini paintball guns are also small in price. New guns can be purchased for just over $300, while many used models sell for well under $300. While they are cheap, they are technologically some of the best markers available on the market.

Features

Aside from weight, mini paintball guns offer numerous other features that make them desirable for both recreational and tournament play. Mini paintball guns can fire 20 paintballs per second and use far less air than other markers in the process. They are also consistent and accurate, qualities derived from the sable electronic system. Mini paintball guns are simple in design and are therefore simple to clean. There are only three parts to the marker---the barrel, breach and bolt. A simple design also means simple maintenance, and mini paintball guns can often be repaired at home with minimal effort.

Benefits

The size of mini paintball guns makes them the perfect weapons for speedball or other face-paced paintball games, but they are also great guns for beginners---they are inexpensive, easy to maintain, and provide new players with a quality gun that will not burden them on the field. Many paintball markers are not efficient out of the box. Stock model mini paintball guns, however, can compete with most modified markers. Experienced players will know exactly what to alter to make their markers fit their playing style, but mini paintball guns allow novice players to compete without having to know every detail of the sport.

Considerations

Of course, while mini paintball guns are perfect for speedball players and beginners, those are not the only participants in the sport of paintball. Some players enjoy simulation play, where everything from dress and weapons to props and sets are historically accurate both in appearance and function. A World War II simulation game would not benefit from mini paintball guns, regardless of how flawless the markers are. While mini paintball guns are revolutionizing some aspects of the game, there are some paintball niches that will not be impressed with the futuristic look and function of these markers.

Potential

As stated above, mini paintball guns are competitive right out of the box. However, they are also perfect for modification. The frame of the gun will always be small and light, but longer barrels, harder triggers and aftermarket boards can all be added to perfect performance. Of course, any modifications must comply with tournament rules---for players hoping to shoot on fields that permit semiautomatics only, tweaking a mini paintball gun to fire at a rate higher than 20 paintballs per second would render the marker illegal.

Remove Paint From An Aluminum Shotgun Receiver

Use a potent solvent to clean paint from a shotgun receiver.

The receiver of a shotgun is the part that houses the operating parts of the firearm. Also called the body or frame, it is most commonly constructed of steel or aluminum. Removing paint from the aluminum receiver of a shot gun will require a potent chemical solvent. Apply the paint remover with the proper materials and the shotgun will be restored to its bare aluminum surface.

Instructions

1. Make sure the shotgun is entirely unloaded before cleaning. Point the weapon away from yourself and ensure that the safety is on.

2. Press and hold the release button located near the trigger guard. Slowly pull back the action bar until the chamber becomes visible, then remove any rounds. Turn the shotgun upside-down to empty out any rounds in the magazine tube; catch them as they fall right into your hand.

3. Bring the shotgun to an open, ventilated workspace. Put on chemical-resistant gloves and apply paint thinner or aircraft stripper to the painted areas on the receiver. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to determine whether the product needs to be brushed, sprayed or wiped on with a rag.

4. Read the product label to allow the paint to dissolve for the right amount of time. Once the chemical has softened it, scrub it loose with a wire brush; work quickly as the certain paint removers tend to evaporate before taking complete effect.

5. Use a second application of the remover if necessary. Scrub the receiver with a steel wool pad for a thorough cleaning of the remainder.

6. Wipe the treated area of the shotgun with denatured alcohol to neutralize the chemicals. Dry the surface with a clean cloth to ensure that no moisture remains on the bare aluminum.

Buy Pro Golf Apparel

If you are in the market for pro golf apparel, you probably want something better than the average golf clothing you can find at your local sports store. Whether you are a professional player yourself or you simply want to match your clothing to other players with whom you interact, there are a few things to keep in mind while shopping.

Instructions

Buy Pro Golf Apparel

1. Look for apparel at companies that specialize in pro golf clothing. These companies will be able to provide you with the typical line of golf products, but also they may also have fashions inspired by golf clothing, such as striped sweaters, polo shirts and dressy shorts. Many offer special lines just for women golfers.

2. Invest in a high-quality pair of gloves. If nothing else, this is the most important purchase you can make when it comes to apparel, as it will actually have an influence on the way you play. Look for brand-name gloves if you can, as they will be more likely to guarantee you quality and durability.

3. Visit the official PGA website to buy approved apparel that the pros wear (see Resources below). There you can find regular golf apparel, plus special clothing with the PGA championship or the Ryder Cup logos. Headwear, accessories and team-licensed items are also available on the website.

4. Focus on quality and comfort. You need clothes that are made with absorbent material (such as cotton) that will feel comfortable even after hours of playing or practice. Also, apparel that is too tight, too short or too clumsy can interfere with your game and make you feel less supple.

5. Decide on a budget beforehand. Pro golf apparel is expensive, especially if it carries the official logo of the PGA or another organization recognized worldwide. If your budget is limited, decide which items are most important to you and buy those first. Then divide up the rest of your budget for additional items.

Use A Ghillie Suit Properly

Warriors use the Ghillie suit in modern warfare as an element of concealment, usually by snipers and forward reconnaissance troops. The person using the Ghillie suit typically hand-makes it from available materials, incorporating the natural foliage of the immediate environment. When used properly, the Ghillie suit allows someone to penetrate enemy terrain unseen to set up for a sniper shot or to acquire valuable intelligence. Troops practice intensively to use the Ghillie suit properly.

Instructions

1. Scout the terrain and observe the natural foliage of the area. Look for the most abundant plant life in the area that you'll be traversing. Grab tufts of the material. Don't grab dead brown material and use it as cover among lush green vegetation.

2. Attach the tufts of foliage to your Ghillie suit cape and hood. Most Ghillie suits are lined with burlap or jute strings. Use these to stick foliage to without actually sewing it on. Simply stuffing the material into random areas of the suit is effective. The idea is to break up the body outline and appear as a natural part of the landscape. Do not cover the entire suit with the material, otherwise you'll look like an obvious moving bush.

3. Put on the Ghillie suit and advance toward your target. Each combatant wears a Ghillie suit that he assembles differently. You can walk slowly until you get to the area where you'll need to use the suit. Once near the open terrain, get into the prone position and begin crawling very slowly, keeping the lowest profile possible while still being able to see your target. You must appear completely motionless. Successful combatants have crawled only a few inches per hour for effective target stalking, though they generally keep this pace reserved for dangerous combat situations.

4. Maintain awareness of your surroundings. Avoid rubbing against standing vegetation. If you bump into a bush or disturb an area of tall grass, the movement of the standing bush can look unnatural and can give away your position. Pay attention to the wind. If the wind is blowing across your body, move along with the wind while advancing slowly. Remain vigilant when advancing on your target. Do not move too far off course.

5. Grab available foliage while on the move if you need to replace or modify the suit. Often, the foliage will start to come off during motion, or the abundant foliage will change and you'll need to modify the suit. Find an area with cover to modify the suit if necessary, then keep pressing towards your target.

Remove House Paint From The Body Of My Car

When you are painting your house and you spill paint on your car, it can be a frustrating experience to remove it. The correct way to remove the paint is to use car polish cutting cream and a detailing clay bar. These are special detailing products that are available at any auto parts store. You should try to remove the paint as quickly as you can once you notice it on your car.

Instructions

1. Apply a small amount of cutting cream to the buffer and work the cream into the area with the house paint. The polish should remove most of the paint on the surface of the clear coat.

2. Wash the area clean with soap and water and then dry it with a clean, lint-free towel.

3. Spray the area you are working on with detailing clay lubricant and rub the detailing clay into the clear coat if there is any remaining house paint. The detailing clay bar is a hard, clay bar that will pick up any contaminates that are embedded into the clear coat. You will notice a frictionless surface when you start rubbing the clay bar. This will change as you continue to work the clay bar into the car's paint. It will become harder to rub the bar across the paint for a moment. At this point, the bar is lifting up the embedded house paint form the clear coat. Continue rubbing the clay bar into the clear coat until there is no more house paint left.

Camouflage A Paintball Gun

Paintball is an exciting sport that mimics battles and combat scenarios of real life military encounters, but does so with the lightheartedness of a game of tag. There are many different types of paintball games to play, one of which is known as woodsball. Woodsball is just what it sounds like, playing paintball in the woods and not on a designated field. Woodsball takes into account more guerrilla type tactics, such as playing as a sniper, using camouflage, sneaking tactics and other covert techniques. Camouflaged guns show up prevalently in woodsball and other paintball game scenarios. The process of camouflaging your paintball gun is fairly simple and, utilizing camouflaged fabric tape can be easily reversed if you want to sell or get rid of the gun.

Instructions

1. Take the hopper off of the paintball gun and lay the gun on a flat surface. Unscrew the barrel from the gun body and use the screwdriver to remove the gun's grip.

2. Unroll a length of tape along the back spine of the stock and continue down along the handle and trigger guard. Use strips of tape to cover every possible portion of the gun, making sure to lay the strips in overlapping rows to ensure good coverage.

3. Wrap the tape in a spiraling motion along the length of the barrel, leaving the threads exposed. Use any left over tape to cover your ball hopper. Screw the barrel back into the gun body and attach the grips back onto the stock of the gun.

Cool Places To Get Married In The United States

Love your wedding venue even if it is anything but traditional.

Your wedding could make a splash if you get married underwater while swimming with sharks. Jump out of a plane for each other and get married while skydiving. If the location you are interested in does not list wedding packages, ask management if they offer private party reservations. Some paintball fields, bakeries and even fast food restaurants can be reserved. Being creative in your search will help you land a cool venue for wedding.

Brewery Weddings

When considering outdoor venues, many couples will come across vineyard settings that still offer couples a traditional wedding. However many couples probably do not consider getting married indoors at a brewery.

The Karl Strauss Brewing Company--which is located in San Diego, California--can provide you with a wedding venue that will still leave you in awe. A mix of beautiful grounds, gardens, Koi pond and waterfall offer you a beautiful setting for your wedding. The brewery for your reception provides rustic charm and warm ambiance. While many couples have previously used the historic landmark as a backdrop for their wedding photos, some couples have decided to take the plunge and get married on the platform to the Cyclone roller coaster. They can then take a literal plunge after the jump into marriage.

Hot Air Balloons

If you crave adventure, a hot air balloon ceremony may be for you. You can choose whether you want to get married in a private ceremony on the ground or in the air. Companies like Rohr Balloons--which is located in McKinney, Texas--offer special wedding packages. These ceremonies include a officiant, champagne and flutes, cake and hors d'oeuvres, the ceremony, and a decorated "Just Married" hot air balloon basket. Additional options include photography, catered reception and tethered hot air balloon rides at your reception for your guests. Import Replica Weapons In Australia

You need permission to import replica guns to Australia.

Australia has a range of rules on importing replica weapons. While the country has no laws on importing replica edged weapons, such as toy swords or bayonets, this isn't the case with replica firearms. To the Australian government, the word "replica" refers to anything that has the visual appearance of a real gun, including arcade and video game controllers.

Instructions

1. Find the contact information for the police firearms or weapons registry in your state or territory, using the Firearms and Weapons Information Contacts list on the Australian Customs and Border Protection website.

2. Obtain authorization form BC709A from your state or territory's police firearms or weapons registry. If any part or accessory of the replica firearm can be removed and used in a real firearm, a separate authorization from the police or Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department is required for that component.

3. Present the authorization form to Customs and Border Protection at or before importation of your replica firearm to Australia. Safety testing isn't required for a replica firearm, nor is a unique serial number.

Customize Baseball Jerseys

You can customize baseball jerseys with a bit of creativity, computer graphics files, a vendor to print and deliver the shirts, and time to follow the project through. Designing can be done online, using a jersey template to mix and match colors, graphics, fonts and designs. Internet sites offer designs used by professional and college teams, as well as a broader picture of the many styles and graphics available from suppliers of baseball jerseys.

Instructions

1. Select shirt styles, colors and sizes. Decide whether you want a jersey that resembles a conventional baseball uniform, a historic style or the pullover style used in softball. Most vendors have templates online with which you can mix and match colors and designs. Another option is to download and print a jersey template for sketching your ideas by hand.

2. Design the jersey front. Pick the lettering font for the team name. Determine where to position the name. You could place it across the chest in a straight, arched or ascending/descending pattern. You might also consider a smaller pattern over the left breast. Some teams include the player's number on the front, usually in the lower left or right area of the jersey.

3. Add artwork. Pictures, graphics of a mascot, or logos could be placed on one or both sleeves slightly below the shoulder.

4. Add stripes, piping or trim. Some jerseys have the pinstripe look. Otherwise, consider piping, a thin line in a team color that usually circles the collar and travels down the middle front of the jersey along the buttons. Trim can be added around the ends of sleeves.

5. Design the jersey back. Add names and numbers. Determine the font and size for each. Names can be straight or arched. Add the letters individually (by stitching, hot press or silk-screening). Another option is to stitch the lettering to a fabric strip that matches the uniform color and then attaching the strip to the jersey. Determine whether you want names and numbers outlined or shadowed in another color.

Buy Artificial Turf

Artificial turf is used as a covering for numerous types of surfaces. Artificial turf can be placed in batting cages, football fields, soccer fields, mounds, dugouts, landscaped areas, patios and other areas where you want a grass-like look without planting seed. Keep the following in mind when you buy artificial turf.

Instructions

1. Measure the coverage area. You will need the square footage of the area prior to receiving a quote on the artificial turf.

2. Determine whether you want infill or no infill for your artificial turf. Infill artificial turf has more of a natural feel and uses sand or other particles to make the synthetic grass stand up. If you are using it for aesthetic purposes, no infill would be a more practical choice.

3. Browse the different types of artificial turf available. Besides mats, the two main choices most retailers will have are grass-like and carpet-like pieces. The carpet-like pieces will likely have foam padding while grass likely will have synthetic blades of grass and possible infill.

4. Review their pricing options. Retailers of artificial turn will likely give you a price per square foot which will likely only include the product and not installation costs. Field Turf has been used by many sports teams and is an appropriate choice for large-scale installation projects. Artificial Turf Supply is more suitable for residential uses.

5. Save by buying used or overstock pieces of artificial turf. Some retailers will sell artificial turf that has been previously used in large professional or college stadiums. If it has some wear, you will pay less and can still use it in fields, dog runs, dugouts and paintball facilities. For example, On Deck Sports sells used artificial turf.

Aim A Rifle

Aim your rifle carefully

Learning aim a rifle is a basic part of using the firearm. To begin with, if you do not know aim the rifle, then you stand very little chance of actually hitting your target. Knowing aim the rifle also adds to the degree of firearms safety knowledge that you have, providing you with more responsible control over the rifle. Here is a quick guide on properly aim a rifle.

Instructions

Aim a Rifle

1. Set the target up at one end of the shooting range, and take a position across from the target at the opposite end. A projectile fired from a rifle travels at much higher velocity than a round fired from a hand gun, and will travel much farther. Because of this, it is highly recommended to use a professional shooting range for your practice, but if one is not available, any secluded, rural area will work.

2. Grasp the stock of the rifle, near the trigger guard, with your trigger hand. This will be your right hand if you are right-handed, or your left hand if you are left-handed.

3. With your trigger hand grasping the stock of the rifle, use your other hand to hold the rifle farther down the barrel. This will give you greater balance, allowing you to hold the rifle steady as you aim, and also helping to keep control of the rifle when it is fired.

4. Check to make sure no one is potentially in the line of fire. There should definitely be no one behind the target area. There should also not be anyone to the sides of the path of the projectile. Any spectators should be located safely BEHIND the person with the rifle.

5. When the coast is clear, carefully raise the rifle and press the butt of the rifle stick firmly against the shoulder. Remember to keep your trigger hand near the trigger guard, and your other hand stretched closer to the end of the barrel to provide leverage. With the rifle raised, point it in the general direction of the target and prepare to take aim.

6. Cock your head slightly to the side so that your eyes are lined up on the rifle sight near the stock. Squint one eye so that your vision is focused directly on the sight. You should be able to clearly see two sights on the rifle. One sight is located near the stock, and has a small slot/groove cut into it. The second sight is near the end of the rifle and is a small bead, sometimes highlighted with red or orange paint.

7. With both sights in view, slightly adjust the far end of the barrel so that the bead sight can now be viewed through the slot in the first sight. When the sights are lined up in this manner, you are aiming the rifle.

8. With the two sights lined up, adjust the line of fire so that the small bead is now not only visible through the slot, but is also lined up directly on your target. You have now aimed the rifle at the target.

Motorcycle Body Armor Information

Motorcycle riders may purchase back protectors and impact protection armor.

Protecting yourself on a motorcycle goes farther than riding awareness. A helmet, gloves, boots, jacket and riding pants can be the difference between walking away from a motorcycle accident and weeks in the hospital. Within each category of body armor (helmet, gloves, etc.) there are multiple brandnames, each with gear designed for different riding environments such as warm weather and rain. Understanding the purpose of specific body armor products will keep you safely comfortable on the road.

Helmets

Arguably the most important piece of motorcycle body armor, the helmet protects the head and with a tinted visor blocks bright sun rays that could limit riding visibility. The United States Department of Transportation (DOT) requires every legally sold motorcycle helmet to pass Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 218, which includes brain and head safety tests, according to NHSTA. After meeting safety standards, a "DOT" sticker of approval stamps onto the helmet. The NHSTA cautions riders not to wear helmets without the "DOT" sticker because they could be dangerous. The inner liner should be at least one-inch thick, the chinstrap should securely hold the helmet in place and the helmet should weigh more than one pound. Third-party safety organizations such as Snell and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) also stamp their labels onto helmets after passing their safety standards.

Riding Jackets

Riding jackets protect motorcyclists from upper body road rash and bone fracture. Manufacturers design riding jackets for weather and environment. Summer jacket material includes textile, synthetic or mesh as opposed to leather. Air vents, a removable inner liner and light feel are also common to summer jackets. Winter jackets are water resistant, sit lower down the waist for further protection from the elements and have increased insulation. Winter jackets offer riders increased inner armor and padding because the increased likelihood of crashing on slick road surfaces. Off-road jackets are thin, sometimes nylon and denier for mobility, include many pockets, protect against harsh weather and offer armor commonly in the elbows and shoulders. Leather jackets offer increased protection because of material strength. Leather jackets include armor plating in the elbows, shoulders, sides and back of varying degrees depending on model and whether or not it is designed for a racetrack.

Gloves

Motorcycle gloves can be fingerless, armor plated or gauntlet-style, which protects a few inches past the wrist as opposed to a traditionally sized glove. There are gloves designed for rain, the racetrack and summertime. Made of leather, textile or other synthetic materials, armor and padding on the knuckles, fingers and palm help protect the hands.

Boots

Designed for racetracks, off-roading, motorcross or the street, boots come in assorted styles, but all protect the ankles and feet. Armor plates the nose, front and sides of a motorcycle boot. Off-roading and race boots lock in place with hinges. Some boots have removable booties for increased comfort and cleaning.

Riding Pants

Made from leather, textile or synthetic, riding pants offer further protection from road rash as compared to denim. Riding pants sell separately or come as a set in the case of a race suit. The knees, backside and thighs are common places for padding and body armor.

About Imagine Schools

Some public schools have stricter policies for teacher certification, others don't.

Imagine Schools is America's largest charter, with 73 schools and 40,000 students in 12 states. These tuition-free, public charters operate under a decentralized system that allows principals and teachers to tailor lesson plans to suit varying degrees of learning potential. The quality of education at charter institutions such as Imagine Schools, compared with schools under stricter government supervision, was still debated in 2011.

Business Approach

Imagine Schools states openly that it operates at the top like a business--even though in many states, including Florida, it is required to operate its schools like non-profits.

Imagine brings financial security to an area's educational system, the company's development director, Karl Huber, told the St. Petersburg Times in a May 2010 article about a struggling Imagine School. "If it doesn't make it financially," he said about the school, "it will close."

In the same article, a critic of the education-as-business model, Gary Miron, a professor of education at Western Michigan University, said, "We have these management companies that should be supporting schools as a vendor, and they're running them like private franchises."

Educational Decentralization

Standardized learning is frowned upon in Imagine Schools. Its mission statement claims that "there is no standardized student." With just a few administrators at company headquarters overseeing the educational component, principals are given breadth to help teachers employ more individual learning plans.

Imagine's president and chief executive officer, Dennis Bakke, was a federal official and businessman before he and his wife co-founded the Imagine Schools organization in 2004. In his biography, he focuses on the system's "decentralized leadership, freedom with responsibility, utilizing each person's gifts to their maximum, and giving decision-making power to people closest to the action." Little information was available to rate employee satisfaction with that model.

Models Followed

To tailor the curriculum, teachers follow a variety of educational models: Imagine Schools Standards Based Curriculum; Direct instruction; Core Knowledge; Project CHILD; Micro-Society; The International Baccalaureate; Single-sex education; and Arts or Science Focus Schools. These various approaches allow teachers to open students' eyes in a variety of ways to many subjects, according to the students' particular learning strengths.

On its curriculum web page, Imagine Schools abhors "one size fits all" approaches, preferring instead a learning environment in which children can be educated by teachers employing several models.

Character-Building Component

Most teachers in any school system attempt to employ character-building components in their lesson plans, but some parents have praised charter schools for a more concerted effort. Imagine Schools' "Character Development" Web page says this is not a "nice add-on in the curriculum--it is a crucial aspect of a quality school." Issues of "right and wrong, justice and the importance of serving others" are core elements, according to Imagine. It holds a national "caring" essay contest and urges principals and teachers to wrap character-building into other lessons.

To see whether Imagine Schools is building character in a way that conforms to your family's values, visit a school near you and speak with a principal.
