Make A Co2 Nerf Cannon

Make cannons for big kills in paintball with Nerf projectiles.

Paintball has become an industry across the country. Enthusiasts gather in large convention and events to compete against each other to find the best paintball team in the nation. There are even teams that play internationally. The development of new tools and weapons for use in the battles continue in a small part in the commercial sector, but most developments occur through the inventiveness of the players and teams. One such development is a CO2-powered cannon that fires Nerf projectiles. These cannons are not for use on people but work against tanks or serve as mortars.

Instructions

1. Lay the 2-inch PVC pipe on the ground and place the PVC cap onto one end. To seat the cap securely on the piece of tubing, strike the cap directly on the ground in a vertical fashion.

2. Drill a 1/2-inch hole in the side of the 2-inch tubing near the end containing the cap. Enlarge the hole slightly using a rounded metal file until it will almost fit a 90 degree steel elbow.

3. Soften the PVC around the hole and screw the male end of the steel elbow into the side of the PVC tubing. Hold the blowtorch far enough away from the PVC tubing so that it doesn't ignite the PVC or burn a hole through the side. Softening the PVC will form a seal against the steel as you screw the elbow into the tubing. To aid the threading and seal, also heat the steel elbow slightly before screwing it in. Use an oven mitt to hold the steel elbow and to screw it in so that you do not burn yourself.

4. Remove the elbow after the PVC and steel have cooled. Use the elbow to construct the high pressure side of the cannon.

5. Attach the quick change adapter of the Brass Eagle CO2 holder to one end of the steel pipe using the adapters to bring the size up to 1 inch NPT (Normal Pipe Thread). Screw the 5-inch steel pipe into the adapter. Use plumber's tape to create an airtight seal.

6. Connect one side of the ball valve to the end of the 5-inch steel tube. You can adjust the length of the pipe to make it longer if you desire, but do not make it any shorter. The pipe is the expansion chamber for the CO2 used as a propellant.

7. Screw the 2-inch piece of 1-inch steel tubing into the other side of the ball valve. Screw the other end of the 2-inch piece into the female side of the steel elbow.

8. Screw the male end of the elbow into the side of the PVC tube. Perform this by rotating the entire high pressure part of the cannon around repeatedly until the connection is tight. Use plumber's tape to make the connection airtight.

9. Screw the CO2 cartridge holder onto the end of the quick change adapter. To fire the cannon, load a projectile in the PVC tube. Make sure the ball valve is closed. Load a 12 gram CO2 cartridge into the holder and tighten it on the quick change adapter. Point the cannon and open the ball valve.

Make Paintball Guns

Make Paintball Guns

Paintball is one of the most exciting recreational sports and combat games played today. Thousands of people suit up and hit the woods and special parks to play paintball wars with colorful balls of paint. The most important piece of paintball gear you will need is the paintball gun. These guns can be pricey, but you can make your own.

Instructions

1. Use a handsaw to cut a 1-foot piece of PVC pipe. Using 100 grit sandpaper, rub the cut end to remove any burrs. This will be your paintball gun barrel.

2. Glue a PVC pipe connector to one end of the barrel you just cut.

3. Connect the threaded end of your gun barrel into the gas valve that will control the air flow to your paintball gun. Screw a PVC pipe connector onto the other end of the gas valve.

4. Cut a piece of PVC pipe between 4 and 5 inches long with the handsaw. Glue a female cap onto one end of the PVC pipe piece.

5. Attach the female end cap to the gas valve. You may want to purchase some pipe sealer and apply it to these pipe pieces to make sure you do not get any air leaks.

6. Fill your gun full of air. The most air you will want to put in your paintball gun is about 40 pounds of air.

Different Kinds Of Toy Guns

Toy guns come in all different styles and designs.

Toy guns come in all shapes and sizes, from brightly colored plastic bazookas to realistic-looking pistol replicas. Some toy guns fire harmless projectiles made from foam or soft plastic, while others use compressed air or caps to make loud firing sounds. Toy guns are often a controversial subject because many people believe they encourage violence among kids and are responsible for fatal mix-ups with real guns.

Cap Guns

Cap guns have been around since as early as the 1860s and are still sold in toy stores across the country. According to skooldays.com, cap guns first appeared immediately following the Civil War when weapons factories, responding to sharp declines in the demand for real guns, started to manufacture toy guns. These guns were filled with just enough gun powder to create a loud bang and some smoke when fired. Today caps (cap gun ammunition) are sold in circular plastic rounds that are usually red in color. Originally, cap guns were fashioned out of wood and metal, but today most guns are light plastic. Cap guns remain popular toys for youngsters and will likely be around for decades to come.

Water Guns

Water guns have been popular summertime backyard toys ever since they emerged in the 1950s. Water guns use air pressure to push water through an internal plastic pipe until the water squirts out of the barrel. Early water guns were basic pistols only capable of firing thin streams of water a very short distance. As water guns soared in popularity, guns featuring popular cartoon and movie characters such as Buck Rogers and James Bond began to appear. During the late 1980s, high-powered water guns like Entertech’s Super Soaker hit the shelves. These guns featured bright neon colors, large water tanks and increased shooting ranges. Many guns now feature sound effects, lights and even longer shooting ranges--up to 15 feet.

Blaster and Projectile Guns

Blaster and projectile guns fire harmless balls, pellets, darts, flying discs and other small objects, usually at short range. The bullets or ammunition are made from safe materials such as foam or soft plastic and are often brightly colored yellow or orange. One of the most popular makers of this type of gun is Nerf, whose distinctive foamy yellow balls and plastic darts became synonymous with this type of toy gun. Nerf’s creative gun design features cross bows, multi-fire bazookas, revolvers and machine guns. These guns offer a much safer alternative to BB guns, which have been associated with property destruction and many child injuries.

Operate A Pressure Cooker

Match the burner size to the pressure cooker size.

Cooking with a pressure cooker is an effortless approach to conserving energy and saving on your energy bill. Invented by a French doctor in 1679, the pressure cooker speeds cooking times and tenderizes most cuts of meat. Operating a pressure cooker is not difficult and, though there are many makes and models, the basic operating instructions are the same. The safety of today's models make learning to use a pressure cooker worthwhile for those with busy lifestyles. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Insert cooking rack into pressure cooker. A rack will raise the food level from the bottom to prevent scorching the food and should be used in all cases. This is particularly important when the pressure cooker is filled to capacity, as it will take longer to reach pressure and scorching can easily occur.

2. Add required amount of liquid and other ingredients to the cooker. Pressure cookers cook with with steam, using as little water as possible to preserve vitamins and minerals. Most of the modern pressure cookers use 1 cup of liquid for every 20 minutes of pressure cooking.

3. Check the vent in the top of the lid by holding it up to the light to make certain it is clear. This will assure the steam build-up will be accurate.

4. Lock the top of the pressure cooker onto the pan by following the manufacturer's instructions in the owners manual. Some models have a lid lock with flanges and others have a lid that locks when twisted onto the pan.

5. Place the pressure regulator, the weighted metal knob, onto the vent pipe, which is the raised opening in the center of the pressure cooker's lid. Place the cooker on the burner closest to the size of the pan.

6. Turn the burner on high under the pressure cooker until 15 pounds pressure is reached. Units having a pressure indicator will register 15 pound pressure on the gauge. On other units, the pressure regulator begins to rock and steam is released slowly which can be seen and heard.

7. Turn down the heat under the pressure cooker and begin timing the cooking when the 15 pound pressure mark is reached. Vegetables and fruits cook quickly, sometimes in five minutes or less. Boneless chicken can be ready for the table in three minutes and a large roast beef can take up to one hour. Use a pressure cooker-specific recipe to be sure, as you cannot open the pressure cooker to check while it's cooking under pressure.

8. Cool down the pressure cooker when cooking is complete, which will enable you to remove the lid. When the recipe says to let pressure drop on its own, set the pan aside to cool. Instructed to cool the pan at once, you will place the pan in cold water or under a cold running faucet until the pressure is reduced. This will take a minute or less. The lid will now open.

Cheap Paintball Guns That Are Fully Auto

A top-of-the-line paintball gun can be expensive; beginners may wish to invest in a cheaper one.

A fully automatic paintball gun is releases many continuous rounds when the trigger is depressed. They have proved to be very popular, despite the fact that some fields and tournaments do not allow fully automatic markers at all and many traditionalists believe that they destroy the spirit of the game. Fully automatic paintball guns are generally more expensive than automatic markers; in fact, many affordable fully automatic paintball guns are currently out of production. They are often available used or refurbished, however.

Kingman Spyder

There are not one, but two affordable fully automatic paintball guns in Kingman Products' Spyder line. The Spyder E-MR1 Tactical Marker is the cheaper of the two and retails for approximately $110, though in early 2011 it was out of stock at most retailers. It fires up to 15 balls per second. The Spyder RT retails for around $150, and can fire up to 30 balls per second. In addition to a fully automatic mode, both of these markers can operate in semi-automatic and burst modes.

Viewloader High Voltage

Like the Kingman Spyder models, the Viewloader High Voltage operates in semi-automatic and burst modes in addition to fully automatic. It has an anti-chop bolt (which prevents paintballs from becoming pinched in the gun and breaking) and a spiral ported barrel (which spins the paintball, making for a quieter shot). In fully automatic mode, it can fire up to nine balls per second. The Viewloader High Voltage is the oldest paintball gun on this list, and therefore may only be available used or refurbished. When new, it retailed for approximately $120, but refurbished and used models may sell for as low as $50.

WGP Worr Machine EG Electronic

The cheapest marker on this list, the WGP Worr Machine EG Electronic retails for about $80 when new, but costs less when refurbished or used. It has a sensor that prevents the gun from firing until the paintballs are firmly in place, and it is built to be easily field-stripped for on-the-go repairs. It shoots in semi-automatic and burst modes, in addition to fully automatic. Though the Worr Machine EG is out of production, used and factory refurbished models are readily available.

GoG eNVy

The GoG eNVy retails at about $200. It is quite modern and versatile, shooting not only in fully automatic, semi-automatic and burst modes, but also in PSP and BillyBall modes (special firing rates for specific paintball games). As is, it shoots 11 balls per second, but it can be upgraded easily to shoot 25 balls per second or more. It has a two-point adjustable trigger and is designed for easy maintenance.

Keep Airsoft Goggles From Fogging Up

In airsoft, eye protection is of paramount importance. An airsoft pellet can do devastating damage to an unprotected eye. However, eye protection can sometimes be a nuisance when the goggles fog up. It's a potentially dangerous condition because if you lift your goggles during play, you risk being hit in the eyes. However, by following a few steps, you can limit or eliminate fogging in your protective goggles.

Instructions

1. Purchase top-quality protective goggles made for the sports of airsoft or paintball. These goggles are designed to provide the best protection against the impacts of pellets, but also are typically treated to inhibit fogging and may be available with dual-pane "thermal" lenses.

2. Use anti-fog spray or gel to treat the inside of the goggles unless the goggle instructions direct otherwise. Instructions for these products may vary, but typically you apply the spray or gel to the inside of the lens, let it dry, and then buff the lens clean with a non-scratching microfiber cloth. It is very important to make sure that the goggle instructions do not state that this will damage your lens.

3. Wear a sweatband or a do-rag on your forehead to help absorb sweat. The more that you get inside the goggles' protective space, the more likely that it will condense and cause fogging problems. A sweatband and taking the time between games to wipe your face free of sweat reduces that possibility.

4. If wearing a face mask, breathe downward. Direct your breath down under the front of the mask. Your breath is laden with moisture and heat, and when it gets trapped inside your goggles (especially with sweat), then fogging is very likely.

Alcohol & Tobacco Tax Bureau

TTB is an agency of the Treasury Department

The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, known as the TTB, collects federal excise taxes on alcohol, tobacco, guns and ammunition. It also regulates the marketing of those products.

History

The Homeland Security Act of 2002 split the old Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) into two agencies. The ATF retained its law enforcement powers and became part of the Justice Department; its taxation and regulatory duties were transferred to the new TTB, part of the Treasury Department.

Workforce

The TTB employs about 600 people, most of them in Washington, D.C., and Cincinnati, Ohio.

Tax Collections

TTB collects about $17 billion a year in excise taxes. In fiscal 2008, the breakdown was roughly 56 percent alcohol taxes, 42 percent tobacco taxes and 2 percent firearms taxes.

Tax Rates

Tax rates for alcoholic beverages depend on the type of product and its alcohol content. Tobacco taxes are assessed either per unit--such as for cigarettes, cigars or rolling papers -- or by weight. Guns are taxed at a percentage of the sale price: for handguns, 10 percent; for long guns and ammo, 11 percent.

Alcohol Advertising

The agency fields consumer complaints about alcohol advertising and examines ads brought to its attention. It does not automatically pre-screen all ads but will review spots at the request of the advertiser.

Gift Ideas For Teen Boys

Finding a gift for a teen boy is sometimes a challange.

Purchasing a gift for a teen boy can be a daunting task. There are few items available for teens that are inexpensive or guaranteed that the teen will enjoy. However, with a little research, it is possible to find multiple gifts that any boy will take pleasure in. There are gift options for teen boys to fit every budget and taste.

Paintball or Airsoft

One of the most popular activities among teenage boys is paintball or airsoft parties. Paintball and airsoft games require a wealth of accessories and supplies. Every match, players use padding, helmets, camouflage and paintballs. It is easy to deplete these supplies. A gift of CO2, paintballs, paintball clothing or other accessories enables the teenage boy to play his favorite game more frequently.

Video Games or Magazines

Most teenage boys also play a great deal of video and computer games. If you are unsure of what game to get, ask the boy what games he likes or ask a sales associate about the top video games of the year. A video game typically provides about 50 or 60 hours of playtime, providing good value for the money. A subscription to a video game magazine also is a good option and provides information about upcoming games.

Gadgets

There are hundreds of gadgets teen boys love that also make great gifts. Electronic items such as ipods, unusual watches, paperless tablets, mini projectors, laptop accessories and other music players or editors will please many teen boys. Other decorative or unusual gadgets and accessories also make great gifts. Shirts with clever sayings, Lego architect sets, tabletop aquariums or terrariums, metal water bottles, sports-themed decorations or accessories, flash drives and almost any other unusual gadget will generally please a teen boy.

Money

Money is the ultimate gift for a teen boy. Although it is not very exciting or fun to wrap, money is a necessity for any teen. Money allows the boy to purchase whatever he wishes or needs, or he can save it for future expenses such as trips and college.

Car Items

A driving teen will appreciate gifts that are car oriented. Floor mats, steering wheel covers, wax and wash for the car, key rings, seat covers, gas gift cards and almost any other car accessory will thrill the driving teen boy.

Apply Military Camouflage Makeup

The art of applying military camouflage makeup is important because it gives our fighting men and women of the armed forces one more safety measure. The movies often portray the application of military camouflage makeup but, rarely do these come close to an accurate portrayal. For civilians who want to learn the art of military camouflage makeup, perhaps for hunting or playing war games such as paintball, there are many good resources on the subject, including the Ranger Manuals available at military surplus stores.

Instructions

1. Understand the reasons for applying camouflage. The purpose of camouflage is concealment from enemies. Camouflage helps to eliminate some of the visual cues that may tip an enemy off to your presence. Using military camouflage makeup to hide shine and color while breaking up the easily defined shape of the human face is the primary goal.

2. Choose the appropriate colors for the setting you are hiding in. Green face paint will stick out like a sore thumb in a desert setting. Black camouflage is inappropriate for snow-covered battlegrounds. In the most common applications, brown and green camouflage makeup will prove to be the most appropriate as these colors occur naturally in the majority of landscapes.

3. Start with a clean face. Prepare your skin by washing your face with soap and water. Apply a thin layer of lotion to avoid skin irritation and facilitate easy removal of the paint when you are finished. While washing your face and applying the lotion, set your camouflage makeup kit in the sun so it can warm and soften. If you are applying camouflage in cold weather or at night, you may have to warm the makeup in your hands prior to applying it.

4. Apply a thin layer of your base color to eliminate shine and color from being visible to your enemy. This base color should be applied evenly to the whole face, including the eyelids and ears. Also make certain to conceal the neck and hands with the base color.

5. Break up the pattern of your face so that your distinguishing features such as your nose, mouth and eyes are not easily recognized. This is done by adding secondary colors over the base coloring. Running a streak of green over a base of brown camouflage makeup creates a broken pattern. Apply the face paint in vertical or diagonal lines across your eyes and mouth while using horizontal or diagonal lines across the nose. Use small lines and blobs of color, instead of dramatic broad stripes, as the purpose of camouflage makeup is to create a less conspicuous appearance.

6. Adjust for shadow. Color changes throughout the day as light is cast from different angles. By adjusting the darkness of your camouflage makeup throughout the day, you will attain better concealment of your features because your camouflage will resemble the natural environment more closely.

Instructions For Red Dot Sights

Instructions for Red Dot Sights

A red dot sight is normally used by law-enforcement or by shooting specialists as well as competition shooters. This sight gives the user freedom from pinpointing a cross-hair reticle. The sight has a range of at least 100 yards with ample light intensity that can be adjusted to suit any situation.

Aiming and Battery

Aiming the red dot sight is simple. Just look through the scope at the red dot reticle. When the dot appears on the target, fire your shot. You can adjust the brightness or intensity of the dot depending on lighting conditions. At dawn or dusk with limited light you can adjust the dial clockwise to brighten the dot. The red dot has an intensity level ranging from 1 to 11. Return the dial to the "0" position to ensure that the light is off and not wasting the battery.

A red dot scope sues a lithium 2032 3-volt battery. This battery is ideal for long life of the scope when in the wilderness for long periods of time and works extremely well in low temperatures. When replacing the battery simply remove the battery cover on the bottom of the scope and replace the battery.

Zeroing the Red Dot Scope

To properly zero a red dot scope, loosen the upper and left cap screws on the top of the scope. You should fire at a target range of at least 25 yards if the scope is mounted on a pistol, and at a range of 100 yards if shooting a rifle.

Sit or stand in a comfortable shooting position and fire a group of three shots at the target. Take note of where your shots land in relation to the bull's-eye or center-mast of the target. If your shot needs to be adjusted to the left turn the "L" screw counter clockwise to move the dot left; reverse the turn for right dot movement.

Adjust the "Up" screw move the elevation up on the target if your round landed too low. Turn the "Up" screw clockwise one click and fire another shot to ensure proper striking point.

Sodamaking Machines

Soda-making machines allow users to choose their flavors and make soda with less waste than commercial products.

There are a multitude of soda-making machines on the market, but most of them are manufactured by SodaStream. These machines allow users to make their own soda at home without the cost to themselves or the environment that typical canned or bottled soda incurs. Most are made to sit on the counter, but other companies make them small enough to fit in a pocket. Add this to my Recipe Box.

SodaStream

SodaStream products offer users the chance to turn tap water into sparkling water or sodas in less than 30 seconds. One SodaStream carbonator can make 60 to 110 liters, which is equal to 170 to 310 aluminum cans of soda. After it is emptied, the carbonator can be refilled and reused with new sodamix and carbonating bottles. The machines require no batteries or electricity, and they allow soda to be made in more than 30 flavors.

Soda Club Home Soda Maker

The Soda Club Home Soda Maker includes a carbonator tank that can be refilled after making 110 liters of seltzer. There are multiple flavor packets available from orange to cola. The Edition 1 kit comes with the carbonator, two carbonating bottles and a set of soda syrups.

Fizz Giz

The Fizz-Giz machine is a portable unit that will fit in the silverware drawer or even the users' pockets. It can be used to make soda or even to carbonate fruit juice. The Fizz-Giz allows users to agitate bottles while mixing, so the company says it makes the soda more carbonated than other brands. Although not as easily located as a SodaStream machine, the Fizz-Giz can be found on the Internet.

The First Paintball Gun Invented

Paintball has become a mainstream sport since its inception in 1981.

Team Force, the U.K. paintball activity center website, reports some controversy over which gun was the first paintball gun. The first gun specifically designed for use as a paintball marker was designed and patented by the Daisy Manufacturing Company of Plymouth, Michigan, under contract to the Nelson Paint Company.

History

Paintballs were introduced by the Nelson Paint Company in the 1960s under contact to the U.S. Forestry Service. The Team Force website reports paintballs were created as a way of marking trees in an accurate way from long distances. Charles Nelson invented a gelatin capsule that could be injected with paint and fired from a gun. The capsules invented by Nelson were strong enough not to break until they collided with the tree to be marked. Initially, Team Force reports, the paintballs were fired from .22 pellet guns manufactured by Crossman and marketed by Nelson as the Nel-Spot 707.

Invention

According to the Funding Universe investment information website, the first paintball gun designed specifically to be used with paintballs was created in 1970. Daisy was the world's largest producer of air guns and ammunition, a technology modified by engineer James Hale to create the first paintball gun, which he named the "Splotchmarker."

Production

Team Force explains that the manufacturing of the Daisy-designed Splotchmarker began in 1972 after an agreement was reached between Daisy Manufacturing and the Nelson Paint Company. The Splotchmarker was rebranded as the Nel-Spot 007 when production began in 1972. During the same period, the use of paintballs expanded from the marking of trees to include the marking of cattle from long distances in the farming industry.

Nel-Spot 007

According to The Paintball Times, the Nel-Spot 007 is no longer manufactured by the Nelson Paint Company, but is still sold on the paintball market around the world. The Nel-Spot 007 is a pump-action pistol that is powered by 12-gram CO2 cartridges. The Paintball Times explains that the CO2 cartridge is held in the grip of the pistol by a sealed pin that pierces the cartridge. To activate the pistol, the bolt on the top of the pistol must be pulled back, allowing the pistol to fire a paintball.

Paintball Use

The game of paintball was not created until 1981 when a group of men from New Hampshire decided to create a survival game. The Team Force website explains that the Nel-Spot 007 was found in a farming magazine and chosen for use. The winner of the first game of paintball, Ritchie White, captured the four flags required for victory without firing a shot.

Anodize Flat Colors

Use any fade resistant dye to anodize flat colors on aluminum.

Anodizing is a process that uses electric current to create an oxide coating on the outside of aluminum objects. This coating is harder than the bare aluminum and prevents the metal underneath from corroding. Adding a dye during the anodizing process allows you to color the oxide coating as well. You can anodize a flat color--an even coating of just one color--on all kinds of aluminum objects, from telescope parts and paintball markers to car engine parts. The process is relatively straightforward and can be done using a few common materials.

Instructions

Preparation

1. Put on safety equipment of goggles and gloves and wear old clothes. Remove all contaminants from the object to be anodized. Combine three tablespoons of lye or one to two ounces of nitric acid with a gallon of water in a plastic tub. Add the lye or acid to the water. Place an aluminum object in this solution for a few minutes. The acid or lye solution will eat away oil and other contaminants that might cause uneven anodizing.

2. Mix the electrolyte. An electrolyte is any solution that electricity can travel through. The minerals in the electrolyte make it more effective at transmitting current than just water. Combine one part 50% sulfuric acid or battery acid with three parts water in a plastic tub. Choose a tub large enough to hold the object to be anodized and a piece of scrap aluminum.

3. Set up the parts. Use a wire or other corrosion-resistant material to suspend the cleaned aluminum object from Step 1 in the electrolyte. The liquid should cover it completely. Choose another piece of aluminum to be the cathode, or negative electrode. Suspend it in the electrolyte so that it doesn't touch the first object.

4. Attach the leads. Clip the battery charger's negative lead to the scrap aluminum cathode. Clip the positive lead to the object you wish to anodize. This object will become the anode, or positive electrode.

Anodizing

5. Switch on the battery charger. Use a rate of at least 2 volts. Higher voltages will allow the object to anodize more quickly. If power is flowing properly, you should see white fog, or a continuous stream of bubbles coming from the cathode.

6. Wait for the anodizing process to finish. Allow the parts to remain in the electrolyte with the current flowing for about two hours, or until you see a dull or yellowish tone on the surface of the anode. The bubbles coming from the cathode may change direction or become less frequent. You may need to leave large parts in the electrolyte for more than two hours, or use a higher voltage.

7. Turn off the power and use a pair of tongs or another corrosion-resistant tool to take the aluminum part out of the acid bath. Rinse the part thoroughly using distilled water.

Sealing

8. Combine fabric dye and distilled water in a stainless steel pot or other non-reactive, heat-resistant vessel. Use a higher dye concentration for darker colors, and a lower concentration to produce lighter colors. Place the part into the dye solution, then heat the mixture on a stove or hot plate to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Leave the pot on the heat for about 15 minutes, then remove the part. Rinse it with distilled water, but don't scrub the surface. Scrubbing could remove the color.

9. Fill another stainless steel pot with distilled water. Bring the water to a boil, and add the aluminum object. Allow the object to boil for 30 minutes. This process is called hot water sealing, and will harden the anodized surface, sealing the color in permanently.

10. Remove the part from the water bath with the tongs. Allow it to cool and dry completely before use.

Rimfire Cartridge Work

Background

Ever since Eli Whitney invented interchangeable rifle parts, there's been a great deal of uniformity imposed on firearms manufacturing. The same is true for the manufacturing of ammunition, since it has to be up to the standards or the guns it will be used in. Once ammunition was mass produced along with firearms, cartridges became uniform as well. There's the bullet, which is the actual projectile, the main gunpowder charge, the casing (usually made of brass, hence the slang term for expended shells), and the primer charge. When a gun is fired, the hammer slams down on the primary charge, which ignites the gunpowder, firing the bullet.

Definition

Rimfire cartridges are one type of cartridge that aren't used as often as center-fire cartridges. Rimfire cartridges have the primary charge inside the rim of the casing. As such, the hammer of a firearm that uses rimfire cartridges is usually round, so that it strikes the outside of the cartridge, which then ignites the gunpowder and fires the bullet. This is different from center-fire cartridges, where there is a separate primer kept in the base of the cartridge case and the rim is solid. Center-fire cartridges are more commonly used for larger loads of gunpowder that create more power, and as such, are often used in higher-caliber weapons.

Problems

Most problems with misfirings--when the hammer hits the cartridge but the primer doesn't go off--occur as a result of problems with the weapon itself, not with the ammunition. Rimfire cartridges for instance are most popularly used in a .22 caliber meant for rifles. These same bullets can be used in .22 caliber handguns, but might cause problems, since there isn't enough power for a semi-automatic handgun to function properly. Before using any variety of ammunition though, it's best to talk with a gunsmith or gun dealer, as they'll be able to offer advice on which ammunition may work best for given firearms. When in doubt, read your firearms manual.

Install An Rf Transmitter In An Invert Mini

A paintball gun

An RF Transmitter can greatly improve the performance of your Invert Mini by allowing you to synchronize your paintball gun with your paintball hopper. Every time you pull the trigger on your paintball gun, the RF Transmitter sends a signal to the paintball hopper prompting ball agitation. This modification will greatly reduce the amount of balls that your paintball gun breaks. Although this installation does require some technical knowledge of the Invert Mini and Empire RF Transmitter, it can be completed in a timely manner.

Instructions

1. Wrap the RF Transmitter in electrical tape, making sure to leave the LED lights uncovered.

2. Remove the foregrip of the Invert Mini. This can be accomplished by loosening two screws and sliding the foregrip away from the marker, making sure not to force anything.

3. Remove the two screws that are located on the left side of the gun by the grip. Pull the grips out of the way and remove two more screws that attach the trigger frame to the body of the gun. Pull the trigger frame away from the gun body.

4. Disconnect the solenoid and attach the harness that is included with the RF Transmitter to the Invert Mini's solenoid plug, which is located on the sensor board. Plug the other end of the harness into the solenoid.

5. Reattach the frame to the body of the Invert Mini. Be careful to not pinch the white harness that was just installed.

6. Connect the plugs of the RF Transmitter and the white harness.

7. Reassemble the rest of the Invert Mini by placing the foregrip on the body of the gun and reattaching the screws. Also replace the grip to the normal position and tighten those two screws.

8. Synchronize your Invert Mini's new RF Transmitter with the paintball hopper. The hopper's manufacturer includes detailed instructions.

Load Bbs In A Colt Airsoft

Airsoft is a game similar to paintball and its players form teams and engage in simulated combat using Airsoft guns. They are exact replicas of guns used by police or military troops. The guns fire non-lethal, soft BBs instead of bullets. The BBs are not designed to cause serious injury or draw blood when fired, but being struck with a BB fired from an Airsoft gun can sting. A popular Airsoft model is the Colt 1911 handgun. It contains a magazine to store the BBs.

Instructions

1. Press the slide release button located on the left side of the gun. This removes the magazine that holds the BBs.

2. Use the release tool that came with the Colt Airsoft gun to hold down the spring on the magazine. The circular head of the release tool fits into a notch on the side of the magazine. You can pull the slide down to fill the magazine with BBs.

3. The Colt holds 25 6mm BBs. The BBs should be arranged in an alternating pattern in the magazine.

4. Fill the magazine with CO2 gas. Tip the gas canister vertical above the CO2 reciprocator on the magazine.

5. Insert the magazine back into the Colt. Listen for a distinctive "click" indicating that it is securely in place. Pull the slide back to the cock the gun. Keep the gun on safety until you are ready to play the game.

Set Up A "Counterstrike" Lan Game

You can set up "Counter-Strike" to play over a LAN.

To setup a "Counter-Strike" LAN game, you must first understand what LAN means. LAN, or Local Area Network, is designed to allow a group of computers to communicate with each other without having to access the Internet. So, setting up "Counter-Strike" in a LAN environment will allow people in a room to play each other in close proximity instead of having to use the Internet and sacrificing face-to-face interaction.

Instructions

1. Plug the eight Ethernet cords into the eight-port Ethernet switch. Plug the other ends of the Ethernet cords into each individual computer.

2. Click on "Start," then "Control Panel." Double click on the "Network Connections." You'll see a message stating that an Ethernet cord was connected, but you'll also see an exclamation point because the computer can't find a proper network.

3. Double click on the network connection and click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)."

4. Click on "Properties," and in the first section, type "192.169.1.100" for the "IP Address." Enter in "255.255.255.0" for the "Subnet Mask." Leave the "Gateway" blank and press the "OK" button. Repeat this process on each connected computer, increasing the last digit of the IP address by one with each computer added. The eighth computer should have "192.168.1.107" for the final IP address.

5. Load "Counter-Strike." Use the computer with the best equipment to be the server. Have that person host the server by selecting "New Game." Select the level that you want to play and click "Start." This will load the game.

6. Start "Counter-Strike" on the other computers and then have each player click on "Find Servers." Adjust the tab to "LAN" so they can see the server, and have them double-click on it to join.

Tell If A Tank Is Co2

From fire extinguishers to paintball cartridges, CO2 is used in many products.

CO2 cylinders, cartridges and tanks all have markings indicating they contain the compressed gas carbon dioxide, or CO2. The gas is used to power paintball guns, air firearms, some fire extinguishers and for home brewing beer. Before inserting a tank or cartridge into your device, be sure you are working with an authentic CO2 holder. Markings often are referred to as hydrostatic markings or tests.

Instructions

1. Pick up a the small cartridge-tank. Look at the crown, where the nozzle forms, for lettering indicting "CO2". CO2 cartridges are required to have lettering indicating the tank-cartridge holds the gas.

2. Look for a large yellow triangle with black lining and a black "CO2" in the center on larger tanks. This is an indicator used for larger tanks, often for industrial use.

3. Check large truck tanks for a "DOT-3AL," the Department of Transportation (DOT) specification for the compressed gas tank. In addition, look for the cylinder identifier such as "B20," indicating the B as company identifier and the number the poundage of the gas.

Make A Paintball Gun Quieter

Quieter paintball guns allow snipers to sneak in close!

Paintball is a sport that mimics real battle tactics, but is as harmless as a game of tag. Since their inception, paintball markers have undergone an entire revolution in design, manufacture and function. Most paintball guns on the market today look more like some kind of laser gun than a paintball marker, however there is still one thing they all have in common: they make noise. Anyone who has ever played paintball knows that you need to be fairly close to hit your opponent and your first shot may not always connect. If your gun is quiet enough that it cannot be heard, you have a better chance at getting a second shot off unscathed.

Instructions

1. Disassemble the gun down to the internals using the Allen wrenches. Take off the hand grips, pull the cock and slide out of the body of the gun, and lay the empty gun frame on a clean surface.

2. Use the cotton balls to fill any void within the frame that is not filled by some kind of trigger or mechanism. By filling in the spaces you effectively quiet the gun by eliminating areas for vibration to reverberate.

3. Reassemble the gun after filling the voids with cotton balls, but do not place the old barrel back into the gun frame. Install a new aftermarket barrel (see Resources) by screwing it into place at the end of the gun frame. The new barrel should be at least 12-inches long if not longer, and should be ported for the last 3 inches of barrel length. The longer barrel and porting allows more gas to dissipate as the ball leaves the barrel and helps to eliminate that distinct "pop" sound after each shot.

4. Install a soft ball hopper (see Resources) cover by wrapping it around the hopper and securing it in place with the Velcro attachments. The ball hopper cover will not only quiet the sound of ammo rolling around in your hopper, but it will quiet the gun as you slip through the brush and protect your hopper from direct paintball hits.

Make A Logo For A Paintball Team

Create a logo for your paintball team.

If you are an avid paintballer, you may have considered joining a professional paintball team. These teams design their own uniforms and logos, as well as create their club memorabilia. An exciting and unique paintball logo is essential to getting your team noticed by skilled players or financial sponsors you want to attract. Luckily, designing your own paintball logo is not too difficult, and can be completed by any paintballer who has basic technical and visual abilities.

Instructions

1. Turn on your computer and open a graphic design program. The most popular of these applications are Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter. Free alternatives include Aviary and Inkscape.

2. Create a new blank canvas document. Select "New" from the File menu and determine the dimensions of your logo. You should start with a very large campus and create a logo that is larger than the needed applications. Logos will look blurry and stretched if they are enlarged, but will not distort if they are made smaller. Consult the specific design application you are using for detailed instructions on creating a blank document.

3. Determine the color scheme you will use for your paintball logo. Most paintball teams have specific colors with which they identify. Make sure your logo follows your team's colors. The background, vector shapes, text and graphic images on your logo should follow a theme but do not have to have identical styles.

4. Choose the font and text settings for your logo. Type your team name in the font of your choosing. Adjust the size of the text as well as the styling such as underline, bold and italics. You can also emboss, contour and add shadows to your text.

5. Consult the logos of other paintball teams to determine appropriate content for your logo. A simple text logo might be classic, but adding an image of a paintball gun, paintball mask or other paintball-related pictures can make your logo more memorable.

Increase The Velocity Of A Paintball Gun

Increase paintball velocity up to 300 feet per second at most

Increase the velocity in your paintball gun to speed up each paintball as you fire it. This process is known as calibrating or chrono-ing the paintball gun. Each player should calibrate his or her gun to approximately the same velocity to keep the playing field fair. According to PaintballOptions.com, paintball players should maintain a paintball speed of 300 feet per second or less. Exceeding this limit could result in injury, especially when shooting within close range. Always aim the paintball gun in a safe direction while increasing the velocity to prevent accidents.

Instructions

1. Aim the radar chronograph toward a safe location--away from people, animals and buildings.

2. Fill the paintball hopper with at least 15 paintballs.

3. Shoot three paintballs through the radar chronograph and read the gun's current speed.

4. Increase the paintball gun velocity using the hex key. Insert the hex key into the carbon dioxide adjustment chamber (a small hole usually found on the left side of the gun above the trigger) and turn it counter-clockwise one full turn.

5. Shoot three more rounds through the radar chronograph. If the velocity is at the desired speed, you're finished adjusting. If not, re-insert the hex key into the chamber and turn counter-clockwise by half turns until you reach the desired velocity, testing through the chronograph after each turn.

Zero In A Laser Sight

A laser sight can be a great addition to a hunting rifle, pellet gun or paintball gun. But it's little more than eye-candy if you don't properly sight it. Zeroing your laser sight to ensure it is lined up with your cross-hairs guarantees the best shot.

Instructions

1. Mount the laser to your scope before mounting the scope by placing it in the mounting bracket and tightening the top locking bracket. Make it as level as possible.

2. Loosen the four adjustable screws on the front of your mounted laser until they are nearly off.

3. Turn the laser on, then slowly turn the hex key in one of the four screws while looking down the scope. Note which direction tightening this screw adjusts the laser beam.

4. Repeat Step 3 for the other three screws, taking note of which direction each screw moves the beam.

5. Adjust the screws while looking down the scope until the laser dot rests over your scope's cross-hairs.

6. Test fire your rifle at a range to ensure accuracy.

Make A Paintball Bandana

Select a festive fabric or opt to paint your own designs.

Paintball is a competitive sport that can provide hours of fun. This war-like game is most often played in teams and using clothing or accessories to help distinguish between teams can make game play go smoothly. Making your own paintball bandannas is one way to help separate the teams or can be a creative activity to make some unique gear for your next round of paintball.

Instructions

1. Select a fabric that you like. If you are making team bandannas, choose a common color or fabric you can all use to make your bandannas out of. Another idea is to use very plain fabric and then use fabric paints to add your own design or even your team name to the bandanna.

2. Measure and cut a square piece of the fabric that is 23 inches by 23 inches in length. If you plan to paint the fabric, use small brushes and various colors of fabric paints and allow the paint to dry overnight before handling the fabric any further.

3. Fold each side of your square ¼ of an inch inward and pin. Begin sewing around your square using small close stitches until you have hemmed all the way around your fabric. If you have a sewing machine, you can use this. Fold your bandanna in half diagonally and then wrap it around your head as you like.

Boys' Water Birthday Party Ideas

Sprinklers are just one option for an outdoor birthday party.

When planning a birthday party for young boys, you'll need more than the requisite kid-friendly food, yummy cake and goodie bags for the guests. With a house full of energetic boys, a full schedule of activities is a must. If your party is in the warm months, make water play the main event. Does this Spark an idea?

Water Balloons

There are more ways to use a water balloon than simply tossing it back and forth and waiting for it to burst. How about water balloon baseball? Instead of a baseball, have someone pitch a water balloon and let the boys take turns hitting it, getting soaked in the process. Dodgeball, a quintessential childhood game, also lends itself to outdoor water parties. Choose teams for water balloon dodgeball and let the boys have at it by tossing the balloons at each other. Place a kiddie pool in the middle to hold plenty of pre-filled water balloons. Give a prize to the child who stays the driest.

Slip 'N Slide

The iconic Slip 'N Slide has been a staple of outdoor water fun since 1961 and shows no signs of decline. Purchase multiple Slip 'N Slides and place them outside under the sprinklers, preferably on a hill. The boys will have fun for hours just slipping and sliding down the hill. You can also plan a kickball game and place the Slip 'N Slide between third base and home plate, letting the boys slide home effortlessly every time.

Squirt Guns

Take the standard squirt gun fight up a notch with squirt gun tag. Fill a bucket of water for each boy and color the water using food coloring. Identify one person to be "it" and let the other boys tag him with their colored water. You'll know he's been tagged when he's covered in a blotch of another color, and then someone else can be "it." Give each of the boys a plain white T-shirt to wear while playing this game, so you'll be able to see the water blotches. Think of it as paintball for kids.

Obstacle Course

Create an obstacle course featuring everything that drips, goes splat and gets the boys drenched. Set up a target and have the boys use a squirt gun to shoot it. From there, have them jump rope in the sprinkler. Use the Slip 'N Slide or a large tarp and set up folding tables for them to slide under. If you don't have tables, set the Slip 'N Slide on a hill and have the boys slide into a kiddie pool. Hang a rope off a sturdy tree or swing set and have the boys swing over a kiddie pool filled with water or water balloons. For the final leg of the course, have them run with water balloons between their knees. Whoever finishes the relay first gets a prize.

Troubleshoot A Raptor Paintball

Paintball guns need to work properly in order to compete in a game.

Paintball is a high-intensity, combat-style sport played with gas-powered guns that shoot plastic, paint-filled balls. The game mimics a military combat environment, and is generally played among several teams on private land. As with all weapons, periodic mechanical problems may arise with Brass Eagle Raptor paintball guns. Learning troubleshoot your Raptor paintball gun will ensure that you know fix a problem if your weapon fails to perform while in the field or during practice.

Instructions

1. Check to ensure that the gas cylinder is secured properly in the housing. Improperly installed gas cylinders will cause the weapon to fire poorly or not fire at all.

2. Check the battery for correct installation and connection. Note that batteries are equipped only on some Raptor paintball guns.

3. Inspect the safety mechanism and power switch. If the weapon is on the "safe" setting, then the weapon cannot be fired. Additionally, if the weapon marker isn't in the "on" position, the weapon will not operate.

4. Check the hopper and feed tube to ensure that no ammunition is stuck and blocking the feed. Sometimes two or more paintballs can feed into the chamber from the hopper and jam the feeding process. Place the weapon on safe. Remove the hopper and clear the obstruction.

5. Inspect the barrel and check to ensure that its secured properly. A loose or faulty barrel can cause poor range and accuracy.

Splatter Paint Cake

Paint-splattered cake gives the viewer the illusion that paint was spilled over the top and sides of the cake. A paint-splattered cake has a variety of uses. This splatter technique is ideal for use with a art-themed cake, an 80s-themed cake or as a casual and unusual way to decorate any other cake. You do not have to have any special tools or cake decorating experience to make a splatter paint cake. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Ice the cake with buttercream icing. If desired, roll out some fondant with a rolling pin and lay it over the cake to give the cake a smooth texture. Cut away any excess fondant with a dull knife.

2. Thin one cup of royal icing with 1/4 of a cup of water or milk. Add enough liquid to give the paint a runny texture. The icing should look like thick soup, but not so thin as to look like water or juice. Mix the icing with a whisk as you are thinning to prevent lumps.

3. Divide the icing into four smaller containers to make four 1/4 cup containers of icing. Add three or four drops of liquid food coloring to dye the icing into pastel colors. Add eight to 10 drops of coloring to make deep colors.

4. Dip a clean, food-safe paintbrush in the icing. Flick the icing onto the surface of the cake using your wrist. Make as many splatters on the cake and whatever combination of colors as you want.

5. Allow the icing to harden for several hours before covering the cake with a lid or plastic wrap. You can use plastic wrap on a fondant-based cake, but the plastic will stick to buttercream icing, even after it hardens.

Make Your Own Rubber Ball With Borax Glue

Make your own rubber ball.

You can make your own rubber ball with Borax and glue and other ingredients you might already have around the house. This fun scientific experiment yields a bouncing rubber ball that can be colored with common food coloring.

Instructions

1. Mix 1 tbs. of Borax into 1/2 cup of warm water in a plastic cup. Stir with a craft stick until mostly dissolved. Often some powder remains on the bottom undissolved. This is normal.

2. Put 3 tsp. of plain white glue in another cup. Using a clean stick, stir in 2 to 3 drops of food coloring. Mix well. Try combining drops of different colors for more variety.

3. Pour the glue mixture into the Borax solution. The glue mixture will begin to thicken immediately. Stir with a stick as long as possible but do not leave in the solution too long. The mixture's consistency will improve as you knead it.

4. Pick the solidified glue mixture up out of the Borax solution once it is too thick to stir. Knead the solid material with your hands. If the mixture remains too sticky, dip the mass back into the Borax solution briefly and continue to knead until you are able to form a bouncing ball shape.

5. Store your rubber ball made with Borax and glue in a plastic bag or plastic storage bowl with a lid.

Play Ps Ntscj Games On A Ps2 Or Ps3

Enjoying games from around the world is becoming easier.

Japan has produced many video games for the PlayStation that have did not reach the market in North America. Many of those games, such as Metal Gear Solid Integral, have received critical acclaim. For years, North American gamers have been importing such Japanese PlayStation systems and games. Now, with the recent release of the PS2 and PS3, playing these authentic Japanese PlayStation games has become easier.

Instructions

The Simplest Way First

1. In 2006, Sony released the highly anticipated PlayStation 3. This system followed suit with the PlayStation 2 and offered full backward compatibility of the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 library. However, the newest feature of the system was the inclusion of region free game playing. This meant that the system could play any PS1 and PS2 games from any of the video game regions: PAL, NTSC, and NTSC-J.

Unfortunately, Sony soon discontinued the production of the 20gb, 60gb and 80gb models. Region free gaming remained, but only for PS3 titles.

The only way to play NTSC-J games on a PS3 is to purchase an initial launch model PS3. As of 2010, these systems are still fairly easy to track down for a reasonable price, albeit a bit higher than the newer models due to the inclusion of backward compatibility.

2. Track down and purchase a used 20gb, 60gb or 80gb PS3 system.

3. Import NTSC-J games. These games are very rarely found in local pawn shops or used game stores, so importing is a far better option.

4. Insert the NTSC-J game into the backward compatible/region free PS3.

The More Complicated Way

5. If the appropriate PS3 model is out of your price range or you are unable to track one down, there is still another option available. This option requires any model of a PlayStation 2 system and the DVD Swap Magic disc. The PS2 cannot play NTSC-J games as it is. Swap Magic is a program that will boot on the PS2 and allow you to insert an NTSC-J game without powering off the system.

Note: This is not an illegal modification and will not void any system warranties.

6. Purchase the appropriate set of DVD Swap Magic Discs. One place to find discs is at http://www.swapmagic3.com/. This product is not available in stores.

7. Purchase any of the necessary tools according to the model of PS2 you have. If you have the PS2 Slim, it is highly recommended that you use the Magic Switch Pro tool. This tool does not require any console modification or case adjustments that would void your warranty.

If you have any other model of PS2 besides the Slim, you will need the Slide Tool.

Non-Slim PS2 and Slide Tool

8. Remove the front cover of the disc tray before powering on the system. This can be done by opening the system tray while it is powered on and unclipping the front cover. This can easily be reattached in the future.

9. Turn the system on and insert the correct Swap Magic Disc. Wait until the screen displays "Insert Disc."

If you are trying to play a CD based NTSC-J game then insert the Swap Magic CD-R disc. If you are trying to play a DVD based NTSC-J game then insert the Swap Magic DVD-R.

10. Run the Slide Tool gently beneath the disc tray from the left to the right. The tray will pop out.

11. Insert the game you wish to play.

Slim PS2 and Magic Switch Pro

12. Before installing the Magic Switch Pro, familiarize yourself with the diagram that is included with the Switch. There are only three parts that need to be installed and each are clearly labeled A, B and C.

13. Open the disc cover and install the three pieces.

A: Place this piece into the slot just behind the Power/Reset button.

B: Slide the disk reader all the way to the right and gently place this piece just below the reader into a slot on the right.

C: Set this piece into a slot on the left side of the disc tray just below the spring that opens the cover.

15. Insert the NTSC-J game you wish to play.

How Is The Food Coloring Carmine Made

What Is Carmine and Where Does it Come From

Carmine is a red coloring that is used in a variety of food products. Carmine is added to everything from fruit juices, to gelatins and candies, to heighten the red coloring and make it more appealing to consumers. The brighter the color, as manufacturers insist, the more likely that consumers will buy the product. Therefore, manufacturers add carmine food coloring to products as a marketing tool. The carmine has no additional flavor and adds no nutritional value to food products.

What most consumers do not know is that carmine is actually coloring that comes from beetles. The beetles are harvested specifically to extract the carminic acid that creates the familiar red food coloring. Carmine is not harmful to consumers. Specifically, manufacturers harvest the females of the beetle, dactylopius coccus, which subsists on a cactus called opuntia. The harvesting occurs after the females have fertilized their eggs. The majority of carmine is harvested in Peru and the Canary Islands, then imported to the United States.

How the Beetles are Harvested

The harvesting process begins when the beetles are taken from the cacti where they are grown and placed in bags. The bags are taken to the production facility that manufactures the cochineal (the material that makes the actual carminic acid from which the dye is created). There they are killed in various processes that either involve immersing them in hot water or exposing them to heat, such as sunlight, steam or oven heat. Producing the cochineals requires an inordinate amount of insects. For instance, 70,000 insects make up at least 1 pound of cochineal. Therefore thousands upon thousands of these beetles are grown, harvested and killed for their cochineal.

How Carmine Is Made

The process in which the dyes are made begins after the beetles are dried. The abdomens and fertilized eggs of the beetles, which contain the most carminic acid, are removed from the bodies. The abdomen and eggs are ground down into a fine powder, which is then baked in ovens at 212 degrees F or more. The baking process breaks down the particles in the grounded powder from which the actual color of the carminic acid is distilled. The particles of carmine are then separated from the baked solution through a filtering process. The solution is placed in a cooking container. The particles of carmine fall to the bottom of the container, creating two layers-- liquid and carmine. Once the liquid is removed from the container, the extracted carmine is left behind. This is the purest form of carmine, which is then used to create the food coloring dye.

Airsoft Gun Laws In California

The California Dangerous Weapons Control Law regulates the use of imitation firearms like this one.

Like any weapon, Airsoft guns are subject to laws and regulations regarding their storage, use and transportation. Due to the high resemblance between Airsoft replica weapons and real weapons, along with the damage that Airsoft weapons can inflict, owners of Airsoft guns should familiarize themselves with the legislation regarding their weaponry. In California, the law considers Airsoft weapons to be both BB devices and imitation firearms under the 2008 Dangerous Weapons Control Law, therefore all the portions of the law that apply to BB guns or imitation firearms also apply to Airsoft weapons.

Transfer to Minors

California law regulates the manner in which minors can acquire and utilize BB devices, a category that includes Airsoft weapons. Section 12551 of the Dangerous Weapons Control Law states, "Every person who sells to a minor any BB device is guilty of a misdemeanor." Section 12552 expands on that, defining any transfer or loan of a BB device to a minor "without the express or implied permission of the parent or legal guardian of the minor" as a misdemeanor.

Coloration and Warnings

As imitation weapons, the maker must color Airsoft guns in such a way to distinguish them from real firearms. Under section 12553, anyone who alters an imitation weapon so it more closely resembles a real weapon, or any manufacturer, importer, or distributor who fails to mark the imitation weapon properly, is guilty of a misdemeanor. Section 12553 mandates that an advisory go out with imitation weaponry sold in the state to tell the consumer about the contents of section 12553.

Public Display

California's laws about the open display of firearms in public places also apply to Airsoft guns. Section 12556 explains that in a public place, defined as "an area open to the public," anyone who displays or exposes an imitation firearm risks a fine of $100 for the first offense, $300 for the second, and will face a misdemeanor charge for the third offense. The law does not apply when the weapon is in its package, or predominantly "white, bright red, bright orange, bright yellow, bright green, bright blue, bright pink, or bright purple." The law also does not apply to weapons used in a certified or regulated athletic competition, lawful hunting or pest control, a theatrical production, or other permitted activities.
