Guns that are classified as 'antique' by the National Firearms Act (NFA) are guns that are not designed to use current firing and ammunition. Antique guns were generally made before 1898 and are considered collectors items because they are not designed to use as a weapon. Antique guns hold historic and monetary value to collectors based on unique characteristics and rarity. Appraisers and gun researchers can help identify antique guns.
Instructions
Identify Antique Guns
1. Read the National Firearms Act (NFA) to understand what makes a gun an antique (see Resources below). Antique guns are a special category under the NFA and do not have the same licensing requirements as other firearms.
2. Make a list of gun information to help you or a professional identify the gun. Include the type, action, caliber, measurements and markings of the gun in your list. List all information known about the gun's workings, and include all lengths.
3. Note the markings on the guns. Record any numbers, letters or design on the guns to help research information about the guns. Communicate make and model information when known.
4. Take notice of the gun's construction. Write down details about wood or metal components, and identify the type of metal or wood when possible. Gun materials can help point to the origins of a gun and when it was made.
5. Hire an appraiser to identify your antique gun. An appraiser should be able to furnish you with identification information and a market value.
6. Familiarize yourself with the condition standards for antique firearms. It can be helpful for collectors to know what condition their gun is in to communicate accurately to researchers who identify antique guns and their values.
7. Telephone the Federal Firearms Licensing Center (FFLC) of the BATF at 1-866-662-2750 with questions about your antique guns. The FFLC can help ensure your guns are properly registered.
Treat him to a special surprise, like a roast for his 30th birthday.
The 30th birthday is a milestone worthy of a large celebration. In the past, this was sometimes referred to as the "over the hill" birthday or the midlife birthday. Today it's better to focus on the life of the person and their experiences, rather than any negative connotations of the day. Birthday party ideas for a man's 30th birthday party give you elaborate ways to celebrate his big day. Does this Spark an idea?
30th Party Roast
A roast is a light way to celebrate a man's 30th birthday and make him laugh. Guests take turns telling stories and making jokes about the person, which makes everyone in the group chuckle. Inform guests of the party theme weeks before the event, which gives them time to work on their material. Place the birthday boy, the main speakers and his close family, at a table in the front of the room. A podium placed in the center of the table provides a space for the speakers. Serve dinner after the roast and drinks before. Make sure that the birthday boy has a good sense of humor before hosting a roast in his honor.
Food Through the Decades
Create four separate food stations for the party, one for each decade they've experienced and a fourth for the next decade. The first station is for childhood and requires the simple food they loved as a kid, such as macaroni and cheese, miniature cheeseburgers, sloppy joes and hot dogs. The second station is for the foods they ate or made as a teen. Look for miniature pizzas and microwave or quick cooking foods. Focus the third station on foods they ate in college and in the early years of their career, including ramen noodles and brownies. The fourth station requires more upscale food and the kind of foods they may enjoy in the future. Try international foods, like Thai or sushi.
Casino Night
Turn their 30th birthday party into a celebration by hosting a casino night in your home. Rent the equipment from a party supply store, limiting yourself to one of each table or machine. If you have more space available you can rent multiples. Create different spaces in the room for card games, dice games and any other games you offer. Line the floors with red velvet to make the room feel more upscale. Serve martinis and simple finger foods that won't distract guests from their games.

Widdy is an American dart manufacturer. American darts are completely different than the kind used in English dartboard games. With the weight in the nose, and three flight wings attached, Widdy darts are distinguishable by their blue and stamped words, "Official Tournament," and "Widdy Dart Mfg. Philadelphia, PA No. 1."
Gameplay
While playing darts, players waiting their turn are to remain behind the shooting line. Players getting ready to shoot must "toe" the line from which they're shooting. Each player is expected to throw three darts for each turn and complete all three before the competitor shoots. If teams are competing, then each player on a team completes his turn before the next team shoots.
Dartboard
The Widdy dartboard is not the traditional "bullseye" dartboard you might be used to. Rather it is broken into pie-shaped pieces that extend, pointing toward the center, outward. Each piece goes from the red center cork in the middle outwards through the red and white ring, and stops at the blue ring.
Scoring
Scoring is done in three separate sections. The largest area is the first scoring section and covers all the uncolored area from the red cork in the center to the outer red ring. Referred to as "the single," this area is worth one point. The outer red ring is the second scoring area, referred to as "the red," and is worth two points. The thin uncolored outer ring that runs between the blue and red ring is known as "the trips" and is the third scoring area. Three points are assessed for darts that land in the trips. Landing a dart on the outer blue ring draws no points.
Practical Example
Player 1 throws three darts and gets two in the red (2 ea) and one in the blue (0). His competitor, Player 2, throws three darts and gets one in the single (1) and two in the trips (3 ea). Total Score: Player 1 = 4, Player 2 = 7. Player 2 wins the round.
Additional Tips
A dart must remain in the board to be counted for points, no bounced or falling darts count. If a dart falls out while the player is throwing his remaining darts, it doesn't count. Should one dart stick into another dart somehow, it doesn't count. Should a dart land in the wire between two sections (referred to as a "split wire"), the higher of the points of the two sections will be counted.

Paintball is a growing sport. These miniature war games feature guns that shoot small paintballs. The balls rupture on contact and mark the hit on a competitor with splash paint. Paintball shells are made of gelatin with a nontoxic, water-soluble paint filling. All ingredients are biodegradable. Paintballs are perishable and have a limited shelf life. There are three factors that affect not only the integrity of paintball itself but also the accuracy of the "ammo" and the wear and tear on your paintball guns.
Poorly Made Paintballs
The quality of paintball ammunition is not uniformly high. Poorly made paintballs can break easily, messing up the inside of your paintball guns. They also can resist breaking and hurt when they hit you. Check with local players at paintball fields and find out where the best quality ammo can be purchased locally. Paying an extra dollar or so for well-made ammo can make a big difference in your game and may save you from a terrible fate if your ammo fails you in combat.
Old Paintballs
Paintballs have a limited shelf life. If you store them longer than about three months, even high-quality balls can degrade. Paintballs work well at most temperatures, but you should take care not to store them where there are extremes of heat. When they get too warm, the gelatin shell of the paintball can soften and the ball may become distorted or dimpled and make your shots inaccurate. A distorted paintball curves through the air when fired. Store bags of paintballs flat and flip them over every couple of days to prevent distortion.
Keep your ammo between 60 to 70 degrees if you can, even while playing. It doesn't take long to ruin a whole box of paintballs in the sun or a hot trunk. The heat can also affect the paint inside the paintballs, causing them to harden or thicken and preventing them from breaking properly when fired.
Humidity and Cold Temperatures
Paintballs do not do well when they get cold. Cold can cause the gelatin shells to develop weak spots you cannot see. Once they are degraded by the cold, there isn't anything you can do to fix them. You can't always tell if paintballs have been degraded by cold. Sometimes they can be exposed to extremes of cold in shipment to the store where you buy them. Make sure your dealer transports paintballs in a heated vehicle or trailer. If you play in the cold, only take as many paintballs as you think you will use in each game. Leave your extra ammo in a building or warm place while you play. Also avoid exposure to humid conditions. It's a good idea to keep your extra ammo in a sealed plastic box or sealable plastic bag.

A paint sprayer can cover an area with more precision than brush strokes by hand can. You can make a disposable paint sprayer gun using compressed air that will let you direct paint at any area that you want, large or small. The paint sprayer gun will be made from a few household items and a deodorant spray can which has more compressed air in it than that of a paint spray can. Your paint sprayer gun will provide a more powerful spray of paint as well as being able to paint for a much longer time than that of a typical paint spray can. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Remove the lid from the deodorant spray can. Aim the nozzle inside of a toilet. Press down on the nozzle. Release the nozzle after 10 seconds have passed.
2. Put a sheet of newspaper on a table. Stand the deodorant spray can on the newspaper.
3. Pull off the nozzle from the plastic tube at the top end of the deodorant spray can. Put the nozzle aside.
4. Stand the black spray can on the newspaper with the lid down. Leave the black spray can alone for a day so that the paint settles to the bottom.
5. Hold the disposable plastic pen by the back end using your left hand. Hold the pliers in your right hand. Clamp the pliers around the metal barrel at the front end of the disposable plastic pen. Twist the pliers to break off the metal barrel.
6. Shake the disposable plastic pen with the point where the metal barrel was facing down.
7. Grab the ink tube sticking out of the point with your fingers. Pull the ink tube out of the point. Discard the disposable plastic pen.
8. Pull the ink cartridge out of the ink tube. Discard the ink cartridge.
9. Pick up the black spray can. Remove the lid from the black spray can.
10. Aim the nozzle of the black spray can inside of a trash bag. Press down on the nozzle. Release the nozzle after ten seconds have passed.
11. Put the black spray can on its side on the newspaper. Pull the nozzle off of the plastic tube at the top end of the black spray can. Put the nozzle aside.
12. Wedge one end of the ink tube over the deodorant spray can's plastic tube. Upend the black spray can over the deodorant spray can. Wedge the free end of the ink tube over the black spray can's plastic tube.
13. Hold the deodorant spray can on the newspaper with your left hand. Press down hard on the top of the black spray can using your left hand. Stop pressing down on the black spray can when the hissing sounds coming from the black spray can cease.
14. Remove the black spray can. Dispose of it properly.
15. Put the nozzle back onto the plastic tube at the top of the deodorant spray can. Shake the compressed air spray gun you have made for 10 seconds. Aim it at the surface you want to paint and depress the nozzle.
Polyoxymethylene (POM) is a plastic marketed under various trade names, especially Delrin, in the United States. It has other common names such as acetal resin, polyacetal, polytrioxane and polyformaldehyde. Delrin is an engineering plastic that consists of long chains of the monomer OCH2 and is often used as a substitute for metal. Delrin is a low-friction material with high resistance to heat, making it especially useful for ball bearings. This plastic also has a low level of toxicity and is safe for food applications.
Instructions
1. You can replace metal ball bearings with Delrin. Its low coefficient of friction and high resistance to corrosion make ball bearings the most common application for Delrin. The first use of Delrin was in phonograph turntables.
2. Delrin is approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use as food containers. Moving toy parts are frequently made from Delrin since it will cause little harm if ingested by a child.
3. The light weight and low friction of this plastic also makes it a popular material for many of the parts in a paintball gun, especially the bolts and pump handles. These applications also benefit from Delrin's high resistance to liquids.
4. Delrin has a low porosity to gas when it's under pressure and its light weightalso makes it a good choice for gas tanks, regulators and hoses.
5. You can play guitar with Delrin. Delrin is one the most common choices of materials for guitar picks. It doesn't slip easily and has better wear resistance than nylon.

A pair of custom-made, hand painted shoes can cost quite a lot of money in vintage and specialty stores. Take the more inexpensive route and paint shoes yourself. With a little bit of talent and some specialty paint markers, you can turn an old pair of sneakers into some crazy kicks. You may want to practice on a piece of fabric or leather of similar texture, or a spare pair of old shoes, before attempting to turn your favorite shoes into works of art. Although you can use just about any type of marker to draw on your shoes, not all will be waterproof, fade resistant, and have a smooth application.
Significance
Painting on shoes originated around the same time that graffiti paint markers became popular as an alternative to spray paint in the 1990s. Now that specialized markers were being used, almost anything could be tagged with graffiti, including shoes. Before the popularization of paint pens, spray paint could be used to imprecisely design shoes, as well as Sharpie and ballpoint pen. Both Sharpie and ballpoint pen, however, were prone to fading, even though they were able to provide the detail that spray paint couldn't.
Types
Different types of paint pens that work on shoes include pens designed for clothing, pens designed for graffiti, and pens designed for leather. Angelus leather paint is widely recognized as the best markers to use when customizing leather sneakers. Shoes always look best when they are originally white. This way, the color of the paint will not be mixed with any other base colors on the sneakers. Angelus leather paint markers come in standard, neon, and metallic colors and are water-resistant. For waterproof, durable shoes, an acrylic finisher can be painted or sprayed onto the sneakers.
Considerations
Leather paint markers like Angelus are available only at specialty art stores, graffiti stores, or on the Internet. Some stores may require that you be 18 in order to purchase paint markers, and others may keep their markers behind a glass case. This is for the safety of individuals who may want to purchase the markers in bulk, in order to huff the chemical fumes that these markers emit. Do not let these security measures keep you from purchasing the markers you need to create your shoe designs. Explain to the salesperson that you are doing an art project that requires more than one marker to complete the project.
Function
Angelus leather paint markers can also be used on leather pants, furniture, light-colored dress shoes, leather bags, and other items made of leather or faux leather. If you would like to paint shoes that are not leather, fabric markers such as Fabrico Dual Tip Fabric Markers and Molotow Markers. If you would like to paint shoes that are made of a material other than leather or fabric, the Uni Posca Extra Broad Line Marker is a waterproof marker designed for plastic, wood, glass, and other materials.
Warning
Use paint markers only in a well-ventilated area. Place newspaper over your work surface, as most paint markers are permanent. Do not breathe or inhale paint markers. Keep all paint markers out of the way of children. Let paint on shoes dry for at least 48 hours before wearing or washing. Apply a spray or paint sealant over dry coat of paint to keep the colors from bleeding or fading. If you are under 18, do not attempt to purchase paint markers.
Before pouring concrete you must set in place anchor bolts for your walls, columns or machinery that will be installed on top of your pour. Anchor bolts are J-shaped; the foot of the "J" allows the bolt to anchor itself into the concrete and keep it from sliding out from the weight and tension of what it is holding in place. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Read your project plans to determine the spacing and location of your anchor bolts. If you are preparing to pour the foundation support for a wood framed wall, look for the spacing for a line of J bolts that the sill plate of the wall will be attached to. If you are going to be standing columns or metal framed walls, or bolting machinery or tanks in place on top of a slab, look for the anchor plate locations on the plans.
2. Measure and cut several 2 by 4s so that they can span across the concrete forms. Nail these pieces into place but make sure they are high enough to remain above the level of your concrete pour.
3. Measure and mark the location of the J bolts to be installed. (For a wall support, the mark will typically fall in the center of the form.) Mark the support 2 by 4s and skip to Step 5. For an anchor plate support, go to Step 4.
4. Mark the center of the bolts on your plywood bolt template. (Your bolt template is a piece of wood that is the exact size of the anchor plate of the base of the column or machinery that will be installed on the bolts later.) Mark the center of the bolts on the template and drill bolt holes with a drill and paddle bit. Nail the template onto your 2x4 supports so the center of the template matches the center of the anchor plate that will be placed later. (You will find the center locations on your project plan.) When finished, go to Step 6.
5. Make a mark that is offset from the center of your bolts 1/2 the diameter of the J bolt you will be installing. Nail a long 2 by 4 across the support 2 by 4s so that one edge is lined up on this offset mark.
6. Set your J bolts in your templates. For a wall template, tie the J bolt to the long 2 by 4 at the required spacing for your sill plate. Use tie wire and Linesman pliers to attach the bolt to the 2 by 4. Make sure that the J bolt extends deep enough in the pour to meet your project depth guidelines. For a bolt template, pass the bolt through the holes in the plywood and spin a nut on each bolt to suspend it in the concrete. Check that the bolt extends into the concrete for the required depth.
7. Wrap the threads of each bolt with duct tape. (This will prevent concrete from filling the threads and making it difficult to get the nuts on or off later.)

Getting the best shot when hunting comes from blending in with nature, being undetected by the prey you are seeking. A key step to being unnoticed in the wild is using a camouflage suit, also known as a ghillie suit. By following these steps and putting the time and effort into creating a camo suit, you can increase your hunting productivity. The whole suit can be made for as little as $65 to $75 in 2009.
Instructions
Making your suit
1. Blending in. Start by selecting a set of coveralls or military BDUs. JCPenney and other department store coveralls work just fine. Now think about your color scheme. Nature is seldom only one color, so you want a blotchy look. You need a variety of tones for your coveralls and jute netting. Using some strips of old military fatigues or old clothes can give your camouflage counter shades: darker colors high and lighter colors lower. Black, tan, brown, light green and dark green are all colors you want to have included in your suit. Different color threads when sewing the jute also helps add to the color scheme. You want to make yourself invisible in nature. Being decked out properly and staying still can get creatures walking right in front of you--or possibly on you!
2. Drapes and coveralls: Attach kneepads and elbowpads to the coveralls. (You'll be glad you did.) Drape jute landscaping net over the coveralls. You want as much as 18 inches of excess to cover arms and hands. Cut away netting you do not need.
3. Tying it together: Sew jute or badmitton netting to the coverall. This will hold the jute in place (Old military fatigues or old clothes can be tied to jute with burlap strips or fishing line to add to the camouflage look.) The sewing effort is labor intensive; it may easily take between 8 and 30 hours. But it is a necessary step and has to be done right, without shortcuts. If adding fatigues or clothes to jute, make sure to double knot each tie to keep it in place. Use a strong thread when attaching jute. Common thread is not strong enough and will tear with motion. Use ivy, branches and leaves from the area where you are hunting to add to the stealth presence.
4. Keep covered: Don't forget to keep your head covered. Use a camouflage hat or a hood with jute netting over it to keep you hidden in the wild.
5. Cover the gun: Don't forget to wrap your gun in camouflage tape.

The "potato masher" hand grenade that the Germans used in Word War I consisted of an explosive at the end of a stick. This allowed even the most inexperienced soldier to be able to toss the grenade with a fair amount of accuracy. You can build a replica of the "potato masher" using paper, a metal can of soup from the grocery store and some household supplies. Your stick grenade won't actually cause any harm, but you can certainly toss it at any imaginary target you want to "blow up."
Instructions
1. Put newspaper down on a table. Put a piece of wax paper down on the newspaper. Put the flashlight on its side down on the table with the reflector facing to the left.
2. Shake the can of black spray paint. Spray the flashlight. Let the paint dry for 2 hours. Turn the flashlight over. Shake the can of black spray paint. Spray the flashlight. Let the paint dry for 2 hours.
3. Remove the wax paper from under the flashlight. Toss the wax paper into the garbage can.
4. Place a sheet of gray construction paper down on the newspaper. Stand the metal soup can on the gray construction paper.
5. Draw around the bottom of the metal soup can with the black magic marker. Remove the metal soup can from the gray construction paper.
6. Cut out the circle in the gray construction paper with the utility knife.
7. Put the cut out-circle on the gray construction paper. Cut around the circle with the utility knife to create a second cut-out circle.
8. Cut off one end of the metal soup can with a can opener. Empty out the metal soup can. Cut off the other end of the metal soup can with the can opener.
9. Stand the handle of the flashlight on the center of one of the two circles. Cut around the handle with the utility knife. Remove the circle that was just cut out from the inside of the cut-out circle with your fingers.
10. Stand the metal soup can on the newspaper. Wrap the other sheet of gray construction paper around the metal soup can. Secure the gray construction paper to the metal soup can at the top, middle and bottom with cellophane tape.
11. Cut off the excess gray construction paper from the top and bottom of the metal soup can using the utility knife.
12. Pull the metal soup can out of the gray construction paper cylinder. Discard the metal soup can in the trash properly.
13. Wad up some newspaper. Place wadded-up newspaper into the gray construction paper cylinder.
14. Apply white glue to one side of one of the circles that has the flashlight handle-sized circle cut out of its center. Put the side of the circle that has glue on it onto one end of the gray construction paper cylinder.
15. Push the circle down so that it adheres to the wadded-up newspaper inside of the gray construction paper cylinder.
16. Turn the gray construction paper cylinder over. Apply white glue to one end of the other cut-out circle. Place the end of the cut-out circle that has the glue on it onto the end of the gray construction paper cylinder.
17.Push the circle down so that it adheres to the wadded-up newspaper inside of the gray construction paper cylinder. Turn the gray construction paper cylinder over.
18. Insert the handle of the flashlight into the hole in the center of the cut-out circle. Apply bonding glue around the hole to cement the handle of the flashlight to the hole. Let the bonding glue dry for a day.
19. Pick up your "potato masher" grenade by the bottom of the flashlight. Pretend to activate the fuse and toss it at the "enemy."

Silenced weapons are often used by members of the special forces.
Anyone who has watched a James Bond film or any movie involving special forces incursions is familiar with gun silencers. More accurately known as gun suppressors, silencers have evolved over the decades alongside their firearm counterparts. Responsible for more than simply lessening the sound of gunfire, silencers are an essential piece of equipment when stealth is needed.
Firearm Sound Creation
The notion of a firearm "silencer" is a misnomer, as no firearm can be completely silenced. The term "suppressor" is far more accurate.
There are four types of sound created by a fired weapon. The first is the mechanical sound of the pin striking the round, followed by the chambering of a new cartridge. The second is the rapid expansion of combusted gases emerging from the muzzle, creating the characteristic "bang." The third is created as the bullet surpasses the speed of sound after leaving the barrel, creating a miniature sonic boom. The fourth is the sound a bullet makes as it travels through the air.
The first sound type (mechanical) is usually too quiet to earn the effort of suppression. The third type (sonic boom) cannot be suppressed, with the exception of using subsonic ammunition. The fourth type (bullet travel) also cannot be suppressed, due to the nature of fluid dynamics. However, the second type can be suppressed with the proper equipment.
Suppression
The basic suppressor "can" is screwed onto the muzzle of a firearm, containing a multitude of small metal pockets and holes throughout. As the rapidly expanding gases explode out of the muzzle, they are compressed in the maze of tubes and released in a controlled arc away from the shooter. A significant portion of the sound energy is converted into heat, in accordance with Newton's Law of Thermodynamics.
The resulting sound produced can be 18-32 decibels (dB) quieter with supersonic ammunition and 40 dB quieter with subsonic ammunition.
Other Functions
Suppressors can reduce the recoil of a firearm by up to 30 percent, acting as a highly efficient muzzle break. This characteristic of suppressors allows for longer training periods and less shoulder injury due to frequent practice with high-caliber weapons.
Suppressors also significantly decrease muzzle flash, which is the burst of light created by the combusting gases exiting the muzzle. This characteristic of suppressors has obvious applications in nighttime warfare, particularly for snipers.
Usage
Suppressors are used by special forces entry teams, as the devices allow for greater control and the elimination of ear protection. The specific sound created by suppressed weapons is more difficult for enemies to pinpoint and acts to distinguish enemy gunfire from that of friendly units.
Military snipers often use suppressors due to the high-caliber weapons they must fire, as well as for the substantial decrease of muzzle flash. Urban police forces also outfit sniper teams with suppressors, as a suppressed shot is less likely to attract public relations issues.
Legalities
Suppressors are available to American citizens of certain states. The possession of such a device requires a $200 fee paid to the United States government, a background check and the signature of a chief law enforcement officer. After these conditions are met, a suppressor can be purchased from an authorized Type III weapons dealer.
Gunsmiths work with many different kinds of firearms.
Gunsmiths are trained to do everything from troubleshoot and repair firearms to create custom rifles and pistols. Whether you already enjoy fixing the guns in your collection or are simply a devoted do-it-yourselfer, learning to gunsmith can prove to be a useful hobby, as well as a potentially lucrative business. If you're a natural mechanic, chemist or artisan who enjoys woodworking and engraving, you may have what it takes to become an at-home gunsmith.
Instructions
1. Find out what level of training you'll require. If you want to carry out simple repairs, sight in scopes and add on mail-order parts, then you'll only need to take some basic gunsmithing classes (see Resources). If you want to acquire master gunsmith skills so that you can machine custom parts yourself, construct custom rifles and load special rounds, then you'll require extensive coursework, an apprenticeship and certification as an armorer.
2. Take gunsmithing lessons. There are basically three routes you can take: First, you can enroll in a reputable gunsmithing school and learn professional techniques and tips before applying these skills to your home shop---this option will offer you the most training possible in the least amount of time. Second, you can become a part-time or full-time apprentice and learn the skills you need over seven-plus years (see Resources). This option offers a wealth of in-depth gunsmithing knowledge, but how much you learn depends on the person you apprentice under and takes a long time. Third, you can learn through an online course or buy a DVD set that features gunsmithing lessons. Although you may learn more from a school or apprenticeship program, taking online or video lessons from your home is entirely possible if you have the technical aptitude to do so. Some online and DVD lessons (see Resources) are inexpensive, yet still thorough and educational.
3. Find a workspace for your gunsmithing tools. You'll want a well-lit space that has plenty of electrical outlets and allows you to be loud. Make sure the space is properly ventilated for safety purposes, which means there should be a vented ceiling or window fan removing the air from the room. If you don't have proper ventilation, this will limit the kind of work you can do.
Master gunsmithing activities include machining metal parts, using chemicals, sanding, carving, varnishing, grinding, beveling and engraving. This means you will require a strong work table that should be partially carpeted or padded to protect delicate materials. If you want to make your workspace organized and appealing, clamp a magnifying lamp over your workspace and provide lots of small drawers for organizing small parts.
4. Purchase the gunsmithing tools you plan to use in your workshop; the tools listed in the "Things You'll Need" section are a good example of what you'll want to purchase for your home gunsmithing shop. You may need to add onto your tool arsenal after you've been gunsmithing for some time and have a better idea what tools you need the most. Most gunsmithing tools can be found at such firearms suppliers as Midwayusa.com and Brownells.com.
5. Become a certified gunsmith. Although you don't need a license or permit to repair firearms, you can add more credibility and professionalism to your home business if you do this.
Gunsmith certifications are Armorer I through IV:
Armorer I certification means you're certified through experience and supervised practice.
Armorer II certification requires attendance in formal coursework or a factory school.
Armorer III certification is similar to Armorer II but for law enforcement.
Armorer IV certification is the same as Armorer II and III but for military personnel.
You can find exams to become certified at BecomeaGunsmith.com.
6. Gather clientele for your home gunsmithing business. The best way to find these clients is to go to local gun stores and firing ranges. Print up business cards and leave a stack of them at each location.
Other options include placing ads in the local newspaper, joining the local chamber of commerce and searching for clients online on firearms repair forums. Many gunsmithing repair jobs can be done by sending parts through the mail, which lends itself well to serving clients you find online.

If you are planning a party for teenagers, coming up with a location can be challenging. The party locations your teen enjoyed as a child are now out of the question. However, there are many possible party locations where your teen and his friends can get together and enjoy a memorable occasion.
Amusement Park
If your teenager and his friends love thrill rides, a full day at a large amusement park may be the perfect party solution. If you know well in advance this is what he wants to do, have him ask his friends if their parents will allow them to attend a party at the park. When each teen knows whether he can go and what day, pre-order the tickets for the determined date. Also, call the park and see if there is a place designated for having parties, such as a private area where the teens can enjoy refreshments. If there is, you may want to reserve this area, as well. Some parks are open all night and provide night-time entertainment, so take that into consideration when planning the day and getting permission from parents.
Campground
If rugged outdoor activities are more to your teenager's liking, reserving a picnic area at a nearby campground can make for an enjoyable party. If the spot is near a large body of water and the party takes place during the hot months of the year, your teen and her guests can fish, swim and canoe, in addition to playing outdoor games, enjoying nature and eating roasted marshmallows around a campfire after sunset.
Sporting Event
If your teen is a sports fan, purchasing tickets so he and his friends can attend a professional sporting event makes for a terrific party. The group can also grab a bite to eat before the big game at your teen's favorite restaurant, adding to their pre-game excitement.
Home
It may sound ordinary, but having a party at home allows versatility in planning your teen's event. One option for a home party is a flashback party, where the teens can turn back the clock by playing some of their favorite childhood games, such as musical chairs, "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" and hot potato. If you have a lot of land at your home, your teens can play a game of flag football or capture the flag. If you live outside of the city limits, they can even organize a game of paintball if each teen owns his own gear and the required safety equipment. You can additionally rent paintball equipment for the teens to use.

Create your own ghillie suit to perfect your camouflage during your next paintball match or hunting trip.
A ghillie suit was named for the Scottish shepherds who would camouflage themselves while watching their flocks of sheep. When a predator would get close to the flock the shepherds would strike, shooting the predator and protecting the flock. They became know as ghillies, and their preferred method of camouflage was a suit that concealed and obscured their shape to anyone or anything watching. Traditional ghillie suits use a netting base over the clothing, with strips of jute (or torn up burlap) tied on in different colors and lengths. The advantage of the netting is that pieces of the local flora can be incorporated into the camouflage, but it is, however, bulkier and more difficult to use. A net-less ghillie suit has the burlap attached directly to the clothing.
Instructions
1. Lay out your BDU and boonie hat. Determine where you will want your camouflage strips to be. If you will be primarily laying prone you won't want to put strips on your front. If you will be walking and crouching you will want strips on the front. If you will be bow hunting you will want to omit the strips on your bow arm and chest.
2. Cut strips of burlap between five and nine inches long and between one and two inches wide. These strips will be your camouflage. Vary the size, shape, and color to avoid creating any patterns that might stand out. Cut enough to cover the areas you want camouflaged.
3. Attach the burlap straps to the uniform. For a back-cover ghillie suit you should sew the burlap strips across the shoulders, down the top of the arms, and the small of the back on the shirt. Sew them on the back of the waist, upper legs and calves on the pants. If you want to cover your front, sew strips across the front of the shoulders and just below the ribs on your shirt; across the waistline, front of the thighs and just below the knees on the pants. Make sure you won't step on any strips as you walk.
4. Sew strips around the crown of the boonie hat. Remember to vary to length, placement, and color of the strips to avoid creating a pattern. Continue sewing down the back of the hat to cover your neck and join the hat's camouflage to that of the shirt.
5. Wear camo paint on your face and camo gloves when you go out in your ghillie suit to prevent any skin showing and giving away your position.

The following hopper pattern uses the best of both synthetic and natural materials to create a durable, visible, buoyant and accurate grasshopper pattern. Foam is the ideal synthetic material with which to tie a hopper because it is highly buoyant and stays so even after it has been munched on by several fish. When tied in conjunction with natural materials, such as turkey, it adds even more depth and profile to the fly. Having worked well for me on just about all rivers during the hot hopper summer months, I'm sure this fly will prove a success for you as well.
Instructions
Tying the Fly
1. Attach the tying thread to the hook shank and wrap it back to the bend of the hook, then tie in an Antron tag and trim to the length of the hook gap, or the distance between the shank and the point. Next, wrap the thread forward toward the hook shank, leaving the first third uncovered by the thread. Tie in the strip of brown body foam and wrap rearward until you've tied the foam down adjacent to the Antron tag. Tie in the piece of brown D-rib, then the piece of closed cell foam directly on top of that.
2. Wrap your thread forward two-thirds up the shank. Wrap the underbody foam forward and tie it off. After you've trimmed the underbody foam, pull the overbody foam forward and tie and trim it off. To finish the body of the hopper, wind the ribbing forward about five or six turns to create a segmented body; tie it down and trim it.
3. Tie in one rubber leg on each side directly in front of the body and trim to length--about the length of the body. Tie in a small clump of red Antron, separate into two equal parts and tie the wings down on opposite sides of the body. Trim the wings so that they extend just beyond the hook bend. To create an overwing, tie in the thick end of the turkey quill and trim it even with the Antron underwing.
4. Add the brown dubbing to cover the remaining amount of hook shank up to the eye. This will give your fly a head. Tie down the foam disc on top of the dubbed head. About one-third of the disk should extend over the eye of the hook while the remaining two thirds should extend over the turkey wing. Tie your thread off with a few half hitches directly behind the eye and add a small drop of head cement to ensure that it won't unravel.
Rabbit hunting is especially popular in the United Kingdom.
Rabbit hunting could require you to wait a while while the rabbit enters or exits her hole. Wear weather-appropriate clothes and take a thermos of coffee or water, depending on the time of season. When hunting rabbit or other game with an air gun, it is easy to injure rather than killing the animal. By practicing your air-gun skills beforehand, you can avoid unnecessary harm to the rabbit. You should also know the proper cleaning and cooking techniques, or know someone who does, before you make a kill.
Instructions
1. Find a rabbit hole. These are usually found in fields, but they are also in woods. Lay down around 20 to 30 yards from your target rabbit hole.
2. Wait until a rabbit pops out of the hole. Study it closely with your sights for one minute. Rabbits usually stay around their hole for a while until they feel secure. You want to wait until he moves away from his hole.
3. Be still. The rabbit is listening and smelling very cautiously as she decides whether to move away from the security of her hole. Aim your sight just behind the eye and immediately in front of the base of her ear. A body shot with an air gun would likely only wound and cause her needless pain and suffering. Between the eye and the ear is the rabbit skull's weakest point.
4. Ensure the rabbit is more than two yards away from her hole. Otherwise, she could jump down there very quickly if you miss and you won't have another opportunity for the day. Count to 10 seconds in preparation for your shot. Relax.
5. Pull the trigger. Walk up to the dead rabbit. Observe for a few seconds. If there is any movement, shoot her point blank in her head. You can also hold her by her back legs and break her neck by chopping the base of her skull with a karate chop (the pinkie side of your hand).

Paintball is one of the most popular recreational sports. But like any other sport, this activity comes with the price of various injuries, ranging in frequency of occurrence and severity.
Eye Injuries
Eye injuries are very common in paintball and can range from a small cut to the eye area or retina to permanent blindness. It is crucial to always wear reliable goggles during a game to minimize any sort of eye injury.
Eye Infections
Aside from being struck directly in the eye by a paintball, splattered paint can get into a player's mask and cause an infection to the eye area. If this occurs, it is important to wash the infected eye to prevent any further damage or vision impairment.
Welts
Welts are the most common injury in paintball but are not considered severe. When a player is hit by a paintball at a high rate of speed, it might cause broken blood vessels in the area, causing discoloration, swelling and tenderness.
Internal Organ Injuries
Common injuries to internal organs from a paintball gun usually occur to areas such as the stomach, kidneys and groin. These areas are generally not as well protected than other areas such as the face, throat and chest. Most injuries to these areas occur when a gun is fired from close range.
Bone Injuries
Bone injuries are not as common of an injury from a paintball gun but can occur at any given time. Many of the smaller bones in the body such as in the hands and feet are most vulnerable to injury from a paintball gun that is fired from close range.

Add extra cushion to your gun case with egg crate foam.
Egg crate foam is an effective cushion to use in your gun case as it helps absorb and distribute shock evenly over the surface when placing a gun for storage. Whether you are replacing worn egg crate foam or placing foam in your gun case for the first time, the method is the same. Use high-quality foam that will compress around your gun, and not leave a void for your gun or guns to slide into each other and perhaps cause damage.
Instructions
1. Use a stiff, metal scraper to remove any glue, foam or debris from the inside of the case.
2. Measure the inside of the case and cut two pieces of egg crate foam to the proper measurements with a utility knife.
3. Spray an even layer of adhesive into the case and allow it to sit for 15 to 20 seconds. Press the foam, smooth side down, firmly into the case. Allow the doors of the gun case to sit open for 30 minutes to an hour to enable the adhesive to properly dry.

The Invert Mini Paintball Marker, or gun, is made by Invert Paintball and has an anodized metal construction that ensures the pressure from the compressed air tank does not leak. A dent in the side of the Invert, while not harmful to its operation, disturbs the look and feel of the weapon. You can remove the dent using specialized tools designed to remove dents from automobiles. Tools from around the house will be needed as well.
Instructions
1. Remove the base from the butt of the Invert Mini Paintball Marker. Unscrew the compressed air tank from inside the handle and place it aside.
2. Cock the top of the marker. Upend the marker so any paintball inside the firing mechanism falls out. Uncock the top of the marker by pressing the trigger.
3. Place a sheet of newspaper on a table. Place the Invert Marker on the newspaper with the side that has the dent facing up.
4. Place the suction cup of the car dent pulling tool over the dent. Push down on the tab attached to the tool to form a suction beneath the cup.
5. Hold the marker down with one hand. Grip the top of the tool with the other hand. Pull the top of the tool toward you. Hold the tool against the resistance for 30 seconds. Release the tool.
6. Push the tab up to release the suction cup. Remove the tool from the marker. Inspect the side of the gun to see if the dent has been pulled out. If the dent is still visible, repeat Steps 4 and 5.

Making weapons-grade tear gas is dangerous, complicated and, in many places, illegal. No civilian would ever have legitimate use for such a chemical weapon. However, capsicum pepper spray is a popular self-defense tool used by civilians in many countries. Though not as toxic or as powerful as true tear gas, it's not terribly difficult to make. You can keep this pepper spray in a regular spray bottle, though it can be kept in a pressurized bottle if you have the proper loading equipment.
Instructions
1. Put on the gloves. The acids that make pepper spray effective can burn your skin in these concentrations.
2. Use the knife to slice the peppers into pieces half the size of your thumbnail. Throw away any stems.
3. Grind the peppers with your mortar and pestle until they form as fine a powder as possible. Crush and grind the seeds as well as the meat and skin.
4. Pour the pepper spice into the bowl with the white vinegar. Whisk until well stirred.
5. Store the mixture overnight in the refrigerator, letting the vinegar leach out as much of the spice as possible.
6. Add the water to the mixture. Whisk to stir until it's of even consistency.
7. Decant into your spray bottle. Store the remainder in a cool, dark place.
8. When it comes time to reload, shake your mixture thoroughly before adding more pepper spray to your bottle.
Using mods on the Tippmann A5 can increase performance.
The Tippmann A5 was designed to provide good performance right out of the box but can be modified for higher performance along with many other paintball markers. Modifications can range from lower-priced changes -- adding a remote line -- to more expensive changes -- adding an aftermarket barrel. When modifying the Tippmann A5, it is important to consider safety precautions. Always ensure that the air source is disconnected and the paintball marker is empty when working on it.
Instructions
Aftermarket Barrel
1. Remove the stock barrel by twisting it counterclockwise from the Tippmann A5. Separate the barrel from the Tippmann A5 and set the barrel off to the side. An aftermarket barrel will make the Tippmann A5 shoot longer and more accurately.
2. Place a drop of paintball marker oil on the o-ring of the aftermarket barrel. This will help ensure that the o-ring remains lubricated and keeps a tight seal with the Tippmann A5.
3. Screw the aftermarket barrel into Tippmann A5 using a clockwise motion. Be careful to not over tighten the barrel.
Aftermarket Stock
4. Remove two screws from the left side of the body of the Tippmann A5. They are located at the rear of the marker near where the stock will attach. They can be removed by hand and do not require tools.
5. Pull out the end cap from the rear of the paintball marker body. The end cap was held in place by the screws that were removed in the previous step. Do not remove the spring that was covered by the end cap.
6. Place the stock on the body of the Tippmann A5. The stock fits into the location where the end cap was removed. Ensure that the stock is inserted as far as possible.
7. Replace the two screws into the body of the Tippmann A5. These screws hold the stock to the paintball marker.
Remote Line
8. Attach the end of the remote line to the air source adapter of the Tippmann A5. The air source adapter is the fitting that is used to attach an air source. Only one end of the remote line will fit into the air source adapter. It should be screwed in snugly but not forced.
9. Connect the other end of the remote line to the air source that is being used to power the paintball marker. The air source will screw into the remote line and should fit snugly, but not forced.
10. Place the air source tank into a bottle harness. A bottle harness is typically worn on a belt and is used to hold the air source on the paintball player rather than on the paintball marker. This increases mobility and decreases the weight of the paintball marker.
11. Twist the knob on the remote line when the paintball marker is ready for use. The knob is used to open a valve and allow the gas to move from the air source to the Tippmann A5.
Double Trigger
12. Detach the trigger frame from the Tippmann A5 by removing the two push pins located on the left side of the body. These push pins are on the trigger frame. One pushpin is located below the N on the Tippmann logo, and the other push pin is at the rear of the marker.
13. Detach the gas line tank adapter from the trigger frame by removing the screw on the bottom of the left side of the trigger frame. This is the lowest screw on the trigger frame. Use the tools that come with the Tippmann A5 to remove this screw.
14. Detach the trigger frame from the body of the Tippmann A5 by pushing the safety button toward the left side. The trigger frame pulls away from the Tippmann A5. Separate the two halves of the trigger frame at this point.
15. Pull out the trigger guard from the trigger frame. This piece simply lifts out. The trigger guard is the part that is used to protect the fingers. Replace the trigger guard with the new double trigger guard.
16. Install the double trigger assembly in the trigger frame. Pull out the existing trigger assembly, and replace it with the double trigger assembly. The double trigger assembly fits into the same location. The assembly is one piece and includes the trigger.
17.Reassemble the Tippmann A5. Recombine the two halves of the trigger frame and place it onto the body of the Tippmann A5. Move the safety to the right side of the body and reattach the gas line tank adapter. Screw the gas line tank adapter into place. Replace the two lower receiver push pins.

No one should handle any firearm without knowing its safety features.
Most modern guns sold in the United States contain trigger safety mechanisms (for semiautomatic and bolt-action rifles, as well as pump firearms), cylinder safety mechanisms (for revolvers) or hammer safety mechanisms (for semiautomatic handguns) that will prevent the gun from discharging accidentally. In any firearm other than a revolver, you can engage the safety only when the weapon is cocked and ready to fire. The safety is located around the trigger or the hammer, in a position where the shooter can disengage it with either the thumb or index finger of his shooting hand. Manufacturers design most firearms for right-handed shooters.
Instructions
1. Locate the cylinder safety mechanism on your revolver. This is usually on the left side of the weapon, behind the trigger. You engage it by sliding it forward with your thumb, and disengage it by sliding it backward.
2. Find the trigger safety mechanism for your semiautomatic rifle, bolt-action rifle or pump-action shotgun. Manufacturers generally integrate the trigger safety into the trigger ring housing, either in front of the trigger where your trigger finger will rest in a safe position while you're not shooting, or behind the trigger. You engage such a safety by pressing the button in from the left side of the firearm. You disengage it by pressing the button with your trigger finger from the right side of the weapon.
3. Engage the hammer safety mechanism for your semiautomatic pistol. The safety prevents the hammer from falling and striking the firing pin. You will usually find this safety on the left side of the pistol just below the hammer. You engage it by flipping the lever up with the thumb of your shooting hand (for right-handed individuals), but only when the hammer is in the firing position, or cocked.
4. Look for the red band. The trigger safety mechanisms on most shotguns, semiautomatic and bolt-action rifles each have a red band on the button that is visible on the left side of the firearm when the safety is in the off position.

Paintball is a game where players attempt to shoot each other with dye-filled capsules. When playing at commercial paintball centers, you are required to wear protective gear and clothing that cover most of your body as these capsules can sting upon impact and even bruise you. In addition, paint splashes on you and can be dangerous if it gets in your eyes. One way to protect your eyes from the paint balls are with Dye i3 paint ball masks. Paintball can be an intense activity and if your lenses aren't in good condition, you will have to replace them to ensure the safety of your eyes.
Instructions
1. Peel the top of the rubber goggle frame from the top lenses of your old i3 lenses.
2. Pull the goggle frame out of all the tabs and remove the lens.
3. Apply water to the new lens to dampen the tabs. Insert the two nose tabs into the goggle frame.
4. Press the right and left tabs into the rubber frame.
5. Flush each tab into the frame and peel off the protective coating.

Batting cages are designed for professional and home use. They are set up indoors or out on playing fields and back yards. They are used to increase batting ability and hand eye coordination. Batting cages are made out of durable steel pipes with a net that consists of strong nylon and polyethylene that is strong enough to absorb shots from soft balls and hard balls.
Swing for the Fences
The person standing in the batting cage wears a helmet and has pitches thrown at them by a another person, or they get propelled by a pneumatic machine. As the pitches come in, they simply just swing and try to make clean hits. The balls get hit directly into the net or out onto the filed. They are then picked back up for the next round of hitting.
Economy of Effort
Batting cages are designed for a single person to get a maximal amount of practice hitting in a longer period of time. The whole idea is for the net to keep balls contained to a designated area instead of being hit all over the field. This allows for quicker clean-up and more practice time being achieved.
Stand Please
Batting cages are mobile and can be set up in a matter of minutes. The cage is a long tunnel with a half circle or square shape to it. They are relatively easy to set and can take under an hour with 2 people. The only tools required are a wrench and a step ladder. The frames are made out of steel or fiberglass and are assembled on the ground, then lifted into position. The netting is then draped over top, and it's then ready to roll.
Batting cages usually range in width and height. They can be anywhere from 10 to 18 feet either way. As far as the depth goes, they can be 12 for a smaller version and go all the way up to 70 feet for the long tunnel versions.
For Public Use Only
There is another type of batting cage that is often found at outdoor and indoor amusement parks. It features a huge screened in area. This area keeps the balls contained with a pitching machine and a series of batting cages lined up side by side. The cages themselves are enclosed on the sides and back with the front being open. They are generally 10 feet deep and can range in width and height from 10 to 14 feet. There is a conveyor belt behind the pitching machine that collects the hit balls and filters them back to be re-pitched. Batters either pay for tokens to buy a certain amount of balls, or they rent the cage for a time period.
Enclosed Backstop
There is another style of batting cage that is set up around the home plate area on a baseball field. This is a backstop version. They are either expandable or are designed on wheels for easy transport and set up. They range in size from 11 to 14 feet high, 12 to 22 feet deep and 16 to 18 feet wide with a square or rounded opening. The enclosure is made out of steel or aluminum piping, and there is either a net or metal fencing over top of it. This type of cage is favored by high school teams, colleges and pros where the batter is pitched to and hits out to the fielders. The cage acts more as a backstop to avoid having to chase down passed and foul balls.

A proto-drake is a dragon-like creature that players can use as a flying mount in the online role-playing game "World of Warcraft." Players must be at least level 70 and have a riding skill of level 300 before they can ride the proto-drake. Proto-drakes come in a variety of colors, each a reward earned for completing a specific set of tasks or found as a random drop from a specific enemy. Because proto-drakes are more difficult to obtain than a regular game mount, they are a sign of achievement for the player.
Instructions
1. Travel to Utgarde Pinnacle and defeat Skadi the Ruthless in heroic mode. Skadi is a level 80 elite boss enemy located inside of Utgarde Keep, so you need a group to defeat him. A very small chance exists that he will drop the "Reins of the Blue Proto-Drake" upon defeat.
2. Purchase the "Mysterious Egg" item from Geen, the Oracles Quartermaster located in the Sholazar Basin. You must have achieved Revered reputation with the Oracles faction to buy from Geen. A small chance exists that a green proto-drake can hatch from the egg.
3. Travel to Storm Peaks and defeat the Time-Lost Proto-Drake. This is a level 80 rare elite creature, requiring a group to defeat it. A chance exists that you will receive the item "Reins of the Time-Lost Proto-Drake" after defeating it.
4. Complete achievements in Northrend, a level 68 to 80 quest area included in the "Wrath of the Lich King" expansion pack for "World of Warcraft." If you complete all Heroic level achievements in Northrend, you receive the red proto-drake as a reward. If you complete all raid achievements in Northred on normal difficulty, you receive the plagued proto-drake as a reward. If you complete all raid achievement on heroic difficulty, you receive a black proto-drake.
5. Complete raid achievements in Ulduar, a dungeon located at the Storm Peaks. If you complete all raid achievements at normal difficulty, you earn the rusted proto-drake mount. If you complete all raid achievements a heroic difficulty, you receive the iron-bound proto-drake as a reward.
6. Complete all world event achievements in the game to earn the violet proto-drake.
Beretta Model 21A pistols are designed for concealed carry and are available chambered for .22 LR or .25 ACP bullets. The pistols are double action and feature a manual safety located on the left hand side. The Beretta model 21 pistols are unique in that the action is opened by flipping up the back of the barrel. These pistols are generally carried as backup weapons because of their size and the relatively low power of the bullets they use.
Instructions
Jammed Pistol
1. Take your finger off the trigger and keep the weapon pointed in a safe direction.
2. Cock the hammer to the full back position.
3. Use the barrel release, located above the trigger on the left side of the pistol, to bring the barrel to the up position.
4. Remove the jammed bullet or shell casing from the barrel. You should be able to remove it by hand, if not use a barrel cleaning rod -- or the equivalent -- to push the bullet (backend first) out of the barrel.
5. Remove the magazine by pressing the magazine release at the base of the hand grip.
6. Inspect your pistol for damage and check the function of the weapon.
7. Clean your pistol. Jamming often occurs when the weapon is dirty or has extensive carbon buildup. Keeping your pistol clean and using quality ammunition can help prevent further jamming.
Misfire (Bullet Fails to Fire)
8. Keep the weapon pointed in a safe direction for at least 15 seconds in case of a hang-fire (a delayed discharge usually occurring a few seconds after the trigger is pulled).
9. Pull the trigger a second time; if the pistol fails to fire again, keep it pointed in a safe direction for another 15 seconds.
10. Leave the hammer in the down position and flip open the barrel with the barrel release lever located above the trigger.
11. Remove the faulty bullet and inspect the primer for the strike mark from the pistol's firing pin. If the mark is visible, the problem is most likely the ammunition; if not, the firing pin may be faulty, which requires the attention of a qualified gunsmith.
A beautifully painted wood surface can be quickly ruined if it is not properly protected. Painted wood furniture is especially susceptible to nicks, scratches, and water rings. A clear polyurethane topcoat can seal your painted wood surfaces and protect them from damage if properly applied. Follow these steps to seal painted wood with a clear polyurethane coating. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
