Ontario Boating Regulations

In order to keep boating a safe activity, Ontario has several regulations in effect.

The Canadian province of Ontario has many bodies of water, and according to the Ministry of Natural Resources, over 250,000 lakes. These lakes and waterways have made boating a very popular recreational activity in Ontario. In order to keep boating safe, several provincial boating regulations are enforced.

Operator Competency

The Province of Ontario requires that all boat operators are properly trained and competent. This requirement helps ensure that all craft are operated safely, and that operators are familiar with all laws related to boating. In order to enforce this rule, motorized pleasure craft operators must carry proof of competency at all times.

Three different items qualify as acceptable proof. The first is the "Pleasure Craft Operator Card", which is obtained by completing a boaters safety course. The second is a certificate indicating completion of a boating safety course before April 1999. The third is a completed safety checklist from a boat rental company.

Life Jackets

Life jackets, or Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs), are designed to keep people afloat even when cold water or injury has limited the ability to swim. Because of their importance in saving lives, Ontario requires that one approved PFD per person be on board every boat. Children under the age of 11 are required to wear their PFD at all times while boating. While it is not strictly required that older passengers wear the life jacket, this practice is strongly encouraged by the Canadian Coast Guard.

In order to be considered an approved PFD, a flotation device must be wearable. Cushions, such as those designed for boat seats, do not qualify. Any flotation device that is certified by the Canadian Coast Guard as a PFD will be tagged with an official Coast Guard approval number.

Boat Speed

The standard boat speed limit in Ontario is 10 kilometers an hour or less, anytime that a boat is operating within 30 meters of the shore. Boaters can be fined a maximum of $500 for violating this speed limit. Other speeds are posted on waterways using a round, white sign with the speed listed.

In addition to speed limits, wake zones are also in effect throughout Ontario. These zones are indicated by a sign with a wavy blue line and a red ring, and are most commonly found near the shore or in marinas. When operating in a "no wake" zone, the boat must be kept at a slow idle speed with no damaging wake being created.

Alcohol Consumption

Just as laws regarding the consumption of alcohol help save lives for drivers, regulations limiting alcohol use on the water are important to keep boating safe. Alcohol slows the body's ability to make sound judgement and move with coordination.

In Ontario, the limits and penalties for alcohol consumption while boating are the same as while driving on the land. If an operator's blood alcohol level is between 0.05 and 0.08 percent, his drivers license can be suspended for up to one month. An operator with a blood alcohol level of over 0.08 percent will have his license suspended immediately, and will face criminal prosecution.

Required Equipment

In addition to life jackets, all boats operating in Ontario are required to have other equipment. One floating heaving line, or rope, with a length of at least 15 meters is required. A re-boarding device, such as a ladder or swim platform, must also be on board. The boat must have either a manual propelling device, such as a handheld paddle, or an anchor with at least 15 meters of attached rope.

Several rules regarding lighting also apply. Every boat must have a watertight flashlight or three signal flares. The navigation lights on the bow and stern of the craft must operate properly. For boats operating outside of inland areas, a radar reflector must also be installed.

Paint Hood Stripes

Painting hood stripes on your car or truck is a quick and inexpensive way to update the entire look of your vehicle. Hood stripes can be wide or thick and any color that you want. Hood stripes are also called racing stripes because of the popularity of them on racing vehicles. Hood stripes give any car a sporty look without having to paint the entire vehicle. Learn paint hood stripes and give your vehicle the update it needs.

Instructions

1. Use a stencil kit or regular masking tape to lay out the sections of the hood that will be painted. If using regular masking tape alone, use a measuring tape to keep the stripes the same width. Lay out two large stripes on each side of the hood, running parallel to each other.

2. Apply masking tape and paper to the rest of the hood and car so paint overspray won't land on it. The only exposed parts of the car should be the stripes that will be painted on the hood.

3. Sand the exposed area with 1000 grit sand paper and water. Keep the sand paper wet the entire time so that sanding build-up won't clog the paper and scratch the surface too deeply. Clean the area after sanding with a cotton towel and wax and grease remover to remove any debris.

4. Wipe the exposed area of the hood with a tack rag to remove any remaining dust or debris before painting.

5. Apply three coats of paint to the hood. Use thin, even coats so that the paint doesn't run or become too thick. Allow each coat to dry according to the product directions (usually 30 minutes between coats).

6. Spray the painted area with three coats of clear coat paint, allowing each coat to dry before applying a new coat. Remove the masking tape very carefully while the paint is still slightly wet and tacky feeling. Allow the paint to dry completely before doing anything else with the car.

Attach A Snorkel To An Air Tank

Snorkels enable people to view the underwater world whilst breathing.

A snorkel is a device consisting of a tube and mouthpiece, used by people to get breathing air from the surface when their head is submerged under water. It is normally worn connected to the diver's or snorkeler's mask strap. Some scuba divers prefer not to have the snorkel attached to their mask, but rather stored elsewhere in their equipment, for use only when necessary. One place that the snorkel can be stored is attached to the diver's scuba tank.

Instructions

1. Assemble the scuba gear. Attach the buoyancy control device, or BCD, to the scuba tank and the regulators to the tank valve. Ensure that the tank strap placement allows for a snorkel to be attached lower down on the tank.

2. Slide two large elastic straps around the lower part of the tank. Make sure that the elastic is sufficiently tight to hold an item without sliding off the tank.

3. Wedge the snorkel under the elastic strap on the right-hand side of the tank. Position it so that it can be reached by the diver moving his hand behind his back. Don the scuba equipment to go diving.

Anodize Color Samples

Depending on the dye used, anodized parts can be any color.

Anodizing is a finish applied to aluminum parts to protect them from damage and give the pieces a finish that doesn't flake like paint does. The anodizing process is an electrical plating process similar to electroplating. The difference is that anodizing connects the work piece to the anode of the electrochemical cell, whereas the cathode is the connection point in electroplating. The application of a color to the finish occurs after the anodizing process is complete. A wide range of colors are available for the finish, as are degrees of color depth. To generate samples of the colors achievable for the anodized finish, anodized samples undergo the coloring process to demonstrate the exact color and shade of the finished piece.

Instructions

1. Check your work piece and make sure that the anodizing is finished. A good technical way to check the anodized layer is to solder a piece of wire to one end of a D cell battery and a flashlight bulb to the other end. Run the wire over the anodized surface. If the bulb lights up, then the anodizing is not finished. If you find any areas that have not completed, replace in the anodizing bath and continue to anodize the work piece.

2. Rinse the work piece in cool water when anodizing completes. Rinse well to remove any leftover anodizing solution.

3. Drop the work piece into a boiling dye solution. Boil the piece for about one hour in the dye to achieve full color. Boiling for any longer will not increase the color depth. The boiling of the work piece in the dye solution fills the pores on the aluminum oxide surface. Select a dye available from auto parts stores. Commercial dyes contain fabric and water conditioners that inhibit the dying of metal. Select coal tar-based dyes for best results.

4. Remove the work piece and rinse it in cold water. Heat a solution of 2 oz. nickel acetate in a quart of water to boiling. Place the work piece in the boiling solution for 15 minutes to seal the color.

5. Remove the work piece and rinse. Place the work piece in a pot of boiling water for 45 minutes to seal the surface.

6. Dry the work piece and buff to achieve a deep luster. Apply a final coat of wax to give the color richness and to protect the anodizing.

Hide Behind Proxies

You can easily hide behind proxies when bypassing Internet filters

Proxies are websites that will help you bypass any type of Internet filtering software being administered by the network administrator at your workplace, educational institution or at public places like libraries. In order to hide behind proxies, you must use a proxy website that offers anonymity, which means that when you browse the Internet to access any blocked websites, the proxy will keep your IP address hidden and your privacy secure. Fortunately, there are various anonymous proxies available online that will allow you to hide behind them when you use their service.

Instructions

1. Hide behind the Anonymouse proxy site (see Resources). This fast, free and user friendly anonymous proxy delivers a service that leaves no trace of your browsing activities, keeping your personal information undisclosed, private and secure. To access any restricted site with Anonymouse, simply type the URL of the site you want to visit in the text box below where it says "Enter website address:" and click the "Surf anonymously" tab.

2. Use the Zend2 anonymous proxy to hide your browsing activities with the security that your personal information such as your IP address is being concealed (see Resources). This free-to-use service opens the world wide web by using a mirrored server which acts as an intermediary between you and any restricted website you visit. Popular sites you may access with Zend2 include Twitter, Facebook and MySpace. Accessing websites with this proxy requires you to type the URL you want to view in the text box where it says "Enter URL:" and click the "Go!!" tab to be redirected.

3. Hide behind the Hide My Game proxy (see Resources). This proxy server is a widely known site that receives more than 100,000 visitors per day needing to bypass Internet filtering settings. With Hide My Game you are secure because when you browse through its server, Hide My game obstructs and encodes your IP address, which ultimately makes it untraceable. To use this proxy, type the website address of the page you want to visit in the text field displayed next to where it says "URL to Hide" and then click the "Go" tab to gain access to the otherwise restricted site.

Clean An Old Shot Gun

An old shotgun that has been fully restored is a sight to behold.

Restoring an old shotgun can be a time-consuming, yet rewarding, task. Even if the shotgun has rusted and appears doomed to a dark corner of the attic, you shouldn't give up hope. With the proper supplies, you can clean it. The most important tool is a gun cleaning kit. These kits usually are inexpensive and are available at most sporting good stores. The kits contain the brushes, patches, rods, oils and solvents you need to clean your shotgun effectively.

Instructions

1. Spread newspapers or towels on a table, work bench or wherever you clean your old shotgun.

2. Check the shotgun’s chamber to make sure it is not loaded. If the gun has a magazine, check it as well. Remove any shells.

3. Disassemble the shotgun. If you’re not confident you can disassemble it properly, take the shotgun to a professional gun dealer or gunsmith for advice. Remove the barrel from the forearm and the trigger group. You are left with approximately three pieces, although the precise number depends on the type of shotgun.

4. Remove any rust from the metal parts of the shotgun. Coat the rusted metal with gun oil and gently rub grade 000 or 0000 steel wool against the rusted parts. Apply minimal pressure to avoid damaging the gun’s finish. You may need to repeat the oiling and rubbing several times to remove all traces of rust.

5. Apply bore solvent to a brass brush that is the proper size. Connect it to your cleaning rod. Run the brush through the shotgun’s barrel four or five times.

6. Remove the brass brush from the cleaning rod and replace it with a patch holder. Insert a patch into the holder. Push the patch through the barrel. If the patch comes out dirty, attach a clean one and run it through the barrel. Repeat the process until a patch comes out clean.

7. Remove the used patch and insert a new one moistened with gun oil. Run this patch through the shotgun’s barrel four or five times.

8. Clean the remaining parts of the shotgun with bore solvent. Use cleaning patches to apply the solvent. Focus on removing any signs of dirt or debris from all the nooks of the shotgun.

9. Apply a light, even coat of gun oil to all parts of the shotgun. Use a clean patch to apply the oil. Limit the amount of oil used. Too much oil attracts dirt.

10. Reassemble the shotgun and store it in a safe, moisture-free environment.

What Makes A Good Paintball Gun

A paintball gun--or paintball marker--is the main piece of equipment in the emerging sport of paintball. They use carbon dioxide or compressed air to propel a paintball through the barrel of the gun at velocities as high as 300 feet per second. There are many different factors that make a marker popular and used by those in tournaments; however, a few factors can make a gun stand out.

Paintball Bore Sizes

One of the most important factors in ensuring a good paintball gun is the match in barrel and paintball bore sizes, or the interior diameter of the barrel. If a paintball is propelled out of the barrel with very little force or great force, then the paintball is either too large or too small for the gun. Choosing a paintball that is propelled with a slight force will improve accuracy and consistency.

Length

A typical paintball barrel can range anywhere between three and 21 inches long; however, some barrels could be as long as 48 inches. Longer barrels are generally quieter than a short barrel, yet most players choose a barrel between 14 and 16 inches long. This allows for greater portability when in an action setting.

Trigger Mode

A paintball gun can come equipped with triggering modes of semi-automatic, fully automatic, pump action and ramping, where the gun can switch from semi-automatic to full automatic. The preference of mode depends on the player's liking---the automatics has a greater rate of fire and the pump action allows players to learn play with a slower rate of fire. Generally speaking, a semi or full automatic would be the better gun in an action setting as it enables an individual to fire more paintballs in a given amount of time.

High-Flow Regulator

The regulator system affects both the accuracy and firing velocity of the gun. Carbon dioxide regulators stop the gas (in liquid form) from leaking into the gun and expanding, resulting in dangerous levels of firing velocity. Regulators are designed to ensure accuracy at greater rates of fire.

Air System

According to paintballl-review-world.com, a good air system in the gun can make a huge difference in whether the gun performs well or not. A system that has a high air flow and recharge rate will increase the distance the paintball can carry and improve the accuracy.

Soup Up A Tac 5m Recon Paint Ball Gun

The Tac 5M Recon paintball gun is a powerful weapon that is slow to reload. You can speed up the reloading process by making the Tac 5M into a fully automatic weapon. You will need to disassemble the Tac 5M and make an adjustment to the case. This will technically violate the warranty as well as disallow the Tac 5M for use in paintball games. You need only a gun-locking pin from a hobby store, or gun shop, and some tools.

Instructions

1. Remove the magazine from the the bottom of the Tac 5M. Cock the firing plate to verify that the firing chamber is empty of ammunition.

2. Put a soft cloth on a table. Put the Tac 5M on the cloth with the barrel facing to the right. Remove the screws from the handle stock with the Phillips screwdriver. Remove the handle stock with your fingers.

3. Remove the screws from the top back edge by the hammer, the middle top edge and the front top edge by the barrel of the gun, with the Phillips screwdriver.

4. Remove the screws from the back and the front of the trigger guard.

5. Remove the screw from the top of the Tac 5M in front of the hammer, with the Phillips screwdriver.

6. Cock the hammer. Insert the tip of the flat-edged screwdriver into the gap on the top that is in front of the hammer. Pull the tip of the flat-edged screwdriver towards the hammer to loosen the firing plate on the top.

7. Slide the firing plate on the top of the Tac 5M towards the barrel. Remove the sliding plate from the Tac 5M. Release the hammer.

8. Pull the side plate off the Tac 5M with your fingers. Gently angle the piston assembly that is now revealed up and away from the trigger.

9. Locate the metal pin assembly attached to the spring at the back edge of the trigger and to the right of the hammer.

10. Drill a hole in the slot in front of the gun locking pin that is in the metal pin assembly with the portable drill.

11. Insert a gun-locking pin into the hole just drilled. Place a dab of glue from the glue stick on the top of the gun-locking pin.

12. Place the side plate back onto the Tac 5M. Press down on the side plate. Remove the side plate.

13. Put a sheet of newspaper on the table. Place the side plate on the newspaper with the inside facing up. Drill a hole through the dab of adhesive that is clinging to the inside of the side plate with the portable drill. Drill around inside the sides of the hole with the portable drill,

14. Put the piston assembly back into position on the Tac 5M. Put the side plate back onto the Tac 5M.

15. Cock the hammer. Slide the firing plate back onto the top of the Tac 5M. Release the hammer. Reattach the screw on the top of the Tac 5M.

16. Reattach the screws to the Tac 5M. Put the guns stock on the handle. Reattach the screws to the gun stock.

17.Insert a gun-locking pin into the hole in the side of the Tac 5M to make it a fully automatic weapon. Remove the gun-locking pin to restore the Tac 5M to a semi-automatic.

Upgrade A Jg M4 Cqb Airsoft

The JB M4 CQB Airsoft-brand rifle is a non-lethal replica of a military grade weapon. The "stubby" design of the barrel makes it more suitable for close-quarters "combat" than a standard rifle, but the less-than-ergonomically designed fore-grip handle at the back causes accuracy to suffer because of improper handling. You can upgrade the JG M4 by replacing the handle with a more ergonomically designed model. Replacement handles are available from hobby shops and select gun stores that sell airsoft-brand replica weapons, and the partial disassembly of the JG M4 does not require any special tools.

Instructions

1. Remove the magazine clip from the JG M4 CQB airsoft-brand rifle -- the clip is inside a compartment just in front of the trigger guard on the underside of the rifle.

2. Remove the screws from the side of the battery grip handle that is at the rear of the rifle using the Phillips screwdriver. Remove the faceplate from the handle and place it aside. Remove the battery pack from inside the handle; first pull the battery clip off the battery with your hands. Place the battery pack aside.

3. Grip the fore-grip handle that is in front of the battery grip handle by its bottom. Hold the handle steady as you push down on the pin at its top where it meets the chassis of the gun using the tip of a flat-edged screwdriver. Alternately you can grip the edge of the pin with a needle-nose pliers.

4. Twist the fore-grip handle from side to side to dislodge it from the chassis. Pull the handle off and place it aside.

5. Place the top of the ergonomic replacement fore-grip handle up against the chassis from where the original handle was just removed. Twist the replacement fore-grip handle so as to engage its clips to the underside of the chassis. Pull up on the pin to lock the handle to the chassis using the tip of the screwdriver or the needle-nose pliers.

6. Return the battery pack to its original position in the JG M4. Place the faceplate back on and reattach the screws. Return the magazine clip to its original position in the underside of the rifle.

Put On A Shemagh

Put on a Shemagh

A shemagh is a specially wrapped bandana, which covers a person's head to protect from dust, sand and cold weather. They are worn traditionally in the Middle East to protect from the extreme desert climate. In the West, they are commonly worn as an inexpensive mask to keep the face and head warm during cold weather. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Lay the shemagh flat out in front of you. Fold the shemagh, matching two of the corners together and forming a large triangle.

2. Place the shemagh on top of your head, with the bottom of the triangle over your forehead and the point hanging between your shoulder blades. The two other points should hang down in front of you.

3. Ensure one of the points is slightly longer than the other. Pull the shorter end under your chin and up in front of the longer end, near your ear.

4. While holding the shorter end in position, pull the longer end over across your face, just over your nose. Allow only the eyes to remain uncovered.

5. Bring the short and long ends together behind your head and tie them together. Adjust the shemagh so that you can breathe comfortably, and so that it remains snug on your head.

Install A Spring Airsoft Upgrade

A spring fired airsoft-brand gun fires foam pellets to use in "Capture-the-flag" and other "war" games. Modify the firing assembly by installing a spring to not only enhance the sound of the airsoft-brand gun when fired, but also increase the distance that the pellet being shot will travel. All that is required is an item from a hardware store and a tool most households have already.

Instructions

1. Pull the magazine clip out of the butt of the handle. Place the magazine clip aside. Pull the sliding handle assembly on top of the airsoft-brand gun toward the hammer. Confirm that there is no pellet in the firing chamber before proceeding. Release the sliding handle assembly so that it returns to its normal position.

2. Release the locking latch at the top of the airsoft-brand gun--the latch is on the right side just above and to the left of the trigger guard. Pull the hammer back until it locks in place.

3. Pull the sliding handle assembly on the top of the gun towards the barrel and off the gun.

4. Remove the spring assembly from out of the top of the sliding handle assembly. Place the spring assembly on a table with the extruding rod facing to the left.

5. Hold the pliers in one hand. Clamp the jaws of a pliers around the end of the spring just to the right of the nub on the spring assembly rod. Pull the spring toward the right to compress it while holding the spring assembly down with your other hand. Release the spring after 30 seconds have passed.

6. Place the spring purchased at the hardware store onto the left end of the spring assembly's rod. Clamp the jaws of the pliers around the right end of the spring. Pull the spring toward the right to lodge it onto the nub on the spring assembly rod.

7. Place the spring assembly back into the sliding handle assembly. Slide the sliding handle assembly onto the airsoft-brand gun from the barrel end to the right until it can go no farther.

8. Press the trigger to release the hammer. Release the locking latch to return the sliding handle assembly to its correct position on the top of the airsoft-brand gun. Insert the magazine cartridge back into the butt of the airsoft-brand gun's handle.

Customize A Dallas Cowboys Jersey

The Dallas Cowboys football jersey can have letters and patches added to it.

Anyone who owns a Dallas Cowboys jersey can customize it in with iron-on letters and patches. Letters can be used to create a player or fan's name on the back of the jersey if one is already not in place. Patches can be sewn on to either sleeve or front of the jersey, adding extra flair. Customizing a Dallas Cowboys jersey is a simple task that will take no more than an hour to complete.

Instructions

1. Place the Cowboys jersey flat against the ironing table so that the rear of the jersey is facing upward. The upper portion of the jersey, such as between the shoulder blades, will have letters added. The letters can be a name of a player on the team or a fan who actively watches the games.

2. Place each white iron-on letter across the upper portion of the jersey by pulling off each letter from the translucent paper, which keeps the adhesive part of the letters safe from dirt when not in use. Use a ruler to evenly space each letter apart from one another so that each letter is not closer than a half-inch.

3. Plug the iron into a wall outlet and let it heat up for about three minutes. Press the iron down over one or two letters at a time for 30-second increments until the letters have adhered to the Cowboys jersey. The letters should be fully adhered after two to three minutes of heat from the iron.

4. Sew embroidered patches onto the sleeves or front of the Cowboys jersey. The patches can be footballs, helmets or the Dallas Cowboys blue and white star. These patches can be purchased online.

5. Sew the patches on the desired location of the jersey, using a needle and thread. Place two feet of thread from the spool through the eye of the needle. Cut the thread from the spool with a scissor.

6. Run the needle and thread around the edge of the patch until the patch is secured to the jersey. Cut the extra thread off with the scissor.

Pick The Right Airsoft Gun

Airsoft is a sport that is rapidly sweeping the nation. Similar to paintball, it involves the use of a replica weapon that fires plastic pellets at opponents in combat-like scenarios. As in real-life combat, the weapon you choose can make all of the difference. In this article, we will be taking a look at pick the right Airsoft gun for you.

Instructions

Picking the Right Airsoft Gun

1. Find out what environment you will be playing in. This can make all of the difference, as the weapons that function well in one scenario don't always translate well to another. If its just you and your friends shooting each other in a basement or the woods, you should be looking at bargain priced weapons or even spring guns. The low FPS and cost will ensure that everyone has a good time even if they get hit at close range. However, if you are looking to get more serious and play regulated games, then you will be looking at a full fledged AEG (Automatic Electric Gun). There are a whole bunch of cost options, and the guns can range from $30 Taiwanese knock-offs, all the way up to $600 Tokyo Marui replica weapons. Depending on your budget, I would suggest starting somewhere in the middle. Spending $200 on a starter weapon is well worth it, as it will be good enough to give you a flavor for what the real game is like, but also wont break the bank.

2. Find out what type of combat scenario you will be playing in. Most Airsoft fields will offer a variety of game types, and these can all impact your choice of gun, depending on which games you wish to participate in. For example, in a CQB (Close Quarters Battle) scenario, you don't want to be stuck with a single shot sniper rifle. You would want a small, light, and low velocity sub machine gun such as an Mp5. The reverse is also true. If you are in an open field, you don't want to be caught with a close range weapon, when snipers can pick you off from hundreds of feet away.

3. Do your research. Even if you have found a gun that satisfies the above requirements, it won't mean a thing if it breaks down or jams on you when you're in the middle of a fire fight. The best idea is to go online and search for reviews on the gun that you have your mind set on. Then try to read what owners have to say with an open mind, as you don't want consumer bias to affect your decision.

4. Think about longevity. Even if it is just a starter gun, that doesn't mean that you can't upgrade its performance while you save for a better gun. You will probably want a weapon that you can tinker with, and in this regard, some models are better than others. There are all sorts of upgrades and improvements available--simply hop online and search any Airsoft retailer, and you should find a plethora of gadgets to improve your gun. See what's available first, and then take this information into account when its actually time to start buying.

Make Creative Posters

Faced with a blank sheet of poster board, the job of coming up with a creative poster can be a daunting one. However, by following a few basic guidelines, the step-by-step creation of an attractive, effective poster is not as overwhelming a task as it may seem. Simply keep in mind that your objective is to get others to take a closer look at your poster and come away with some basic information. You'll use color, a great graphic and your imagination to achieve that objective.

Instructions

1. List the information that absolutely needs to be included on your poster. For example, if you are advertising the performance of a local theater group, you need such information as the date, times, and location where the play will be presented along with the title of the play and either ticket prices or a phone number to call for tickets. If you need to make a science project poster, you would want to include the name of the project, probably in the form of a hypothesis or a question.

2. Decide on one large graphic element for the poster. By having one large graphic, you'll attract the eye to a focal point on the poster. Possibilities for graphics include such ideas as a black and white drawing, a photograph, a diagram, a cutout from a magazine, or an abstract design.

3. Choose a color for the poster board that coordinates well with both your subject and your graphic. For example, the color of a poster that will feature a full-color photograph should pick up one of the colors of the photograph; a black and white photo would be more effectively displayed on a brightly colored poster board than on a white one. Hot pink would probably not be the best choice for a poster describing a serious issue.

4. Mount your graphic in a prominent yet interesting position on the poster board. Try tilting the graphic to the left, for example, about one-third down from the top of the poster. Consider using a black marker to outline the edge of your graphic to make it stand out more effectively.

5. Use the yardstick to draw a thick pencil line where you want the title for your poster to appear. For example, if you have tilted the graphic to the left, you might want the poster title to tilt at the same angle. Once your pencil line is drawn, lightly sketch in the letters or use stencils if you wish.

6. Choose a complementary color for completing the letters. The letters will have considerably more "pop" if you outline them in black. If the poster is an extremely dark color, you might consider cutting out letters of a lighter color and gluing them on.

7. Consult your list of items to be included on the poster and find a unique way of including them. For example, on a white poster you might list the items using different colors for each in rainbow-order. Or you might cut out appropriate shapes (such as balloons, hearts, hands or whatever suits your purpose) and print one piece of information on each and glue them randomly onto the poster.

Build A Gun Case

A quality gun case is a necessity for any firearm owner. Most states require a gun to be kept in a locked case when being transported unless you have a concealed weapons permit. An insulated storage case can also protect your gun from scratches and damage. Follow these easy steps to build a basic locking gun case out of wood.

Instructions

1. Decide on the size of your gun case. It should be at least an inch longer than the gun on each side.

2. Cut two pieces of half-inch-thick wood according to the measurements you chose in Step 1. Cut side pieces from the wood that are 2 1/2 inches wide.

3. Use wood glue to attach the side pieces to each of the large wooden panels. This will give you two small boxes that are 2 1/2 inches deep.

4. Apply paint or wood stain to the pieces of the gun case. The inside of the gun case can be left unfinished since it will not be visible. Allow the finish to dry overnight before assembling the case.

5. Attach weather stripping tape around the edges of each half of the gun case if you want it to be airtight. This step is not necessary if you will not be carrying the case in areas where moisture may seep in.

6. Set the two sides of the gun case together with the open ends facing each other. Use wood screws to attach hinges 2 inches in from the edge of the case.

7. Open the case and attach a lock of your choice to the side opposite the hinges. The latching mechanism should be attached to one half of the gun case and the receiver to the other half. Attach a handle to one side of the gun case if you wish.

8. Measure and cut two pieces of 2-inch-thick foam to line the inside of each half of the gun case. Use rubber cement to glue the foam pieces to the wood. Leave the gun case open overnight so the rubber cement can dry.

Build A Motorized Focuser

A homemade motorized focuser is used on telescopes.

Focusing a telescoping can be frustrating. You have to continually turn the focus knob so the star or planet that you're looking at remains visible for more than a few minutes. Since the stars and planets move, you can't remain focused on the celestial body for very long before you have to refocus the instrument. Adding a motorized focuser on your telescope will eliminate the need for you to go out and refocus the device. You can make adjustments remotely, while still looking at the designated star or planet.

Instructions

1. Drill holes in the draw tube so it can bolt to the base plate. Set on the base plate and mark the bolt holes with a pencil. Drill corresponding holes through the base plate. Thread the holes on the draw tube so you can permanently bolt the base plate to the draw tube.

2. Cut a hole in the center of the base plate the same size as the motor shaft. Cut a notch out of the base plate the same size as the retaining key. Slide the base plate on the end of the motor shaft, lining up the notch with the notch in the motor shaft. Insert the key to make sure it secures the base plate and draw tube to the motor. Hold the entire assembly on the motor shaft by inserting a snap ring.

3. Drill holes in the brackets that correspond with the motor mounting brackets. Rest the assembly over the side of the telescope, sliding the draw tube over the rack and pinion focusing knob. Mark holes on the telescope and brackets so the holes align with each other. Tap the holes in the telescope and mount the motorized assembly to the telescope.

4. Connect the phone plug or jack to the motor by connecting the control wires together. Insert the phone wire in the plug and run to the back of your computer. Load the focusing software to the computer. Cut the phone wire close to where the wire connects to the motor and phone plug. Splice the software electronics box between the cut phone wires and mount the box to the base plate.

5. Reboot the computer and shoot some images from the telescope. Ensure that these images are focused. Turn the telescope to another celestial body and refocus the instrument using the focusing software.

Build Paintball Fields

Paintball is an exciting and challenging recreational activity, and a lot of the fun comes from playing on a properly built paintball field. The way the course is laid out can drastically affect the tactics players use. To ensure that the fun will last, you want to build a paintball field that is versatile while still remaining easy to learn. Nothing will turn a novice paintballer into a regular player more quickly than a thrilling field of play.

Instructions

1. Determine whether the paintball field will be be an outdoor or indoor field. Indoor fields' biggest advantage is that they offer protection from bad weather. They're limited in size, however. Outdoor fields can be as large as you want.

2. Place obstacles so that they add to the quality of the game, rather than detract from it. Some barriers provide real tactical challenges that will enhance paintball strategy, but a course glutted with insurmountable objects can make players feel like they're lost in a fun house. Create barriers that influence and channel players' movement but do not totally restrict it.

3. Allow for a long-range field of fire. Paintball works best when it rewards various types of playing styles. The top-notch sniper has a valid technique, too, so you want to make sure that not every score must be made at point-blank range.

4. Make the course adaptable to different rules. Not everyone will want to play traditional "capture the flag" scenarios; construct the course so that it is interesting even in free-play environments.

5. Involve experienced paintballers in building the field. There is no substitute for experience. Get feedback from players so your course is based on educated opinions about the proper layout and features.

6. Run through the field with some close friends a couple of times before you open it up to others. Afterward, sit down with them and get honest feedback on what they liked and disliked about the way the field worked in game play. This dry run will reveal problems that need to be corrected.

7. Keep an open mind about revisions. The needs of the paintballers using your field may change over time; you need to be responsive to those changes to provide a first-rate experience and keep them coming back.

U S Military Weapons

U.S. Military Weapons

The U.S. military has used a vast array of weapons since the Revolutionary War. Advances in technology have changed the way our military responds to threats around the world.

History

During the Revolutionary War, many soldiers used the Kentucky Flintlock Rifle, cannons and mortars. By World War II, the rifles in use were the M1 Garand and M1A1 Carbine, along with bombs, rockets and artillery.

Function

Revolutionary War weapons were crude compared to today's weapons, and were effective only within 100 yards. Today's weapons can be fired from hundreds of miles away and guided by GPS or launched from an aircraft traveling faster than the speed of sound.

Types

Modern weapons range from an infantryman's M4 rifle firing a 5.56 mm bullet to the $2 billion Stealth Bomber, which is capable of flying around the world and dropping 40,000 pounds of bombs.

Loading and Firing

America's first weapons were muzzleloaders, meaning that each bullet had to be pushed down the barrel from the front end along with the gun powder to propel it. Twentieth century U.S. military weapons like the M4 rifle or M1 Garand use a self-contained cartridge and can fire repeatedly until their magazines are empty.

Size

U.S. military weapons vary in size, from a 9 mm sidearm to a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, weighing in at 97,000 tons.

Remove Paint From Dog Fur

You're not sure how it happened, but your furry friend is standing in front of you, wagging its tale and covered in fresh paint (usually right before you need to be somewhere in a hurry). Here are some things you can do to clean your pet up fast without having to shave him bald.

Instructions

1. Use soap and water on the paint-covered fur if the paint is latex-based and isn't completely dry. You can use any antibacterial soap or dish soap for small areas, or use baby shampoo or dog shampoo for a big area. Stay away from soaps that have harsh ingredients such as dyes or perfumes so you won't irritate their skin.

2. Change your approach if the paint has dried or is oil-based. Work salad oil, petroleum jelly, or even peanut butter into the fur with your fingers to break down clumps of paint and then try pulling the paint out with your fingers. Remove excess oil with a paper towel.

3. Wash your pet with dog or baby shampoo after removing the paint. This will remove any residue paint and oils from the fur to reduce irritation.

4. Repeat as needed. If the paint is difficult to get out, as the fur begins to separate, the paint will loosen, but you will needed to repeat these steps until all paint has been removed to prevent your pet from trying to clean the paint themselves and ingesting it.

5. Remove the piece of fur by shaving or trimming it off with scissors if the paint will not come out.

6. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your dog has a reaction to the paint, has ingested paint, or if the paint covers sensitive parts of their body such as their eyes or inside their ears.

Mount A Scope On A Benjamin 392

Mount a Scope on a Benjamin 392

The Benjamin 392 is single shot air rifle that shoots .22 caliber pellets. This powerful air rifle has a muzzle velocity of up to 685 feet per second and is very accurate. You can attach a scope to the rifle using the mounts on the rifle's barrel. However, the action of the rifle is not designed to accommodate scopes and needs to remain clear of the air pump on the rifle. The mounts will accommodate 11mm scope bases, commonly used on air rifles and .22 LR rifles. Before mounting a scope to your Benjamin air rifle, make sure that the gun is unloaded.

Instructions

Scope Mounting

1. Unscrew the retaining screws of your scope rails with the small screwdriver and separate the halves.

2. Place the rail mounts over the rifle's barrel and screw them back together. Space the mounts in accordance with the distance between the rings on your scope.

3. Place the edges of the bases of your scope rings in the grooves along the top of the rail mounts. Tighten the scope ring retention screws.

Sighting in your Scope

4. Prepare a target at a range of approximately 50 feet. Aim your rifle at the target so that the scope crosshairs are aligned with the center of the target and shoot at least three pellets.

5. Examine your target for the location of the shot group (where your pellets hit the target) and mark it with the piece of tape.

6. Determine the correction needed to "move" the shot group to the center of the target and adjust your scope accordingly. For example, if the shot group is low and to the left than the scope cross-hairs must be moved up and to the right. The scope's vertical adjustment dial is on top of the scope and the horizontal adjustment dial is on the right hand side.

7. Repeat the process until you're satisfied with your shot placement.

Kinds Of Paintballs

Paintballs, the ammunition used by paintball markers (guns), come in several different colors, varieties and sizes. In recent years, paintball ammunition has evolved into reusable forms to help professional teams save money while practicing. Paintballs are widely available for inexpensive purchase and are sold in large lots.

Color

Paintballs come in a wide variety of different colors. Colors include white, blue, red, green and purple. The color of a paintball has no effect on its use.

Retail

The price of paintball ammunition packages is usually dependent on the amount of paintballs in each package. Most paintball packs contain between 1000 and 5000 "rounds."

Caliber

Paintballs, like paintball markers, come in different sizes, or calibers. Paintball calibers include .43, .5 and .68 inches.

Reusable

Rubber or Velcro paintball ammo is usually intended to be used for practice. Reusable balls are called reballs.

Reballs are sometimes used in indoor arenas as a substitute for paintballs. Reballs should be used at a lower velocity than paintballs because of their inability to break on impact.

Where to Buy

Paintballs are usually available where ever paintball markers are sold. Retail stores include Walmart, Dicks Sporting Goods and Sports Authority.

Gifts For Guys Who Like Guns

Finding a range that rents exotic or historical guns can be a great gift.

When shopping for a guy who likes guns the first thing to remember is do not buy him any gun or gun-related accessories. Guns have very specific details, and odds are he knows the details and you don't, so find a different gift. Some guys use guns for hunting, some for collecting. Whatever the reason, the right gift can add some subtle levels of safety and responsibility.

Hunting Accessories

If the man is a hunter there are many great accessories you can find. A good knife is a must-have for a hunter. Warm socks will remind him of your gift on cold mornings. Hats and gloves can all help out a hunter; plus, if he doesn't make himself exceedingly visible, you can make sure your gift gives him that little bit of extra orange to keep him seen by fellow hunters.

Lock It Up Securely

Weather he likes long-arm rifles or side-arm pistols, not every man takes the necessary precautions with his firearm. If you buy him a locking device, be it a trigger lock, a lock box or a weapons locker, he might practice better gun safety. Many men don't even think about locking their weapons up; ultimately, they are responsible for anything that happens with their weapon. If it is locked up, they are that much more secure. This is mandatory if children are around.

Training Course

Many men will not admit they need a safety course, but, if you sell it as a "training course," they will be much more inclined to participate. This is a gift, however, so make sure you get him a cool course. No one wants to sit in a class room for his present, but if you can find a course with an obstacle course or a qualifying or ranking element, any shooter will jump at the chance to participate. He might even learn something useful and responsible.

Exotic Firing Range

For the over-the-top gift, you can find an exotic firing range. Finding places that rent guns for use can be difficult, but everyone remembers his first machine gun. It can be a little expensive, but it is a great way to do something with the gun enthusiast for his gift. depending on how far you are willing to go, exotic ranges can have everything from machine guns to high-powered rifles to rocket launchers.

Build A Bunker From Shipping Containers

Build a Bunker From Shipping Containers

Shipping containers are the rectangular metal boxes that are transported on truck beds and loaded onto ships. They're usually 20 or 40 feet long, 8 feet wide, and about 8 feet high. Some are refrigerated and can be adapted for air-conditioned shelter. Shipping containers are easy to find and are generally inexpensive. One container is large enough for a temporary bunker to provide protection from extreme weather. Multiple containers can be stacked, set end to end or placed perpendicular to each other for more space and longer occupancy times. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Check your local building regulations before you begin, in case there are special requirements for your locality.

Then excavate a hole that is at least 10 feet deep and the length and width of your container. Level the bottom of the hole. Use a crane to set the container in the hole.

2. Cut a hatch in the roof of the bunker to use as an entry. Hinge the part of the container you removed and attach it to the roof to use as a door. Attach a gasket around the door to cover sharp edges and create a waterproof seal. Use a ladder or spiral staircase to descend inside.

3. Provide ventilation for the container by cutting holes in the roof and fitting them with pipes that will extend above ground level. If you have concerns that your bunker will be discovered, plant bushes around the vent pipes or use other natural camouflage.

4. Cover the container with dirt and fill in any open areas on the sides. If the hatch is below the level of the dirt, either slope the earth gently away from it or construct a barricade around the hatch.

5. Create a catch basin next to the bunker by digging a pond and running a pipe below ground from the basin to the shelter. Attach a valve to the end that's inside the bunker so that the water can be controlled. Or simply use rain barrels to capture water and then pipe it into the bunker.

6. Use wind power to generate electricity. Install a windmill and attach it to batteries. Use the energy in the batteries to power small appliances or ventilation fans.

What Are The Laws Regarding Paintball Guns On Airplanes

Paintball equipment is usually stored in checked baggage.

Paintballers travel for conventions, tournaments, and to check out new fields. Specific rules vary from airline- to-airline, but the rules tend to be fairly similar across the board. Learning the airplane rules for paintball markers and equipment allows you to skip having to ship it to your destination, which comes with problems of its own.

Markers

Airlines consider paintball markers as a compressed air gun. Most firearm rules apply to markers, but they do not need to be in a specific type of container. Paintball markers are included in checked baggage. To avoid delays, tell the customer service representative about the marker so he is not surprised by the gun- shaped object in your baggage. Markers are permitted on all airlines as long as these guidelines are followed.

Tanks

The tanks are the real issue in paintball equipment. Airline regulations vary concerning whether the air tank is allowed on the plane. For all airlines that do allow tanks, the tank must be completely emptied of compressed air or CO2. The paintballer must remove the regulator from the tank. Tanks are only allowed in checked baggage.

A pressured air tank is incredibly dangerous at high altitudes, so a number of airlines do not allow air tanks at all. The only way to deal with this issue is to ship the tank to your location ahead of time.

Other Paintball Equipment

Other paintball equipment such as masks, padding and paintballs are not under any restrictions for air travel. You can put any of these items into your carry-on luggage, or put it into checked baggage.

What Is Psp Mode On A Paintball Gun

PSP mode is only available on some paintball guns.

Some paintball guns come with more modes than others. The PSP setting is a multiple-shot option only available on electric paintball guns. This mode is generally used for highly competitive and professional paintball competitions.

Definition

The abbreviation stands for Paintball Sports Promotions. This is a professional paintball event organizer and the largest paintball events company in the country as of 2010. The PSP mode on a paintball gun is the setting used in competition organized by Paintball Sports Promotions.

Function

PSP shoots more balls if you pull the trigger at least once a second.

PSP mode makes your gun shoot at semiautomatic for the first three trigger pulls if pulled within one second intervals. If you have pulled the trigger three times in three seconds the rate of fire increases to three balls every trigger pull as long as you pull the trigger once every second. The more you pull the trigger the faster your gun will shoot.

History

Paintball Sports Promotions was once part of the National Professional Paintball League (NPPL). In 2002 PSP split from NPPL. The PSP runs team competitions in the NPPL format but as a independent entity where players can use the PSP mode.

Organization

The Paintball Sports Promotions website has the exact rules required to enter an event using the PSP mode. These competitions are not to be entered lightly as they are for advanced and serious players.

Restrictions

The PSP mode on your gun is a competitive event setting. Most courses feature recreational play and the PSP mode is not always allowed. Failure to follow field rules can result in bans from one day to life.

Acclimate A Dog To Gun Fire

If you've ever seen a hunter chasing his dog through the woods--or better yet, carrying her out of the field because of a syndrome commonly called "gun shyness"--you'll also get to hear the hunter's favorite choice words as he huffs and puffs back to the vehicle. Just because a dog is of a certain breed does not mean the animal is automatically going to accept loud noises and/or gunfire as natural occurrences. As in other aspects of animal training, a little time and patience will in most cases acclimate a dog to the noise of a gunshot.

Instructions

1. Start training in a gradual way. Begin when the dog is a pup. Every few days, blow up a paper bag and pop it. Start at a far distance and move closer each time. This process usually takes a couple of weeks, but some breeds may adapt to the sound much sooner than others. Gauge how comfortable your dog is based on your knowledge of his disposition.

2. Move on to a firearm after the dog is used to the paper-bag trick. Again, starting small is the key. A .22-caliber rifle or pistol makes very little noise compared to a 12-gauge shotgun or deer rifle. Again, from a distance, repetitively fire the .22 caliber, moving closer to the pet every few days until she becomes used to the noise.

3. Take your dog hunting on a regular basis so he can become familiar with the sounds of gunfire. With a little time and a lot of patience, you will have a dog that will not cower or run when gunfire is heard.

Activities To Do With Coworkers Outside Of Work

Activities outside of work can help employees become better team players.

A 2011 survey by recruiting firm The Creative Group found that employees who socialized with their colleagues outside of work enjoyed more productive professional relationships. Beth Braccio Herring from CareerBuilder.com includes networking, fostering team work, establishing a reputation and gathering knowledge about the company among the key reasons why socializing with colleagues is important to career success. There are plenty of activities to do with co-workers outside of work.

A Departure from the Norm

After work drinks and business lunches are what usually comes to mind when thinking about socializing with co-workers. Some different ways of sharing a meal or drinks with colleagues are going to high tea, hosting a murder mystery dinner, enjoying a cheese and wine tasting or participating in a group cooking class together. When organizing such events, try to be as inclusive as possible by keeping in mind that some employees have kids or religious beliefs that do not permit them to drink alcohol or eat certain foods.

Fun Physical Activities

Hands-on activities are a great way for colleagues to have fun while nurturing a team bond which will have positive effects back in the workplace. Corporate health club memberships and having an office team in an organized sport such as softball are popular ways that many companies promote fitness and group participation. For something different, particularly for younger or more adventurous crews, try organizing an office scavenger hunt, go indoor skydiving or rock-climbing, paintball or laser squirmish. However, activity organizers should be considerate to make sure that older colleagues and those with physical disabilities are not left out.

Family-Orientated Activities

Employers are becoming increasingly aware of their social responsibility to promote a work-life balance for their employees, which includes ensuring that workers are able to spend quality time with their families. Co-workers can enjoy time outside work together while including their families by having a picnic and ensuring that there are activities to keep children entertained such as a jumpy castle and games. Colleagues can also choose to get together outside of work for family friendly activities like bowling or mini-golf or by going as a group to a sporting event.

Ways to Work Socializing into the Business Day

There are other ways for co-workers to connect during the work day outside of the office. Commuting or car pooling with a colleague are examples of ways colleagues can get to know each other as part of their daily work routine. During allocated break times, co-workers can also get together over lunch or a coffee, by taking a walk or doing a lunchtime work-out together. These activities are particularly useful for people who do not want to spend more time at work than they have to but still want to enjoy the benefits or socializing with co-workers.
