How Do Gasoperated Machine Guns Work

Gas-operated AK-47

In firearm terminology, "gas operated" refers to a method of readying a weapon to fire immediately after it discharges a round. To understand this process, you must know how a bullet fires. While there are thousands of firearm designs, most utilize ammunition that houses a projectile, a propellant consisting of a combustible material and a shock-sensitive explosive primer inside a cartridge. In most modern designs, pulling the trigger of the loaded firearm releases a spring-loaded bolt. The bolt contains a firing pin that collides with back of the bullet, setting off the primer. This ignites the propellant and forces the bullet out of the barrel.

Fully Automatic

In both fully automatic and semi-automatic rifles, the bolt is spring-loaded so that its natural tendency is to move forward. Releasing the trigger allows it to do so and push a round into the chamber and send the firing pin into the primer. Semi-automatic weapons prevent the bolt from cycling "automatically." That is, the shooter must release the trigger and pull it again. Fully automatic weapons allow the bolt to cycle as long as the trigger is depressed.

Gas Operation

Gas-operated machine guns include a tube above the barrel. At one end of the tube is a "tap-off" hole that allows air to pass from the barrel to the tube. The other end leads to the bolt. When the weapon fires, the tap-off hole diverts into the tube some of the forward gas pressure used to fire the bullet. This pressure travels down the tube and into the bolt, forcing it backward. Spring tension sends the bolt forward again while a spring in the magazine forces a new bullet into an area near the barrel called the "breech." The bolt pushes the round from the breech into the barrel and sends the firing pin into the primer, starting process over again. This is known as the Direct Impingement (DI) method.

Drawbacks

The problem with the DI system is that the gas is hot and filled with carbon and other impurities. The heat can put strain on the moving parts that make up the bolt assembly. Additionally, the impurities can cause these parts to clog. As these are among the most critical components, the weapon becomes subject to more wear and tear and requires regular cleaning and maintenance.

Variation

In an effort to increase reliability with minimal maintenance, some gas-operated firearms employ a piston. These function similarly to DI systems except the gas pushes on a piston housed where the tube would otherwise be. The tap-off hole diverts the gas pressure into the piston, which, in turn, pushes the bolt. As such, the gas itself does not come into contact with the critical parts in the bolt assembly.

Misconception

It is not entirely accurate to say that gas piston firearms run cooler and cleaner than their DI counterparts. The area that houses the bolt assembly stays cooler and cleaner but only because the heat and fouling materials have been moved partway down the barrel where the tap-off hole diverts the gas into the piston. This area can get just as hot and dirty as the bolt otherwise would and as such requires cleaning and maintenance.

How Do Bocce Balls Get Made

What Is a Bocce Ball?

Bocce balls are the key component of the sport known as bocce. From the Italian word "boccia," which means "to bowl," bocce is played all over the world. The game of bocce consists of teams assembling on a long outdoor court and attempting to toss colored bocce balls as close as they can to the "jack," a smaller bocce ball. The game is played with one small ball and eight larger balls. The large balls are two different colors--four for each team. The teams with the closest bocce balls get points. There are two kinds of balls used in bocce: the jack (the scoring ball) and the bocce (the points balls).

What Is a Bocce Ball Made Of?

Bocce balls come in many materials, some more expensive than others. While cheap bocce balls can be made out of wood, stone or metal, the most popular (and tournament approved) are made of hard plastic, similar to bowling balls or billiard balls. Bocce balls can be painted solid or given unique finishes such as pearlescent, marbelized, opaque or even glow-in-the-dark.

How Is a Bocce Ball Made?

Mass-produced tournament-approved bocce balls are made of a durable resin compound. While you will find inexpensive wooden or light plastic bocce balls for sale, the resin compound bocce balls are what serious players use. The two parts of a bocce ball are made in separate ways. The balls have a foam core, often constructed of molded pieces. The core gives the ball its weight. During manufacturing, the core is suspended inside a mold, then liquid resin is poured into the mold. The resin creates the shell, the outside surface of the bocce ball. After cooling, the bocce ball is sanded, painted and polished.

Who Makes Bocce Balls?

There are many companies that make bocce balls, generally along with bowling balls, billiard balls and other bowling game gear. EPCO, in Medway, Massachusetts, has been making yard games and bocce balls for 48 years (see Resources). An Italian company, Super Martel, is another major producer of bocce balls in Europe.

Remove Paint From Drywall

Removing layers of paint from drywall is an option for those who either want to add new texture to their walls or who want to start over with a smooth finish. Older homes that have many layers of paint on the wall will require a little more work. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Test the walls for any lead-based paint that may be underneath current layers on homes built in the 1950s or before. Do-it-yourself kits from a hardware store are accurate when the instructions are followed precisely.

2. Consult a contractor or other professionals if a test for lead-based paint is positive. More serious measures, such as tearing out the existing drywall, may be advised.

3. Prep the room in which you will be removing paint from the drywall if the test for lead-based paint is negative. Remove any decorations from the walls, and move pieces of furniture to another room or cover them with drop cloths to avoid getting dust on them.

4. Wear protective eye glasses and wear a mask the covers your nose and mouth to avoid any dust from getting into your eyes or from being inhaled.

5. Sand the wall(s) aggressively with a grit sandpaper (60 to 80) in a random orbit sander. If you do not own an orbit sander, you can rent one from most hardware stores. Rent one that includes dust extraction, if possible. This will help keep your work area much cleaner.

6. Move the orbital sander in every motion you can until you have taken off as much paint as you would like. Make clockwise, counter-clockwise, vertical, horizontal and diagonal motions to help in removing layers of paint from drywall. You will likely need to go over areas with multiple layers of paint numerous times.

Make Your Own Molle Vest

Make a MOLLE vest to keep your gear secure out in the field.

MOLLE (pronounced mo'-lly) gear, Modular Lightweight Load carrying Equipment, is an advanced carrying system the military began using in the 1990s, a versatile and more comfortable carrying system than any previously used by the armed forces. What makes MOLLE gear so effective is PALS, Pouch Attachment Ladder System, a series of nylon straps that, when interwoven properly, will not come loose until the user takes them apart. Genuine MOLLE equipment is very expensive, but can be made at home for a fraction of the cost.

Instructions

1. Measure the area on the vest where the nylon webbing material will be sewn on as PALS attachment straps. Add PALS anywhere on the vest you'd like. On genuine MOLLE equipment, the PALS are located along the right and left halves of the front vest, along both sides, and along the entire back, each section containing a series of nylon straps sewn onto the garment in horizontal rows.

2. Cut the nylon webbing into straps 6 inches in length. The 6-inch straps are for the right and left halves of the vest, and for each side section. Cut 10-inch straps for the back section. Use the lighter to melt each end of a nylon strap to stop it from fraying after it has been cut.

3. Place the straps in horizontal rows 1 1/2 inches apart on the right and left front sections of the vest, and mark where they are to be sewn. Repeat this for each side section, and for the back. Genuine MOLLE straps go in horizontal rows for the length of the garment 1 1/2 inches apart. Hot glue the end of each strap in place when you have decided exactly where you want them. This holds them until you sew them on.

4. Sew on the straps using a sewing machine, if possible, with the thickest thread and the strongest sewing pattern the machine has. After sewing each end to the garment, sew each strap to the garment 1 inch apart, creating 1-inch loops from each individual strap. Repeat this process for each strap.

5. Attach the MOLLE pockets by lining up the top of the pocket with the top of a horizontal one-inch loop, then insert the pocket attachment strap through the loop on the vest and into a loop on the back of the pocket. Continue interweaving the straps between the MOLLE loops and the pockets loops until the entire length of the pocket is secure. Repeat this interlocking attachment sequence with the strap on the other side of the pocket for a secure attachment.

Make An Airpower Bb Gun

Making an air-power BB gun has never been easier. With just a few simple tools and a little help from an adult, you will be well on your way to a new toy without spending much money. Follow the steps below to make your new gun and be ready to impress the entire neighborhood.

Instructions

1. Find a water gun that uses a pump action. The bigger the gun, the more powerful your BB gun will be.

2. Locate a small metal tube that is the size or a little larger than the BB and about 6 inches long.

3. Attach the tube to the nozzle on the water gun. Hot glue the tube to the water gun nozzle and hold in place until glue cools and hardens.

4. Drop a BB into the tube. Pump the gun and fire. The pump is located underneath the trigger. Pull it out and push it back in until it becomes hard to continue. The more times you pump the weapon, the faster the BB with expel from the tube, because there is a great deal of air pressure built up.

5. Pull the trigger while facing away from people, cars and homes. Make a target from household items and get to practicing. Show your friends how they to can make their own air-powered BB gun.

How Does Layaway Work

How Does Layaway Work?

What Is Layaway?

Layaway plans are a way for customers to pay for purchases in installments. They were developed by retailers as a service to their customers who cannot always afford to pay for large purchases all at once. With a layaway plan, the customer picks out the item or items he wants to purchase and pays a percentage of the total cost as a down payment. The customer agrees to make weekly or bi-weekly installment payments until the purchase is paid in full. The merchant removes the items from the selling floor so that others can't purchase them, but the customer can't take possession of the items until the purchase is paid in full. If the customer fails to make payments on time or cancels the layaway plan, the merchandise is returned to the selling floor and the customer can claim a refund of his original deposit and any payments made, minus any fees charged by the store.

How Do Layaway Plans Benefit Customers?

A layaway plan makes it easy for a customer to make larger purchases. A regular installment payment can be fit into the household budget. Unlike credit cards, customers who use layaway plans pay no interest fees because they are not borrowing money to pay for purchases. Layaway plans discourage impulse spending because the customer can't take the purchase home until it is paid in full. Layaway helps encourage discipline and saving for a goal. In addition, using a layaway plan lets a customer "reserve" a purchase when the item is available, or when it is at a special sale price.

Disadvantages of Layaway Plans

One disadvantage is that if you had deposited your weekly installment payments in a bank account, instead of toward the layaway purchase, you would be entitled to some interest. If you use a layaway plan for a purchase, you'll be deprived of those interest earnings. If an item in your layaway purchase is offered at a reduced price after you make your layaway agreement, you may not be able to take advantage of the savings. Some merchants may charge you a cancellation fee in addition to the layaway fee if you cancel your layaway.

What Are the Costs of Using Layaway?

The cost of using a layaway budget plan varies depending on the merchant offering the plan. Most retailers charge a layaway fee to cover their administration expenses. Some retailers offer layaway plans with a flat fee, meaning that you'll pay the same amount no matter the amount of your purchase. Other retailers charge a percentage of the purchase price as a layaway fee. Rarely, a retailer may offer free layaway as a promotion. In addition, some retailers may charge a cancellation or restocking fee if a customer does not make her installment payments or fails to retrieve her layaway purchases.

Taser Gun Work

These weapons, used by police officers around the United States, use a charge of electricity to incapacitate suspects. Unlike the stun gun, which requires physical contact between the operator and the recipient, an officer can fire a Taser (an acronym for Thomas A. Swift's Electric Rifle) without having to touch the suspect.

Firing a Taser

The operator aims the Taser like a pistol at the intended victim and pulls the trigger, which releases two barbed electrodes in the direction of the suspect. To form a complete circuit, either both electrodes must pierce the target or one has to strike the target and the other must make contact with the ground. If the probes strike two separate targets (such as the intended victim and another person or a tree), the Taser's shock will not reach either.

Electrode Wires

Two long, thin wires connect the barbed electrodes to the Taser gun. If anything damages one or both wires, the Taser will not operate.

Power Source

The Taser gun contains either 9-volt batteries or several AA batteries that provide the electrical current that runs from the gun, through the wires and into the barbed probes. Low battery power will impede the effectiveness of the Taser.

Delivering Volts

When the probes connect with the target, the Taser delivers 50,000 volts of electricity to the victim. This shock overrides the target's central nervous system, causing his muscles to seize and contract uncontrollably and painfully. As a result, the victim will stop running and, in most cases, will drop to the ground and experience muscle spasms.

Timed Pulse

With one pull of the Taser's trigger, the gun fires the probes, trailing their wires as they penetrate their target and delivers a five-second pulse of electricity before shutting off automatically. The operator needs only to press the trigger and release immediately for the Taser to work properly.

Repeat Use

If the suspect continues to struggle and resist arrest, the Taser operator might deliver additional shocks by pressing the trigger again. Each pulse will last for five seconds and the unit will shut down automatically after that time. The operator can send successive shocks in this manner until the batteries drain, if necessary.

What Size Co2 Tank Should I Buy For Paintball

Pressurized carbon dioxide tanks are the most commonly used propellant in the paintball industry today. While the number of shots a particular tank size can provide differs based on the gun used, expect 40 to 45 shots per ounce. Even more important than tank size, however, is the type of tank used, i.e. disposable vs. refillable pin valve.

Disposable Tanks

Known as "cartridges," disposable tanks hold 12 g (0.4 oz.) of liquid carbon dioxide. Extremely portable, cartridges are sold in packages of 10, 15, 25 and even 100. Although you'll have to replace them more often during game play, disposable tanks do not require a filling machine on-site. Disposable cartridges in 3-oz. and 4-oz. sizes are available but they cost considerably more than the standard 0.4-oz. size.

In general, disposable tanks are better for pistols or semi-automatic guns with a relatively low rate of fire.

Refillable Pin-Valve Tanks

Sold in 4-oz., 9-oz., 12-oz., 16-oz. and 20-oz. sizes, pin-valve tanks are easy to maintain and inexpensive to have refilled at most paintball stores or fields. Because of their larger sizes, refillable tanks are the best choice for automatic guns. Depending on the size of the hopper (the bullet magazine) you use, a 12-oz. tank could allow you to fire several hundred rounds within seconds.

However, if you do purchase a high-capacity pin-valve tank, you should also purchase a part for your gun called an "expansion chamber." The low temperature of liquid carbon dioxide can make the O-ring seal between the tank and the gun brittle over time, leading to gas leaks and low pressure. An expansion chamber allows the liquid CO2 to evaporate into pressurized gas before even reaching the O-ring.

Pin-Valve Tank Safety

A damaged O-ring seal isn't simply a nuisance; in some cases, it has actually proved deadly. If the O-ring fails completely, a 12- or 14-oz. tank suddenly becomes a missile traveling at hundreds of feet per second.

Therefore, be sure to have your tanks professionally hydrotested every few months. If the tank gets any scratches or gouges during a game, make sure it gets hydrotested before refilling it or playing again. CO2 tanks also feature a hydrotest expiration date stamped on the side; do not use the tanks past this date! If you decide to buy a used tank online, make sure that you request to see a picture of the tank's expiration date stamp.

Finish Wood Grips

Old world grips have hand rubbed finishes.

Today's hand grips are production oriented. Meaning that they have a top-coat of lacquer or varnish. There is a better way. Traditional grips were hand-rubbed with linseed oil. Hand-rubbed oil finishes are far better for beauty and protection; oil penetrates deep into the wood where it hardens in the pores. Hand rubbed oil finishes take longer, but they are worth the time. Grips are usually small and can adapt well to hand rubbed finishing.

Instructions

1. Sand the grip down to bare wood. Use your fingers and a piece of 100 grit sandpaper. Repeat sanding the grip with 400 grit sandpaper, and then with fine steel wool until the grip has a velvet feel.

2. Pour a tiny amount of linseed oil on your finger tips. Smear the oil into the grip. Pour some more oil and smear more into the grip. Continue adding oil and smearing it in until the grip looks wet. Wait 24 hours.

3. Rub the grip with your fingers and palm. Rub it vigorously until it is slightly warm. Pour some more oil on your finger and rub the grip. Cover the grip completely until it looks wet. Wait 24 hours.

4. Rub the grip again until it is warm. Add more oil. Wait one week.

5. Rub, polish and add oil to the grip every day for one week. After that, rub, polish and oil the grip down at least once a week for the next month. After that, repeat at least once every six months or more. Leave the grip out where you can get to it easily. Make it a habit to pick up the grip and rub it in the evenings -- the more often the better.

Store Carbon Dioxide Tanks

Carbon dioxide, or CO2, is an odorless, colorless and nonflammable gas that accumulates at the bottom of unventilated tanks. Faulty handling and storage of carbon dioxide tanks can have serious consequences, including explosions, spontaneous combustion, exposure to toxic gas or even asphyxiation.

Instructions

1. Disconnect the tank from the regulator when you are not using it.

2. Place the tank upright unless labeling indicates otherwise. To keep the tank in position, you may want to secure it in a racking system or with a nonabrasive, coated chain. This will help ensure it does not get knocked over. Note that some tanks may need to be stored on their sides; check the tank label.

3. Store the tanks in an outdoor area whenever possible. Do not store them in temperatures above 120 degree Fahrenheit, and keep them out of direct sunlight. If you expect temperatures below 65 degrees Fahrenheit, put an insulating jacket over the tanks. Secure them against tampering, and keep them away from other combustible materials.

4. Store the tank indoors only if you have no other option. If you do store indoors, you must have adequate natural ventilation and air flow to avoid vapor buildup if gas escapes. But since extreme heat or cold can affect the tanks, the tanks should stored at least one yard from doors, windows, air vents and ducts.

5. Segregate carbon dioxide tanks from other types of gas tanks by at least five yards to help prevent combustion.

Paintball Marker Work

How Does a Paintball Marker Work?

Background

The first paintball game was played on June 27, 1981. The 12 men who played used Nelspot 007s pistols, a paintball gun originally used for agricultural purposes. Over the years, the game, as well as the guns, have evolved. However, the basic concept of how a paintball gun works has stayed the same. The terms "marker" and "gun" mean the same. The guns are called "markers" to make the sport of paintball seem less violent.

Paintballs

Paintballs are tiny plastic balls filled with a little paint. They aren't filled with traditional paint. The paint that's in a paintball is non-toxic and water soluble. The plastic needs to be thin enough to burst on impact, but not thin enough to burst when fired out of the gun. Paintballs can be found in many different colors. The colors used usually depend on what team the player is on.

Parts of the Gun

The frame of paintball guns are similar to traditional guns. They have handles, barrels and triggers. The inside of a paintball gun contains a bolt, spring, hammer, valve seat, gas inlet valve, sear and valve tube. A tank of compressed air or nitrogen is attached to most guns. Some of the inexpensive and smaller models have disposable tanks that are inserted into the handle to provide air.

Propulsion System

In the barrel of the gun, there is something called a valve tube. The valve tube goes through the bolt, spring and hammer to the gas inlet valve. The tank of compressed air is connected to the gas inlet valve to provide the propulsion needed to expel the paintball. When the gun is cocked, a paintball comes into the barrel from a loader, called a "hopper." When the trigger is pulled, it releases the spring. This allows a burst of air to come through the gas inlet valve and launch the paintball out of the barrel,

Cut Goggles

Scientists and airship pilots alike need goggles.

Cutting a pair of your own steampunk goggles doesn't require cash, just a few basic items and ingenuity. Steampunk culture brings Victorian airship pilots and mad scientists to life, complete with iconic brass goggles. In addition to looking really cool, you'll need them to protect your eyes from the winds whipping around your zeppelin and from the viscous chemicals brewing in your secret lab.

Instructions

1. Cut a 1 ½ inch circle in the center of each drink bottle lid; leaving a ¼ inch border around the top of each lid. Spray paint both lids with brass spray paint; let them dry for hours.

2. Cut the top and bottom from a soda bottle, leaving the center plastic cylinder behind. Slit the side of the cylinder and flatten it out into a plastic sheet. Use the marker to trace two circles around a drink lid on the plastic. Cut out both circles.

3. Glue the plastic circles into your drink lids to create lenses for your goggles. Let the glue dry overnight. Use clear plastic for a traditional look or green plastic to accessorize a scientist persona.

4. Cut along the seams of the baseball with a utility knife. Peel away one of the pieces of leather and remove all of the strings inside. The leather will have an hourglass shape. Paint the hourglass brown with the craftpaint on both sides. Let it dry for an hour.

5. Fold the leather piece widthwise and cut it in half to create two paddle-shaped bases. These paddle-shaped pieces are the frames for the two bottle cap lenses. The curved edges of the paddles make up the sides of the nose piece while the narrow and the cut ends will attach to a strap that secures the goggles around your head.

.

6. Place one of your lenses on the curved side of one of the leather paddles. Trace around the cap with a pencil. Cut a circle about ½ inch inside the pencil circle.

7. Cut the ½ inch border between the cut circle and the pencil circle into ¼ inch wide fringes. Place the lens on the circle and fold the fringes up inside the cap, gluing them in place and clamping them with binder clips. Repeat with the other paddle and lens. Let them dry overnight.

8. Cut a ¼ inch wide leather belt in half, snipping a ½ inch piece of leather from the middle of the belt. Set your bottle cap lenses side by side so the curved ends of the leather paddle are about ½ inch apart. Staple the ½ inch piece of leather between the paddle with brass-tone staples. This completes the nosepiece.

9. Measure around the back of your head, from temple to temple, with a flexible measuring tape. Add 4 inches to this measurement and divide it in half; this is how long each of your goggle straps must be. For instance, if your head measures 10 inches from temple to temple, each leather strap should be 7 inches long.

10. Cut the measured amount (in the case of the example 7 inches) from either end of your belt, salvaging the buckle and belt holes. Staple the cut end of each strap to the narrow ends of your leather goggle paddles. Buckle the ends of the belt together behind your head to secure the goggles.

Troubleshoot A Pcs Paintball Gun That Is Losing Air

A paintball marker in use

Troubleshooting a PCS paintball gun that is losing air may appear to be a daunting task, but it is not as difficult as it appears. Air leaks are a common problem for all paintball gun models, and typically the repairs are quite simple and relatively inexpensive.

Instructions

1. Disconnect your air tank and verify that it is not the cause of the problem. If the air tank appears to be leaking without being connected to the gun, you will likely need to repair the tank regulator.

2. Disassemble your PCS paintball gun if the tank is not the problem. Examine the o-rings throughout the gun and replace any that are damaged or broken.

3. Clean the internal pieces of the PCS gun and lubricate them with paintball gun oil. Other oils can damage the internals of the gun.

4. Reassemble the gun and reconnect the tank. Test the gun's firing without using any paintballs to see if the problem has been solved.

Big Paintball Scenario Games

Paintball fields occasionally host large-scale paintball events which are played under special rules, often to recreate a hypothetical situation, either fictional like a zombie outbreak or historical like a famous battle. These big events host numbers into the hundreds, far larger than a standard paintball game.

The Giant Big Game

The Giant Big Game is a paintball event which takes place from 10 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon, and features a war-like atmosphere, with everything from field-approved ghillie suits on individual players to paintball tanks and paintball mines. The Giant Big Game is a family event, and camping out at the field in designated camping areas is permitted on the night before the event, with no swearing or alcohol consumption allowed in the camping areas.

Jungle Rumble Scenarios

The Jungle Rumble games are a series of big games run by Splat Tag, Inc. Jungle Rumble games take place on the last Sunday of every month from March to October. The scenario for the game changes every month, making each experience a new one. Jungle Rumble games are frequented by experienced players and are not the ideal games for beginners.

Skirmish USA

Skirmish USA runs large-scale scenario games in Pennsylvania, with the theme of the game changing with each new iteration of the event. One example is the Stalingrad Scenario, run in March 2010 and based on the attempted German invasion of the Russian city of Stalingrad in a bitter World War II Winter. Skirmish USA games are very detailed, with more complex goals set out than simply shooting the opposing team, and feature detailed record keeping.

Resident Evil Big Game

The Resident Evil Big Game is a yearly event which is styled around the popular video game franchise Resident Evil, which are zombie games which allow the players to control gun-wielding agents fighting an army of the undead. In the paintball version, there are two teams in play, a team of zombies and a team of humans. Human players that are hit by a zombie become infected, and join the zombie team. Zombies that are hit are killed, and leave the field where they await the chance to be reinserted as a human again.

Seasonal Events

Seasonal games are big-game events with themes based on the time of the year during which the event is taking place. Splat Tag, Inc., for example host themed games near both Halloween and Valentine's Day. The Halloween game encourages the participation of players decked out in Halloween costumes, whereas the Valentine game is themed after the famous Valentine's Day Massacre.

Make A Homemade Paintball Gun

Make a Homemade Paintball Gun

Getting a group of friends together to play a game of paintball can be a lot of fun and a great way to enjoy the outdoors. Combat war games like paintball put a person's shooting abilities to the test and get really get your adrenaline flowing when the game gets under way. While there are a lot of important pieces of equipment you will need to play paintball, none is more important than the paintball marker, or gun. These tend to be very expensive, but the good news is you can build your own with PVC pipe and some household tools.

Instructions

1. Take a saw and use it to cut your PVC pipe into two pieces both at least a foot in length. Use some masking tape to cover all the ends of the pipe you cut.

2. Take one of the pieces you cut and place an elbow on each end of the pipe.

3. Grab 2 Tees (connectors) and connect them to the second piece of pipe. Attach one Tee at each end of your PVC pipe piece.

4. Fuse both pieces of PVC pipe together at the joints. Connect both PVC pieces together at both ends and then take some cement and apply it to the joints where the pipes connect. The reason you need to use cement is that cement is much stronger than any type of glue and will ensure that the gun will not fall apart when being used.

5. Take a Tee and connect it to a PVC nipple. Once you have connected these two pieces you will need to take a ball valve and attach it to the nipple. The part should just screw right in without the need of a screwdriver.

6. Use your saw to cut the remaining length of PVC pipe into a barrel for your gun. You can make the barrel as long or as short as you want it to be.

7. Drill a hole completely through the tire valve's end cap. Poke the valve through the hole you drilled and secure it in place with super glue.

8. Take a 9-inch pipe piece and connect it to the barrel's Tee. Take the tire valve piece and cement it to the piece of pipe.

9. Put your paintball marker in a safe place for at least two days so that the cement has time to dry.

Install Onepiece Colt Grips

Colt one-piece grips are made for the old single-action Army models. Changing the grips can offer a better-looking grip than the standard grips. It can also impact accuracy as the feel of the grips is more natural.

Instructions

1. Remove the current grip on your pistol. Most will have a screw that holds the original grips in place. If your pistol has a roll pin in the frame of the grip, it may need to be removed with a drill or a punch, depending on the grip that you have chosen to replace it with.

2. Line up both sides of the new one-piece grip. Make sure that all sides are flush to the pistol frame. If they are not flush use the sandpaper to sand down those areas. Make sure the new grip does not come in contact with any of the internal workings in the pistol's grip frame.

3. Put a coat of lubricant--petroleum jelly will work--that will stay in place on the metal surfaces of the back strap to protect it. Place one side of the grip in place. Add some epoxy. Mate the other side of the grip to the one already in place. Use string to tie the grip together.

4. Read the instructions on the epoxy to see how long it takes it to dry. When it is dry, remove the grip, clean off the lubricant and put the grip back on.

Indoor Party Places For Kids

Outdoor venues for kids' birthday parties can be a lot of fun; however, they are also highly unpredictable. Various harsh weather conditions, such as rain, snow, high winds and intense heat, can ruin your party, causing you to cancel it or find a last-minute change of venue. If this is a concern of yours, or if an outdoor party is not feasible in the climate you live in, host your party at an indoor venue instead. Does this Spark an idea?

Bowling Alley

One place to host a kid's birthday party is at a bowling alley. Many have party rooms that parents can rent and party packages that parents can buy. Party packages will vary from ally to ally, but some things they may include are invitations, decorations, food, drinks, cake, candles, bowling time, shoe rentals, arcade game credits, a gift for the birthday boy, prizes and/or loot bags. Food at a bowling ally is usually kid-friendly, consisting of sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, French fries and pizza. Depending on the age of the kids, you may want to request bumper lanes. These are lanes with "bumpers" in the gutters that prevent the ball from falling in.

Roller Skating Arena

Many roller skating arenas can be rented out on off hours to host birthday parties. If you go this route, you can control what music the DJ plays and have him turn on strobe lights and/or other special-effect lighting. Some arenas offer birthday packages. Not to worry; if your skating rink provides nothing for the party, you can order pizza, bring cases of soda and serve cupcakes for dessert. You can also decorate the area where your party guests will congregate and leave the rest of the room bare. The colored lights add a festive feel on their own without the need for additional decorations.

Laser Tag Venue

Laser tag is similar to paintball; however, unlike paintball, laser tag does not hurt, nor does it leave bruises or welts. Laser tag players must wear a vest-like device that can sense when a laser touches it. They must also carry a laser gun. Players then run around in an arena filled with hideouts and obstacles, trying to shoot other player's vests without getting shot themselves. The vest is able to count the total number of hits taken and received so players will no how well they did. Many laser tag venues provide full birthday party packages that includes playtime.

Restaurants

Many restaurants offer party packages for children with invitations, decorations, food, cake and loot bags. Some also offer games, prizes and a gift for the birthday girl. Look for a restaurant with an indoor play area, such as McDonald's, Chuck E. Cheese's or Dave & Buster's.

Compressed Air Paintball Tank Work

How Does a Compressed Air Paintball Tank Work?

Paintball Markers

Paintball markers (guns) have been used for agricultural purposes long before they were used for recreation. Yet, the concept of the marker has not changed. To expel a paintball from the barrel of a gun, a propulsion system is used. The air needed for the expulsion comes from the compressed air paintball tank. Paintball tanks can be filled with nitrogen, CO2 and compressed air. The differences between the types of air used slightly differ.

Paintball Propulsion System

A valve tube can be found in the barrel of the marker. It goes through the spring, bolt and hammer to the air inlet valve. The tank of compressed air is connected to the gas inlet valve. This provides the energy needed. When the gun is cocked, a paintball comes into the barrel from a hopper (paintball term for loader). The spring is released when the trigger is pulled. This allows a burst of air from the tank to travel through the inlet valve and expel the paintball through the barrel to the target,

Compression

Air compression is something used in the field of pneumatics. Compression occurs when the pressure of a gas is increased by losing volume. Volume is how much space something occupies. Pressure happens when a force is applied. Paintball tanks usually come in sizes of 20, 12, or 9 ounces. A 20 oz. tank can supply enough air to fire up to 1,500 shots.

Filling a Tank

A compressed air paintball tank is filled by being attached to a larger tank that supplies the air. The larger tank has a much higher volume. When the valve on the larger tank is opened, the compressed air in that tank escapes to the smaller tank until the pressure is too high.

Create Your Own Paintball Jersey For Free

A jersey can help protect you from friendly fire.

In the game of paintball, participants attempt to shoot each other with paint balls. The balls can leave a welt or a bruise, depending on the distance of the shooter or the local temperature (the balls can freeze slightly in cold weather, causing them to impact harder). Games can take place one-on-one or with teams where you work to capture the enemy fort or flag. Renting all the gear for paintball can cost money; making your own team jerseys will help save on costs while also making it easy to identify your teammates on the field.

Instructions

1. Choose a long-sleeved shirt in a solid color. Your team should all have shirts of the same color. You should play in long sleeves even in warm weather since the extra layer can help protect your skin from the force of the paintball.

2. Draw the name of your team in bubble or block letters on white fabric, ideally an old tee-shirt or sheet. Cut out the letters and glue them to the front of the long-sleeved shirt.

3. Write your name in bubble or block letters on the white fabric, as well as a number if you want one. The number should be much larger than the letters and should take up the majority of the space on the back of the shirt. Cut out the letters and numbers, then glue them to the back of the shirt.

4. Draw and cut any design elements from the white fabric. For example, if you want stripes on the sleeves, cut the stripes out of the white fabric and glue them to the shirt. In addition, cut strips to glue around the collar, the hem of the shirt and the ends of the sleeves for an added accent. Glue them onto the shirt.

5. Allow the shirts to dry completely before wearing.

Get Rid Of Fear

Get Rid of Fear

There is a technique used in neural-linguistic programming and hypnotherapy that can help you overcome a phobia. It is called 'Palm Therapy' and works on a principle put forth by Dr. Moshe Zwang. It will help your brain re-program its fear response. This is how it works.

Instructions

1. Get in touch with a fear or phobia you really want to get rid of.

2. Think about how much you want to remove that fear and as you do, look at your left hand, palm open.

3. There are a number of lines on your hand frequently used by palm readers. The one that runs across the palm but is the closest to the fingers is called the 'heart line'. The one that runs right across the center of the palm starting between thumb and index finger is the 'head line'.

4. Now find the spot on your heart line that is directly underneath the separation between your little finger and your ring finger. Sometimes it can be a little sensitive if you press on it.

5. Then you want to locate the point on your head line between the index and middle fingers. Avoid the connection to the life line (the line that circles the base of the thumb area) should your head line and life line join at that point. This too, might be a little sore to pressure.

6. You can do this by yourself, or you can have someone help you.

7. Ask yourself or the person helping you if you really do want to get rid of this fear. You need to be able to honestly WANT to be rid of the phobia or this technique won't work. If you are unsure, wait until you are clear and determined. If you really do want it gone, answer "yes" from the heart.

8. Now you will want to re-live the feeling of the fear. So close your eyes and put yourself in a situation so you can visualize, maybe even hear and smell what upsets you. Do it until you have a very strong feeling even if it is scary. Think about how it makes you feel. You might even try to describe to yourself your physical reactions or where in your body the impact is strongest.

9. Now either you or your helper can press firmly on the heart line and head line pressure points for at least 10 seconds keeping your eyes closed. Open your eyes but continue pressing.

10. Keep the pressure on for about 2 minutes. During this time have your helper lead you into some really good memories, or think of something that brings up pleasant feelings by yourself. You can ask yourself questions like "what's your favorite thing to do?" or "when can you last remember having a wonderful time?" or "what was one of the happiest days of your life", etc.

11. Now let go of the two points being pressed. There is a very good chance you have actually re-programmed your reactions and will find the fear has lessened or vanished completely! If the phobia ever starts to come back, you can do this simple procedure again. It is really astonishing how often this really does work! Try it. You've nothing to loose but an unwanted phobia. And most of us have acquired at least one!

How Does An M18 Grenade Smoke

The U.S. military uses smoke hand grenades as "a ground-to-ground or ground-to-air signaling device, target or landing zone marking devices, or screening devices for unit movements," according to the Grenades and Pyrotechnic Signals Field Manual FM 23-30. The M-18 grenade uses several colors of smoke.

Components

The body of the M-18 grenade is composed of a sheet steel cylinder with four emission holes that allow the smoke to escape when the grenade is ignited. The filler contains 11.5 oz. of colored smoke mixture that may be red, yellow, green or violet. An M201A1 is used to ignite the grenade, which weighs 19 oz.

Operation

Operation of the M-18 grenade must be used in a sequence of steps. First, remove the tape from the grenade bottom to expose the filler, then remove the fuse by unscrewing it from the grenade. Ignite the starter mixture with a naked flame, then throw the grenade immediately to avoid burn injury.

Action

The smoke mixture is ignited by the flame, and the grenade will release a cloud of colored smoke for approximately 50 to 90 seconds. Beware of using the M-18 grenade in dry areas due to risk of fire.

Easily Remove Anodizing

Cookware is one of many products that is often anodized.

The process of anodizing is used to increase the thickness of the oxide layer on the surface of metal parts. Anodizing can often protect the metals, and you will find it on items such as cookware, knives, and even cars. But many people prefer the more natural, bare look of metal on their product. For those people who would rather remove the anodizing, it is possible to do so with some elbow grease and the right substances.

Instructions

1. Put the anodized item onto newspaper. Oven cleaner is the most effective substance for removing anodizing, but it is highly corrosive, so you must have newspaper down to absorb any spills. Otherwise, you risk ruining whatever surface area you work on.

2. Spray the anodized item with a coat of oven cleaner. It should be a relatively thin coat, but one that covers the entire anodized area. Leave the item and allow the oven cleaner to soak in for around 5 minutes.

3. When you return, you will see the oven cleaner has already started corroding the anodized area. This is exactly what you want; repeat that step a number of times until all the anodized area has been removed. This could take several repeats, especially if the surface is anodized to a high standard.

4. To prevent any further corrosion of the metal, wash the item with warm water and a cloth when the oven cleaning substance has gotten rid of the anodized coating.

5. After the removal of the glossy layer of anodizing, you will notice the metal is somewhat dull. To remedy this, scrub the area with coarse, and then finer, wire wool. This should bring through the natural shine of the metal.

6. Buff the metal with metal polish and a rag. This should give the item a shine.

Test Co2 Cylinders

Fire extinguishers must be inspected for home safety.

High pressure cylinders for storing carbon dioxide (CO2) gas or a mix of gases are used for a variety of purposes, including custom aquaria, SCUBA diving, beer brewing and paintball sports. Most importantly, fire extinguishers are often CO2 cylinders, and must be inspected regularly in order to ensure home safety. According US Department of Labor Occupational Health and Safety Administration regulations, CO2 cylinders should be tested once every five years by a facility certified by the US Department of Transportation. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Visual Inspection

1. Depressurize the CO2 cylinder by opening the valve slowly and releasing the pressurized CO2 gas.

2. Inspect the exterior of the cylinder for any signs of rust or corrosion. Discard compromised tanks.

3. Remove the valve from the cylinder and visually inspect the interior for any signs of rust or corrosion. Use the flashlight to ensure good visibility. Discard compromised tanks.

Hydrostatic Testing

4. Place the empty, open cylinder into the hydrostatic wet-jacket testing chamber.

5. Attach the pressurized water inflow valve to the top of the cylinder and seal the chamber.

6. Fill the chamber with water at normal pressure.

7. Slowly fill the cylinder with water under pressure to 5/3 of the working capacity specified in the DOT stamp (see Resources) on the neck of the cylinder. For example, a 1,000 psi (pounds per square inch) cylinder should be filled to 1,667 psi (1000 x 5/3).

8. Monitor the water level in the burette as the tank fills. The burette is the clear glass tube with increment markings (ml) that is located on the outside of the chamber. As the pressurized cylinder expands inside the chamber, it displaces water into the burette. Record the water level in the burette at 5/3 pressure (e.g. 100 ml).

9. Slowly release the pressure from the water cylinder. Record the water level in the burette after the cylinder pressure is released (e.g.10 ml).

10. Approve the hydrostatic test for the cylinder if the water level in the burette after pressure release is ten percent or less of the water level in the burette at maximum pressure; otherwise the cylinder did not return to normal size and you should not certify the cylinder.

11. Label the cylinder with the name and signature of the person performing the test, the test date, and the serial number of the cylinder tested.

2. Pull out the push pins on the right and left hand side of the scope mount on the top of the Tippmann X7. To do this, simply grab the pins and remove. Push the scope into the housing to install and slide the pins through the holes on both the X7 and the scope to secure and install.

3. Locate the hopper on the left hand side of the X7 stock. The hopper has rubberized hand grips for ease of use. Turn the screws on the hopper to remove. Place a new, custom hopper onto the mount and turn the screw to install.

4. Pull out the push pins on the left hand side of the grip. These are located near the upper left hand side corner of the X7 grip. Remove the grip around the trigger. Install the new grip by pushing it into the grip housing and sliding the push pin into the new grip to secure it to the weapon.

Airsoft Sniper Tips

Whether you like to reenact famous battles or simply play war games with your friends, Airsoft pistols and rifles are an increasingly popular game mode. The guns require less cleanup and look more realistic than paintball guns, but are just as much fun to use. If you're putting a squad together, consider getting a sniper. Snipers are long-range experts capable of taking out targets without even being seen or endangered, and are invaluable for covering targets in dangerous situations.

Equipment

To be the best sniper, one needs the best equipment. An ideal sniper rifle is capable of accurate, long-range shots and has a scope which allows the user to see his target. A Ghillie suit or camouflage is a necessity for anyone who wants to hide long enough to line up their shot. Snipers should also carry sidearms in case they are cornered.

Movement

Learn to move silently, choosing carefully how and where you step. Walk heel-to-toe, taking care to avoid loose leaves and twigs. Invest in some shoes and clothes that fit comfortably but are a little tight. Shoes which slide around are likely to make more noise than those that contour nicely to your foot; loose clothing makes a swishing noise. Practice walking stealthily in your backyard or a nearby wood to learn what surfaces make noise when walked on and which are silent.

Technique

Practice breathing when you fire. You should exhale as though blowing the BB out of the barrel. Learn to fire from a prone position, as this makes your whole body a much more stable platform from which to fire. You are likely a member of a team, so get to know your teammates well--whether this is your first or 100th time working with these people, they rely on you as much as you rely on them.

Snipers operate best when they are hidden, able to see the entire battle stretched below them and select their targets at their leisure. High areas--places where you are hidden by your surroundings--are best. A position where you're behind the enemy works well, too, because when the enemy is attacking, they will be moving away from you. Use your stealth movement tricks to get behind enemy lines, and your sidearm if you are caught. Communicate often: your position will give you a visual advantage that your teammates don't necessarily have, and you may spot an incoming enemy patrol or other danger to your side; your associates will also request help, and from a good position you can take out obstacles. Snipers play the role of a guardian angel and assassin rolled into one.

Most importantly, have fun. Each battle will be a learning experience for you as a sniper. Every shot you make will improve your abilities. Avoid head shots, as even though these are toy guns, they do cause some physical pain. Hitting someone in a sensitive area is dangerous.

Build Custom Paintballs

Paintball guns come in a variety of types but the paintballs they shoot come in standardized models that everyone uses. You can make your own custom paintball that will leave no doubt as to who fired it. You will need some household supplies as well as from a grocery store. No special skills are needed to make your paintball, other than to match the size of the paintball with the paintball gun that you will be firing it out of.

Instructions

1. Place a bath towel on a table. Pull apart the toy capsule with your fingers. Place bottom section of the toy capsule on the bath towel with the open end facing up. Place the top section of the toy capsule on the bath towel with the open end facing down.

2. Pour half of the contents of the pink food coloring bottle into the the bottom toy capsule section. Pour half of the contents of the orange food coloring bottle into the bottom toy capsule section.

3. Make a tiny hole in the top of the section of the toy capsule that is on the bath towel with the open end facing down using the blade of the utility knife.

4. Place the top section of the toy capsule on the bottom section. Place a piece of cellophane tape on each side to hold the two sections together. Your custom paintball is now ready to be loaded and fired.

Homemade Airsoft Gun Bases

Homemade Airsoft Gun Bases

Playing airsoft gun games is similar to manhunt, paintball or hide-and-go-seek. Each player is armed with a plastic pellet airsoft gun and hides behind bases for camouflage and to prevent being shot or hit. In most airsoft games, once you are shot, you must sit out of the game. Constructing a sturdy base using household or natural materials is one way to avoid being hit. The idea is to create a base that provides coverage directly around and above while allowing you access to shoot other players while hiding within your base.

Materials

You can create bases out of many different materials, such as pieces or planks of wood, tables, cardboard boxes, chairs, plastic or pieces of scrap metal. Even an old couch or chair can create a sturdy base. Look for items that are slightly larger than your body and strong enough to withstand an airsoft gun pellet. As with any "found item," be sure you ask an adult or the item's owner permission to use the piece.

Create your bases using tools such as an electric screwdriver, screws, hammer, nails, scissors and a large bit drill. Always wear protective gear such as work gloves and protective eyewear when assembling your base.

Airsoft Bunker

Use a large cardboard box and a few thin planks of wood to create an airsoft bunker that allows you protection and the ability to shoot. Prop a large refrigerator or treadmill box on its side and remove the back of the box so it stands on its own.

Brace the box by laying one thin plank of wood along the front of the box. Brace the box using two planks of wood propped up inside the box and two planks propped up outside the box. Cut rectangular holes on the side and in front of the box so you can hide behind the box while using the holes to shoot your opponent.

Natural Base

If you are playing airsoft in the woods, use twigs, leaves sticks and wood to create your base. Create a base wall using logs and twigs. Collect enough logs to build a wall high enough to provide coverage while you are kneeling.

Reinforce your base using twigs and leaves. Pile twigs and leaves around your log wall to create a barrier which will provide shelter and camouflage from the enemy. Intertwine the twigs to provide the illusion that the base is naturally occurring and isn't manmade. Create a roof using tree branches and leafy twigs.

Make A Paintball Barrel

Paintball is an intense game of strategy and sportsmanship. To be a good player, you need to be agile and athletic and have dialed-in equipment. Your gun is the most important piece of tactical equipment that you will carry and thus should be modified to suit your playing style as best it can be. The first and possibly easiest modification is to change barrels. Changing to a longer, ported barrel will not only make your gun quieter but also add accuracy and range. Aftermarket paintball barrels are expensive; however, you can build your own using some common household materials.

Instructions

1. Cut out a 6-inch section of pipe using the hacksaw.

2. Use the Dremel tool to remove material from the inner lip of one side of the tubing until the pipe will slide snugly over the end of your existing barrel.

3. Use the sandpaper to smooth out the inside and outside surfaces of the barrel.

4. Drill three evenly spaced, vertical rows of holes in the last 2 inches of the barrel (on the opposite end of the lip you cut out with the Dremel tool). To install the barrel extension, slide the PVC piping onto the end of your existing barrel.
